Lucky to have Giovanni's as a nearby pizzeria. My #1 favorite thing to order is Giovanni's Veal & Pepper Sandwich - something totally old school that I don't find anymore in many other places. All their sandwiches come on fresh, lightly toasted rolls. When ordering one sandwich, typically I order a second - and their Cheese Steak Special is a perfect mate - coming with peppers, onions and mushrooms. If you're going to get a pizza, I'd recommend their Grandmom pie - a rectangular thin pizza with plum tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. Oh so good! Is it top 5 for quick and satisfying pizza in the UWS / Midtown West area? No, but it's top 15 probably. I had a positive experience with a delivery order on a Saturday night. Despite the weather being February typical, the pizza was still slightly warm and the Buffalo wings were still hot! The real winner here was the wings- they were the jumbo sized kind, with a lot of vinegary and spicy Buffalo sauce. They were a bit wet (no longer crispy) when they arrived but once again- fighting the elements takes its toll on a delivery order. The pizza I ordered was a large, just cheese pizza. I have to say I was happy with the ample amount of sauce but would have liked more cheese. That said, the crust was flavored well and the pizza was neither over nor under cooked. This is by far the worst pizza and beef patty with cheese I ever had in my life. I ordered a regular slice and the slice was so old that when I tried to take a bite of it it literally broke in half when I picked it up. I wanna hate this place bc my ex used to love it. I can't hold it against Giovanni's. He's a loser but he loved this pizza so much. He would give this place 35 stars. He ordered from here every chance he got. And so, from 2006-2010, I ate here all the time, too. Nowadays, when I'm back in the neighborhood, I'll stop by for a slice. The pizza is OK. Ever notice that this restaurant has a lot of second reviews that start off with... "Had a bad experience, but after being contacted by the owner/manager in response to my review..."? What that says to me is that management is constantly cleaning up after disasters that their employees cause, but do not take steps to keep problems from happening again. Maybe it isn't just the employees that are a problem, if the management cleans up problems and then does nothing to secure smooth operation of the restaurant for the future. New manager needed, maybe? I had good food from Giovanni's earlier this week, and decided to reorder, despite a major delivery issue. For the first delivery, I asked to be texted and I would meet the delivery person in the lobby. Last time, I got no text, and the delivery person banged on my door (which had a huge sign that read DO NOT KNOCK ON THE DOOR - text or call me.) The dog barked for 15 minutes and my building's manager was furious for the disturbance late at night. I contacted Grubhub and asked about thei drivers and why this would happen. They informed me that this restaurant insists on having their own driver's, and not Grubhub's drivers, so Grubhub cannot do anything to fix the problem. I ordered again tonight, through Grubhub, and this time I called the restaurant after placing my order to make sure that the delivery directions were understood. It made no difference. The delivery appeared in just 25 minutes after the order time, while Grubhub said 45 minutes to 1 hour. The app did not update for 2 hours after placing both orders, with the app saying it was currently "being prepared." Grubhub said that the app will not update without input from the restaurant as to when the delivery person picks up the food and when they arrive, because the drivers for Giovanni's are not Grubhub employees. I had asked again to be texted and I would meet in the lobby (directions for the driver on Grubhub.) Today, I even called the restaurant, and spoke to a man who guaranteed that the problem would not be repeated. Later, I got a phone call (not a text) saying that they had a good delivery, and they were in front of my door, knocking, so why wouldn't I open the door for the delivery. They had knocked on the wrong door, once again, ignoring the directions for them to text me and wait in the lobby. This time, the person who the delivery person disturbed is a quiet, elderly person who rightfully didn't answer the door, because they had ordered nothing. They were woken from being asleep, and we're unnerved by the ordeal of someone they didn't know banging on their door late at night, and demanding for them to open the door. The tenant (rightfully so) complained to the building management about outside people gaining access to our controlled access building and banging on the door of an apartment that wasn't even close to the same number as my apartment. The disturbance from these deliveries endangers my housing. I called the restaurant afterward, and they stated "we'll take care of it." How do you do take care of delivery people *not* knocking on doors *after* the disturbance happens? The restaurant person was patronizing and dismissive of my concerns. I will not order from Giovanni's again. I was going to just not get deliveries from them, and order for pickup, because the food was good, but the way I was treated on the phone was also unacceptable. Restaurants go out of business for many reasons. Bad food is usually a factor, but that isn't the case with Giovanni's. What is unacceptable and inexcusable is being ignored when asking for small requests for the specifics of delivery (which by the way would have saved the delivery person time and effort,) and then being dismissed when it doesn't happen and you call about it. I don't patronize establishments who are rude and dismissive to their customers, and neither should you. You are the customer. Demand respect in order for an establishment to retain your business, and if they will not comply with being respectful to you, there are literally *thousands* of restaurants in NYC that want/need your business, and will treat you with respect to maintain your patronage. read more

My first time ordering and I LOVEEED IT! I only ordered the Pasta with meat sauce so I can't speak for their entire menu, but that dish was DELICIOUS!!! At first I thought it was too much meat sauce but after mixing it with the noodles it was the perfect ratio (more meat than noodles. But not too much). I gotta admit, I love me some restaurant.com action and Giovanni's does it best. $10 cert, with no minimums, and no restrictions on when you can use it. On this freezing cold day, we trekked here all the way from Grants Tomb. I was hoping it would be worth it, because if the entrees were that expensive I was going to kick myself for doing impulse buys at restaurant.com. We got there and sat down. We were a bit confused because restaurant.com coupons usually are a rip-off, requiring you to buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff only to save a small %. We were amazed how friendly everyone was. My crew of 3 ordered a small 16" cheese pie for 11.50 and ate in. (The large is an 18" pie.) This gave with 2 slices each. Total cost out of pocket was about 4 bucks. $2 for coupon +remaining balance. I like to compare all pizzas with 2 Bros pizza since they're so busy and it's the home of the $1 slice. This pizza destroys 2 Bros. Plenty of cheese, plenty of sauce, the crust is a bit thicker too and the slices seemed bigger too. Giovanni's provides a good bang for the buck. Avoid for your safety. I came in today to try out their rolls for the first time. While ordering, someone biked in and demanded I order him pizza in a bullying way. I refused and he repeatedly made slurs against my sexuality. The staff did nothing and let him call me the f-word repeatedly and threaten me for a couple minutes as my order was rung up. I stood there silently waiting to get my card and leave. In the middle of it, I asked if they were going to do anything, they looked up at me and they did nothing, went back to their jobs! I let them know I wouldn't be coming back because they refused to confront him. It's clear he was a repeat customer and they were too afraid to confront him. Or they just don't think homophobia and physical threats are an issue. From the looks of it online and the quality of the food, COVID saved them from the health inspectors. In February before their work was stopped, the NYC Health Department had been hitting them with repeated mice violations, lack of hot water and sanitation equipment, not storing things at the correct temperature all indicate it is in your best health & safety interests to avoid this place. Normally the food is very good and I've ordered the Pene Alla Vodka plenty of times. No more. It was absolutely disgusting. Rather than fresh food, I was clearly served sauce that had been sitting around all day. The sauce was no longer pink but a rancid broken mess of nothing but greasyness and clumping pieces of deteriorated parmesan cheese. I CANNOT emphasize enough how disgusting it was. Think oily vomit chunks and you get the idea.
