This place was a lot nicer than I thought it was. I mean it was labeled as "BrewHouse" so I thought it was a casual place to eat. Anyways, we got in, got seated right away and I ordered an Amber. IT WAS THE BEST AMBER I'VE EVER HAD. Whenever I think of an Amber (like Mac and Jack's from back home), I will now ALWAYS think of this amber. It was so good! I got the rockfish, and it was alright...but I tried everyone else's dishes and they were all great! We did a tasting roulette where we passed everyone's dish clockwise lol.... If I were to come here again I would get the fettuccine jambalaya or the steak. Both were incredibly delicious and flavorful. read more

Had lunch here today. Not impressed. Ordered the Ahi Salad where I somewhat enjoyed the Ahi even though it lacked that succulent and silky taste but all in all ok but the rest had much to be desired. Way too much arugula and the dressing extremely bland in taste so not much fun to eat. I also am a huge fan of stew and always like to try it when places offer it as their soup special. Ordered a small cup, yuck! Absolutely no flavor whatsoever and had an odd oily taste to it. Asked to have them take it back. I have been here several times when in town working and unfortunately don't think I will try it anymore or recommend to friends. read more

They have decent food and good customer service. I had a small issue with fish I ordered. It had a small bone that I uncomfortably swallowed. I didn't ask for a new dish or anything, but the staff went above and beyond. The server and management took care of the fish and got my something else without hesitation. The overall ambiance is nice and there is plenty of tables for everyone. The service was good and the waitress was pleasant and prompt. The food was good but not great. The chowder was good but Luke warm. The fish special would have been a little better without so much sauce and was also luke warm rather than hot. The donut dessert was phenomenal and was hot. A good place to go for dinner and overall was delicious. Parking is a bit tough as need to set up account to pay for parking and that was a pain to do when -11 out and you just want to get in and enjoy your evening. read more

Well this was one of my favorite spots but after tonight I will say I will think about coming back...they have a new chef and he is very disappointing my steak was undercooked and management didn't do anything but offer a dessert after sending it back plus they gave me someone else's food. We've been here for two months and find Glacier Brewhouse to be the rest restaurant so far. We've tried Moose's Tooth because everyone says how amazing it is, but it was only mediocre to us and wonder why no one has told us about Glacier Brewhouse or wonder why no one we've talked to eats here... We ordered the crab cakes appetizer; it only came with three little cakes, but they were beyond delicious. A little overdone maybe because the crust was a little too dark, not quite burnt, but borderline burnt. My husband ordered the Salmon Grill and he absolutely loved it. For his size though, the portion was too small and he was still hungry. I ordered the flat iron steak and it was cooked to my liking. Everything was so flavorful and for me it was a good portion size. We ordered two desserts--apple crumble cheesecake and peanut butter pie. I can't even begin to describe how decadent these desserts were. I would order a whole cheesecake and pie if I could. The cheesecake in particular was THE BEST. I told my husband we are going back for my birthday just so I can have that cheesecake and to try something new next time. Our server, Ashley B, was very knowledgeable of the menu and specials, and she was very friendly and checked up on us regularly, but not too much so we could enjoy our date night. The other staff came to clear our table immediately when our dishes were cleaned off so we didn't have piles of dirty dishes on our tiny table for two. The only issue I did have was waiting over the time we were initially told. We were on a time restraint, having our toddler in daycare for only 4 hours and I was nervous that we wouldn't be back to pick her up in time since we waited over an hour and I was unsure how long it would take to get our food once we ordered. However, our food came out faster than I expected. All of the staff we encountered were friendly. We had a wonderful dining experience here and I plan to return time and time again. read more

I love going here to get a pint at the bar. The only issue with this place is that it is SO BUSY. This is not their fault of course, but it would be nice to dine without having to yell at the person next to you. I really enjoy their reindeer sausage pizza and blue cheese salad, perfect for a light dinner and not too hard on the wallet. I always save room for dessert, their flour-less chocolate cake is to die for! I recommend going during the off dining hours just so you can grab a seat and have your waiters' full attention. All of the entrees appeared to be good, but I think anyone who isn't from AK should eat the salmon or halibut depending upon the seasonal catch. If I ordered a steak here, I'd kick my own ass. Monday night my friends and I thought we would walk over from the Hilton to the Glacier Brewhouse for dinner. We got there to a packed house with standing room only. Who would have thought that a brewhouse would be so packed on a Monday. They lady at the counter told is we could wait 1 hour for a table or try to find one by the bar (open seating). We decided to go next door to Orso. But we made a reservation for Tuesday night on our way out. Tuesday lunch time....we decided to check the crowd. They sat us immediately and we got our food quick. The seafood chowder was fantastic and the salmon blt was amazing. My friends had the pulled pork sandwich and the blue cheese salad. Then we shared the peanutbutter pie (oh my!) I went there with my boyfriend and a close friend and it was so much fun! I had such a great time and the food was excellent. My friend really wanted to see the waiters as most of them look like models but outside of that, the food was excellent. The wine and beer selection is good as well. We all ended up having two drinks each. Definitely will be going back for some more seared tuna! read more

I'm really struggling with my rating because I want to rate this place higher but just can't. I came in wanting fish and chips but the crab legs caught my eye and I decided I couldn't leave Alaska without them. I didn't realize how sharp the spines were on the legs. The pliers only bent the legs and separated the knuckles. Portions had been slit for easier access to the meat but not to the ends and some portions weren't slit. Without the slits, I had to fight through the sharp spines to get at the meat. I substituted roasted broccoli which had zero seasoning. A little salt goes a long way in making tasty food! The "World Famous Bread Pudding" was tasty. I'm just not sure about world famous. I really did have a good dinner. But maybe I just expected more for the $. The things that would have made mine better were free!! read more

Horrible experience. Our waitress was rude / cold and acted like she didn't want to be there. We sat and waited to order / receive our food for abnormally long times. The French onion soup was disgusting. Heavily over seasoned- just nasty. I tried some of the seared tuna someone at my table ordered and the flavor was also disgusting. The service was great even though they were extremely busy. We ordered the ale fondue with pretzels as a starter. It was good. Also had the fettuccine jambalaya which was a decent sized portion, a little spicy, and also good. Had to send back the brewhouse blue salad. It was made with iceberg lettuce instead of mixed greens, maybe six grapes cut in half, no caramelized pecans, and one chunk of blue cheese about the size of a teaspoon. Really no excuse for such a poorly made salad. Overall an ok meal, however the prices are on the higher end and with so many great restaurants in Anchorage, probably will not visit again. read more

Glacier Brewhouse was another restaurant we've had on our radar, and we were excited to add it to our list of places to try during the Iditarod/Fur Rondy. We were thankful that we had made reservations ahead of time, because the average wait was about an hour and a half at around 6 p.m. We started off with the calamari, which was outstanding, and my wife got a blackberry basil lemonade which was perfectly balanced and very refreshing. For our entrees we got the All In Fish and Chips, and the Crab Stuffed Cod over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes; both were very delicious, but the bowl of seafood chowder that came with the fish and chips was just okay. The service was adequate, but to their credit, it was a very packed restaurant. We also enjoyed the decor and had a nice table right by the cozy fireplace. This would be a great place to take anyone visiting from out of town, or for locals on special occasions. read more

Glacier Brewhouse is a well executed brew pub. First requirement--excellent beer, fresh and well kept. They pass that hurdle easily. The food is above average. I had some fresh Copper River salmon that was great, the mango salsa and flavors were nice but when you start with a great piece of salmon, it's hard to go wrong! Very fresh and crisp salad, too. A little pricey for what you get but hey, this is Alaska, it happens. The dining and bar area are nice looking but they really crowd the tables together--they work hard to maximize seating so you are going to be right on top of your neighbors, and it is loud too. Also, in the bar area, it is hard to just hang out with a beer--if you don't have a seat, you are going to be in the servers' way and they are going to be running you over, moving you around, generally you are bugging them. So this really is not a 'bar'--at least during the busy summer season on a weekend. It's kind of crazy. I'm not sure on a Friday night in June how many locals are there. Some, I'm sure, but also a lot of tourists and cruise ship people. Nothing wrong with that but I wonder what the crowd looks like on a Wednesday night in October--probably different and maybe even more fun. read more

1st time at the GB and I sat at the bar, Lizzy was awesome, Erick did a great job. The chowder was delicious and tasted fresh. I ordered the flat iron steak it came out as ordered in about twenty minutes then blue cheese garlic potatoes were great. The brewhouse amber is a equal to new castle very tasty amber. They will also let you taste drinks. My only complaint was when they brought out the bread it was a wheat loaf bread and pepper with olive oil. read more

What a find!!! Great selection of quality food and home brews at very reasonable prices. Very attentive and friendly service. Chris, our server, was very accommodating in preparing a plate of salad & half an order of Halibut @ $10.95 for my wife. I enjoyed the regular sized local Rock fish (similar to grouper) @ $16.95, which were both fresh and delicious, and nice presented (see attached photos). This was definitely one of the better choice of restaurants we went to, and I would definitely return!! read more

On the "Alaska scale" , GB is most definitely a 5 out of 5. If you are in town for a short time, GB is a must-stop on the tour of Anchorage restaurants. Lots of people here -- expect a fairly loud noise level -- good place to go with a bunch of friends. It gets VERY crowded here, so call ahead for a reservation if possible, or troll around the first-come-first serve bar seating area and snag a still warm seat if you can. Good food, great service, a really fun place to get a good meal and try some of their home-brewed beer. (FYI : A growler of home brew will set you back a whopping $5 on Tuesdays -- a big discount off the regular price.) My favorite dishes include the BBQ salmon (not cheap....~ $27 -- yes...welcome to AK)....the seafood chowder, washed down with the in-house brewed Hefeweizen (hints of banana).... Most everything on the menu is great -- much of the meats are cooked over an open fire. All in all, not a super cheap place to dine, but GB is a must if you are visiting Anchorage or are in town for business. read more

Make reservations or you'll be waiting for an hour! I loved the atmosphere. They have an open kitchen but not nearly as noisy as say Levelle's in Fairbanks. All of the plates are great ideas but the execution is just a little lacking. They need a good expediter. - Simply the Best Calamari: was good but came out after dinner- they took it off our bill - Halibut Special of the day: delicious and very filling, I left a couple bites on my plate - Steak with crab/lobster meat on top: rich and good but steak was overcooked - Bering Sea King Crab Legs: disappointing. Overcooked/dry, sent it back to the kitchen. They brought out a new order which was better but still kinda dry and nothing like Levelle's in Fairbanks. I have mixed feelings about this place. it's a 3.5 to 4 stars depending on what you order. I was glad to have several shops in the same building to peak into after dinner. There's the kitchen store, shoe store and art gallery. They have some nice stuff tucked away here and you'll probably want to walk off your meal anyways. read more

Yum yum yum! Great place to go with a bunch of friends or co workers. I am giving 4 star because the prices are a tad high. I went on a Friday night and there are 2 waves of crowds of people one at 530 and another around 7. The 3 people that I was with all had the soup and special and nothing was remaining when they were done!! I had the chili lime shrimp salad. Delish but wish it had a tad more salad dressing. Remember to get some on the side. The guys also said the blonde ale tasted like a miller lite but the amber was the way to go along with the hiefweisen(sp). Enjoy your self read more

This was the first spot we stopped at after getting off the plane from Pittsburgh, PA... And I'm glad we did. The fried calamari app was fantastic as was my steak sandwich. This is another insanely packed place in Anchorage. I came at like 6 pm on a Tuesday, and there were zero seats left at the bar. I tried their raspberry wheat in the meantime, and thought it was pretty good. For my meal, I had the pesto/herb crusted halibut for $35. Wasn't expecting to pay that for bar food, but wow, was it good. It came with garlic mashed potatoes and some greens with a tasty dressing. It was so good I ate the entire thing in one sitting. This is a good place for food and drinks, but come early. read more

We and another couple (independently) chose the Glacier Brewhouse for dinner in Anchorage one evening based on reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere. It was within an easy walk of our hotel, and we arrived at around 8:30 without reservations. The Glacier was buzzing. Rather than wait for a table, we went to the bar, found an empty four-top there and decided to eat in the bar. Three of the four of us started with the seafood chowder, which was terrific, and most of our other fish choices were good. However, Anchorage happened to be suffering from an unusual August heat wave, and with the heat from the open brick oven near the bar the restaurant was uncomfortably HOT -- air-conditioning is rare in Alaska -- so eating seafood at 90 degrees made it a little less enjoyable. We did cool down with craft beers (our table overlooked the brewing vats) and enjoyed the rest of our meal. If we hadn't sweated so much, I'd give this very popular spot five stars. read more

Looks can be deceiving. From the outside, Glacier Brewhouse doesn't seem like much, but once inside, this restaurant is large and full of activity. If you want to eat at a specific time, I would seriously recommend making a reservation, as this place was extremely busy. They used Open Table at the time of my visit. I loved the fact that they had a separate gluten free menu that had more options than I initial expected from a brewhouse. The fresh seafood is definitively worth the price, especially if you happen to be from the lower 48. The service was pretty reasonable for how crowed and hectic the night was. The server did a good job on handling my order and they did a good job in making sure there was as little cross contamination as possible. I am thankful to say that I had no reactions as a result of eating at the Brewhouse and would dine again when I find myself back in Anchorage. read more
