My experiences with Dr Laura started back in 2018 for a routine colonoscopy & endoscopy, and most recently in April 2023 for an additional colonoscopy. All where as painless as can be with no complication. In 2018 I met with her directly, and she had a great bedside manner, with a good sense of humor. In the procedure room she was her usual good humored self and made me feel at easy both times. After both procedures she went over any findings and made sure I understood. In 2023 I met with her assistant and not her directly. She seemed thorough enough but we didn't do anything beyond setting up my second colonoscopy. I know they have been short handed lately with front office staff, but it has not delayed appointments or caused long wait times in my experience. Dr. Laura Gitlin is truly an amazing doctor! I been a patient for half a decade now. I had two colonoscopy by Dr. Gitlin. Each time was smooth and great. I recently called her office regarding a health concern and the lady who I spoke to was very compassionate with my concern. Dr. Gitlin personally called me within an 1 hour and we discussed the next step to my health concern. She also gave me peace of mind calling me that same day so I wouldn't be worried all weekend all since I called on a Friday afternoon after 3pm. I never got a prescription to prep for my procedure and I've been trying to get a hold of them for the past week and most of the time the phones are turned off and all I get is the error sound over and over again. Dr Gitlin is very professional. Not necessarily a warm fuzzy but competency is more important to me. Her staff are lacking in customer service. I'm about ready to see a new Dr because of the hassle of getting in to see her. I've been a patient for probably 8 years? She treated me for diverticulitis and has done several endoscopies and colonoscopies. I had surgery in 2018 and did my follow up with her then as requested. Recently called to see if I could just get an updated endoscopy. Staff said I need to make appointment first even though Dr had recommended procedure every five years. I decided to just wait. Called again and a few months later (this last week) to set up appointment and was told I need letter from a doctor showing I've been seeing a Dr. Not a referral - since I have PPO, but still need a letter faxed from his office. They said since it's been over 3 years I'm considered a new patient. Even though I wasn't due to go back for five years. Staff will not give me the fax number - although there is a fax number on their Google search I later found. My dr office faxed to that number and I waited to call the office. Was told they never received it. Asked them if they could call my Dr office to coordinate and she said No they have to call us for the fax number. Called yesterday they said they still hadn't received it but my dr office said it was sent last week when I requested it.. Called their office this afternoon and I guess they closed early for 4th of July break because their phone keeps going to voice mail at 2:30 pm. It is too frustrating to get in to see her so I will be shopping around for another female Internal Medicine doctor. Beware this doctor refused to see a patient of record having bowel issues that developed after Mountainview hospital stay. This doc is also affiliated with that hospital. Laura Gitlin could have killed or seriously injured my mother. After suffering a stroke five months ago, my mother was put on the blood thinner Eliquis. However, my mother was at low risk for another stroke because her stroke was precipitated by another procedure she had. Instead of weighing risk/benefit, Laura Gitlin kept my mother on this dangerous medication while removing several large polyps during a colonoscopy. What should have been a pretty standard procedure turned life harrowing and my mother woke up bleeding out less than a day later. Indeed, Mrs. Gitlin was too aggressive and perforated my mothers colon causing her to rapidly lose blood. She was rushed to the nearest hospital in an ambulance where she stayed for 10 days. She was immediately taken off the Eliquis and put on a blood thickeners and taken for countless MRIs. When you are at my mothers age, something as simple as a colonoscopy if done incorrectly can be life or death. Mrs. Gitlin should never have done this colonoscopy while my mother was on blood thinners. If my mother so much as gets a small cut on this medication it could be life threatening, so I don't know why she decided it was worth the risk of keeping her on the medication. Before her colonoscopy, my mother was concerned and asked Mrs. Gitlin twice why she was keeping her on the drug, she insisted it was for the best, because "you can stop bleeding, but you can't stop a stroke." The doctors at the hospital my mother was admitted to all said they had never heard of a gastroenterologist keeping a patient on this drug during a colonoscopy. I hope Mrs. Gitlin can learn from this and not risk another persons life by what I perceive to be recklessness and negligent behavior. read more

She was my doctor for around 10 years. All was good until she hired a new assistant. She thoroughly neglected me as her patient and I ended up passing out from Sepsis. I ended up in the hospital. Her new assistant is so incompetent. She has caused so many problems and when confronted she lies. I'm with a different doctor now and I am so sick because of her neglect and the incompetence of her assistant that I have to go back to the hospital. read more

It has now been almost a month since my doctor sent the first and second referral that were "not received" would not confirm fax number for me to give doctor to try again. Now weeks later i am told that the doctor has not "reviewed referral" and they will call in a few weeks about setting up an appointment. The initial doctor's appointment was with three other people and i believe everyone was charged for a regular doctor's appointment. We were told to be at the surgery center at 8:00am he was called back for the procedure at 10:30-11:00. The receptionist at the surgery center told "she likes to have all her patients arrive earlier, line them up and then get started. No regard for patients time or the time of the people who have agree to drive the patient. I've been seeing Dr. Gitlin for the last seven years after seeing (and leaving) three other gastroenterologists in the Vegas valley. She is BY FAR the best GI Doctor in Vegas! She has a fun and caring personality. She will answer any questions that you have and she will take the time to explain your symptoms and medications. You will feel like family! I never have to wait long in the office, I think my longest wait was 10 minutes! The office staff are so pleasant and efficient. I would give a higher rating if I could. I tried to get an appointment with Dr. Laura Gitlin. On a Monday morning I called to verify that she accepted my insurance. Her phone answerer verified but said she could not make appt. unless my PCP referred me. I have PPO insurance and pay up not to have to make office visit for referral, but it appears Dr. Gitlin has a rule that she must review office notes from PCP in order to decide if she will see you. Apparently this is not uncommon for Gastro prima donnas in Las Vegas. However, after a week of trying to work with my PCP, it turns out the same person who verified my insurance is now telling my PCP that Dr. Gitlin does NOT take my insurance. Again, the doctor is only as good as their front line staff, and Dr. Gitlin's staff is incompetent. read more

I saw Dr. Laura Gitlin way before Yelp existed! So, I am posting a review now, to tell all that read how exceptional medical provider she is. I changed 3 GE doctors before I found out about Dr. Gitlin; she has ordered test that no one else did and cured me! Above and beyond bedside manners and care. And, if you need a cardiologist, her, husband, Dr. Jeffrey Gitlin is exceptional as well! Both are very caring people. I am sorry to see one star ratings given to doctors do to staff. I encourage patients to try and pass issues directly to the doctors, if possible. I dealt with two employees, Rachel and Elizabeth, and they were both very attentive and sweet and went above and beyond to help. As far as the insurance issue - us, patients have to have the responsibility as well of calling ahead of time to clarify things; I would let staff do their job, sure, but now, more than ever, with all kinds of expenses in regards to my husbands health, I have learnt to be on the phone with insurance company very often - has deductible been met? Has out of pocket been met? Is this doctor in network? Is this hospital in network? No one cares about us as much as we do. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Gitlin for over ten years. Unfortunately her office staff has forced me & my family to go elsewhere. A few years ago the doctor told me about a lab that performed special testing. I told her I'd be willing as long as my insurance covered the costs. I was told that they called & received authorization from my insurance company. Weeks later the bill, in the amount of $875.00, was sent to me. I contacted the office and was told I'd have to deal with my insurance company directly. I did. The insurance company had no record of Gitlin's office calling or receiving any pre-auth for this test. I contacted Gitlin's office staff and was told too bad. No offer to help, no attempt to explain. I paid the bill in full. I'm no longer a patient. Not having learned our lesson, my wife just had a routine procedure. The billing manager up-coded the procedure to a diagnostic rather than a routine procedure. While, according to my insurance company, the doctor does not get paid more, I am now on the hook for close to $950.00. Regina, the billing manager, fought with my wife & our insurance company representative on a conference call. She refuses to recode the procedure & stated she did not know the proper code for the routine procedure. She went so far as to ask the insurance representative what the code was! My wife is no longer a patient. The actions of this staff, especially Regina, are incomprehensible. My wife & I were both long time patients', but I cannot in good conscience recommend Dr. Gitlin. She has an office staff that may be the worst in the city. Dr. Gitlin will be long retired before she gets my final payment. read more

I was referred by my primary. I was told to send my records and dr. gitlin would review and call me. I had my physician fax my records then I waited three days and called back. The disinterested person who answered said she didn't see them so I called my physician again to resend records. Another two days and I called back, the same disinterested woman said nope, didn't see them. This time I had my physician fax them to me and I faxed them. This time they did receive them but she would not make an appointment until the doctor reviewed the records. This was three weeks ago and I have not heard a word. Did Dr. Gitlin see the records and decide I did not deserve a consultation or a phone call? Who knows? What an odd way to run a medical office. read more

I'm posting on behalf of a friend. She is disabled and had an appointment on a Tuesday, her mother was so ill they didn't know if she would make it, she tried to call all weekend to cancel but their voicemail was full. She got through on Monday and was able to give a 24 hour cancellation notice. The girls at the front desk refuse time and time again to make her another appointment until she pays their $250 cancellation policy fee. I know I will not be going to this office because of the front office people. I hear Dr. Gitlin is phenomenal and I was looking forward to seeing her myself but I will go elsewhere if this is how they treat long-time patients. I'm sure the doctor herself would look at this differently if the office staff were to approach her. Maybe a peer to peer phone call with the patients referring physician could help out! This was among the worst experiences I have had interacting with any office - or any business of any kind. I have tried for two and a half months to make an appointment to see Dr. Gitlin. I have three referrals from the ER and records both from the ER and a general practitioner. The first time I tried to make an appointment, I was told on a Friday that the office needed to get my records from the ER and that they would call me back on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. After three weeks went by without my hearing from them, I called them back, and they were surprised to hear from me and still did not have my records. The young lady with whom I spoke on that occasion told me at least two different things that she later emailed me to say were in fact incorrect; she didn't seem to understand what was going on either with me or the office. Another woman with whom I spoke seemed mainly to want to be rude to me and hang up; she certainly wasn't trying to help. After several phone calls and emails, however, I was finally able to schedule an appointment. More than three weeks later (and still only about halfway to my appointment), the office called to tell me they had canceled my appointment, because Dr. Gitlin required that I first visit a general practitioner before she would see me. I assured the office that I had already done just that and gave them that doctor's contact information (they expressed an unwillingness to google it), but they said I would still have to schedule a new appointment more than a month out. The young lady with whom I spoke on that occasion literally promised to call me back that day (again a Friday). The office did not call me back until Thursday of the next week, today, to tell me that Dr. Gitlin has decided that she will not take me on as a patient - despite now having both my ER and my GP records. In summary, Dr. Gitlin's office seems like it must be busy enough that they can afford to be consistently very rude to patients, act as if patients are quite irritating, and generally unhelpful. After two and a half months of scheduling and canceling appointments for me, Dr. Gitlin has declined to take me on as a patient. One woman who answers the phone seems clueless and the other is extremely rude. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you save yourself the frustration of trying to deal with Dr. Gitlin's office; it was a demeaning, bewildering, and painful experience, and now I am left to begin the process of trying to see a gastroenterologist all over again. read more
