I think this is the only coffee shop in town. Saturday they don't open until 8am and I arrived to a line out the building (open earlier please). Cute coffee shop and I enjoyed my latte (just the right temperature and amount of froth). Also ordered a breakfast burrito. I visited this coffee house while in port today. I'm typically a sipper on my ice coffee but I finished this in like 10 minutes flat! The white pass mocha was a white chocolate raspberry iced coffee and it was phenomenal. Since I'm on a cruise, I only have the awful cruise coffee to try and muster up but this was a refreshing change. It's in a great location too and easily accessible without hopping on a bus located at the first or second street after getting off the ship. We first visited Glacial Coffeehouse on our first cruise to Alaska last summer. We liked it so much that when we took the same cruise this year, we made a point to pop in again. This spot has a nice amount of seating and free, fast wifi. I really enjoyed their selection of whole, bagged coffee beans to take home and enjoy. It makes for a great gift for coffee lovers and a fun souvenir for us alike. I imagine their busy-ness comes in waves, often in alignment with the docked cruise ships, but the staff at Glacial Coffeehouse handled the crowd well and the wait was manageable. While we were walking around Skagway it was a bit cool out so we decided to check this place out for some hot drinks. They offer some tasty coffees, lattes, and mochas here. After the cruise ship coffee over the days on board it was nice to enjoy some drinks with real body and taste. My mocha hit the spot. The first time we came here (before Yelp for me), there were two people broadcasting a radio show inside by the big window. It seemed so perfectly "Alaska" to see this. I was also pretty sure that they had free internet on my second trip, but maybe not. When we find a coffeehouse in a port from a cruise ship, we aren't always looking for free internet, we're actually looking for some decent coffee (because sometimes cruise ship coffee is awful, although Celebrity has decent plain black coffee). Here the coffee was scalding hot, but it had a great taste. This trip in, I found the baristas a little lacking in customer service, maybe just a bad day or tired of the cruise ship customers already (kinda early in the season though). There's a big cupboard with books and board games, so it isn't like the owners don't want their customers to camp out here and enjoy their beverages. Since this is about the only "true" coffeehouse in town, I'll probably be back. read more
