Banh mi ga (shredded chicken banh mi) is so nostalgic to me so I try to come every so often to support this business, but my recent visit left me with a sour impression. I've been coming to this location since it was under Thanh Lan. It seemed they were catching up on orders and that was no problem, I was willing to wait for my turn. I stood behind the customer who was getting helped for 15 mins. Clearly, we were the only ones there for the longest time and I am standing directly behind her, so it was obvious I was suppose to get helped after. When I was next in line, the older lady turns to a different customer who just came in and took his order??? I don't know if she assumed I was there for pickup and pickup orders weren't ready yet and therefore ignored me, but I was standing in the store behind the previous customer for the longest time! To make things worse, they were so overwhelmed that the older lady was yelling at the other employee for making mistakes on orders. I really didn't care to order anymore and just left. I noticed they have logos on their banh mi now, so maybe they're working on rebranding or maybe they are still getting use to online delivery app orders, but that visit was just unacceptable. I only really order from here for the memories, otherwise the baguette is hard and the sandwich itself is just okay. They should work on improving management and customer service first. read more

Dishonest Business- Rotten Food. On 7/18/26 I purchased several items from this establishment, including a bag of 30 uncooked egg rolls priced at $1.20 each (total $36). The cashier handed me a bag marked "25", and when I questioned it, she offered to refund $5, which did not match the actual shortage. When I arrived home and counted the contents, I discovered that the bag contained only 23 egg rolls, meaning I was shorted 2 in total. Additionally, the business charged sales tax on uncooked food, which is not taxable under California law. They also refused to provide a proper itemized receipt and instead gave me only a credit card slip. I also purchased a sandwich that contained rotten cucumbers and spoiled vegetables. The food had an unpleasant odor and taste, and I had to throw it away. This raises serious concerns about food handling, storage, and overall sanitation practices. I attempted to contact the business using the phone number listed on Yelp, but the number was disconnected, making it impossible to resolve the issue directly. Came here honestly by accident when looking for Duc Huong since they're located so closely, didn't realize until after I already bought the goods and left. Oh wells. Got the combination banh mi (dac biet) and asked for garlic bread instead of regular and extra meat. The nice lady who speaks limited English at the register only charged me a $1 for the extra meat. Quite generous if you look at the photo. There is a buy 4 get 1 free deal just like at Duc Huong. They take Venmo here but I paid in cash and didn't bother to ask if they take credit card since usually small businesses prefer cash anyways. I have to say I couldn't taste any garlic at all, the meats are pretty good and pate is okay. Bread is just okay as well. I really don't know how this place gets any star higher than one. The sandwiches here are so mediocre and there are far better Vietnamese sandwiches one plaza over - Duc Huong for example. The girl that works at the front not sure if she's the owner, but she has the worst customer service skills. Completely rude and was literally on her phone the entire time I'm having a conversation with her. If you look at one of the pictures on yelp, she's doing the exact same thing being on her phone. You could tell that the way she speaks to the other employee that she doesn't respect anybody. If she's reading this my advice to try to smile and respond like a professional the next time somebody steps inside your store- maybe try putting the phone away, fix your tone and manner. Everytime I want to give this place a try it all ends up in disappointment. I like the location because it's convenient for me. The customer service is nonexistent and hot bread is on and off. Love their chicken sandwiches (banh mi ga)!! Best Chicken banh mi in town, it's really similar to the famous Chicken banh mi in Sai Gon back then. They also have pate for $6 half a pound, it's really moist and flavorful, if you don't use it fast enough you can freeze them for next use as well. Their Cha Hue, Cha Chien and Cha Oc (snail pork roll) are my favorite cha options. read more

I visited the store that Gio Cha Ngon took over a few years ago ever since I was in kindergarten (previously called Thanh Lan). Luckily, that store passed down their recipe for Banh Mi Ga to Gio Cha Ngon and my family has still been going here ever since! Located near Vietnam Town in San Jose, Gio Cha Ngon is located on a quieter corner with a super small parking lot and a busy gas station. They sell various types of Vietnamese cha and banh mi here. Everything is pretty affordable - the women who work here are super kind too! I don't recall if they take card, but I do know that cash is preferred (plus, they also take Venmo!). We always order the classic banh mi ga (chicken banh mi) here since we can't find any other store that sells and makes it as good as they do. I'd recommend asking for all of the vegetables on the side for you to add yourself so that it doesn't get soggy if you don't eat it right away! New Banh Mi place. Every Banh Mi place has their own specialty sandwich. This case, it's their banh mi ga-- cha bong (shredded chicken) and their pate! I always include pate in all my sandwiches. So far this is the only place that has packed on the pate. Wow! It's also well made and tastes so delightful! Maybe even the best pate I've had. But before making that judgment, I do want to give it a couple more tries to see if they're consistent. And they make cha ga (chicken) as well as cha bo (beef) instead of just pork. I do eat pork, but I try to limit my intake and when I saw that they serve chicken meat I jumped on the opportunity! The batch I bought was a little too salty, but that won't stop me from purchasing more. Just cut a thinner slice eat it with bread or rice. The bread is stale and a little hard. The cha lua is not as good as other places close by. Tre tron barely have any tre in it. The pig ear for the tre is cut too thick, so it is gummy and chewy. It is supposed to be sliced thin. It has more mango in it than tre, so it be called mango salad. Food quality is alright and not that good. read more

They are absolutely have good food here. This is the place i would recommended for cha , nem chua , and xoi man. And especially they accept venmo which is make it very convenient for me. The reason i gave -2 stars because there are sometime i went there and ask the old lady how much is the price for the certain foods, she has absolutely no idea for it, which makes the business pretty bad i think. And she was the only one there i could ask for. And another reason is that most of the time i called in, always go directly to voicemail. This is the first time I bought stuff from this place and the services were good at the time I paid. When I went home m, I found down that the Vietnamese butter for bread was bad, the butter was not solid, it had liquid oil at the bottom. I called the shop and told them what happened. They said I needed to smell it to see if it was edible and if it was bad, I had to return it to the shop so they could give me a new one or return the money. I told them that it was bad that they gave me the bad butter, and it was my fault that I didn't check it before leaving the store. They then immediately said the butter wasn't bad, it was edible even there was a thick oil at the bottom. I told her that it wasn't the first time I bought this kind of butter, and this was the first time that I saw it in this condition. She then got mad and said if I said her butter was bad, then she wouldn't want to give me back my money nor exchange for a new one. She then hung up on me. So they just don't live up to what they just said then. Customers just have to suck it in and throw their bad product just because THIS SHOP WON'T ACDEPT THAT THEIR PRODUCTS TURN BAD. read more

Nice place with lovey ladies up in front. My mom heard of this spot on Vietnamese radio. Their pork rolls and other steamed deli meats are good. Their chicken sandwich a safe bet for picky eaters and is elevated with fresh, crisp greens. First time here definitely won't be my last! I bought Chicken Banh Mi, few egg rolls, and some small Cha Lua which is called Cha Hue. Cha Hue has ground black peppers and black peppercorns mixed right into it amongst other ingredients. They were all delicious! Banh Mi Ga / Chicken was perfect not to salty or overly fatty like how some places like to put so much butter in it. Just had their chicken banh mi. The ingredients were extremely fresh. From the bread, to the vegetables, and to the shredded chicken. Also, I'm not sure what was inside but it's a perfect spiciness to the sandwich. You get a kick that's not overwhelming. Also, their iced milk coffee was very tasty. It has this interesting roasted aftertaste to it. I only bought one sandwich the first time because it's cash only and didn't have enough.
