This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Greenville. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. They even have brought toys to my children to play with during a lunch. Had breakfast here and man oh man, I can't recommend the pancakes and fried chicken enough!! Three fried chicken wings and 2 amazing pancakes. I don't know what kind of pancakes they are but dang they are good. So crunchy on the edges and even the very top layer but fluffy on the inside My husband got eggs,bacon,cinnamon apples and the rocky road biscuit. Came here for a family Sunday dinner and birthday celebration. It took place in their banquet room and was served buffet style. The menu consisted of: fried chicken, fried fish, Mac and cheese, green beans, cabbage, rolls, cornbread, sweet tea, lemonade and red velvet and coconut cakes. This places was packed with the after church crowd even at 2pm. Even still, the food was ready to go as soon as everyone was seated. Everything was hot, fresh and flavorful. I didn't have the green beans, chicken or red velvet. But I did have everything else. Some highlights were the tea and lemonade and the coconut cake. These were exceptional and quite possibly the best I've had. The service was outstanding and never missed a beat. Even with a decently sized party. I will come back whenever the need to calorie splurge hits. Great southern, comfort food. read more

GK Cafe is an amazing Greenville treasure. The breakfast was fabulous and hot. What a nice change from better known places. I'm a picky ( selective ) eater and my food was prepared just as I wanted. Nothing crazy - just, like no onion powder in my hash browns. Derek ( server ) was great and super friendly. I mentioned to him on the way in that it was my mother's 89th birthday. Derek and another server came over, brought her a slice of cake with a candle on it, and sang Happy Birthday to her. Way above and beyond. Thank You. We will be back. I would give them a 0 if I could... The food is good it's not the issue ..my husband has been going for years to get takeout or eat in with family or friends... Oh but the two times I have accompanied him let me tell you the service was beyond bad... First time it took 10-15 minutes to be waited on.. we joked about it being the fact I'm not the same race as him but let it slide because it is what it is ..and happens more then you think.... But Today was horrible it was blunt right up in our face... We sat down only to watch both waiters walk past us multiple times... sit other people.. wait on them... and walk right past us... now we let this go on for 10min before we got up and walked out... the sad thing is .. he knows this is not the normal because he's in there all the time when he's home.. it's a shame that it's 2023 and mess like this still happens!! Not impressed. This is the kind of breakfast one expects for free at the hotel. VERY small menu selection. I had the #3. Eggs were plain scrambled, hash browns were frozen type, bacon was typical variety. The biscuit was nice and fluffy, but just a biscuit. Didn't see any recent reviews here, so maybe managemet has changed. Maybe previous reviews were from friends and family. Either way, I now wish we had gone to Denny's. read more

When I was in town last month for a conference, a group of us stopped by GK Cafe for dinner on a Monday night. I believe there were 14 of us, but they seated us quickly and easily in a back room. GK has a fixed menu. I imagine this makes preparing food fast easier, but they still took quite a while bringing out entrees. On Mondays they offer smothered pork chops, baked spaghetti, and lasagna for entrees and green beans, yams, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, potato salad, and a garden salad for sides. Additionally, you can choose a dinner roll or cornbread. A Regular meal is one entree, two sides, and bread. I chose lasagna, green beans, and yams with a dinner roll. All were very good, but I wasn't blown away by them. I must admit that I was most excited by the cake because of the pictures on the website and I was delighted to find that they did, in fact, have strawberry red velvet cake with cream cheese and pecan frosting in the house. Like many, I grabbed a slice to go. I found mine to be delicious although others were not as impressed with their selections. I might go back to GK again though. It was simple, but good. read more

On my one and only visit to G-Vegas I was told GK had the best "local" breakfast in town. Thank god, for all I could find on my own was a bagel place and an iHop. But then we showed up to find out that GK closes on Saturdays. And that was that. This is my second time going to G & K and receiving the wrong order. I'm trying to figure out why the workers are so incompetent. You only have to do two things when taking someone's order LISTEN and WRITE. Those young boys need to stop going to work high if they can't take an order right. So my son lived in Greenville for 5 years and on the day his Dad and I went down to move him out to get ready for the real world, we decided to eat here for lunch. I can't tell you how upset my son was that he had not been eating here all along. He lived 2 minutes away at Copper Beech! The soul food selection is different each day and slightly limited but we found something we both liked. The food was delicious. (The pasta salad was made with spaghetti noodles - a little strange but still good.) The mac and cheese was just like Grandma's home made and we ordered a side to take home. You could tell the waiter was either new or a young family member or something but he was okay. We had also used them for catering a large graduation party and everything was good and went smoothly. I gave five stars rather than the 4 I had planned on giving to offset a bit the one star review below for being closed which I thought affected their rating too greatly.
