First things first - the food is AMAZING!!!!!! That is, when they have what you order available -___- We wanted to start off with an order of chicken wings and the codfish patty - they had the patty, but didn't have the wings. No worries though.. we just shrugged it off and continued with ordering our entrees. I got the snapper (Awesomely Delicious by the way) & he ordered the fried goat and LOVED it! Everything sounds pretty good right -- so why the three stars instead of 5? Well, we went on a Tuesday and got to the restaurant a bit after 8pm. I was hoping that coming on a Tuesday, we would be able to get a more intimate and satisfying experience not having to deal with "the crowds," but I was sadly mistaken. When we opened the door and walked in, everyone was staring at us like we didn't belong and needed letter jackets just to enter. No staff spoke first, so we had to begin the greeting process and ask if we could seat ourselves, because there was obviously no one able and willing to play hostess that day. I will say, however, once we got pass the whole greeting, seating, and ordering ordeal, the service was okay. Overall, I do recommend Gizelle's - maybe just not on a Tuesday... One of the best places I've eaten at. The turkey creole was amazing, it was as tender as pork and very crispy. The best thing about the meal, however, was actually the black mushroom rice. That blew me away. Only negative was that there was only one waiter when we were there, was a bit slow service, but he did a good job for having to handle the bar and the tables all by himself. I recommend you always have at least two waiters, or hire a full time bartender. I will go back for the weekly specials. read more

Normally, I would make some at home or have my mom send me some, but I wanted to give this place a try because I was craving some fritaye. I must say it did not disappoint. EVERYTHING was delicious!!! I ordered the fritaye (fried food) with kabrit (goat), which comes with fried green plaintains, marinad (fried dough), akra (malanga fritters), and pikliz (spicy slaw). My family and I visited this restaurant Saturday evening and had to waok out due to being treated so poorly. The server did not wipe our table down as I I requested and I watchEd her wipe the table of customers who came after me. She was upset that we were a family of 10 and due to being short staffed that evening We received no service and had to walk out. We were told they were out of pork, oxtails and fish yet other customers were eating the same food that we were trying to order. I had family members from New York visiting and my mom traveled an hour to come to this restaurant. I was so embarrassed since I was the one who recommended them to come to this restaurant and to be treated so poorly was a disgrace. Do yourself a favor and visit a different restaurant. The only thing I can think about when it comes to this business is how horrible the customer service is. I drove all the way from Herndon VA to pickup and order from them, when I got there the door was locked and no way to get in. Finally a young guy opened the door and gave me the dirtiest look I have ever seen in my life and he barely even held the door open, it was like he just pushed it open a little bit. (Worst decision I ever made) When I arrived there, there was no where to dine in bc every table was DIRTY. so we decided to just order take out. No one introduce there self. This evening was one of those long workweeks but I knew where to go get fresh food that would energize my soul. I was very blessed to have Fedia as my server and she was excellent with a comforting smile and great service. She recommended the rhum punch, which my husband ordered. We ordered the accra for our appetizer, both had the turkey creole for our entree, and ordered some chicken patties to-go. So far I have been here twice ... and I'll probably continue going because my husband is Haitian and I can't cook Haitian food and this is the only Haitian restaurant that I know of in Maryland ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ With that being said... I consider the food OK and with potential. I have a lot of Haitian friends that have cooked for me and I have eaten at several Haitian restaurants in Florida (Caribbean people/food central). So I rate their food against my previous eating experiences. I've had their goat, chicken wings, and fried chicken so far. The chicken wings were actually really good with the sauce they put on it. The fried chicken was eeeeh, OK. I liked the stew goat, the fried goat was OK. The black rice was good, the white rice and sauce tasted a little bland like it needed salt. The fried plantains are really good as well as the pikliz. They just opened not too long ago so service can be a little slow. Both times I have gone, they have been out of something on the menu. I recommend CALLING AHEAD to see what they have on the menu that day so you don't waste your time to go there and they don't have what you want. I was very disappointed to find out they don't make griot :( ... like never! What the heck! That's like a Haitian specialty. I believe it is due to religious beliefs. So pork eaters... you are out of luck. We met the owners and they are REALLY NICE. I hope service improves and as they get more stable traffic they will be able to make the whole menu available daily. As I said, I will continue going and try the other options on the menu. Food was great. My wife and I got different fritters (chicken and turkey). I was hoping for the oxtail entree but they were out of it. The bar needs help. My wife ordered a mojito and it looked like it was made with a cheap mix (think 1990's margaritas). Not certain if this is a Covid thing or not but expect not since other bars have fresh ingredients.
