The major points taken off here are for terrible service that just completely ruined the meal. The food was pretty good. We had calamari and the stuffed crust pizza and we liked it but the service just ruined it. We had to chase down everything. When we received the calamari I immediately asked for lemon. By the time I received it 10 minutes later, it didnt matter, the food was gone. The iced tea was served in the worlds smallest glass, I had to chase the guy down for one refill which came when I was nearly done with my food. The server laughed at us when we asked for larger plates for our pizza slices. I guess most people dont mind eating their pizza on plates smaller than the pizza slices? Then when the guy came to clear the plates away he grabbed all of our uneaten crust off of the plates with his bare hands and threw it into a cup. It was so unappetizing and then spouted out, uh....I dont know if I know what I am doing. The part that had us most annoyed is the service wasnt bad because they were swamped, it was just a matter of the servers being lazy and inattentive. Really nice atmosphere. Veal Marsala not to my liking at all; the meat had the consistency of a cube steak, and not much flavor in the meat or sauce. Being a Italian American born in Italy with roots still there, I know a thing about true Neopolitan wood fired oven pizza. I love it!!. Residing in Munster IN I've had to venture to chicago to places such as Spacca di Napoli to get my fix of this authentic Italian pizza. Happy to have discovered Giuseppes Restaurant in Schererville IN. It just opened this week. My wife, son and I enjoyed appetizers of the Arancini which to me is what comfort food is all about. The Arancini had a wonderful combination of rice, cheese, tomato sauce, meat and lovely peas all fried to perfection. The Fried Calamari was a winner as well accompanied with a delightful tomato based sauce for dipping. Yet, the Champions were the Neopolitan pizza's my wife and I ordered. She enjoyed her Margherita pizza with the fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, basil and extra vergin olive oil, while I hit it out of the park with the Quattro Stagione pizza which had my pie divided into 4 sections each with there respective toppings (artichoke, mushrooms, sausage, and black olives). There are lots of pizza joints and even Italian restsurants in NorthWest Indiana that serve pizza, but I have to say Giusepppe's is the only one which leaves me with the feeling i'm eating in Italy. For those who prefer traditional Chicago thin crust, stuffed crust, or deep dish pizza they also have that available with the owner having previously had his previous pizzaria in Lansing IL. Seems this family restaurant is a master at making pizza. I looking forward to coming often and tryiing their various pasta dishes and artisan sandwiches on my future visits to this place. The place has pick up and dine in service. I'm not sure if they do delivery, as they did in their previous Lansing location. Dine in service is just like I like it, you seat yourself, they bring out the food to you in real china and silver wear etc, like Pompei Restaurants in Chicago. In this way aside from the already reasonable prices, I'm not having to add a tip to the ultimate cost of my dining experiance. Do yourself a favor and check out the place!! read more

Best Pizza around, easy!!! They have awesome pizza. Their thin crust is the best. We have yet to try their deep dish. My wife is from NJ and she has had a hard time finding pizza out here that compares to NJ/NY. But THIS DOES!!! The calamari is fresh and tender. The cheese and sauce is great. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for!!! The atmosphere is elegant and authentic. Very clean. The bathrooms are beautiful and very clean. Friendly staff and very efficient. If you are a fan of very well executed authentic Italian cooking using fresh home made ingredients this is the place for you! It is quaint, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced with terrific service (Anna & her son). I highly recommend the Arincini (fried rice ball ) Not easy to pull off but Giuseppe's is outstanding. The home made sauce makes you want to lick the plate. The pizza with kalamata olives and portobella did not disappoint. My only suggestion would be to use the pit less kalamata. Lovely house Pinot Grigio at a terrific price. If you are accustomed to Pizza Hut or some of the region's greasy cornmeal crusted pizza there might be a bit of a learning curve to get this kind of pizza. But, if you have ever had true neapolitan wood fire pizza please don't miss this place! The place is small and depending on the time of day may not be able to accommodate really large groups but based on the service I received, I would bet they would do their best make it work. And while the place is not on the main roads or in the clusters of random chain restaurants in the area, it is only a quick short trip to it off of HWYS 30 / 41 not is some far flung unable to locate spot. While chains serve a purpose this family owned spot should not be missed! I cannot wait for my next visit here! read more

The food is very good but the servers are very slow and unattentive for such a small place and many times I have been in that they were not busy and same service. I have been in there several times and it is always the same no matter what time of day. They need to tell wait staff that they need to serve the customers like they worry about their conversations or how they are looking at the moment. The arancini is awesome, chicken francese is awesome, and we have not had a bad meal from the variety that they serve. Food is great, service not so great! read more

Tried Giuseppe's for the first time last week. Did a carryout order of Gnocchi and meatballs and a Margherita pizza - both were great! Also took home an order of pistachio gelato that my daughter loved. (She would go back just for that.) The young lady at the counter that waited on us was welcoming and friendly. Will definitely pass the word to my friends to try this place but they may hesitate eating there if they want a glass of wine with dinner. Hope they get a liquor license soon - would be good to see a family business do well. read more

Good Food, horrible service. We are from Chicago (recently relocated to Munster). My family is from northern Italy and my husbands family are from various other parts throughout Italy. We saw some of the reviews , so we figured what the heck, why not visit this place and give it a try. The atmosphere is just lovely, quaint, and very clean. The actual restaurant will only seat 12-15 people comfortably. It is very small here. Yes, it is tiny. But very nicely decorated and would make for a nice evening out with a small crowd. Because of the tiny quarters, you will be left to feel like everyone can hear your business, so if you are looking for a secluded , or private setting, this is definitely NOT the place to go. The wait staff are definitely not primed or experienced restaurant staff, let alone in Italian dining or pizza venues. I find that ironic considering that the staff are family related (sister in laws, daughter in laws and grand daughters or cousins waiting on staff). This is where you will become displeased. They lack experience (or the care to be just that) and are less than personable. They do not explain the pizza sizes , hence the other reviewers complaints with the restaurant. We too experienced size variations and were left ordering more pizza vs. getting a bigger size. The owner whom has always been there each time we have frequented the restaurant has a hands off approach and does not interact with customers and is less than friendly on all occasions. Honestly , comes off very arrogant and snobby and doesn't smile, or say thank you when he does have interaction with you ( either paying for your bill or by passing your table). Now to the drinks and food. The restaurant does not have its own soda fountain or dispenser, so you are forced to purchase bottles of pop individually (can be very costly). Additionally, the do not have kid friendly cups, instead you are forced to give a toddler or a young child a very heavy glass with no lid. You would think that a family style pizzeria / Italian restaurant would have at the very least kid cups, nope , not at this place. And god forbid you question that, they cop an attitude and look at you like your from another planet. The food on the other hand, is what keeps us ordering and frequenting the restaurant. Although, we find ourselves lately ordering out off of their menu, however if we don't have our children and want a nice bite to eat quickly, we head on in. Everything from the appetizers, soup, salads, sandwiches, pasta and especially the deep dish pizza's very good. In fact, I don't think you will find comparable to their pizza's in the area. The food is always the freshest of fresh and extremely tasty and hot when being served. You will not find any of their food being pre-made and frozen , reheated and served ever. Everything is authentic and delish. Like I mentioned above, the actual person to person service provided on every visit be it inside or through take out has always been less than pleasing and leave a bitter taste in ones mouth. If the restaurant owner could be a little more friendly and hire experienced wait staff , hostess and front counter help , I could see their restaurant being a very stellar name in the NW Indiana area. First time visit for dinner. Ordered calamari for appetizer. It was ok. Told server to bring me what you think is your best dish. No price consideration. Got a salad...it was ok. Ordered garlic bread and it was terrible. Dry hard no garlic taste.Main meal was chicken parmesan. I would give it a 3 on 5 points. Ordered tiramisu and it was delicious. The final stunner was you can't leave tip on credit card...it must be cash. You should inform your patrons up front. I had to leave a $20. Tip. Pricey and food is marginal. Very nice decor on the inside. Not a large restaurant, but it has about a dozen tables. Very cozy. Went there for lunch. Ordered the Italian beef sandwich. It was delicious. The bread was fresh. I liked the fact that they put the sauce on the side. Some places put too much sauce and it gets the bread soggy. The service was good. Did not have to wait long to get served. I am giving them 5 stars for the food. 3 of us ate there late yesterday afternoon. There was only one wait person. There must have been 18 people eating. I am sure he was doing the best he could but he was way over his head. He was seating people, handing out menus, taking and delivering drink orders and bread, take food orders, delivering food and taking money, handing out to go orders and cleaning off tables. I asked if he was going to get some help and he was very nice and did not complain. He just said, with a smile on his face, that a whole bunch of people came at one time and that he preferred to be busy. He was very nice but I know our service, though doing the best that he could, was lacking. We had to ask for water twice, for another can of pop and for more bread. On top of that my order was not correct and had to be sent back. As everyone knows this is NOT a fast food joint so it took awhile for my meal to be made and brought to me. I really think that there should be more than one wait person. The bread which I have had before was way over done and that was a disappointment because it is delicious. On a lighter note the food was absolutely delicious. The sauce is to die for! I love this place so I just thought I would take the time to voice my concerns. thank you for listening. read more

This is a quaint little restaurant near the AMC movie theaters in Schererville. It is nicely decorated with Italian music playing in the background. We have tried several items on the menu and they all were delicious. The Margarita pizza is wonderful, crispy outside, chewy inside crust. The Italian beef sandwiches are so good and served on the best bread. You can order carry out and drive to the back of the restaurant for pick up at the window. Giuseppe's is hands down, the only place within the south suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana that serves pizza that tastes just like the ones I have eaten in Italy (and I have been their four times). They, unlike many "Italian restaurants" nowadays, make their own homemade pasta sauce, which is something that is difficult to find. Several friends had recommended Giuseppe's. We finally got a chance to eat there this evening and wish we had not waited so long. The spinach ravioli and the lasagna were both exceptionally good. A nice bottle of Merlot and tiramisu for desert completed a thoroughly enjoyable meal. The restaurant only seats 30 to 35 people, and fills up quickly on a Sunday afternoon, but has a very comfortable feel and is immaculately decorated with very interesting murals. The service was very timely and friendly. Giuseppe's nephew was our server and at different times during dinner we talked to Giuseppe, his brother and his very charming mom. People went out of their way to be congenial and make us feel welcome. This is a family owned restaurant with delicious food and friendly service. We will definitely go back. read more

Had dinner here last night with friends. Thought they were taking us to a little hole in the wall off the beaten path and was I in for a surprise! The restaurant is small, just a few tables, but gorgeous! And the food! Absolutely delicious! The prices are within range of other Italian restaurants. The Italian sausage sandwich was big enough for two, and the french fries enough to share. The chicken francese was tender, lemony and flavorful, served over pasta and enough for leftovers. The thin crust cheese pizza was done perfectly, and tasted better than I've had in a long time. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We explained that it was our first visit, and asked for advice on what to order. Decided on a "Neapolitan Wood Fired Pizza" with mushrooms, and black olives. While waiting we had salads and garlic bread. No options for Romaine Lettuce, just iceberg. Garlic Bread was a sandwich roll cut in half, with butter and garlic seasoning. When the Pizza was delivered to the table the waiter says, "oh, by the way, we don't pit the olives". The cheese and marinara/pizza sauce were quite tasteless, and it was the worst Italian restaurant experience we have had so far in 2015. me and my wife have been talking about trying for a while. well we finally went in for lunch and she ordered chicken and vegetables, while I had the lasagna. while I must admit I enjoyed my lasagna, my wifes chicken and vegetables were frozen from a bag...I could not believe it.... birds eye frozen vegetables and a frozen chicken breast with the painted on grill marks....WOW... all I can say is fool me once, shame on you there will not be another opportunity to fool me again. still cant believe I was served frozen food from this Italian restaurant. the service was decent. iam glad I tried the place because at least now I know what they are all about. a fast buck. they got mine........once. read more

My husband and I discovered this place accidentally, and I'm so glad we did. I cannot believe there is such a gem outside of the city. The arancini is one, larger portion, and it was perfectly fresh. The flavor was amazing, the sauce was sweet, and the crunch on the crust was amazing. I cannot believe it's only four and some change. We then had the margarita con buffala, and it was tasty. Great flavors. I loved the chew of the crust, and even though it was a little floppy, nothing slid off, and it held together well. My husband did say that it was too greasy for him, but I feel it was more sauce than grease. We now get the thin crust, which we both agree is great. I was also surprised to find that even though this place is a little tucked away, the small and quaint dining area filled up immediately. That tells you that people know this place is good. I can't wait to eat there again and try other items off the menu. Just know, the dining area is small, and some tables are directly in front of the register, in tight quarters, or right by the door. Unfortunately the Neapolitan style sausage pizza I ordered was soggy, not thin and crisp, as it should should have been - coming from the highly touted wood fired pizza oven. I also ordered a side of calamari - it was very dark and tasted as if it was overcooked in old oil. While Giuseppe's may look good on paper - the execution was poor. read more

We didn't try this place for a long time because it sits in a rather unattractive strip mall, but other recommendations persuaded us. Our first foray was ordering pizza via carryout, and it was delicious. Then we dined in, and the pastas are excellent. It is very small, thought, so you step right into the dining area upon entering. If the dozen or so tables are full, there is no place to wait. Luckily they have a back door for carryout orders, so that doesn't disrupt the experience. I've tried this place twice and there won't be a third. The wait staff is non-existent. The young lady who worked our table stopped to drop off water glasses, take our order, and drop off the food. Be prepared to refill your water glass or soft drink glass with water from the water dispenser on the front counter on your own. The restaurant was not very busy just before dinner time so it was not a matter of the business being understaffed at the time. The waitress did not check to see if our meals were prepared correctly at all or determine if we wanted dessert even. My wife and I opted for a wood fire oven pizza (sausage and mushroom). The watery sauce was bland and unremarkable. The pizza was cut when it reached the table and the crust was soggy...barely edible. We've had wood oven pizza in NJ that was nearly the best I've ever had. Guiseppe's didn't hold a candle to a frozen pizza let alone the NJ wood oven pizza. There were a couple young men who were behind the register counter and mingling around the dining area who disregarded us as well. I've read the other reviews raving about the arancini. I've had arancini before and the ones at this restaurant are nothing to write home about. The rice is thickly covered with a cornmeal mix the consistency of a hush puppy...way too much coating for an authentic arancini. If you want to disregard this review as bogus and try Guiseppe's on your own you better do so in short order because I doubt it will be around in six months. read more

Went here for my mom's birthday with nine people. Didn't realize that the place was so small and they don't take reservations. But they were very accommodating and made sure everyone had a place to sit while we waited for tables to fit our group. We didn't have to wait long and ordered while we waited for the table. When we sat down, we got our food in no time at all. I ordered the Gnocchi and I love it, tasted great and the meatballs tasted homemade. We found this restaurant because it was one of the few Italian restaurants in NW Indiana that has Linguine with clam sauce. My mom ordered this and loved it, she was surprised with how much clams were in this and loved it. She also receive a free dessert for her birthday, which prompted the whole group to order, the tiramsiu was great and the cannoli's tasted homemade. Some members of the group ordered a pizza and they said it was great. The food is great, can't wait till they get their liquor license. I would definitely come back here. The only downfall is the size, but like I said I didn't have to wait long. It's in a weird location, but that doesn't seem to be hurting the business. read more

Read about this place in NWI times.The article was interesting with a nice looking margherita pizza coming out of a wood burning oven.I had to check the place out myself.I consider myself up to speed on neapolitan pizza...been to Spacca Napoli,Sapore di Napoli,Nella's,etc.Not to mention traveling to Italy quite a few times.I can't believe a Authentic Neapolitan Pizzeria in NWI!Anyway I went there tonight and the place was packed!I waited a little to be seated...not a problem if the food is good,right?Well, I ordered some arancini & margherita con bufala,Melanzane & Funghi.Having tried arancini before these were excellent!The pizzas were also excellent...LOL.I cant stop laughing at the fact that this food was offered in a place in SCHERERVILLE,IN! We heard of this place through family so we decided to try out something new and fresh, boy were we surprised and not in a good way!!!! First off it is a very tiny place you are entreated to everyone's conversation whether you want to hear them or not. The bread that came to the table was obviously from shelve to oven cheap garlic rolls and hard butter from the plastic cups with the tear off tops. We had to ask for the olive oil in a supposed Italian restaurant. So my wife ordered the Veal Marsala, and I the Chicken Francese. My wife asked to substitute pasta for vegetables a 2.50 up charge for carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. The meal came and to our surprise the veal was processed and the Marasala was was just brown gravy minus the Marsala. The Chicken Francese was also veal "hey! Veal for everyone" The waiter says he does not know how that happened. Not wanting to wait another 25 minutes for dinner I ate one piece bagged it up and threw it out when we got home. A free dessert was offered for our trouble which was very un-authentic tiramisu with a heavy coffee taste. One other thing I noticed was the menu stated that they cook their pizza in a brick oven, however the pizza oven I saw through the window when I paid my bill was anything but a brick oven nice false advertisement.
