Giolitti is the best gelato I've ever had in my life hands down. The flavors are endless my favorites are pistachio, white cream, white chocolate, and coffee. The cream that they put on top of the gelato is the icing on the cake. The line moved quick they have an amazing system in place and the service was great. I think about this place often. The vintage ambiance was amazing you can tell there is history there. I think of Giolitti often I can't wait till I'm back in Rome so I can have it again!

Old world charm! On the recommendation of our apartment host, we visited Giolitti for a gelato. The café is just beautiful - it exudes old world charm with elegant wood panelled interiors and glass display cases filled with delicious looking food. The coffee is nothing special, but the gelato was sublime!
Literally the best gelato I've ever had in my life. The flavors are so fresh and palatable. The prices are also extremely worth it. I think it was like 4 Euro for a 'small' which is the size from my pictures. The servers were all very quick and professional. I really appreciated how much effort the workers put into their jobs. And the interior was SUCH a vibe. It was like an old-fashioned creamery with very classic tables and chairs.
On a random weekday we came here for a swee t treat after lunch seeing all the great reviews. We ordered stuff at the counter and just stood inside since we'd just come from a nice lunch and didn't want a sit down service again. We got a pistachio cannoli which was topped with so many pistachios.. the filling was light, the outer shell was perfectly crispy. Overall just delightful.. but the true hero of this spot for me was their hot chocolate. It was thick, dark and not too sweet.. a perfect combination when it comes to hot chocolate. It was sooo good that we came back again just for their hot chocolate. They have a dining room inside with plenty of seating so maybe next time I'll do that. Highly recommend this spot.. the reviews don't lie!!
Came to get the gelato here because of the raving reviews. We came late on a Tuesday night and waited around 15 minutes in line. You pay first with what size you want and if you want cup/cone. Felt rushed ordering, they gave us a cone even though we paid for a cup. Make sure you know what you want before hand because he did not like when we asked what the flavor profile difference was between lemon and limoncello (we tried looking it up in line but unfortunately there's no signal here). Pistachio gelato was really delicious nice and creamy!! I prefer pistachio bits in my pistachio gelatos for added texture which this one didn't have but that's not to say the gelato wasn't amazing it's more of a persona preference. The lemon was very tarty and refreshing!
This was one of our favorite gelato spots across all of the cities we visited in Italy! The place is massive and there was a large crowd of people, as it deserves. You order the size you want and pay at the register, and then take your ticket to the counter to order your flavors. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate, and o m g was this delicious. Maybe it was because it was my first gelato in Italy but I was actually mind blown by how good it was. I've had my fair share of gelato, but the flavor and texture of this was perfection - so smooth, and the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors were so intense and rich. I can still remember being astonished by how good they tasted. There is a lot of good pistachio gelato out there, but this one was something special for sure. Highly highly recommend trying!
A great gelato spot that was in an easily reachable location - they do not offer seating for their customers who only order gelato though, only for those ordering food/drinks. You pay at the cashier and bring your receipt over to another line to get your gelato. Lines move quickly though. The ambiance is casual. They have lots of flavors - we tried the pistachio and salted caramel, both of which were delicious. The salted caramel was sweeter than I expected.
It was my first time visiting and overall lots of options. First you pay and then you go to the counter to get what you ordered. I got a small and it comes with two flavors. You can only eat in if you don't order the to go options otherwise if you get to go you won't be allowed to eat inside. Overall it has the ambience of a milkshake shop!
In the past, I knew of Gelateria Navona, just a few doors up from the actual piazza, and that was my go-to place for gelato in Rome. Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.
All things you want in gelato in Italy. Definitely order and sit in the back room(there's a different charge for to go vs inside seating). Hardest part of the situation is picking your flavor(s). Also this is very near the Pantheon so Your tour is not complete until you get the gelato.
That was good. I like the pomegranate flavor. Their gelato was a lot cleaner and refreshing. Sour cherry flavor was very strong.
Easily the best gelato in Italy!! We went to multiple places here, all well reviewed, but this one is unbeatable. Every flavor is so rich. The quality is perfect. Don't let the large store selling chocolates, etc deter you. You must try it!! I got the Nutella and coconut flavors. Coconut is so good with big flakes of coconut in it. The Nutella was also incredible and tasted more like Nutella than it did ice cream. I liked it but my husband preferred his pistachio and dark chocolate flavors. You can't go wrong! read more

You guys! Their gelato isn't their best thing. Sure, it's solid and creamy and gets the job done. But it's their GRANITAS - their freshly made slush-Italian ice - that's the secret star of the show. No one knows about the granitas because a line for the gelato snakes in front of the counter of Granitas Italian ices. Meanwhile, if you order a Granita (get the orange made with chunks of oranges, coconut, and fig with chunks of fig), not only is it all natural and refreshing and slushy and divine, but it's also ready in TWO MINUTES because NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THEM. Get the granitas and then message me after. There is nothing like eating these. I know you'll love them. 5 stars!!!!!! read more

Pretty good and very interesting italian flavors. It wasn't my favorite and not completely worth the hectic system they have in place to order it. The line is also extremely long. read more
Amazing gelato in Rome! This place is super busy. Not only do they serve gelato and sorbeto, but it's an actual bakery as well. When ordering gelato or sorbeto you pay first and then approach the counter to select your flavor choices. We went there on two occasions. On one occasion as we had the gelato, the second occasion we had the sorbeto. Super fresh tasting!! For the gelato I got the chocolate and the hazelnut and you could really taste the intense chocolate flavor and the deep hazelnut flavor. For the sorbeto, I chose blackberry and blueberry and you could really taste the fresh berries with chunks of fruit! Some of the best gelato I've ever had!!! Sooooo good! I can't remember the exact prices but they were very reasonable. Small gelato was €3, medium €4 and large €5. I miss it already. read more

MMm, definnitely not my favorite gelato. I could give it four stars, but since it's already gotten so many rave reviews, I'm going to be more critical. Medium is four euros, which is higher than most places we've gotten gelato. Lines were long, but pushed pretty fast. It's a little hard to see what to get since there are quite a few flavors, but there was nothing so spectacular or original. I had the hazelnut, pistacchio, and maybe the rice. I can't even be sure. My feeling is like this is an institution like Ghirardelli Square in SF, but is it reallllly the best chocolate (or gelato)? Nah. read more

Best gelato in Rome! Loved the flavors they have bunch of varieties, it can busy but line moves fast. Nice big place with friendly staff.....highly recommend to try it I did try other places but it just doesn't taste the same as Giolitti......... read more

Visited from Los Angeles & the gelato was AMAZING AMAZING!!! Staff was also really nice and that's always a plus when you're in another country. I was there for 7 days and visited this place 3x while staying in Rome. Definitely suggest to everyone! read more

Looking for genuine Italian gelato? This place has history. Grab your favorite flavors, and for a creamy twist, ask for panna on top. If you're feeling extra, go for 'doppia panna' - with cream both on top and at the bottom of your gelato. Totally worth it! read more
First gelato stop and it did not disappoint. With so many flavors to choose from, it's hard to narrow it down. I ordered the white crema (I got a hard nod of approval from the gelato man), and caramelized fig. You also have the option of whipped crema on top. Did I want that? OF COURSE! Go to Giolitti. You won't be disappointed. read more

Twice in two days. Holy smokes I think for the rest of my life I'll be dreaming about how good the coconut and the dark chocolate flavors are. I'd be so fat if I worked here. Its wow good. I couldn't resist paying a visit to a gelateria that has been around since 1900. I had heard about the caramelized fig flavor and was curious to try it. It is a little confusing to order. First you need to decide what size you want, and pay the cashier. Then you can take your ticket and order at the glass display. So I found myself pushing my way towards the glass display to order. It took a minute or so to get an ice cream man's attention. I was in the mood for something simple, so I got a small cup with chocolate, hazelnut, and caramelized fig. The flavors were pretty good and they went well together. The smooth, creamy texture was great. Each time I lifted the spoon away, the pull creates a gentle peak. Very good gelato! If I come back one day, I would definitely love to try more flavors. read more

Best Gelato I had in Rome. You can tell there's no preservatives in it because of how quickly it melts. Very friendly service and nice ambiance. I got 2 scoops: Strawberry + Cream and it was delicious! read more
Very popular place, we got a reco from a friend and went there. You first got to pay for your gelato and then you get the receipt and go inline to get it. You can only taste one flavor if you desire. So you just get your favorites to play it safe :). Note that they charge a different price that includes service if you chose to sit at a table vs take it to go. We got gelato and tiramisu. The gelato was good, no different from the gelato I had last night though. The tiramisu was not good and it had a strong alcohol taste, after the first bite my girlfriend could not eat it. We told them and their response was pretty much it's your problem deal with it. They did not stand behind the quality of their products. They are also priced at a higher point than other gelato shops in the area. read more

Listed as one of the oldest and best places to go for gelato in Rome, this place did not disappoint. I went here with my boyfriend while he was visiting. We waited a little while in line but the atmosphere inside was entertainment while we waited. I would recommend the passionfruit and rice flavors for sure. Because it was a popular spot, there was not seating available unless you paid to sit inside. That'd be my only negative but that is a common negative for places in Rome. read more
Giolitti, was lit (ti). I like gelato, not love it (compared to ice cream), but I can say hands down that Giolitti was the best gelato I had experienced in Rome. It was such a treat even walking into such a historically lux shop, nonetheless the treat itself. Ordered: Dark chocolate and nutella, with fresh whipped cream on top (game changer!). Just what I needed for exploring the streets of Rome! read more

I'm not really sure that you can really find a bad gelato place in Italy, and Giolitti was no exception. I got their strawberry and pistachio with cream and both were delicious! You have to pay first and provide your receipt. They also have an area for bakery items and little candies. There is a large sitting area, but you have to pay extra to sit. Not sure how much, as we were walking around, but it also includes free WiFi. They have outdoor seating as well and are open later. Recommended! read more

This was some of the best gelato I had while visiting Italy! Definitely worth the long wait in the line. I tried the lemon, strawberry, and dark chocolate. Usually, I don't like when flavors touch (lol) but I did not mind it with these because the flavors really complimented each other! My girlfriend got the pistachio and loved it as well! Highly recommend Giolitti! Definitely try this place while visiting! read more
Best Gelato in Rome! I had Gelato 1-3 times every day while in Italy, and this place remains a favorite. They have so many great flavors to choose from! One of my favorites is the "rice" flavor. It sounds a bit weird, but ask for a sample and see for yourself--it's so good!! It's always busy here so try not to take too long to decide what you want.. Also make sure you pay first and then go pick the flavors, because you have to show your receipt when you tell them your choice! Knowing this beforehand will save you from waiting in excess lines :) read more

Reportedly Rome's oldest continuously-functional Ice Cream Parlor, Giolitti has been serving guests since 1890, and although Giuseppe and Bernardina passed away several years ago their name still carries on through family operating two locations, one in E.U.R. and the flagship on via Uffici del Vicario near the Pantheon. Almost unmistakable as some of Rome's towering churches, its single-story floor plan covering easily a thousand square-meters from dining room to Bar, freezers and Pastry cases, it was around 22h30 that Giolitti was found empty, throngs of tourists now gone and service operating in a perfunctory manner as though customers were an unexpected interruption. Producing both Ice Cream and Food on-site, and reportedly adherent to the same recipes passed down from one generation to the next, it was upon perusal that four flavors separated themselves from others, Pistachio as well as Dark Cherry each creamy and natural while Torrone was expectedly sweet. Less impressed by Pomegranate Sorbet, assertive sours and an icy base seeing several licks discarded, Pastry was also hit-and-miss with the Ricotta Cake dried out and Sfogliatella soggy while a Tart with Cream and Pine nuts was deliciously subtle. read more
One of the BEST gelato in Italy! Ive tried others and they do not compare. Be mindful of their business hours, we went at night one day and they were closed. They might have changed their hours due to COVID. If you're from America, they do check your vaccination cards before purchase. read more

When in Rome ... do what Yelpers do ... which is apparently all go to Giolitti for Italian gelato. O mio Dio, this is one packed pastry, coffee, and gelato restaurant with another horde of people outside eating the creamy good stuff in a cone or cup. And you know what? It's actually really dreamy gelato. The tourist in me went all-in with 4 luscious scoops in one cone plus a dollop of cream on top and an extra spoon to share it all with my spouse. I think the four flavors we got were chocolate, lemon, raspberry, and heaven, but I'm not sure about the last one. Regardless, they were rich and bursting with flavors. I was glad we quickly joined the long line at the counter until learning that we had to pay for the gelato first. So, I hopped in that line and then started over at the counter. After finally getting the gelato, I huddled with the herd outside with a big Yelper smile on may face with each lick of the little gelato spoon with what made Giolitti famous. So, ya, add this 5-star review to the pile for Giolitti letting everyone know that when in Rome ... do what Yelpers do ... go to Giolitti. read more

Let's keep this short and sweet: Are you looking for the best gelato in Rome? Look no further. We had a chocolate and hazelnut gelato cone and OH MY GOODNESS. The cappuccinos are also some of the best and they have a huge assortment of desserts and sandwiches. Also delicious. You won't regret a trip here. Try to come in the mornings, mid-afternoon, or later evenings to avoid heavy crowds. read more
