I just wanted to thank the Brown, Derby and our server Deana H for the great meal and outstanding service. Basically we had a party of 10 and we were celebrating a combination of a birthday and 50+ years wedding anniversary. We had reservations and two more people ended up joining us and they were able to accommodate us without any issues. Deana was great and didn't miss a beat with running around for 10 people and somehow had complicated orders. She brought out free salad as well as free desserts for the celebration. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and I did see that the Brown Derby charges 20% gratuity for parties of a certain amount and I made sure to tip her extra. My parents are elderly and I know they really enjoyed this day and the Brown Derby kind of whole a special place in their heart because that's where they went on their first date (not this location ) Thank you again for a great day and memory read more

I really wanted to love the new renovations, especially after the opening got pushed back from Saturday to Monday to Tuesday and finally to today. The updates look like they're going to be nice once they're fully finished, and the atmosphere feels like it's headed in the right direction, but there are still a few obvious details they're wrapping up. The highlight of our visit was our server, Molly. She was kind, attentive, and informative throughout the meal and did everything you could ask from a server. If this review were based on service alone, it would be 5 stars. Drinks were hit-or-miss. Our son loved his peach lemonade and probably had three of them. My wife was happy with her Sprite, but the Diet Coke tasted like it had way too much syrup and just wasn't enjoyable. We started with the Super Salad and actually enjoyed it, but that's where the positives ended. Our son ordered the single lobster tail dinner with mashed potatoes and applesauce. I was worried it might not be enough food, but the real problem was quality: the lobster was bland and slightly undercooked, and he only made it through about half before giving up. My wife had the sirloin and shrimp with rice. Both components completely lacked flavor; she had two very forgettable shrimp and maybe a third of her sirloin before calling it quits. I was most excited for my porterhouse and broccoli, hoping to recapture the Brown Derby "magic" from 20 years ago. Instead, the steak came out super thin, overcooked, and with almost no flavor, paired with plain steamed broccoli. I asked for garlic butter and added salt and pepper to both, and it still didn't help much. With so many decent dining options in the area, it's disappointing that this renovation opening didn't deliver where it matters most: the food. They ruined the ambience and uniqueness of the Middleburg heights restaurant with their remodel in May 2026. You used to be able to watch the cooks prep your meal and smell the smoke from the grill, the floor used to be real wood, and the waiting area used to be large and comfortable with a real fireplace. Now there is cheap looking vinyl click flooring, boring grey walls, no seated waiting area (so have fun standing in line). No fireplace, no watching the cooks prep your food, and no smell of the wood burning grill. This restaurant is now sterile and boring. Boo! read more

My favorite local steak restaurant! For the flavor, the fresh and high quality ingredients, and the portion sizes, Brown Derby is a shining star! I order takeout from here at least once a month. I've tried sirloin, filet mignon, porterhouse, shrimp, lobster tail entrees, and usually go for the sweet potato and the salad as my sides. Everything is superbly seasoned, expertly cooked, and satisfying! I also appreciate that they always include dinner rolls, and pack things carefully. I suggest ordering sooner than you anticipate having dinner because the wait time estimates are usually longer than they say, but with the flavors and quality, I'm always willing to wait! I haven't dined in, but I have sat at the bar with a glass of wine while I waited for my order and found the vibe casual, comfortable, and welcoming. The staff are always warm and friendly. The Sweetest Day Special Is Awesome...it comes with a whole bottle of wine...it just needs dessert something sweet on sweetest day.....but the Filets are nice and tender .. huge sweet potato.. This review is by no means related to our server or what was within their own control. I have to say, we used to love coming here for a mid range steakhouse experience without needing to spend $1000 on dinner. But good grief has their food quality and plating gone so far down that we won't be returning I don't think. Our food looked like slop on a plate. Their mushrooms and onion medley with a filet mignon used to be the best... my mom's food and my steak both tasted like chemicals. We sent them both back and didn't want another. It's unfortunate, their prices have certainly gone up but the quality way down and it shows. Plating is super important, especially when you're opting for a nicer meal on a Monday. My family likes to eat good and we do it often, it's a shame that there isn't quality control going on and that the standards in restaurants somehow got left behind during the pandemic. Now you just overcharge us but don't make it exciting. It's no wonder the industry is struggling and can't stay afloat. Our server was very nice..Sadly, their steaks are significantly more expensive than Longhorn. My steak arrived looking sad. Very thin cut and chock full of fat and gristle..The edible part looked and tasted like the cheap round steaks my mother used to buy. They tried to pass off a strip steak for a porterhouse, they totally got my wife's order wrong the crab legs were cold. Overall not a bad place. Food was decent but extremely overpriced. Not many descriptions on the menu itself which led to some complications with the house salad. The fried pickles were the best item we had. Perfect. The bread was doughy but the butter was delicious. Our service was terrible. Our rolls came after the appetizer which was disappointing. The Jumbo Shrimp dinner was alright, considering only 8 shrimp are included for $22.99. Red Lobster offers better shrimp for cheaper (especially on endless shrimp Mondays). The New York Strip had a lot of gristle which was also disappointing. This was for a $30.99 steak. The house salad that came as a side didn't arrive until after the main course. The steak we cook at home is more appetizing. The cook wasn't medium which was ordered. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, they played some decent songs. Our server left a sour taste in our mouth. It seemed to be a lack of training / first day or week of working here which isn't her fault. However, we were able to obtain Cherry Cokes made with grenadine which is the bees knees. Cozy steakhouse mostly filled with middle aged folks craving comfort food during trying times or looking for a warm place on a cold night. They have a T-bone special for $20 on Monday and Tuesday nights "while supplies last". So it might be prudent to come on the early side-you never know when a supply chain issue will come up. The special T-bone is a tasty steak but not exactly a beautifully tender slab. But it's decent for the price. I got the baked potato but they offer a number of alternatives as sides. The garden salad had some nice tomatoes especially at the end of November. I'm glad they had a bit of spinach in the salad to break up the monotony of iceberg lettuce. From the moment we walked in to meet friends there was bare minimum service if you even got that... (Keep in mind that for the following comments they were not busy AT ALL, maybe 5 tables max at any given time of 4 people or less including singles at the bar) when we first arrived The hostess just stood there so we just walked past to meet friends not "can I seat you" or "your party is right over here" once we took out seats with our friends who had been there 15minutes, they got the bottle of wine they ordered 10min ago, 5 minutes later. maybe 3-4 minutes after the waitress left, we had made the decision to try 2 cabs so we could pick a bottle. it took her 7 minutes to do so then another 10 to get our bottle after that and the glasses were definitely not clean. We cleaned them up with a napkin. We proceeded to enjoy our wine and our friend ordered an app with their wine that had finally arrived 30min later (fried pickles) and it was brought by someone else. after 10 minutes go by we decided to grab another person and let them know we would like to order. our waitress came shortly after and took our orders. 30-38minutes later our food arrives by the same young man (at no point in this story did the waitress check on us until our food was served) when it was served she immediately came over to ask how it was. Without having a bite yet we just said good, and my friend asked for a water with no lemon (mind you this is the second time) and she promptly returns with his second water with lemon. the food was good but not above average and you could definitely taste the gristle from the grill on your steak... I could taste every other meat that had been on the grill before they cooked mine on it.. i tasted pork chop on my filet but otherwise okay food. will not be returning here not worth the cost food or service. Wonderful service from the moment you are greeted to the moment you leave. The salad was freshly made with crisp lettuce and all of the toppings were more than ample. The bread was fresh as well. I ordered the 16 oz rib eye and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The baked potato was perfectly done and ample in size. This is the kind of place for everyday favorite or special occasions. I made a reservation at this location for Father's Day 3 weeks in advance. Everything went well when I made it and I was excited to take my Dad out to what I thought was a nice restaurant for Father's Day. When we arrived I told the hostess I had a reservation and gave my name, she proceeded to tell me I didn't have one, so I calmly told her I do and there must be a misunderstanding. She looked at a post it note and went "ohh yeah here you are, I didn't have you written down in the reservations section" I said ok well I'm glad you found us and we'd like to be seated. She goes "well you can wait like 15 minutes" now I'm thinking this is unacceptable for a reservation, I understood that I may have to wait a few minutes if my table is being prepared but she acted like my reservation was worthless but I said ok because I wanted to give my Dad a nice meal for Father's Day. So me and my family waited and as time went on multiple families poured in, a good amount of them told the hostesses they didn't have a reservation and were seated immediately. So this didn't sit well with me and I approached the hostess and a manger had also showed up at the podium where you check into the restaurant. We had waited about 10 min at this point and the fact that they were seating walk ins and ignoring my reservation was unacceptable. I went to the manger and hostess and explained that I had a reservation and what they were doing was wrong because I had priority over walk ins. The manger proceeded to tell me I'm on a wait list and I told him no I'm not. Even the hostess reiterated the I had a reservation to him, and he told me to go wait because according to him my reservation didn't exist. At this point me and my family left and went to a lovely Mexican restaurant a few doors down. I wanted to treat my Dad to a nice steak but Brown Derby of Middleburg Hts. Absolutely failed. I'd give 0 stars if I could. The service was horrible and the manger was an absolute ass about everything. We had strip steaks with sauteéd mushrooms (sooo good I could have eaten 2 bowls), mixed veggies, mashed and sweet potato, salad, rolls, stuffed mushrooms. I think the restaurant business hasn't quite recovered. Staffing issues must still be a problem. We showed up for dinner early, well before 5pm. Most tables were empty but they could not seat us for another 30 minutes. We waited in the car and finally got the call. Service has always been a strong suit of Brown Derby Medina and this instance was no different. The steak was nicely cooked but they need to do something about the rolls and the salad. They used to have great rolls many years ago. This batch, "fresh out of the oven", were small and pruned out. The salad was never great but on this occasion was more annoyingly "out of the bag" limp. We had a bad experience and won't be back. My 6 oz filet (ordered as medium) came out rare. When I sent it back, it was medium rare. Then it came back well done. I ate it at that point but it was too small of a cut to be recooked twice. My husbands burger (ordered medium well) was also rare and crumbly and gross. Our server and the manager were very apologetic. And took both meals off the bill, but it won't persuade me to come back. The incompetence of the staff is just a distraction to help you forget about the food. The filet is a thin chunk of tenderloin that has been smoked and served. Reminder: it's SMOKED meat. Add peppercorns? Sure--just some half-chunks of peppercorns instead of an au poivre sauce, so don't be fooled. I ordered ahead and they made me wait for over 25 minutes past when it was supposed to ready and when I asked the manager named Cynthia why it took so long she said "well you only ordered it 15 minutes before you got here!" we finally got the order and when we got home they missed our onion rings. we called and the manager she told us "Im pretty sure they where in there but just to make you happy I will refund you!" the food was good but because of the service I will never go back. My daughter and her grandchildren went to the Brown Derby on Bagley Rd. on Sunday July 3rd and had the worst dining experience ever.They sat down an d ordered appetizers and then ordered entrees.The appetizers came out fine.The entrees still had not come to their table after they already waited for 2 hours and still no food.My daughter,being a server herself,called for the manager and explained the situation and came back to their table and apologized and proceeded to give them all their food,which totaled $70 for free,which they ended up taking home.My daughter asked the manager what was the problem with their server which the manager replied "he was probably stoned".My daughter said that she will never eat there again. read more

Even from a chain restaurant, I would expect staff, ie waiter or waitress to at least pour the first glass of wine if you are buying a bottle....food was eh- steak was way overcooked. We had a great experience at the Brown Derby on Feb.12th, 2022. The staff and management were extremely attentive. Our waitress, Toni, was amazing, she was on top of our orders, drink refills, and special requests. She updated us frequently and checked in on us regularly. Unexpectedly we had a party of 12, and we were seated within 10 mins of walking in. The food was fabulous, out o the 12 of us, not one person complained or had to have their food returned. THe steaks were cooked to perfection. The rolls and salad were a great start to our meal. My 90 y.o. Grandmother had the biggest sweet potato I have ever seen. My children, who are picky eaters, tore up the ribs and filet. We plan on going back again and more often. read more

There wasn't anything impressive about my last visit. I made the mistake of ordering seafood at a steak place- the steak looked much better than the sea scallops I was eating. The wait staff tending to the other customers seemed friendly and attentive, but I was seated at the bar. Bartender was definitely not chatty. She was not rude or unprofessional, just had a 'business' attitude that would have played well at a fastfood joint but not at a bar.
