The first come first serve sites were almost all empty Sunday-Wednesday mid July when I visited. The creek is beautiful and there are lots of good swimming spots. We stayed with friends in a group site and several single nearby sites. There was plenty of space and fallen trees and meadows for our kids to explore! The bad: Idk why but checkout and checkin are both at 2pm, so the sites aren't being cleaned fully between uses. There was a bit of trash at ours and we almost overlapped with the group there before us. The dumpsters were full the entire time we were there. So many yellow jackets and mosquitos, but that's summer in California near the water for you. The worst, there were several bears that made the rounds scavenging every night. We heard them sniffing around tents, banging around coolers, and people generally letting off foghorns and screaming and dogs barking all night long. The campsite is not equipped for bears. The hosts are doing their best, but this is their first summer with this problem, and they aren't receiving support from fish and wildlife. There are no bear boxes at the campsites and very little signage anywhere alerting people to store all their containers and food out of reach at night. People are also not helping. We talked to one family with their food out and said to pack it up as there were bears out the night before. They said they had been coming to the campground for years and never seen a bear. They didn't pack up their food at night and the bears got it all, and they had to leave the next day. The stupidity was astounding. Overall, I would recommend it except for the bears! Hopefully the government steps up to give the host more support before something serious happens!

The camp sites are good sizes and are clean - very well kept. I agree that the vault toilets are smelly - but what can you expect? Fairly quiet during the day and at night can be a bit noisy depending on what kind of neighbors you have. However, out of our last 6 trips we only experienced 1 rowdy/party neighbor. Very scenic and calm camp ground. We love it.

Fellow campers. My family and I have been going to Giant Gap campground for 35 years. That's where…read moremy children spent every vacation. We grew together as a family there. Covid brought hordes of people many disrespecting nature. Ok I get it. You can't go on your cruise. But what I found today devastated me. Yes they took down infested trees a few years ago and left them EVERYWHERE. Yes are familiar path and beach were blocked now. Ok. But when I drove to our campsite today I cried like a baby. I was in shock. The amount of trees that had been cut in the entire campground was shocking. Not a few, not 50% - more. Although I am grateful for our time there and our memories that will never be forsaken - I am sorry new campers will never know it former beauty. Maybe you can see the lake now. May be that was the point. But our slice of paradise is gone.

The staff was extremely rude and, at times, had a very aggressive approach when addressing us. Their communication felt unnecessarily confrontational rather than helpful or professional. The website also does not accurately advertise what guests should expect during their stay, which was very frustrating. Throughout the day, we felt like we were constantly being bothered and watched by staff. What made the experience even worse was hearing staff talk about us afterward. That is extremely unprofessional and made us feel uncomfortable during our stay. It's a shame because the campground is beautiful and has so much potential, but the way guests are treated can really ruin the experience. After this experience, I honestly don't know if I'll ever come back. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving both customer service and the accuracy of the information provided on the website.

It was fun seeing the crawfish and the fish swimming in the water! Also like the little store they have in case you forget something and are in a pinch. It also has ice cream! However the BEST part of the Silver Valley Campground is Nick the manager. He kept that place cleaned watched out over all the campers and was professionally cool. Nick is the greatest asset to this campsite. And if you speed going trough it he very much puts you in check! If you're looking for a nice place for a family go here!

As I walked up to the host who was sitting at a picnic table he immediately said' Firewood is over there." I told him I didn't need firewood and was lost. He said, "I'm off duty. Can't help you." I asked if he could just tell me where the trail was and he said no and that it was a complicated process. I asked again, "You can't tell me where the trail starts?" That said boats in the lake are limited to 5mph and this was not enforced. The noise and waves from (slow, yet motorized) boats, and the music from their speakers compromised our experience of being immersed in nature. 2. DISPERSED CAMPING: we were planning on dispersed camping but absolutely couldn't find a good spot! We tried different dirt roads according to the official description but gave up. 3. CAMPGROUND: we ended up camping at Stumpy Meadows campground. The host, Dexter, was wonderful. However, the campground is sloped and the campsites are not well designed. Also, the campground may be remote but it isn't quiet. While located in a beautiful forest, it is close to the road and we kept hearing noise of fast driving trucks. Bottom line- next time we drive to a remote lake we'll look for a quieter lake with better camping options.
