On a random weekday we came here for a swee t treat after lunch seeing all the great reviews. We ordered stuff at the counter and just stood inside since we'd just come from a nice lunch and didn't want a sit down service again. We got a pistachio cannoli which was topped with so many pistachios.. the filling was light, the outer shell was perfectly crispy. Overall just delightful.. but the true hero of this spot for me was their hot chocolate. It was thick, dark and not too sweet.. a perfect combination when it comes to hot chocolate. It was sooo good that we came back again just for their hot chocolate. They have a dining room inside with plenty of seating so maybe next time I'll do that. Highly recommend this spot.. the reviews don't lie!!
Came to get the gelato here because of the raving reviews. We came late on a Tuesday night and waited around 15 minutes in line. You pay first with what size you want and if you want cup/cone. Felt rushed ordering, they gave us a cone even though we paid for a cup. Make sure you know what you want before hand because he did not like when we asked what the flavor profile difference was between lemon and limoncello (we tried looking it up in line but unfortunately there's no signal here). Pistachio gelato was really delicious nice and creamy!! I prefer pistachio bits in my pistachio gelatos for added texture which this one didn't have but that's not to say the gelato wasn't amazing it's more of a persona preference. The lemon was very tarty and refreshing!
Old world charm! On the recommendation of our apartment host, we visited Giolitti for a gelato. The café is just beautiful - it exudes old world charm with elegant wood panelled interiors and glass display cases filled with delicious looking food. The coffee is nothing special, but the gelato was sublime!
It was my first time visiting and overall lots of options. First you pay and then you go to the counter to get what you ordered. I got a small and it comes with two flavors. You can only eat in if you don't order the to go options otherwise if you get to go you won't be allowed to eat inside. Overall it has the ambience of a milkshake shop!
This was one of our favorite gelato spots across all of the cities we visited in Italy! The place is massive and there was a large crowd of people, as it deserves. You order the size you want and pay at the register, and then take your ticket to the counter to order your flavors. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate, and o m g was this delicious. Maybe it was because it was my first gelato in Italy but I was actually mind blown by how good it was. I've had my fair share of gelato, but the flavor and texture of this was perfection - so smooth, and the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors were so intense and rich. I can still remember being astonished by how good they tasted. There is a lot of good pistachio gelato out there, but this one was something special for sure. Highly highly recommend trying!
A great gelato spot that was in an easily reachable location - they do not offer seating for their customers who only order gelato though, only for those ordering food/drinks. You pay at the cashier and bring your receipt over to another line to get your gelato. Lines move quickly though. The ambiance is casual. They have lots of flavors - we tried the pistachio and salted caramel, both of which were delicious. The salted caramel was sweeter than I expected.
While traveling in Italy, a family member highly recommended Giolitti's gelatos. So, when we were in Rome, we found a branch near where we stayed and decided to try it. The gelato is superb! They have many flavors, and you can choose a few for your cone or cup. The larger size lets you mix more flavors. On our first visit, we tried about four or five different flavors and loved them so much that we stopped for a second time a couple of days later. Their gelatos are very flavorful and not too sweet compared to the average ice cream and gelato in the US. The line was long, so you might have to wipe your mouth often if you're drooling too much while looking at all the gelato options. The staff is very quick and helpful. It's an experience worth trying if you are in Rome.
Wow!!! Amazing gelato here!! I know there are many gelato places to choose from, but you have to try this place and compare it to other places and you will see the difference. The line was very very long when we got there. Don't be afraid to get in line though since the line moves quickly! We were out in the street waiting and line was constantly moving. You paid for the size of gelato and then you stand in another line to get the flavors you want. There's indoor seating, but you are not allowed to sit there if you are just ordering the gelato. There's a line to sit in the cafe.
Probably the best gelato I had in Rome, if not very close. It was both thick and creamy and the flavors were rich and a wide range of them. I went back twice to confirm how I felt about it. My favorite coffee flavored gelato stop. Loved the old school feel of Giolitti. It was very crowded on both my visits, but the line moves quickly. Their system is that you pay first and pick out your flavors after, which can be a little confusing. Definitely a staple worth visiting.
Our Airbnb was few blocks away from this place, there was always a line here so decided to check it out. The gelato was just okay, nothing special. They have sir down service and to go as well, you pay a little extra with sit down table service. Staff is super friendly. I'd though skip the place if looking for authentic gelato flavors.
Super popular gelato shop that opens late! Pay first at the front then head to the counter to get your gelato in either a cone or cup. It was 10:30 PM, but still busy with a lot of people enjoying their gelato outside. Theres a lot of flavors to choose from. I went for a small which includes two flavors: I picked strawberry and pistachio. The gelato was so good! The flavors were rich and the consistency was perfect. They have a lot of reviews for good reason - they have really good gelato. Highly recommend this spot for gelato in Rome!

A friend recommended this place as her 'favorite gelato in Rome'. It just happened to be on our route from the Panteon to the Piazza del Popolo and so we stopped by. There was definitely a gathering inside but it wasn't overly crowded when we arrived. You must prepay for the size gelato you want and then take the ticket to the scoop counter where you pick from about 60 flavors. We got medium size (5€) which was 3 scoops in either a cup or cone (cake not sugar). I saw dark chocolate which was a no brainer (DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT EATING THE DARK CHOCOLATE!!!). I like to have a tart sorbet with the chocolate so I went with pomegranate which I have never seen in the states. It did not disappoint. It was tart, a beautiful color and perfectly, fresh Pom flavor. My third choice was caramelized fig, another flavor I have never seen in the states and a fruit I love. It was a creamy gelato and I found it delicious like fig jam mixed with fresh cream. My friend got Nutella, farrrrr superior to any Nutella I've ever had in the states. It was rich and smooth, deep with hazelnut and cocoa flavor. She also chose chocolate chip and salted caramel. Then they top it with fresh, homemade whipped cream which they spoon out of a vat onto your gelato. The only disappointment was the cone which I thought was a crispy sugar cone but it was an airy, crumbly cake one which is not my favorite. read more
I came here in the evening on a cool windless night, looking for the best gelato in town. I walked by this joint before on the way to the Pantheon, not realizing the popularity of their goodies. Yes, I am attracted to hype food! Is it the best gelato? Not sure if it was because I was tired or didn't get the best flavors, but I wouldn't say it's the best ever. I got my usual, pistachio and black cherry on a cone (never forget the whipped cream on top), which did not disappointed. Overall my experience was pretty dang good and I'd definitely come back. If you ask the dude working what flavor is the best, of course the answer is "all of them are good, it's Giolitti!" read more

I think this place has a solid fruit variety for gelato, not so sure about the chocolates/vanillas. We absolutely loved our passion fruit and mango combo! I was recommended here by many, many people- so you will find it crowded and I believe you do have to tip if you want to sit down. However, you will find the lines go fast and plenty of people are standing around outside and enjoying their gelatos! read more

This place has very very tasty pastries. We went in the morning and it was slammed so there was a bit of a wait but it was well worth it. We got two pastries, water, and coffee and it was only 7.50. The whip cream and lemon cream in our pastries was filling and not too sweet. Overall good experience and would come back! read more

I really enjoyed the gelato here! I decided to try the coconut, tiramisu and pistachio and was very satisfied. Everything was creamy and delicious but started to melt fast, as gelato should. Make sure to pay first before walking over to choose your gelato flavors! read more

I've loved things that other people say are overhyped, but I have to agree with those who say Giolitti is overhyped. The Oreo flavor tasted like a weird cream more than Oreo. The dark chocolate was fine, not special. (It is dairy-free, like many dark chocolate gelatos.) It was unclear how to request table service. To get gelato at the counter, you pay first, then go to the gelato counter. read more

We came here nearly every night of our trip. Every flavor was amazing. Pay first then go to the gelatos to pick your flavor. They work quickly to keep the line moving, so if you know what you want, they'll help you immediately at the case. If you want to sample, we did see a line of those still deciding on what flavor. Ask for the whipped cream on top. Mmmmm. The inside is super cute, like an old ice cream/candy shop with the vintage uniforms. Wish we had this back home, but then again maybe it's better we don't lol. read more
Pay at the entrance to get a ticket before going in. 3.50 for small (2 flavors) 5.00 for a medium (2-3 flavors) and 6.00 for a large (3-4 flavors). A+ for flavor selection but the quality is not all there. With so many it is hard to excel in everything. For excellence focus is needed. The staff were mostly okay and plenty of signage telling patrons not to sit at the tables unless you want table service. They offer many other delights which I did not try. My rating is entirely on the quality of the gelato and they are only okay at it. read more

Gelato was good. Service was horrendous... the ice cream server was so rude he made my 11 year old cry. Wouldn't let my kids look to see what flavors there were after they waited in line for quite some time. read more

This is by far the best cold dessert I have ever had in my entire life and I mean it, I've had my fair share of travel and good restaurants, even No.1's on the 50 Best and 3 Michelin stars and no one has had this much flavor, get the Grapefruit, Pomegranate and yoguth cone and prepare to have an orgasm in your mouth, also they have the best Vanilla Ice Cream in the world. We were recommended by the table next to us during dinner to check out Giolitti. They had been to this gelato shop every day since arriving to Rome, so we were eager to see what the hype was all about! There's usually a queue, but it doesn't take that long. While in the queue, make sure to pay ahead of time at the booth inside the first room (cup or cone; small, medium, or large). Giolitti has many flavors to choose from! The first time we went here (yes, we went here multiple times because of how good it was!), we shared a large. A large comes with 4 flavors. We tried: champagne, pistachio, mango, and stracciatella. The champagne was quite strong. Can't go wrong with pistachio and mango! Stracciatella was a unique flavor for me, tasting a bit like chocolate chip and an extra dash of a flavor I didn't recognize. Each one had a punch of flavor to it! Fresh. Amazing. Delicious. For 5 euros, you can't beat this spot with endless flavors. I tried gelato at various locations every day in Italy, and this one still beats the rest. read more

My favorite gelateria in Rome. La storia (the history). The staff (super patient) The gelati (abondanza) The shop (so chic) This is where most of the government folks pop into for a quick coffee or espresso. I love the well-dressed men; Italians know how to dress well so I appreciate people watching here. Obviously, I'm enthralled by this shop! Who could not love it when everything comes together. Giolitti is a famous institution. Looking forward to my next visit soon. read more

The best gelato in Rome!! Giolitti has tons and tons of flavors to choose from including a lot sorbets and vegan options. You need to pay at the door then bring your receipt to the parlor area to let them know what flavor you want. I got a small cone for €3.50 (cone and cup are the same price I believe) which gets you 2 scoops/flavors. I got chocolate and blackberry, and it was absolutely amazing! The portion was super generous, and you can also get whipped cream on top if you want! read more

Best gelato in Rome! Loved the flavors they have bunch of varieties, it can busy but line moves fast. Nice big place with friendly staff.....highly recommend to try it I did try other places but it just doesn't taste the same as Giolitti......... read more

Visited from Los Angeles & the gelato was AMAZING AMAZING!!! Staff was also really nice and that's always a plus when you're in another country. I was there for 7 days and visited this place 3x while staying in Rome. Definitely suggest to everyone! read more
Easily the best gelato in Italy!! We went to multiple places here, all well reviewed, but this one is unbeatable. Every flavor is so rich. The quality is perfect. Don't let the large store selling chocolates, etc deter you. You must try it!! I got the Nutella and coconut flavors. Coconut is so good with big flakes of coconut in it. The Nutella was also incredible and tasted more like Nutella than it did ice cream. I liked it but my husband preferred his pistachio and dark chocolate flavors. You can't go wrong! read more

You guys! Their gelato isn't their best thing. Sure, it's solid and creamy and gets the job done. But it's their GRANITAS - their freshly made slush-Italian ice - that's the secret star of the show. No one knows about the granitas because a line for the gelato snakes in front of the counter of Granitas Italian ices. Meanwhile, if you order a Granita (get the orange made with chunks of oranges, coconut, and fig with chunks of fig), not only is it all natural and refreshing and slushy and divine, but it's also ready in TWO MINUTES because NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THEM. Get the granitas and then message me after. There is nothing like eating these. I know you'll love them. 5 stars!!!!!! read more
Amazing gelato in Rome! This place is super busy. Not only do they serve gelato and sorbeto, but it's an actual bakery as well. When ordering gelato or sorbeto you pay first and then approach the counter to select your flavor choices. We went there on two occasions. On one occasion as we had the gelato, the second occasion we had the sorbeto. Super fresh tasting!! For the gelato I got the chocolate and the hazelnut and you could really taste the intense chocolate flavor and the deep hazelnut flavor. For the sorbeto, I chose blackberry and blueberry and you could really taste the fresh berries with chunks of fruit! Some of the best gelato I've ever had!!! Sooooo good! I can't remember the exact prices but they were very reasonable. Small gelato was €3, medium €4 and large €5. I miss it already. read more

MMm, definnitely not my favorite gelato. I could give it four stars, but since it's already gotten so many rave reviews, I'm going to be more critical. Medium is four euros, which is higher than most places we've gotten gelato. Lines were long, but pushed pretty fast. It's a little hard to see what to get since there are quite a few flavors, but there was nothing so spectacular or original. I had the hazelnut, pistacchio, and maybe the rice. I can't even be sure. My feeling is like this is an institution like Ghirardelli Square in SF, but is it reallllly the best chocolate (or gelato)? Nah. read more

First gelato stop and it did not disappoint. With so many flavors to choose from, it's hard to narrow it down. I ordered the white crema (I got a hard nod of approval from the gelato man), and caramelized fig. You also have the option of whipped crema on top. Did I want that? OF COURSE! Go to Giolitti. You won't be disappointed. read more
