Unbelievably good! I had to savor each bite. Visiting from out of town, we took a seat at the bar. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere. We started with the Focaccia bread and if that was the only thing I ate, I would have been more than satisfied. We shared a salad and the roasted mushrooms and it was heavenly. I had the ravioli, another had the Cacio de Pepe and another the mushroom ragu. Everyone was more than happy with their dish. We finished with the olive oil cake. Lartusi delivers on the pasta front. Everything we ordered was cooked well and full of flavor. The space has a nice energy to it too, lively without being overwhelming. The one drag was service. It was noticeably slow, enough that it stretched out what should've been a quick weeknight dinner. Doesn't outweigh how good the pasta was, but worth knowing going in. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city! L'Artusi is such a hard res to get, and I completely understand why! Everything was phenomenal. The ambiance is upscale and so chic. Service was friendly and efficient! Apps: Roasted Mushrooms and Burrata Crostone - Both were beyond flavorful and delicious, but the mushrooms are a must order! They're so savory with a hint of spice and richness from the runny egg. 10/10! Mains: Garganelli, Cacio E Pepe, Roasted Carrots - all three of these dishes were incredible. The Garganelli had a rich mushroom ragu and the Cacio was perfectly rich and creamy. The carrots were a sleeper hit- the za'atar and pistachio put it over the top! Chic restaurant with open kitchen and a small upstairs private dining room. The restaurant felt romantic but also has several families and friend groups. The pasta was al dente perfection and most importantly there were generous sauce portions. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and personable. I dined with a friend and we ordered 3 pastas instead of an appetizer (fantastic choice). We tried the following dishes: *Garganelli Mushroom Ragu and Ricotta Salata. This was by far our favorite dish. It was bursting with flavor, had tons of sauce and cheese and was perfectly cooked. If you enjoy mushroom you MUST order this!! *Tagliatelle Bolognese Bianco (Chicken, Veal, Pork) and Parmigiano. Which was so delicious and has plenty of meat and sauce. The tagliatelle was amazing and tasted to fresh. *Bucatini with Pancetta, Tomato, Chilies and Pecorino. We thought this was good but our least favorite dish of the 3. L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of it being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. We really enjoyed our counter dining experience at L'Artusi, especially the chance to watch the bustling open kitchen in action. We started with the housemade focaccia and Wagyu carpaccio--both were outstanding, with the perfect balance of crispy, flavorful, and fresh elements. My partner and I shared the pasta, hangar steak, and potatoes, which turned out to be the ideal amount for two. We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. Finally tried L'Artusi for dinner on a Friday at 6:30! It was pretty hard to get a resy but having an Amex platinum helped. It was for my birthday and we were seated upstairs. Upstairs was smaller and brighter, downstairs had more of a vibey ambience so i would request down there next time. Service was good, and our cocktails came out quickly! For food, we ordered the: -house made focaccia -mushrooms -tagliatelle -hanger steak and potatoes The focaccia was perfectly garlicky and came with olive oil w/ spicy peppers to dip into. Mushroom dish was my favorite - loved the flavors with the fried egg and shaved cheese on top. Tagliatelle was solid, but probably could have comparable elsewhere in city. Hanger steak was our favorite, it was cooked perfectly medium rare but only came with 5 pieces. Wish they charged more and added more steak. Potatoes were roasted to perfection! Tight space, dark lighting, but the food was phenomenal. We started with the house made focaccia, amazing, and we would have had more if it was free. I had been wanting to try L'Artusi for so long, and, sadly, I was greatly underwhelmed. For starters, I dined in with a group of 6, and it seemed as though we were squeezed into a 4 top. There was hardly room to eat comfortably. When the drinks came out, the server spilled part of a cocktail on my back and on my purse, and didn't really apologize, but just handed me a napkin. I would never make a scene in that situation, but an apology would have been appreciated. The food overall was good, and the 6 of us were able to share a mixed assortment of pastas, but nothing really impressed me. Buzzy Italian restaurants with excellent food and drinks are a dime a dozen in New York, it's true. Despite the seeming ubiquity of these types of places, L'Artusi still manages to feel special and is worth a stop for sure, though I don't feel like I've tried quite enough of their menu to get a handle on how it might or might not stand out in that regard. Even almost 20 years in, the restaurant is still vibey, with a spacious interior, well-placed lighting, and different seating options including a chill bar area. Food and drinks rundown: Roasted Mushrooms (pancetta, fried egg, chilies, ricotta salata): This spicy, salty, tangy, umami bomb really grew on me! At first I thought it was a little underwhelming, but by the end of the dish, I easily could've ordered another. It seems like a common criticism is that this is too salty-- and it is salty, but also balanced and overall really flavorful. Spaghetti (garlic, chilies, parmigiano)- our lone pasta dish, and I'd say that it stood out as the dish of the night for me. Really, it's a special pasta. I think I read somewhere that this is made with Parmesan stock. That makes sense, because the cheesiness is subtle but kind of permeates the pasta. It was addictive. I also appreciated the little crunchy bits and the al dente pasta. Roasted chicken (hen of the woods, scallion): Very tender chicken with a rich umami mushroomy sauce. Good choice if you want to do a secondi. Olive oil cake (golden raisin marmellata, madeira, crème fraîche mousse): Delicious and moist cake. The mousse is so thick and dense that it almost looks like ice cream... in any case, it was really good. Personally, I didn't really need the raisin preserves-- just a preference. Generally, I think the drinks here are really good, though the espresso martini was the lone lowlight of the night for me. It tasted like the kind of espresso martini you could order anywhere because it doesn't actually include espresso. I was not into it. In contrast, the cocktail with clementine liqueur, which I don't remember the name of and cannot find anywhere online, was excellent. I wouldn't say they have the most welcoming staff, which I know can be a turn off for people while dining. However, I'm obsessed with the food here!! Ambiance is a little dark and romantic (bright enough to read menus easily), and it can get a little noisy depending on how loud your neighbors are. Coat check is also available. Let's get to the food: - focaccia (2/5): kind of dry, surprised how mediocre this was compared to the rest of the meal. Would not order. - hamachi crudo (4/5): not something we'd usually order but pleasantly surprised with how refreshing and tasty it was! L'Artusi has been sitting on my bookmarked list forever, so I was really excited to finally cross it off. There was a special holiday menu for dining tables, so I made a reservation for counter seats and I am so glad I did. I cannot imagine how long the wait would have been without a res. The counter seats were surprisingly spacious and comfortable compared to other places I have been to, which was a pleasant surprise. Onto the food - we ordered the wagyu carpaccio, brussels sprouts, garganelli, and perciatelli nero. Everything was delicious, with my favorites being the wagyu carpaccio and the perciatelli nero. The wagyu was incredibly soft and delicate, and the rye crisps added a great contrast in texture. I loved the texture of the perciatelli, and the dish felt light overall with generous pieces of crab throughout. I was expecting the garganelli to have a similar al dente bite, but it leaned more towards the softer side. The brussels sprouts also surprised me with how tart and citrus forward they were, which was different from what I am used to, but I did not mind it. Of course, we had to end the meal with the olive oil cake, which was moist and subtly sweet and perfectly suited my palate. The service and ambiance were superb. I wanted to hate L'Artusi after the hunger games tournament it felt like I went through to get a dinner reservation, but it was great. The ambiance is just gorgeous and very romantic, sleek, upscale. There was a 10 minute line to check in, but we were seated at the chef's counter soon after speaking with the hostess. Both the counter and bar seats are pretty spacious, so I wouldn't be worried about being elbow to elbow with others. We started by ordering the focaccia, and this was the only low point of the meal. It just didn't taste that good. It was super dense, had a really strong whole wheat flavor, and was tough to chew. We also ordered the brussels and they were amazing. Roasted brussels are usually on the sweeter side/dressed with balsamic glaze, but these were super tangy and were delicious. I ordered the garlic spaghetti for my entree, and it was a dream. The silky smooth garlic sauce...perfectly toasted breadcrumbs...I cook a lot and question if I could accurately recreate this at home. Maybe one of the best pastas I've ever had. It also has quite a big bar so as a solo walk in, I was able to be seated right away. I ordered the perciatelli nero and the branzino. I really enjoyed the perciateli nero! Stopped by for a Tuesday lunch with my dad and I am so glad I reserved! Shocked for how packed it was during the week, especially for lunch! The staff was incredible friendly and attentive. The mushroom/egg appetizer is so delicious, I almost wish it sat on a thin brioche slices or something that could scoop up all the runny yolk. I encouraged my dad to get the Amatraciana while I got the BOlognese and Im glad I did because the bolognese really feel flat for me. It's a white sauces base and just lacked the complexity and depth of flavor I'd expect of a tomato bolognese. His Amatraciana was perfect though; bold, satiating and perfectly al dente. The branzino was also good though not as remarkable the other dishes. For desert, the olive oil cake was amazing. It's almost as if they never released the dinner reservation times like they say they would on Resy. They are not on top of checking in to confirm your reservation until the day of, so I think if there are cancels, it's probably very last minute. There were table bussing after each course and water refills at a timely manner. They were very on top of clearing, setting new plates, and silverware. Best I've experienced without feeling like they are disrupting our conversations. As for the waitress service, we felt she could've been more attentive, there were few moments we were wondering where she was and the lunch ended up longer than I expected so we had to ask for the check before they got to ask about dessert. Nevertheless, she was very knowledgeable about the dishes when we asked her and she described the food like she was a professional chef. Maybe that's what she was doing when we were wondering where she was, chefing in the back. Pear & fig crostone (straciatella, pinenuts, mint, balsamic): Absolutely the star of the show. I highly recommend this. The flavors of each ingredient really compliment each other. The marinated pear comes through and sweetness enhances the toast. Roasted potatoes: super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside Brussels sprouts: lemon, pecorino: pretty good, crispy, zesty Tagliatelle (bolognese bianco, parmigiano): tasty, not life-changing, pasta was very good, al-dente in the best way, coming from someone who doesn't like al-dente noodles that often. Hanger steak: It tasted off like sour so we had to send it back and the waitress was nice enough to let us swap it for chicken. Roasted chicken: It had some gamey taste to it, the meat was tender but the flavor of the dish was not unique and tasty to me. This is by far the best Italian meal that we have had in the city. The vibe of this restaurant is completely sexy and full of the best energy. We were able to snag a last-minute reservation at the bar and we were overwhelmed with every aspect of the experience. The meal was just a 10 out of 10. The drinks were also some of the best that we have had. The Service, however was the star of this show. Our bartender waiter was Nico and he could not have been more perfect. He made amazing drinks. He was cheerful, professional, and kind. We hope that we have the opportunity to get another spot here in the future. The beef carpaccio was just insane. Great Italian spot with reasonable portions. The highlight was the Lugana wine! It was SO good to sip on when I was waiting for a friend. Had a reservation for 5:30 on a Friday and the place was already packed to the brim. For two of us we got: -Roasted corn (this was delicious - it was more savory than we expected but in a good way. We initially thought it'd taste more like an elote. It's quite hearty and they served this as a starter.) -Bucatini (good amount of pancetta, pasta cooked well, but nothing out of the world good) -Scallop special (tasty, had all of these yummy mushrooms on them, but it was slightly overcooked) Our server was really friendly and had great recommendations on wines. Came here for girls' night at 5pm before a Broadway show (yes, it's far from Broadway, but quick on. the subway.) When I got there around 4:55pm, there was a crowd already gathering. It quickly filled up once L'Artusi opened at 5pm. This place was popping! It's light and airy--nice change of pace from a lot of the restaurants with mood lighting where it's hard to see. We shared the Burrata and Charred Octopus appetizers. Octopus was delicious and flavorful. Burrata tasted fresh. I really enjoyed my Bucatini nero. There was quite a bit of crab in there. Service was outgoing and friendly and nicer than most service I've had in NYC tbh. read more

Had dinner while visiting the city over the weekend before we hit a broadway show and wow. What an absolutely wonderful meal from top to bottom. There was a line out the door for walk-in's when it opened right at 5 so get there early if you're trying to get a spot! We had a 5p rezzie and were seated promptly. Coat check is a great perk. We sat upstairs and the entire space is moody and perfect for a date night. The mushroom dish was the top recommendation and I was a little hesitant as I don't like mushrooms but am so happy we listened bc the flavor profile is top notch. We also did the homemade focaccia, ravioli, hanger steak, and olive oil cake for dessert. We were impressed by every item. Service was quick and attentive. I sampled 3 pastas with a friend (why order appetizers?): cacio e pepe, bucatini and rigatoni. While the latter 2 were just ok for me, the cacio e pepe may have been the best I've ever had. l'll definitely return to seek out other pasta gems. read more
