Horrible. We ordered a pizza for pick up. It "needed 10 more minute". We came back 10 minutes later and were told "5 more minutes". 20 minutes later we go back and were told that the ticket was lost and they don't have the pizza. No real apology. No "free pizza for next time". Nothing. We ended up having to eat Taco Bell after waiting a total of 90 minutes for nothing. Visited for a birthday celebration today with a party of 8. Restaurant was accommodating and got us set up at a nice table. Server was super friendly and worked hard to keep glasses full and bring our food promptly. We had apps which were good and 2 large deep dish pizzas. Food was good and service was excellent. Those hard chairs. They are some kind of special torture device! It took away from the whole experience. Never having "Chicago style" pizza I was surprised to find it is essentially mozzarella cheese pie. Lots of mozzarella with sauce on top. Not my cuppa but that's ok. It's my first ever visit to Chicago and when in the Windy City; it just seems appropriate to have Chicago deep dish pizza. My first deep dish pizza experience took place via a visit to Giordano's. Giordano's is actually a chain that specializes in Chicago deep dished pizza. It was founded in Chicago way back in 1974. When we got here; we we were told it would take at least 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza. They make everything fresh to order and hence the wait. Good things come to those who wait however and so we ended up getting a salad to start off along with a pizza. For our salad order; we got the Giordano's House Salad. this came with spring greens, baby tomatoes, shaved fennel and shaved asiago cheese. The dressing was lemon vinaigrette. The salad was simple and light. It was a good starter that wasn't too heavy and gave us room for the star of the night; the deep dish pizza. For the deep dish pizza; we got The Special. This pizza has sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions.The pizzas come in small, medium and large size. We got the medium and it was eight large slices that was perfect for three people. Wow! My first deep dish pizza experience was amazing. I absolutely loved the thick, cheesy and buterry crust. It was packed with flavor! I normally am more of a fan of the savory toppings in a pizza versus the crust but the crust here was truly the highlight. If all deep dish pizzas are like this; I'm all in. Don't get me wrong; the toppings of sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions were quite excellent too but it was the crust that really won me over. I ate two slices and I was so full! One would've been plenty. I was really impressed with just how good and how fulfilling the pizza was here. We came here last night and the place was practically empty, and yet our service was terrible... first of all, she didn't let us know until after we placed our order that the pizza would take 45 minutes, and it was already 7pm. She also upcharged me for my dirty martini which we didn't see till the bill - she didn't ask me what liquor I wanted for it, so I assumed it would be bottom shelf, but she went ahead and chose a very high shelf one without even telling me. The pizza was honestly okay; a bit disappointing. Our server never came by to check on us. Twice we had to get up to find her to ask for napkins and to order another beer. The manager, Colleen, went out of her way to be friendly all while making sure everything was what I ordered. I am very particular about how I want my pizza and it was well done, just like I ordered. My waiter, Jose, was personable and helpful without being in my space too often. I liked how the staff seemed to work together seamlessly with a smile on their faces. Delivery service has gotten HORRIBLE. We order every 2-3 weeks for delivery. Last month arrived cold. Couple weeks cold. Tonight cold. I saw the delivery person go to house across the street with food in hand; NOT IN THERMAL FOOD BAG. It's single digits temperatures outside and the guys walking with food not protected from elements. BLUF: food was okay, service was clumsy and uncoordinated Went with a large group on Saturday evening. We ordered several deep dish pizzas for the entire group, and a few individuals ordered some different entrees due to dietary considerations. About half of us also ordered appetizers. Actually I found a kind of land without adding salt and hot pepper to it, but the toppings were pretty generous and there was plenty of cheese on the pies. But they could definitely use with a more seasoned sauce or other ingredients to add flavor to the pizza. The calamari was rubbery, the batter was very bland and unseasoned, and the dish was called by the time it came out. The bruschetta was actually very tasty, and the Caesar salads were very good as well. Greek salads were underdressed. Two of these separate entries that were ordered came out incorrect. The biggest issue we had was we ended up eating our meal almost backwards. Our appetizers arrived after almost all the pizza was gone so we ended up having our main course before appetizers. A couple of the entrees, by the time they were served correctly, came out even after that. It was overall just a very disjointed meal. I think our waitress might have been relatively new and she was definitely handling a lot of tables so that could have explained some of this. But even if the service had been Stellar I don't think I would go back again because the food just wasn't that great. I'm not sure why this spot doesn't rate higher. Yes, there are two main pizza places in Chicago: Giordano's and Lou's. They are different, but I like them both. In fact, Lou's changed hands from the original family, and our last time there wasn't the same. But this Giordano's location is solid. We got half and half-- the cheese and the special, which is sausage and veggies. Giordano's is known for their "stuffed" pizza, meaning the sauce is on top and the cheese and veggies stuffed underneath. It was tasty and filling! Service was basic, but we got what we needed. The cocktails are also basic (a fruit lemonade, margarita, Bloody Mary etc). They were also terrible and heavy and sweet, so I recommend a pass. They also have thin crust pizza, extra thin crust pizza, Italian dishes, and sandwiches, but I can't imagine anything beats the deep dish stuffed pizza. Plenty of parking. We got there at 5 PM and were seated promptly. It wasn't busy. By 6:30-7 PM it was getting pretty crowded. It seemed there was a hotel shuttle dropping off several groups of tourists. There was atrocious service when we first walked in and we had to wait over 15 minutes until a hostess came to us, and when she did come she told us we were unable to be seated due to not having enough open seating as there was various open booths. Then she started telling us there was made up reservations and couldn't tell us a consistent number and kept slipping up which was suspicious as it is. Then as we were walking outside of the restaurant to go back to our car obviously irritated due to already having to wait 20 minutes just to get told to leave, the hostess that lied to us started making racist remarks and giving us nasty looks. I think the ambience of the restaurant was inappropriate and there was sauce and dirt all over the floors clearly as if it hadn't been cleaned in a long time.
