My boyfriend and I were planning to get dressed up and eat at Ciao Bella for Valentine's Day. Our plans changed and we decided to do things casual and go to Giuseppe's instead. I can say with full sincerity it was a decision you couldn't pay me to regret. I'm a picky eater, and when I say 'picky', I mean PICKY. I went in just wanting the thin crust pizza I'd had once before. But, it was Valentine's Day and I was feeling amorous and optimistic so I decided to try nothing but things I'd never had (even anywhere else) when my boyfriend said we should try the Primavera Gourmet Pizza (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and prosciutto). We decided to go all out and also ordered Arancini, an Italian rice ball with cheese and peas in the middle served over homemade (like EVERYTHING there) marinara sauce. Sounds odd at first, I know, but it was absolutely amazing. Following this was the Primavera pizza. I feel it necessary to point out that at first I asked if there was any way we could add pepperoni to the original ingredients (something common at other pizza places), and the man kindly refused saying that it would "sacrifice the flavor of the pizza". I appreciate this kind of authenticity and commitment, so I went along with it and we ordered. Just like the Arancini, it was AMAZING. Light, yet enough so that you feel fulfilled. He was absolutely right, the ingredients flowed together perfectly and I now couldn't even imagine pepperoni sabotaging that delicious pizza. We also decided to try the chocolate gelato (something else I'd never had), and that was amazing as well. I look forward to going back there many times in the future. The restaurant has a clean, welcoming atmosphere with a decor anyone could appreciate. I address anyone looking at this review who is considering trying this place out...you WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!My favorite place just expanded there menu!!They added a few wonderful neapolitan pizzas...melazane & funghi,margherita con bufala mozzarella, & a pasta dish,etc.I had to try both new pizzas...boy did they push it to another level!The first is a grilled marinated eggplant with portobello mushrooms...totally mouth watering!The second was a margherita with imported mozzarella made from buffalo milk!!!Just when I thought there original margherita was off the charts...this bufala mozz margherita is in outerspace!!You can really tell the difference...a much richer taste! I use to travel downtown to get neapolitan pizzas but I haven't since discovering this wonderful new place in town.If I where you I wouldn't waste my time going to any other pizzeria in this area period!Nobody comes close to these pizzas!If you dont want to venture out and try these specialty pizza you can also order Chicago style thin crust which is excellent also.I cannot say enough about this place as far as decor,food,ambiance,cleanliness,etc.The inside of this place has more style and flair than ANY RESTAURANT OR PIZZERIA IN ALL NORTHWEST INDIANA! The pizza is so great. It's the only legit pizza in the region. Sauce (tart and full of flavor not like the thick sugary tomato paste you get at other places), toppings (fresh cut, homemade meatballs, cheese (melty but not greasy). I honestly don't know why anyone would bother getting a pizza from anywhere else in the area. Capri's (basically soda crackers with spaghetti o sauce on it) for example or Dante's in munster (Betty Crocker pizza crust in a bag + tomato paste with sugar in it)... all of the crusts from these places are quick fermented dough... dump water, yeast, and flour in a bowl let it sit for an hour. This why these pizza crusts have no chewiness or flavor whatsoever... not like actual pizza dough that slow ferments overnight, but I guess we're in Indiana where no one has a clue what "real" pizza is. Giuseppe's is legit- coming from someone who lived in places with pizzas made by the descendants of actual Italians. read more

I went to Giuseppe's Pizza in Schererville, Indiana in December 2011 and have been hooked ever since. I tried alot of the things on their menu and so far, I'm very impressed. I'm a big Italian foodie, and not to brag, but I know what real good Italian food tastes like. If you stop in, the first thing you want to try is their pizza. Either the wood fired oven kind or the normal gas oven pizza. The peppeoni pizza is so GOOD! As for the wood fired one, the primavera is the one to go for. The proscuitto is mouth watering. The arancini's are another favorite with one of their salads (preferably the greek one with the feta). Those are just to name my FAVORITES. Oh, and their spinach ravioli is good too.( I can't believe I forgot to mention that first!) The place looks so nice and clean and the service is awesome . So don't sit here reading this!! This place is TERRIFIC!! We discovered it by searching online after watching a show on the Food Network that was featuring Neopolitan pizza. I thought for sure we'd have to drive to Chicago to find something that tasted as good as it looked on TV....NO WAY!! We ordered two different Neopolitan pizzas, and both were devine! The Primavera is my favorite so far. And don't forget to have some gelato for dessert...it was terrific as well. The dining room is very charming. It's small and inviting...perfect for dinner with one or two people. The decor is attractive as well. The gentleman helping us was extremely nice and polite. Giuseppe's is definitely going to be one of our regular eateries. So glad we found this place! We can't wait to go back!!! read more

I gave this a rating of 5 stars because the food is fantastic and the restaurant itself is really nice. Everything I've tried here was delicious and affordable- The Neapolitan pizzas that are cooked in a wood fired oven are amazing.. The appetizers I've tried (Arancini, Mozzarella sticks, Calamari) were all very, very good. Being Italian myself, I really like the fact that this is an Italian restaurant that's owned and actually operated by a family of Italian Americans, which makes for great atmosphere and it's a pretty rare thing around this area. We live in the city and eat the Neapolitan pizza at Spacca Napoli and many other places and this is by far our favorite Neapolitan Pizza "in the area." The arancini is fantastic, one large rice ball filled with peas, meat and cheese. We like the calzone a lot too. Our favorite pizza is the Pizza Primavera with arugula and prosciutto. The restaurant is small and the decor is adorable. Our father is from and lives in Napoli, looking forward to taking him here (extra bonus...many of the family at Giuseppes speak Italian.). read more

Talk about authentic Italian food! The lasagna was the best I have ever had. My kids just devoured the pizza but luckily I got a bite of the italian sausage before they ate it all. They even make the gelato in-house. They were interviewing more wait staff when I was there too so that sound get rid of the others complaints about the service. The perfect meal in my opinion! Giuseppe runs this amazing restaurant, but it is his mother from the old country who is the star. Delia brought these Italian recipes from her native Italy. She's 4-foot-ten w a heavy accent - straight out of central casting. Daughter raves about the chicken parm. Best authentic real homemade Italian food. When I say homemade I mean the owners mother, father, sister everybody shares their excellent recipes and makes the food. Gracious and charming hosts, lending an old world hospitality and atmosphere. The food from appetizers to pizzas to desserts is excellent and prices are reasonable. Had a friend recommend this place. Stopped in for lunch. Family owned business--small--about 20 seats. The portions were huge. The pizza crust was amazing in itself and the marinara dip was tasty. Went on a Sunday evening, there was 2 of us. They were not very crowded , but the dining room is small but nice. I ordered the Sausage & Peppers over Penne Pasta.....very good...My wife ordered a sandwich which was also very good. I'm looking forward to going back. read more
