I was halfway back home from a shopping day in Austin and needed to eat some dinner. A quick search revealed this quaint place on the main highway through town. I ordered the lasagna. I got a choice of soup or salad and chose the salad with Thousand Island dressing. The salad was good but could have used some croutons or crackers to go with it. The lasagna was excellent but also could have been served with some garlic bread. Service was fast and friendly. They were right on time with everything. Parking seemed limited but people made do with street parking and across the street. But then came the artichoke dip, creamy and garlicky with a thin crust of toasted Parmesan. Also there was artichoke in there. The dip was accompanied by fresh, garlicky, toasted crisps with a crusty layer of more Parmesan. Boyfriend had the veal Parmesan and girlfriend had the eggplant Parmesan. Both came with spaghetti and fresh marinara sauce. We were tired of Mexican food and this was a good change. So disappointed that salad or soup is no longer an option when you order an entree. I asked how much for a side salad and the waiter said, I think $4.99! This place started out great with wonderful bread and attentive service but went downhill quickly when we found a bit of plastic wrap in our food. The hostess wanted us to immediately order drinks and I had to finally explain we had not been there before so we needed time to look at the menu. We had been traveling so hubs visited the restroom and when he came back he asked if I had ordered drinks and said no one came back after you left. We finally had a person stop by named Raquel. She was very nice and attentive. We ordered Cannelloni stuffed with spinach (still had the stems on the spinach which were tough and hard to chew) and Spaghetti Shrimp. The only bite my husband offered me was the one with the plastic in it so I put it on my bread plate. We finished our meal and left. Had a very enjoyable late lunch here with my wife, sister in law, and brother in law. They were not busy, either cause it was later afternoon or it's Lampasas, so we were seated real quick and our server was very nice. Unfortunately they were out of a few of their menu's listed beer choices were unavailable. We ordered two Insalata Primaverile, Chicken Marsala, and a side grilled shrimp. In simple terms, the food was very good and flavorful. Salads were fresh and tasty and the chix Marsala was very good. We're not in Lampasas very often and when we are, it's for family events. But if you are in Lampasas and want some good food, I would recommend coming to Giovanni's for a good meal. read more

The food didn't make anyone sick but that's the only reason this isn't a one star. The service was terrible. My children and I go out on Tuesdays for dinner. We like to mix it up so we tried this place. I really didn't like the other location in cove but I wanted to give this location a try because I love local places. We play cards while we wait for food and while we eat because families on their cell phones instead of spending quality time makes me sad. We don't stay for hours but we do enjoy our meal and conversation. The staff literally made fun of us within ear shot of our table. To give one simple quote we were "wasting their time". That wasn't the only rude comment but you get the idea. We ordered four meals to eat in house with one appetizer and a meal to go with an extra cost add on soup. Our food was mediocre but fine. It came warm and fast enough. We were brought bread after the food came and our appetizer didn't come until after the food came and we were almost finished eating. A few more snide comments floated over and I was getting annoyed. I was craving some tiramisu so I ordered some. It was frozen on top and the bottom was hot. It was weird but I figure it's probably purchased which is really okay cause I wanted something sweet. I asked for a to go container and our to go order and asked for the appetizer to go as well. I paid for our meal took our stuff and left. When I got home I went to pack my lunch and the 3$ upgrade soup wasn't there. I called and was told I could return for the missed item but I was already home and they were not even going to be open. Why in the world would I return? Just don't go. Salad swimming in a fish bowl. Seriously, I poured 1/4 cup of water out of the salad. There seems to be a consistent greasy flavor through the stuffed mushrooms, grilled rib eye, and the accompanying spaghetti noodle with mushrooms, onions, and a pinch of spaghetti. The greasy flavor is reminiscent of the grease trough in the flat griddle that hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The presentation of the steak and noodle is not appealing at all - there is no color on the plate. I expected the steak to be garnished with onion and mushroom but the vegetables were incorporated into the spaghetti with no kind of sauce, other than grease. The spaghetti with the onion and mushroom does not work. Plain nasty, to be honest. The other diner enjoyed his lobster ravioli - no complaints there. I was told that I shouldn't order a steak at the Italian restaurant. Well, if I am at Giovanni's, I must agree. read more

Love Love Love this little place! What a surprise to find a delicious Italian Restaurant in a small Texas town like Lampasas. The Caprese Salad was yummy. You gotta try the hot spinach and crab dip. I opted for the Pasta Sampler and my man ordered the Seafood Linguini. Both were over the top. Very nice wine list to accompany the various dishes. Beware: All dishes contain huge amounts. Nice little place not off the beaten path- authentic flavors, great bread. Lobster and shrimp ravioli was very tasty, but the calzone left a little to desired. The bread was great but the filling was pretty liquify and had virtually no flavor. The marina was excellent as was the calamari appetizer. Big mistake not seating us at a table. We were met by a young woman who said there would be a 5 minute wait. We stood there looking around at all the empty booths. Another waitress came by and asked if we had anyone check on us. I told her if we didn't get seated would leave. She said she was told it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait before we could be seated. I asked what if I want a glass of wine? She said she was doing as she was told. So I got the message loud and clear, we were not going to be served or seated by these folks. Thank you for making my mind up. Absolutely not ever goi g back there. How rude of those waitresses to treat us like we where pieces of shit. Took my business elsewhere. read more

It was several years ago when my wife and I chose Giovanni's to grab a bite on our way back to Austin from Abilene. It was excellent then and certainly didn't disappoint today, April 29, 2022. My in-laws and we were in the area looking at land and when asked if we knew of any good places to eat we remembered Giovanni's and decided to try it again. This time I had the baked lasagna and Tuscany soup which was quite tasty and enjoyable. My wife and four others in our party were very happy with their various choices and stated they would return in the future. The only suggestion I have is that a veteran and senior citizen discount be made available as an incentive to attract more customers. No manager was on duty but our polite waitress and wait staff were excellent though pressed with a busy crowd and my challenging group. Nikki was pointed out as the person to talk to about suggestions and she was very professional and polite which I always appreciate when speaking to representatives of a business. She definitely should be promoted! I highly recommend this place for tasty Italian cuisine and great service. I will return. read more

Great rolls to start of the meal. We ordered the kids penne with Alfredo and a side of meatballs. The Alfredo was lumpy and 1of the 3 meatballs was cold in the center. We also ordered the penne pasta which is supposed to be baked with cheese and we asked for a side of vegetables to be tossed in. We ended up getting just cheesy baked vegetables where the fat was beginning to split..and more importantly there was no penne in it. We pointed it out and they said would fix it..which I assumed meant they would make the dish again but they just gave us a separate plate of penne and marinara. I can't explain the other great reviews. They probably ordered something else which was better. Just stay away from the Alfredo and the baked pastas. read more

Stopped on a whim passing thru Lampasas. Wasn't sure what to expect. Surprisingly this food was so so good. I ordered the seafood dish with salmon and shrimp in butter sauce. The lemon butter on this dish is exquisite (I'm very picky about my lemon butter sauce) the home made rolls are amazing. Fresh fresh salad. Two things stood out . Salmon was a bit overcooked, prices a tad on the high side. Husband had chicken parmiagana. He claims it was very good.. He also ordered side of Toscana Soup, it needed some spices to it. Our Service was Very good. Lastly. They only have one ladies room so I had a wait before I could go in. That part annoyed me as it seemed like forever before restroom was available.
