1/17/21 Just polished off an Extra Thin Bacon & Sausage pizza that we picked up 'curbside' about an hour ago. The experience started off on a high note when John C took my order over the phone. I am 72 y/o and been ordering pizzas over the phone for over 50 years, okay? I ran my own business for over 30 years, and was trained in customer service. John was courteous, attentive, efficient and had an uplifting positive tone. Taking pizza orders over the phone on weekends is a pressured experience, but John C pulled it iff with professionalism and finesse. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that he owned the place. I always somehow end up here when there are people visiting from out of town. I guess it's one of the more classic places for Chicago Deep Dish Pizza that is more conveniently located (for me anyway). My experiences here have all been pretty similar. Service has been pretty decent. Their fried appetizers are pretty good, especially the Calamari. But most people come here for the Pizza. Deep dish is of course the way to go. I would definitely recommend either the Fresh Spinach or the Special (sausage, mushrooms, onions, & green peppers). Just be warned though, the deep dish pizza does take a while so it's probably better to have an idea of what you want to order before getting there. read more

I just wanted a good thin crust pizza. I got the Chicago toppings ( pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, onion). It was horrible. The crust is like a cracker. It's one of those pizzas crust into mini squares, not slices. The sauce is not good. And the cheese was browned over. Not a good pizza. Still searching for a good NYC style pizza. I would have gotten the deep dish but i was hungry after going around to a couple of different restaurants. They brought out our pizza and i had asked for no green peppers while ordering. The pizza had green onions on it so they took it back. They brought it back and the cheese still tasted like green onion and was too thick. I was in Chicago for a few days for the first time so wanted to give a few different Deep Dish places a try to see what they were all about. Giordano's was a little disappointing to be honest. My friend and I got to the restaurant at about 8:30 and it became very evident that they were understaffed. Our server was very sweet considering how many tables she had, however, it took about 15-20 minutes to get our drink order and then another 10 minutes on top of that to get our drinks. Our pizza took over an hour (I understand deep dish takes awhile) so that was to be expected. I don't know if it was the sauce I wasn't a fan of or maybe just the kind of pizza I ordered, but it was not my favorite deep dish that I had on my trip. It reminded me of something I could get from a frozen pizza so was just not worth it to me. I didn't really understand what all the hype was all about to be honest. read more

It's my first time in the Chicago area and saw this place near my hotel. The night before my flight I decide to fine in and have supposed great chicago deep dish pizza. I go in at 1007pm and once I get seated the host states that they can no longer do deep dish since they close in an hour. I say it's fine and look through the menu. The waitress comes along (don't know her name because she didn't give me one) and tells me that I can no longer order any kind of pizza because "they're having difficulties in the kitchen". I decide to order an Italian beef sandwich and some Wisconsin cheese curds thinking "The Italian beef at Pequods was dope and I've never had Winconsin cheese curds before". 10 minutes go by and the waitress comes by my table and asks me to pass over the crushed red pepper at the end of my table because the group a couple tables down doesn't have crushed red pepper for their deep dish pizza. Salt in the wound there, lady. She then returns with a plate of fried mozzarella squares and tells me they don't have cheese curds left. She didn't even bother asking if that substitution was alright. Being fried cheese, I was not too upset and ate some anyways. Out comes my sandwich and this thing is disassembled. Just slightly burnt beef on a bun with toppings tossed on the side. I had maybe 3 bites of the sandwich because the beef was not seasoned well and could tell the meat was in the freezer for a while. I asked for my check and left. If you're in the area save yourself the trouble and head out to Pequod's Pizza instead. Their Italian beef sandwich and pizza is amazing. I did not want this location to bastardized the Giordano's name, so as I write this review, I am currently at the Rosemont location enjoying my Wisconsin fried cheese curds. Cheers. read more

I wish I could give less than one star for the "new management" that has taken over this company. I will describe my entire experience (with pictures as well) to show why you should not spend your hard earned money. The young man that greets you is leaning against a podium while looking at his phone. He doesn't ask how many are in your party (just two of us), and just seats us with no words. Our waitress takes roughly 5-7 minutes to get a drink order, and has no idea of what beers are on tap or what seasonal items they have. By coming back and telling me what's on the menu is insinuating that I cannot read, which I obviously can. I ordered the wrong bread, and had asked if we could just add cheese to it, but she had to "confirm" that it was even possible. We hadn't even touched it. Put it in the microwave damnit. She was beyond terrible, as she would come back every 3 minutes and ask if we were ok, and not even ask us about a drink. We were also served water when we sat down that was pretty cold, but had no ice in it. Makes you wonder how long this cup has been sitting.... Our food can be described in one word: horrific. Flavorless dough, canned sauce from what it tasted as, $2.00 for about 8 jalepeños on top, and a change in cheese type. It was terrible. This item made me almost become almost irate. 2-3 women servers (pictures included here) were just sitting with these random guys. They were talking, drinking, and sitting with them while ignoring the restaurant. One other item that didn't affect me directly was what happened at the table next to us. The party had moved due to a baseball game on the tv, and they couldn't see it. The busser came in around 2 minutes after they left, and had asked the server, "Do they want their waters?" He replied that he was sure, and yet the busser picked them up and took them to the party. He doesn't know who's cup belongs to each person, and just set them there in front of them. That. Is. Disgusting. They should have just brought fresh waters. All in all, the items I took from that night: terrible service, lazy management (standing at the bar) and staff, crappy food, and an unclean restaurant. Please do not come here. I come all the way from California once a year to Chicago for this pizza, and will never be back. Also, don't believe the tipping scale at the bottom of your receipt. WORST SERVICE EVER! I'm not just talking about from our server, but from other servers and even the manager. March 31, 2014 9:16pm Arrived and seated by the host. He was nice. 9:28pm Server all servers passed by our table without acknowledging us. Not even a quick, "your server will be right with you." So I went to the front and told the manager, Gencho (sp?), if we could have a server come to our table. Btw, there were at least 6 other servers or hosts at the register standing around at that time! 9:31pm A busboy flags a server for us, she comes and takes our order. It took another ten minutes for our drinks. Bc the first server didn't ID my friend so she had to come back and ID her. The actual server Sam came and told us how she had an ordeal with a credit card. We ordered a Margherita Pizza with mushrooms. No mushrooms on the pizza when it came out. My friend asked for another drink and they didn't have any more, that's fine. But they charged us for two! Why not check before you charge! Especially when Sam, our server told us about how she opened up the last 6 pack the night before and how she might be out. Almost 1 hour and 45 minutes after we arrived, we finally got our bill. We told her 21 charged on the card and the rest in cash, and we will need our change. 10 minutes go by and still no change bc she told us the manager would bring it. Finally go to the front and get the change. Gencho tells is how he thought it was for the server. As we tell him about our experience the server next to him, makes faces as she tried to look away. The same one who came and took our order incorrectly and took forever to being the drinks. Communication people!!! Gencho should of came by the table to apologize about the wait and should of checked on us. But he never did. Mostly disappointed in the management then the servers. read more

I'm agreeing with the majority of the reviews here regarding service and wait time. I came here for a quick bite before going to the nearby haunted house and knowing that Giordano's makes great pizza, this was an obvious choice. One surprise immediately was the lack of filled tables at dinner time on a Friday night. I wasn't happy to begin with considering the delivery drivers parked like completely inconsiderate employees. Trying to find a spot to park in a moderately empty restaurant while swerving around the delivery car obstacle course - really management?? Our waitress obviously had more important discussions behind the front counter with the plethora of other employees. After ordering their staple deep dish small sausage pizza, we waited for over 40 minutes. Sorry but even with appetizers or salads, that is way too long a wait. Nothing negative at all to say about the food as it's reputation for quality is second to none. Do something about your delivery clowns parking like new drivers while chain smoking and flapping on their cell phones right at the front door and you will definitely be filling your tables a little more. read more

I'll go with about 3.5 stars overall. The dining space is quite large and comfortable. It was quite busy on Monday night for their popular 40% off of pizzas deal on Monday evenings 5 -11pm. We had a medium deep dish sausage and mushroom ($22.75 regular price). The pizza was nice and very cheesy but quite skimpy on the sausage content. We recalled that of the Giordano's in Evanston one time years back as well. Pizza was good though nonetheless and hit the spot after a 35 minute wait. Probably will be back again sometime. read more

I have to call out Bradi and Kelly, who were incredibly helpful when my husband had a medical emergency while dining here. They called 911, occupied our kids, and comped our food. They were on when it really counted. Granted, this experience makes them close to our heart- but every time we visit we have great service. One time we had our kids bday dinner here, and I had to go back to pick up a gift we left. It had been thrown out (it looked like garbage), but the busser totally went digging through garbage to find my kids toy. Wasn't expecting that, but it was greatly appreciated. The food is solid. My family debates the best Chicago deep dish- and Giordano's is always the answer for me. If you like cheese- this is the deep dish for you, as it is heavy on cheese. The thin crust is great here as well, if you're in the mood. Lots of TVs if you want to watch a game, normally not too crowded. read more

I'm always a fan of having my belly filled. Chicago-style pizza does just that. I remember coming to this Giordano's location on occasion. I grew up on New York-style pizza and was curious how Chicago-style pizza would fare in comparison. So Giordano's was the first restaurant I've been to that served Chicago-style pizza. It definitely did not disappoint. However, I never had a baseline to compare until I had tried some more places. I've been frequenting this Giordano's for years and I have to admit that it's not always been a satisfactory experience. I won't dwell on that since it seems something, perhaps a management change, has improved not only the quality of the food, but the congeniality and efficiency of the staff, both of which greatly enhance the overall ambiance and atmosphere. Special attention and affection for our extremely wonderful server, Maritza, who definitely went above and beyond pure professionalism with what appears to be an innate penchant for friendliness and kindness. She greeted us with an effervescent smile, continually updated us on the status of our order, ensured no need was left untended and just basically exuded charm and sweetness. We visited the downtown Chicago location. It was clean, well maintained, inviting, and smelled wonderful. The hostess seated us within minutes of arrival. We had a nice 1/2 booth/table area. The restaurant was kinda loud, but that's to be expected. The restaurant was packed. We started out with cheese curds, salads, and tomato basil bisque. All was wonderful. We got the meaty pizza and it was delicious. The meat and cheese was plentiful and well distributed. The crust was exactly what you would expect and want in a deep dish. The sauce is what made it for me it was herbed and slightly sweet. Overall it was just a really well made delicious pizza. Our server was not very attentive or great about checking on us for refills. 3.5 stars here. As far as the debate over Chicago deep dish goes. Im personally a fan of Giordanos. Mainly because its stuffed rather than a simple deep dish. The dough on top really does it for me and I like the taste of the sauce. We have been here many times but this occasion we had a spinach deep dish with sausage. Cooked perfectly and you can eat it all the way through the crust. we also tried the chopped salad and that is delicious. Very much looking forward to having that again. As far as the appetizers go kinda basic fried appetizers. We had the fried mozzarella which was kind of chewy. The service here is very friendly from the guys at the counter to wait staff. Our waitress was extremely friendly and really made our visit. Ask me what my favorite pizza is in Chicago, and my answer will always be Girodano's. Sadly, my experience at this location was badly tinted due to the service. My party of 9 arrived at this Girdodano's after placing a reservation hours earlier. When we approached the manager, she said she could "maybe" sit us after 20 minutes. We asked why, and she responded "Look around. I have no open tables in this restaurant" (even though there were tables open). After our persistence, she said we could push tables together in the corner of the restaurant, but the service would be slow. The manager's uncaring and rude demeanor only added to our frustration, and we decided we could not eat at this Girodano's. Although I love this pizza, it is not worth the completely unprofessional and abrasive service I encountered. I will not be back to this Girdodano's. read more

This is our pizza place where we have our monthly committee dinner meetings. The service is a bit slow, one server for a big section of the place. This is good for us but not good if you are in a rush to go somewhere else afterwards. The place has a private parking lot however; it does get packed so we sometimes end up parking on the side streets. It's pretty big, there's plenty of room even a private dinner area for parties and they have thick theater curtains to divide the private room from the main dining room. There's flat screen TVs all over the place so you can watch the game while you eat. They have specials so check their websites like buy 1 pizza get 2nd half off including deep dish pizzas! This is what we usually order as a group: The menu has changed a bit, leaning tower which you can create your own combo. We usually get hot wings, mozzarella sticks, and fried ravioli all hot and crispy and fresh. We also order fried calamari. It's fried mix of tender calamari, green beans, lemon rings, hot peppers and fennel served with their marinara sauce Our main meal is of course their Stuffed pizza pies! It's been said that in true Chicago tradition, their stuffed pies are 40% bigger than our top competitors' deep-dish pizzas! So there's more food for your money especially for a big group. We usually order the fresh spinach, sausage and cheese, or pepperoni and cheese. A lot of food especially when you come here for buy one pizza gets 1/2 half off (one ingredient + cheese). Another pizza we would order is BBQ Chicken BBQ-basted chicken, bacon & balsamic onions - and we replace the tomato sauce with BBQ sauce on this one! They even offer GLUTEN-FREE CRUST available in 12-inch thin-crust pizza on request For salads, we like their house salad spring greens, romaine, arugula, baby heirloom tomatoes, radicchio and fresh fennel tossed in a light lemon vinaigrette with shaved asiago blend. We order from Giordano's frequently and they know we are regular customers. Recently, our apartment building caught fire and were displaced. While placing an order from a hotel, the common question was confirming our home address (as our order is fairly standard), I explained the situation. The young lady placed me on hold and came back to tell me that the entire meal, tip included was covered. She explained things to the Manager and he/she agreed it was the kind thing to do for us. I actually had tears in my eyes and want to let people know and this young lady and her employer... THANK YOU. We appreciate what you did for us. It matters during a difficult time. We've always like Girodano's pizza, however lately delivered orders either had incorrectly ordered items, or missing items. Recently we were suppose to get a house-salad; which was missing. I called and they offered a refund. We watched our bank account, but never saw the refund issued. I called and spoke with a manager there, and he was in the process or putting the refund through, then tells me he's swamped and will call back in an hour. The call never came. Does take sometime to bake, so if you're an antsy person and have a hard time waiting then stick to the thin or grab an appetizer or two.. There are a few diners I order ahead so by the time I get there it's ready, if this place isn't overwhelmingly busy, I would suggest doing that. The calamari is great! It's a mix with veggies. I've tried to give this location multiple chances, however last night was the last straw. I ordered a traditional deep dish pizza for pick up for my family. And when I opened the box at home the pizza was not fresh at all. It appeared as though it was frozen and they reheated it. I could tell because the pizza had a lot of water in the box and the pizza wasn't even cut. I've been here before previously and we dined in, and it took over an hour for our food to be served. Came here to try the famous chicago style deep dish pizza and ordered the pizza to go. The store had a pretty good location with a decent amount of parking space for customers. The pizza was simply delicous. It was jam-packed with cheese, pepperoni, and spinach, sausage. It is truly filling and left no room for anything else to be eaten. We literally had to take a nap after eating 3 boxes. It was simply that filling.
