Service is not an issue, the staff was nice. The food is nothing like home cooked Italian, let alone anything resembling Italian. I ordered fettuccine carbonara. It came with wide egg noodles, not fettuccine and just drowning in an "Alfredo" sauce with cut up pieces of what looked like lunch meat ham. The cook needs to look up "carbonara" and they'll see that this dish looks nothing like it. My husband ordered chicken Marsala, oh boy. Cut up , overcooked chicken strips just drowning in some brown sauce that tasted beef bouillon based. No way was that anything resembling Marsala. Nothing Italian about the food, one of the worst Italian meals I have ever had. read more

They have the best Chicken Parmigiana I have ever had in my entire 73 years of life. I'm sure all their dishes are good, but I can't go there without getting the Chicken Parmigiana. I'm shocked this place has high reviews. Seems like it should be on an episode of kitchen nightmares. The food is terrible. Everything tastes canned or frozen. Ordered the lasagna which was different temperatures throughout and the cheese tastes artificial. Clearly frozen then put in the microwave. Also ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce which tasted like tin from a can. Bruschetta was also super weird. Hot artichokes, an unusual amount of onions, capers, and capers. We had a delightful casual mid-week dinner recently at Bella Vista. I am not a big wine drinker but they had a selection on the wine list that I just had to try. I was certainly glad that I did! It had a great taste at a reasonable price. The service and food were excellent. We were in no hurry so this suited us fine. If you might be in a hurry, have small children or are generally impatient, this might not be the place for you. We loved that this is a family run place and that the family takes pride in their service and their food. We had a delightful chat with our server's mother, who was glad to hear that her son had given us good service. An Italian friend once told me that the hallmark of a place with good food is that they need to take some time to prepare it. If you think about it, there is a Iot of truth and wisdom to what he said. If you are looking for a relaxing "date night" destination, we feel that this is just the place. Put your phones away and talk to your dinner companion(s); you might just like the experience. We were very full from dinner, despite taking half of it home for another time, so we weren't able to sample Bella Vista's desserts. However, a couple at a nearby table had some delightful-looking treats that we plan to sample on our next visit. Recently, I had the Chicken Scarpariello; my god, the sauce! So delicious. If you're avoiding gluten, go elsewhere. I didn't see gluten-free offerings. But the bread (with butter, not olive oil), the pizza crust, the pasta is on point. Service is not fast. I'd go elsewhere if you're in a hurry. I have been to this place 4 times since they opened. 3/4 times i have ordered pizza and to go. Seems like the to go orders tend to get ready faster (30-40 min). I have had the veggie pizza & meat lovers. For Lago and really having dominos as our other option for pizza their pizzas are good. As far as the rest of their menu, not sure about that. A friend ordered their fettuccini Alfredo and that sauce needed some kind of thickening agent, it was so watery and just so BLAH that i almost felt bad that she ordered it. I have ordered their Penne Vodka pasta and it was okay was not out of this world that's why we usually just get pizza. The service as mentioned before needs to improve. I understand they may have hard time finding decent workers but the ones who are there will need to be trained better. read more

I would give 4 1/2 stars but docking a star because they recently changed the soup containers. $9 dollars for a cup of minestrone to go is crazy. Pasta is good, albeit priced at a bracket that I would expect homemade pasta. The new tall guy handling Togo orders is aloof. The sauces are on point though and the entree serving portions are decent. I've brought picky guests here several times and everyone enjoyed their meals and the service has been excellent-the staff is friendly and attentive and our waitress was so friendly and did a perfect job. We are so grateful to have this place in Lago and I highly recommend it. The bread is complimentary and fantastic-hot, garlicky and freshly made. The Chicken parmigiana, and Bella vista were delicious and a large portion. My son LOVES the kids tortellini and also a generous portion. My new favorite is the pasta combo-which is what I will order every time now. It's massive and has lasagna, manicotti, tortellini and I think it even had baked ziti with delicious mozzarella on top. Very typical for the Austin area, you cannot judge a book by its cover. When you enter the restaurant it has the Italian ambience that assures you that you made the right choice. I ordered over the phone. The (owner?) was so nice and personable! He let me know the sauce is home made and that the mushrooms for a calzone would be sautéed. My mother got the ravioli and he suggested a vodka sauce. We got everything to go. My mother said the sauce for the cheese ravioli was one of the best EVER!! She can't wait to get it again. We got the meatball appetizer. Wow! Sauce is definitely home made! I like to order bread to go with it. It's so filling it can be a meal. I got the pepperoni calzone. My husband got mushroom.
