The $20 plus price is worth the amount they give. Service have always been kind and their location is inside the Aiea shopping plaza with lots of parking and lots of good eateries near by. I always love coming here. The food is always fresh and delicious and the owner is always soo pleasant. Today I decided to try the chicken katsu and meat Jun combo. I must always order meat Jun but I wanted to know why everyone always orders the katsu. Now I understand, this is not your typical katsu. The chicken is marinated and then breaded!!!! If the Hawaii style Korean BBQ plate lunch was a religion or a triple threat entertainer, this meal would be the Holy Trinity or Zendaya. I tried calling in the order in advance because always get long line at Young's, but the guy kept hanging up on me. It was like "hello...this Young's Kalbi...please hold"..."ok no problem", thud, pause, pause, beep, beep, click, robot lady voice "call ended". Huh?!? I called again and almost same thing but shorter this time "hello this Young's Kalbi"..."can I do a take-..." thud, pause, "uh hello..." click, auto lady voice "call ended." What da?!? I had to try one more time because now I had a thought bubble "the line must be crazy long today, they can't even stay on the phone." This one was the shortest "hello Young's-", thud, robot lady "call ended." Aw man now I gotta wait in the long line. And my friend had to rub salt in the wound, "I told you to call in the order yesterday." That was not helpful...you are not my friend right now...but...he was right...the truth hurts especially when it comes to one of my faves. It's been about 20-30 years of eating here and there's always a line for all these years. Long time customers know that Young's cares about quality control, consistent execution of their recipes and they care about their customers. The meat jun is thin sliced tender marinated beef with the slighty chewy eggy fried batter. The chicken katsu is a little different, but good kine different, because tastes like they marinate the chicken in their kalbi sauce before they fry it up crispy and then they give you kalbi sauce for katsu dipping delights (not the usual ketchup-based sauce). And their thin sliced kalbi (pronounced "kyle-bee" as my friend Miri, who speaks fluent Korean, reminded me so many times in her taunting voice"it's kyle-bee not kahl-bee...that's not even a Korean word"...sorry Eomma) was full flavored all the way through each bite of tender beef. When I make kyle-bee at home only the outside layer get flavor and the inside is kinda bland, but still comes out good, but my technique is not nearly as good as Young's marination technique. The portions were huge, I'm stuffed and we will fight for leftovers. I think I just had a weird, but delicious religious experience with a ethereal vision of Zendaya speaking in a robot voice saying "I hope you liked the kyle-bee", thud click "call ended." read more

I feel like other places are more reasonable. The meat Jun was thicker than I like. The kalbi was very tasty but the texture suggest they use baking soda to tenderize it and you don't get that same char on the meat. The meat jun had the same soft but gummy texture. I don't really care for that texture unless its in a stir fry. Inflated prices, no in store dining, off texture. I've found better places now. read more

I'll start my update with still the best meat jun in the world. Eggy meat jun with tasty soft meat that is unmatched anywhere else. Parking is pretty bad, $25 for one plate of meat jun, seems like they are always overwhelmed, but despite all of this, I still make this a must visit stop when visiting home. I heard some rumors about them retiring soon. Not sure what that means for the future of my delicious meat jun but I hope they can pass it on or something... fingers crossed till the next time I'm home. read more

They even have a parking lot attendant to make sure that people are parking there for the stores in that plaza area. There's the parking area in front of it and next to it. It's free parking. The BBQ Chicken and Meat Jun was tasty and I loved the sauce for the Meat Jun! This place is pricey compared to the Korean restaurants I've been to and here, you don't have a choice on the banchan. It comes with pickled cabbage, seaweed, bean sprouts and kimchee. It also comes with a LOT of rice. I've heard good things about this place for a while but the price has kept me away until one day I was like screw it let's try. It's takeout only by the looks of it but food came out relatively quick despite my place in line and lemme tell you portions on my combo plate was heaping. From the meat jun being perfectly seasoned and caked, the Teri beef being tender seasoned yet big, the sauce being a nice kick rather than shoyu like other places this place was a welcome hit. After trying Meat Jun in Los Angeles and finding out it's a staple in Hawaii, my mission is to always get at least one plate of it! I went to Young's Kal Bee and got more than I expected! The lunch special included Meat Jun, BBQ Chicken, Mandu, Rice and Veggies. Their Meat Jun is said to be very popular and I believe it. It's sweet, tender, and mouthwatering! The BBQ Chicken was the same way (not sweet tho lol). I was definitely a fan of their lunch special and didn't want to share but I couldn't be too selfish for my fiance and friend to not try the Meat Jun. One our co-workers offers to pick up lunch from this place, close to his residence. Most of us opt for the Lunch Special ($19.16) while another usually gets the Fish Jun ($21.26). To me the lunch special is the best value ... You get a layer of meat jun, three pieces of BBQ Chicken, and a fried mandoo over a bed of rice. You also get ban chan (seaweed, bean sprouts) and a container of kimchi. The meat jun is tender and the chicken is moist. The fried mandoo ... Well ... I used to be very proud of my fave takeout korean spot I loved growing up as a kid especially for bragging rights when your other half is feom Aiea. But over the years young's kalbee has taken the lead as far as tastiedt meat jun. The meat is thick and marinated. All of their food is a bit on the sweet side which I dont mind. Although it's only take out which at times will deter us as we may want to grab a meal as we head to other destinations. The food was really good. Meat jun, kalbi and mandoo yummy. A bit pricey (the posted price for the kalbi I swear said $50 for the plate size, was charged like $34) but where in Hawaii isn't these days. So I don't know if I just came on the wrong day or what but my food was terrible. I'm looking at all the great reviews and I have no idea what went wrong. First off it cost me $52 for two plates. One meat Jun and one kalbi. It was super busy so the price didn't bother me, although I was surprised, I figured to be this busy this place must be worth it. The Ban Chan (sides) are sprouts, seaweed, cabbage and Kim chee. Those were nothing special although the Kim chee was very good. My MEAT JUN was SO CHEWY and TOUGH it was almost impossible to eat. The meat was almost grainy and I wish I had gotten some pictures because it didn't look like what everyone else is posting!!! The kalbi was also tough and at $27 for the plate with the very plainest of sides ( cabbage and seaweed?) definitely not worth it. The $52 didn't even include a drink and I would just not return.
