Order cold cut combo. Got freezer burn meet, literally cold.

Order cold cut combo and got frozen meat. I order twice at this place and both times not good. Never again. I suggest you spend more time with food quality and less on logo on your wrapper.

    Lots of cha selections!

I stopped by for *cheap gas next door and stumbled into this unassuming place! Glad I did bc they had a banh mi that I never had before...Bo la lot (grilled beef in betel leaf) in a sandwich form. Yass! Sandwich had all the usual stuff, but the star was the meat. Right texture, hot, and flavorful. Glad I stopped by and will be back!

All $7 except $7.50 for Dac Biet

Came here honestly by accident when looking for Duc Huong since they're located so closely, didn't realize until after I already bought the goods and left. Oh wells. Got the combination banh mi (dac biet) and asked for garlic bread instead of regular and extra meat. The nice lady who speaks limited English at the register only charged me a $1 for the extra meat. Quite generous if you look at the photo. There is a buy 4 get 1 free deal just like at Duc Huong. They take Venmo here but I paid in cash and didn't bother to ask if they take credit card since usually small businesses prefer cash anyways. I have to say I couldn't taste any garlic at all, the meats are pretty good and pate is okay. Bread is just okay as well. They also sell cha lua in the leaf wrap if you are into that, they have several options.

I visited the store that Gio Cha Ngon took over a few years ago ever since I was in kindergarten (previously called Thanh Lan). Luckily, that store passed down their recipe for Banh Mi Ga to Gio Cha Ngon and my family has still been going here ever since! Located near Vietnam Town in San Jose, Gio Cha Ngon is located on a quieter corner with a super small parking lot and a busy gas station. They sell various types of Vietnamese cha and banh mi here. Everything is pretty affordable - the women who work here are super kind too! I don't recall if they take card, but I do know that cash is preferred (plus, they also take Venmo!). We always order the classic banh mi ga (chicken banh mi) here since we can't find any other store that sells and makes it as good as they do. I'd recommend asking for all of the vegetables on the side for you to add yourself so that it doesn't get soggy if you don't eat it right away! As another tip: ask for it toasted if you do plan on eating it ASAP. :-)

Banh mi ga cha bong (shredded chicken) with added pate. Generous amount of delicious pate!! Thank you!

New Banh Mi place. Every Banh Mi place has their own specialty sandwich. This case, it's their banh mi ga-- cha bong (shredded chicken) and their pate! I always include pate in all my sandwiches. So far this is the only place that has packed on the pate. Wow! It's also well made and tastes so delightful! Maybe even the best pate I've had. But before making that judgment, I do want to give it a couple more tries to see if they're consistent. And they make cha ga (chicken) as well as cha bo (beef) instead of just pork. I do eat pork, but I try to limit my intake and when I saw that they serve chicken meat I jumped on the opportunity! The batch I bought was a little too salty, but that won't stop me from purchasing more. Just cut a thinner slice eat it with bread or rice. I hope they fix that though, but overall flavor and texture is great. My new go to shredded chicken and pate sandwich joint. So delicious! Glad to support ma and pa shops. :-)

Food was okay. I got their Dac Biet banh mi. The bread and meat was good but I prefer other Vietnamese sandwiches places. I came here and it's decent but not great. Service is good.

Thit nuong banh mi. Barely any meat
    Anna T.

I do not recommend coming to this place for banh mi. The bread was stale and there was barely any meat. I ordered thit nuong and it was bland and cold.

The cha Hue is grainy. It seems like they must have used black pepper air dried in VN that's why there are pebbles in cha Hue.

Giò chả are good. It would be better if they are not wrapped with plastic, as plastic is unhealthy when cooked at high temperature.

When I came in to place my order, the female employee who took my order seemed very unfriendly and had a noticeably unpleasant attitude. I understand that everyone can have a bad day or may be dealing with something in their personal life, so I tried not to take it personally. However, I ended up waiting about 20 minutes for just one small bánh mì. After waiting that long, I finally went up to ask about my order. Only then did the employee hand it to me. Apparently, my order had already been ready for quite some time, but no one bothered to call my number or let me know. Waiting is understandable when a restaurant is busy, but having a completed order sitting there while the customer continues waiting is very frustrating. Combined with the unfriendly attitude and poor customer service, this was a very disappointing experience. Good customer service is not just about making the food--it is also about communicating with customers and treating them with basic courtesy. I really hope the management provides better customer service training moving forward.

Unfortunately, I don't come here as often as I would like due to the distance from home and the added headache that comes with driving in this area- IYKYK!! Now with that said, I only come here strictly for Thien Huongs thit nuong [vietnamese grilled pork]. The flavors are deliciously untouchable and cannot be replicated. It is smoky, savory, with a hint of sweetness, and 100% tender through and through. Thien Huong is the home of BUY 3 GET 1 FREE, which totally trumps Duc Huong's deal of buying 4 large sandwiches and getting 1 FREE. Service is quick but parking kind of sucks and the custom service is still consistently unfriendly. Personally, I can deal with the grumpy female staff when something so delicious is awaiting. 5/5 stars. Bonus points because the staff isn't stingy with the pickled carrots and daikon.
