The restaurant represents as a tribute to Chicago, and the price is definitely reflect that. We decided to go there yesterday and sit in the outdoor bar area for my husband's birthday. We got there at the tail end of happy hour and we were able to order one drink each at a reduced price. My husband ordered the Thai chicken bowl and I ordered the buffalo cauliflower bowl. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, as were the drinks. The ambience makes you feel like you are at an Oceanside resort. The presentation of the food was a very pleasing aesthetic. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back

Upon arrival we were immediately seated at a high top in the bar area. They had several big screen TVs on playing both sports and news. We came hungry and ordered a good variety of menu items including a few of their seasonal drinks as well as several shared appetizers. My favorite was the chicken eggs rolls. They really stuff them up and there's so much flavor. The dipping sauce is tasty as well. The lobster Rangoon was an accidental order, I asked the waitress how they were and next thing you know they were brought out to the table. I agreed to keep them and did enjoy them. They were a little pricey at $24 but I understand lobster isn't cheap. The bbq chicken pizza was ok but didn't have the bbq sauce flavor I was looking for. Good while hot but nothing I would order again. The side salad was literally just a bowl of lettuce so I wouldn't do that again either. I felt the menu had a lot of good options and choosing what to order was hard. Our server was great and the busser was attentive and helpful as well. I'm excited to have a place like this in the area. The vibey ambience, good service and overall yummy food makes me want to come back again and try more. Tip: they accept inKind which is a plus because I was able to save a little $ on the bill.

We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered.

On my second visit a year later, I decided to give it another shot--this time opting for the traditional version instead of the smoked one. It was better, but still only average at best. It was also served warm, and the ice melted quickly, suggesting the glass or drink wasn't properly chilled. The martini was also underwhelming--it tasted mostly like juice, with little to no noticeable alcohol. As for the food, the starters were definitely the highlight. The French onion soup was actually very good. However, the main courses didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out closer to medium well--overcooked and under-seasoned. The chicken Vesuvio was also disappointing; the sauce tasted like it came from a jar, and neither it nor the rice stood out in any meaningful way. On a positive note, the ambiance was very nice. The lighting created a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, while the setting and service were enjoyable, the food and drinks didn't justify a return visit.

I chose the…read morehighest tier catering package for $16 a person and ordered Chicken fajitas, carnitas, and tamales. The order was supposed to be ready at 11:40 AM and it wasn't ready until closer to 12 PM. When we unpackaged the contents, we realized that there were no tortillas included in the order. There was a small tray of Mexican rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, carnitas and the chicken fajitas. The chips came in a large ziplock bag with 1 quart of salsa. Order came with serving spoons, but did not include 25 plates OR 25 napkins and we were short. When I called the restaurant to inquire about the missing tortillas, I was transferred to a manager who did not believe us that we were shorted the tortillas. She put us on a brief hold and returned to the line to state that the staff packaging the order is "90% certain" they included the tortillas in one of the aluminum trays. She asked us a few times to check the cardboard box. We informed her multiple times that the box is empty and that there are no tortillas in this order. It is very hard to enjoy a fajita bar without tortillas. She then decided to inform us that if we wanted, we can come back to the restaurant to pick up "MORE" Tortillas. I explained again that we do not have ANY tortillas and picking up MORE tortillas at this point in the lunch was not worth it since the order was already late and people had already started eating. The part that bothered me the most is that there was no acknowledgement or apology for the missing item in the order and an unbelieving attitude as if I was lying. I told her that there is no reason for me to lie and say I am missing tortillas. There's no value in me trying to secretly get extra tortillas if there are not even enough proteins to supplement those tortillas. All in all, we paid $500 for this catering order and the amount of food that we received felt like closer to a $200 order. The trays for the rice, beans, and proteins were mini trays and I found it very hard to believe that they expected that to feed 25 people. Additionally 1 quart of salsa is NOT enough for such a large number of people. And if I'm paying for a catering order that is supposed to be 25 people why wouldn't you double check there's enough plates and napkins??? As for the taste of food, my colleagues remarked that the food lacked flavor and tasted very bland. The tamales were very stringy inside and not able to cut through the inside without using a knife. If we had had enough salsa, that may have helped. All in all we will NOT be ordering from El Salto ever again. If you want decent Mexican food for a large crowd, honestly QDOBA is better and cheaper.
