We made reservations for 5:30 and kicked things off with an Aperol spritz alongside the Malnati salad, which is gluten-free (though I ordered mine without black olives, they somehow ended up on the pizza instead). They offer both thin and deep-dish gluten-free crust options, and we were thrilled to see the buffalo chicken pizza return, which can be made gluten-free with the chicken on the side. The attention to safety was appreciated--the pizzas were brought to the table with separate utensils. However, the service was just okay, and the server had to double-check with the manager to confirm I could order the buffalo chicken with GF crust even though you can order it online. Used to come to this location a lot growing up, so was glad to finally visit once again. The indoor vibes are still the same, the same creaky stairs, cozy wooden colors, and classic 80s/90s sports-adjacent decor, definitely making me feel right at home! My best friend and I got large deep dish pizza, half cheese and half the Malnati Chicago classic with buttercrust. The cheese was so gooey and the warmth from the pizza was comforting after a long day. The sausage on the pizza was savory and paired well with the acidity of the tomato sauce. Make sure you have reservations for large groups. They will take good care of you. We had their thin vegetable pizza and a thin crust cheese pizza. Plus the appetizer platter. My son loved the mozzarella cheese puffs. Our server was very attentive and refilled our drinks and overall pleasant. I enjoyed our birthday party at Lou's. My son loved it as well. The only downside is that to get upstairs they don't have elevators and one of our guest recently had surgery and going upstairs was out of the question. We still had fun. Check them out. This was my first time trying Chicago deep dish pizza. I was very impressed with this pizza place as the sausage topping was very different from what I expected! The sausage shopping was basically like a sausage patty that covered the whole diameter of the entire pizza. I did forget which one we did order. it was one with like tomatoes and spinach and like a mushrooms or something and it was on the menu. We just added on the sausage patty. The service was very great. It looks seemed like everybody there was working together as a team, everyone was very helpful in servicing our table and we could ask anyone for anything and they were willing to help and it was very nice of them. We showed up with a large party and were treated so well, the staff was accommodating and friendly. We called ahead for a reservation and were in luck for our party of 28, we placed our order for the pizzas to save time and when we arrived we were promptly seated and we ordered wings and salads and appetizers and drinks. Everything was great, the restaurant lively, it's popular and a local institution, people were coming in and out but you wouldn't feel it, the team who assisted us were so attentive and easy to work with. The wings were so good, the fried mushrooms were a favorite and the salads were fresh. We are visiting from out of town to see family, and our very first stop had to be Lou Malnati's. Every time we come to the Chicago area, we cannot leave without making a stop at Lou's, it's a must. We ordered the large Malnati's Chicago Classic along with the Malnati salad, and both were outstanding. The deep-dish pizza had that perfect buttery crust, layers of melted cheese, a flavorful sausage patty, and fresh tomatoes on top, exactly what Chicago pizza should be. We all had one piece and it was so filling, we had leftovers to take with us. The Malnati salad was incredible as well. The sweet vinaigrette and Romano cheese dressing was amazing and paired perfectly with the fresh, crisp ingredients. Lou Malnati's never disappoints, and it continues to be a tradition every time we're in town. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Chicago or craving true deep-dish pizza. Lou's traditional pizza's are all really good. The Lou deep dish we ordered was delicious and we loved it! The butter crust was really flavorful and rustic. The fresh ripe tomatoes on top really added a nice touch. Where I was really disappointed with the speciality buffalo pizza, they more than delivered on the traditional menu listed pizza offerings. All their pizzas are really good. I think because I ordered the "buffalou" specialty the first day it was on the menu, they may have had to work out the pizza techs a bit when creating them in the kitchen. The Italian beef was excellent. The beef was so tender and they generously packed meat and peppers on the bread. Very good with the au jus on the side. In any case the pizzas are always hot, service is always very good and they follow-up with you if there's any issue with your order to make it right. Carryout area is fast and efficient. read more

What is better as a Chicagoan than Lou Mal's with family that is back in town. This historic building is not your everyday pizza shop experience. It feels more like you're going over to a friend's house who is going to make you some really awesome pizza. We had reservations because we were a party of 8. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate a table on the porch due to mobility issues. There is a small set of tables inside on the main floor, but it seemed as though majority of the tables were up a flight of stairs on the 2nd floor. Our waitress got our drink orders in quickly and then we turned around and immediately ordered food. Of course, the salad came out relatively quickly, but the pizzas took at least 45 minutes to an hour (which is normal for deep dish). Our waitress and the kitchen were kind enough to accommodate the different dietary restrictions of our party. The food was exceptional. The salad was fresh and flavorful, and the pizza was hot, cheesy, and delicious flavors. You're going to feel like you've got a brick in your stomach afterwards, but boy is it worth it. read more

My first time ever trying Chicago Deep Dish pizza was at this Lou Malnati's about 15 years ago... Ever since then, it's been a fav of mine. I love it so much, me and my family regularly orders their pizza from Taste of Chicago and always keep some in the freezer. So, whenever I'm visiting this part of Chicagoland I make a point of coming back to this location, as I did tonight. I sat at the bar, getting there a little bit before their busy period. I got there a little after 6PM, but by the time I left, there were packed. Service was decent. Tonight I ordered a small deep dish with pepperoni, jalapeños, and extra tomato sauce. It took the typical time of about 40 mins to come out, so I got their smallest salad to nosh on while I waited. Regarding their small salad, it's pretty big! Definitely shareable! The pizza came out piping hot and looking beautiful! I ordered a small, but probably should've gotten a personal size, because two slices of the small was all I needed and I was full! The topping were tasty and the peppers were spicy. Tomato sauce is excellent too! Love their crust as well. Definitely an amazing pizza... One of my favs anywhere and I also really love NY style. First night on this trip and I've had my eye on this location for awhile. Staying in Schaumburg made it a deal breaker. It was a Tuesday night and busy enough. I spotted some individual pizzas but the small was the perfect size and it was the deep dish specialty with the sausage and pepperoni. Let's say every bite was remarkable. With this solid butter crust it never is sloppy yet loaded with sauce, tomatoes, and everything else. No knife and fork needed. We started with a Caesar salad for one and it's a good share. You don't want to ruin your appetite on this, and you could if you got a large. It all goes great with fresh brewed iced tea. On the way out I spotted a guy eating a flat pizza at the bar. Service was good - they told us to expect a 30-45min wait for deep dish pizza, and they over delivered and it came out in 20 or so (always under-promise and over-deliver). Salad was great, three cheese bread was good. Deep dish Chicago pizza was great, but not mind blowing. However, I haven't had much deep dish, so I maybe was hyping it up too much in my head. Got a menu and ordered a spendy side salad. Still waiting on that. Was maybe going to order a pizza to go but info says 30 min wait so if I don't get the salad soon and order, I guess I'll skip that. Salad arrived and it's huge and worth the $11. The gin and tonic was good too if a little small w lots of ice. The salad was yummy but I ordered with blue cheese dressing that had absolutely no blue cheese in it. It was very mayonnaise-y.
