Popped into Giselle's on a Monday night for some take out. Place was empty, but I just had a good vibe. We were promptly greeted by the bartender and let him know we were ordering for takeout. Never hah "Haitian Creole," but I'm my island roots and adventurous foodie nature invented me to try this place. Keep in mind this part of Silver Spring is a veritable United Nations corridor of an international food court including; Thai, El Salvadoran, Peruvian, Colombian, African. To the food...... Whole Fried Red Snapper with their "secret yellow sauce" on the side is a winner! Just get it. Oxtails were also very good, but not enough included in order. Chicken wings were disappointing, my wife said not Spivey and they were void of any finishing sauce. Perhaps accounting for the bland taste. Haitian Black Rice, White Rice with black beans and Red Beans and rice were all da bomb, I'm not a rice fan, but I'd order their rices as an entree, they are that good! Bartender was friendly, attentive and walked us through the menu. My only complaint was took too long for the food to be prepared and I found it a bit overpriced for the portion size. I loved everything about this restaurant! First, the drinks...I got the Gisele 1 punch, it was a dream! It literally reminded me of vacation! I think it's called a 1 punch because you only need 1! It's tasty and strong! Next, ambiance...I felt like I was on vacation! They played Haitian music, the crowd was pretty diverse, overall a warm and friendly/relaxing vibe! Next, the food was AMAZING! The oxtail literally was falling off the bone, the rice was perfectly cooked, the cabbage is SO DELICIOUS AND SPICY! Last, the service was great! Our server was friendly, attentive, made recommendations, told us about upcoming events at their spot (yes, they have events!!). Found a spot for some great Haitian food in the DMV! Yay! There aren't too many in the area, so after searching yelp, I found Gisele's . One order was enough to feed two or three people. It was delicious! Your choice of meat served with fried plantains, your choice of rice and peas, salad and pikliz(spicy slaw). Also had a bottle of Cola Lacaye. Yes, my night was complete. I'm really big on family owned, hole in the wall restaurants. I just feel they have the best food and this place didn't disappoint. On top of the very generous portion I received, I will say I never knew rice could be so damn good! The black mushroom rice was the highlight of my meal. The fried goat was amazing and wayyyy more tender than I would have imagined It would be. On top was a coleslaw looking item and that may have been the spiciest thing I've ever tasted in my life(I'm Nigerian, so I've had pretty spicy food). Overall, I will definitely comeback to try other items. The young lady who waited on me was very nice and welcoming and her recommendations were spot on. I've been to Gisele's once and it was a great experience! The food was great! Since it was my cousin's 21st birthday and he LOVES Haitian pate, I decided to order 1 dozen salfish and 1 dozen beef plus a platter of tassot Kabrit and TWO orders of Accra. Spent over $300 which is outrageous but I didn't mind supporting my fellow Haitian people. I have to say I am very disappointed but not very surprised that yet another fellow Haitian establishment does NOT know how to conduct catering business. When my other cousin picked up the food and brought it to me, I opened up the tray that has BOTH dozen pate unorganized and unable to distinguish which was Saltfish and which was beef. I saw there were two shapes. Triangle and rectangular. So I cut them open to find the triangle to be the saltfish and the square to be the beef. Okay no problem! Its not until I counted them to find there was less triangle. To my horror, I realized someone became lazy to continue the saltfish in the triangle form and decided to make some rectangular. Like really?! Wouldn't it be easier to just separate the flavors in 2 different trays? What if someone had an Allergy!? That would've been a lawsuit. Another major thing was the Accra. I ordered TWO orders. They gave me ONE! They told my cousin it was only one order but I paid for TWO. So now not only Gisele's almost cost somone their life by not separating the pates (possible allergy crisis) but they also STOLE from me. Okay. That's fine. You can keep the money. A lady friend wanted to introduce me to her culture by way of cuisine, so she committed to driving 40 miles to order and deliver a meal back here to my home here in Bmore! It's been a minute since we had this meal, but what I remember most is the pumpkin soup: creamy, flavorful and still warm. Other items like the vegetable stew, chicken patty and mushroom rice were okay, but a little too salty for my liking. Restaurants should be mindful of certain restrictions that customers might have. Gisele's Creole Cuisine could be the only Haitian restaurant in DMV region and I felt privileged to be a visitor. Gisele's place is a hit and miss but it is so good when you hit it. The fried goat was divine, perfect, and certainly on the pedestal for the times to come. It is crunchy but soft; salty but flavorful and there is a plenty of it served. The sauce was just a fat from the grill but when poured over the rice you forget about the meat and you just want to eat juicy rice. Fish was good and Ox tail was a big miss. My taste buds did not enjoy Jamaican beer and I wish they had Prestige Haitian beer. So, Yay! I'm a fan for that goat meal with plantains and rice with beans. I have counted 5 times when I have placed an order online then I get a call telling me that they do not have certain dish. It's as if they are not aware of the 86 concept. If the store is out of something, why not 86 it so that the customers wont find it??? Why leave it on the site as available?? Today was the last straw. I WILL NEVER order from Giselle again. And let's not talk about the dryness of their food, the overpricing, and the lack of customer service skills. I once called ahead and placed an order for pickup; they took my number and everything. When I walked in 32 minutes later, the young lady said not only was the food not ready, but no one was even aware that I had an order. That woman took my order over the phone but never told her coworkers about it. Every other Caribbean restaurant sells their meals at a reasonable price, but at Giselle's you have to pay an arm and a leg for some dried up rice and goat and they don't even give you enough sauce to cope. The food here is sooo good. The staff is patient. When we ordered food and I went to pick up the food, the staff were friendly and attentive. An example of how attentive the staff were, they called a few times to make sure that they understood our order correctly. I had my phone on do not disturb but that's on me that I missed the calls. The food is good (the only reason for two stars), when they have any in stock. I visited for the first time yesterday. There was no oxtail, no Turkey, no red snapper filet, no Patties, and no fritters. Basically, they had no food in stock to support most items on the menu. The service was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! There was one visible employee, who stayed on the phone our entire visit. We had to get up to ask for to go boxes and our check. We left cash for the check, but I do not believe it was noticed that we left. The employee was still engaged in a phone conversation. I have never sought after or cared about Creole cuisine, but after a few months in the Virgin Islands, my girlfriend and I were craving a good rum punch. Alas, we found ourselves in the newest eatery in "downtown" Wheaton. Cara, the sole bartender/waitress during our shift, was very friendly and informative about the food. Furthermore, the owner of the establishment came out while we awaited our food and gave us some samples of foods we didn't order this time around. The sheer size of food provided with the entree is enormous for the price. Each one comes with rice/bean sauce, veggies/cabbage, fried plantains, and your choice of protein. Again, I am not an expert on genuine Creole food, but the stewed goat tasted delicious. We dined during happy hour (4pm-8pm) so we were treated to $4 bottled beer, $7 wine and $8 mixed drinks (the rum punch did not disappoint). This really isn't a huge discount over the normal price of drink (about $1 off), but it is something. The owner mentioned live jazz and DJ on Saturdays. If we experience this, I will update the review appropriately. The urinal in the men's restroom was out of order when we visited and both dishes in our party came out about five minutes apart, but I'm nit picking at this point. Someone recommended Gisele's to my sister and since I was in town, we decided to roll through. This was my first time having Haitian food, but my family is West African and the cuisine is actually pretty similar. The owners are a husband and wife, and she stopped by the table several times to introduce herself and then to make sure that we were good. We appreciated it. I started with a rum punch because it was mentioned several times in other reviews. Emphasis on the word punch lol. That drink is plenty strong. My sister liked her lemonade. We shared a beef patty, and the exterior was nice and flakey though it could have used more beef inside the patty. I had the stewed goat with mushroom rice, my sister had fried goat with mushroom rice, and my brother had turkey with rice and beans. All the entrees were delicious but the turkey edged out the goat dishes. And the mushroom rice was amazing. It never occurred to me to soak rice in mushrooms but apparently I've been missing out for the past 30+ years. This place is very good and I definitely plan to return. read more

I really wish I could rate Gisele's higher because the food itself was good but the wait/service was anything but. Service started off on a high note as we were greeted by friendly staff that explained the menu and some highlighted drinks they offered. Everything went south from there. Waited 10+ minutes for ONE BOTTLED beer, 40+ minutes for two standard entrees and 30+ minutes before a single apology/update on the long wait time. All this happened in a restaurant that was half empty when we placed our orders. The last straw was when we received the bill and our server didn't offer to comp anything for the wait time. I'm not the type to go out and expect free things/discounts but when you make guests wait that amount of time, a verbal apology is simply not enough. Time is money and you need to somehow make it right. If this is considered "normal" service at Gisele's then I can't see myself going back. We were at Gisele's Créole Cuisine last weekend (Saturday night). It was my wife's first time and my second time eating there. We ordered the red snapper meal with mushroom black rice, salad and the spicy cabbage slaw which is called pikliz. We also ordered the beef patty for the appetizer. The food was delicious and our waitress Nicole was great. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. The music was great but not too loud. They had a musical performance scheduled for later in the evening that we did not stay for. We will definitely return again for their Haitian cuisine and to check out the performance. The only reason why they received two stars is due to the lack of customer service we received from the waitress and the ladies behind the bar. No one greeted us as we entered the restaurant (mind you this occurred on a Sunday afternoon) and the waitress seemed to have an attitude while taking our orders as if we're disturbing her. At no giving point, did the waitress come back and check on us to see if we needed anything heck she didn't give us water to start off while we waited for our food. I guess eating her lunch was more important than to check on her customers. Don't get me wrong, the food is great but as for the employees they really need to set up their professionalism. This is my second time coming here and we were not disappointed. We had the Accra which was very good but VERY SPICY. If you aren't into spice don't get that. Between the 3 of us we ordered the Cabrit (goat meat) fried with a side of rice and beans; Oxtail stewed with black mushroom rice; Legume with white rice and bean sauce and a side of fried turkey. All of our food can out well and tasty. The waitress was beyond sweet even though she was clearly overwhelmed. If you go when it is busy you need to be patient and the music is a little loud if there is a live performer. However I still recommend this establishment. read more

Little haitian food paradise in Silver spring. So decided to come try this place for a date and let's just say I do not regret it. The lady helping us was very courteous and nice and the food ... GOSH the food ... was delicious. That mushroom rice hinting at flavor and the juicy fried goat meat I got was just wonderful. My date got the oxtail which was okay just because I have had jamaican oxtail which I think was way better. I also got the cod fish pattie which was okay but a little too spicy for my liking. As for the drinks, I got juice and let's just say you can always tell the difference between fresh pressed juice and store bought juice! This was fresh pressed and very refreshing! I called the restaurant 3 different times around 1pm and got no answer. I wanted to place the order instead of coming in to order to save time but I was unable to. At 1:15pm, I walked in and I saw a young lady on the phone. I explained to her that I tried calling to place an order. She stated that she was taking a large order and was unable to pick up. She was extremely sweet and professional. However, after ordering the food she said it would take 45 minutes but the wait time was longer than that. I waited nearly 2 hours for the food to be prepared. Although the young lady was nice I find it disappointing that I had to wait 2 hours for food! Please hire more cooks and more help so things like this doesn't happen. It's bad enough that we don't have enough Haitian restaurants in the Maryland area. So this is my second time trying Gisele's. I've always been a BIG BIG fan of Haitian food since i have a few Haitian friends. The food was very delicious. The red beans and rice was perfect! The first time i went i ordered the chicken wings, red beans and rice, macaroni au gratin. The wings were about a 3/5, they weren't that good. The turkey creole i got this time, was pretty good, i will give it a 4/5. I'm usually used to pork griot but they don't have it at this location unfortunately :(. The macaroni Au gratin was pretty dry both times i got it, and usually the one my friends make usually don't taste that dry. So i would pass on the macaroni next time. I've never been a big fan of Haitian plantains, since i like them soft. So i would pass on that too. But overall the turkey and red beans and rice were absolutely delicious. Spice it up with the picklez and the broth and it tastes even better! The amount of food you get for the price is pretty good too, because it fills you up. I basically had enough food for about 2.5 servings FYI, they have lunch specials (12-3:30) on certain days, the restaurant won't tell you though but it's on the website. You can save about $5. When i ordered on the phone, i had to remind the girl about the turkey Tuesday lunch special or she would have charged me 14.99 instead of 9.99. read more
