It's high on the tourist list, including Trip Advisor, so I was a bit hesitant as a LA foodie. I didn't mind it but I wasn't thrilled by it either. + Seafood Chowder - The best thing I had was the Alaskan seafood chowder, which I definitely suggest trying. It's like a clam chowder - hearty, chunky, warm. It hugged my stomach and left me completely satisfied. Definitely get the larger portion of this! + Beer battered cod app (lunch & dinner, latter did not have fish & chips) - well fried. Not too oily. It's pretty good except its a bit bland for me and I generally don't see the appeal of this dish. - Crab cakes - It was saucy and runny. I don't really need a crap ton of mayo mixed into my crab cake to appreciate it. - Grilled Salmon main with veggies & garlic mash - The veggies were delicious! The salmon was beautiful and oh so tender. Personally, I felt it was over-charred and smoked. I couldn't even taste the salmon flavor so this dish is a no for me. I'm caught between a 2 or 3 star rating. I've noticed a down turn in quality of food and beer since I used to frequent this joint a lot more in the past. One thing I noticed right away was the missing thai pizza that I loved! I guess they must have redone the menu... I came in with a friend to eat and get $5 growlers as it was Tuesday. We both did the sampler with a few switch ups so we got 10 different beers to try. We found all of them lackluster and decided to hit up beartooth after to get the growlers filled up. We ordered the crab artichoke dip to start and it was so greasy, I couldn't eat more than one toast point. I ordered the chili lime shrimp salad and really liked the shrimp and grilled pineapple, but found the rest of the salald blah. My friend ordered the roasted chicken and said it was okay. Service was wierd. It took forever to get started and then when it did the chick would lean in all close with her eyes bugging out like she was super into staring into my soul. When she would leave me and my buddy just looked at each other smiling. She was nice enough, just not really well versed in the art of serving a busy place. The two stars are due to the service, which was spot on. Not so much the food. My pizza looked like it was the fruit of inbreeding...have never seeing such a mishappened looking pie; I dont know how it was allowed to leave the kitchen. The pizza bread tasted good however it was supposed to be double sausage but you could hardly find any, the cheese was missing from most of the pie, and the onions that were on it were not even sliced, they were partially sliced clumps. It was supposed to have mushrooms but those were hard to find too. My friend ordered one of the special fish dishes of the evening but sent it back because it was too salty. The second serving was not much better. Great bread pudding though. Maybe we needed to have a few beers before tasting the food. read more

They are good sized chunks, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Very tasty. Come on a Tuesday and watch the locals line up to swap their Growlers. $5 deposit and $5 for 64oz of a plethora of beer choices in a returnable glass jugs. Yep! You heard that right! People bringing arm fulls and box fulls of glass jugs to swap for filled ones. All for......$5......each. GENIUS! So we came here as out of towners to try the crab legs. Let's get it on, right! Well, they weren't bad, but they weren't calamari caliber. Moving along I am presented with a quandary in regards to the dessert choices. Who am I kidding? Peanut butter pie it is! Incredibly rich and delicious. They have a mastery of this combination. Never had anything like it before and I was put into a food coma almost immediately. Very crowded when we got there and couldn't get a table at all. But we got lucky with two seats at the bar. Craft beers were ok with lots to choose from. We've been here twice in 2 days and That's says a lot. 1st night we grabbed dinner. We had the following: salmon which was really good and cooked perfectly with potatoes and spinach, jambalaya fettuccine which wasn't bad either and the pesto (walnut based) grilled veggie fusilli was tasty but had a little too much oil for my taste. We ordered IPA, Imperial Blonde, Amber the 1st night and all of them were delicious. Our waiter was super nice and the ambiance is of an upscale brewery. The reason for the 2nd trip was just for the beer only since we were still so full from our lunch. $5 Growler on Tuesday!!! Can't beat that. So we order the IPA because it's not a normal IPA where you can taste the bitter hops. It's hoppy without the bitterness (double dry hopped). Yum! The Imperial Blonde was a nice beer as well. It's on the sweeter side because they add honey to get the high alcohol content (9%). The Amber was more tasty/flavor than other Ambers we've tasted in Alaska (it's not a lot but we've tried a few). read more

One of my favorite restaurants to go to! The food is delicious and the menu is at least partially seasonal and therefore always CHANGING! I love it and hate it at the same time. It means that once I find a favorite it may not necessarily be there next time but I am always looking forward to finding a new favorite created dish. Selection of beers aren't really anything too amazing but enough to allow someone to try something new. Atmosphere is also awesome, in my opinion, I really love the rustic look and the fireplace is really neat! I always suggest the Brewhouse to anyone I have that visits from the Lower 48. Attire can be both dressy and casual depending on the time of year and time of day that you choose to go. read more

Spicy and cheesy. They give you just enough. Not to little. Not to much. Juuuuust right. The reindeer sausage pizza has a diverse set of flavors. You have the sausage and pizza flavors, which are typical, yet delicious. But they add a spicy cream sauce to the top. Highly recommend this meal However, the rest of the menu is lacking. I've tried beef and fish here and have been disappointed each time. If you order fish be prepared for all your food (veggies and such) to all that like fish. They cook everything on the same grill. This was another of those "gotta eat here" places. I am struggling on this review as well. We were seated quickly with reservations. From there, service was a mess. We sat far from the bar, and our disorganized waiter had to make many long trips with only one beer or an appetizer. Sometimes he would check on us within 45 seconds of the last visit, other times, it was nearly 15 minutes. We have been enjoying the beers in Anchorage so assumed this brewhouse would also provide great beer. Alas, my wife and I both found the different beers we ordered overly sweet and malty. It seems the brewer here should consider sampling some of the top-notch brews from neighboring 49th State or Moose Tooth. We weren't very hungry, so split an appetizer of smoked salmon spread and an order of the Bering Sea crab legs. The salmon was good, but was just basically chunks of smoked salmon with a thin smear of a mayo-like sauce on top. The crab legs were very good. Feel free to discount my review as we didn't have a full meal, and my complaints are mainly about the spotty service and the sweet beers neither of us really find refreshing. read more

Why is this place so popular?? Came here last night with reservations. We were 5 minutes early, but ended seated 15 minutes late. The host staff were too busy chatting at the desk to notice our buzzer didn't work and didn't bother calling our name. They said the batteries were dead--hard to believe with the steady green light. No apologies offered. Sat down with about 50 minutes to get out the door to Grease. Server was friendly, but took too long. He finally hurried when we said we needed to leave soon. Meh. Food? Subpar. Blue cheese salad was made with cabbage, dressed with blue cheese, and topped with blue cheese--too much. Jambalaya fettuccine was so spicy that it was inedible. Tuna had been frozen, then thawed, and given a tiny sear. Kids' burgers were decent, but $16 each. Mixed drinks were good. Ambiance was crowded and loud. Nothing significant or special. The bill was $200 with tip. Worth it? Absolutely not, but the multitude of others there seemed to believe it. SMH. We will not be back. read more

One of my favorite restaurants! While the beers are good, the reason to go is the food and atmosphere. I love the smell of the alderwood smoke as you walk in. There's always a lively crowd and usually a wait. I've tried a few different dishes over the years, but now always come back to the BBQ salmon, which I could eat everyday, it's that good. I especially enjoyed the dill pickle flavored tarter sauce. It was a nice addition. The serving size was pretty large and I had enough fish to take with me and eat later. Fries never seem to keep well, but I went ahead and took them to-go, anyhow. The only thing that I don't like is that your hair and your coat smell like fireplace/food when you leave. Probably the best food we had while in Alaska. We came in for lunch this afternoon and the place was pretty busy. We got sat immediately and our server was friendly and attentive. I had the halibut sandwich with fries and a house brewed cream soda. The panko breaded fried fish was crunchy and well-seasoned and the fries were crisp and hot. The cream soda was tasty and the apple bread pudding we shared for dessert was divine. The prices were reasonable and the decor was warm and quaint. Glad we checked this place out! read more

Our group selected this restaurant because they were able to accommodate 25 people with a reservation. We had lunch after watching the Iditrod Race start. Centrally located in downtown Anchorage. This restaurant may just be the most popular restaurant in all of downtown Anchorage. Due to this, definitely plan accordingly. I recommend trying to reserve a table well in advance or taking advantage of their open seating bar area. My husband and I ordered a round of beers at their walk-in high tables and were able to snag a seat before we finished our glasses. You have to be proactive though, or you'll miss your shot. We were very impressed with the beer and the appetizers, but less impressed with the main courses. Perhaps we ordered poorly? Or perhaps this place is getting more buzz than it's worth? I ordered the Hunters Skillet....I recommend the restaurant rename it the Little Hunters Skillet....crushed it in 30 seconds and was hoping my 8 year old was not going to finish his waffle so I didn't have to stop for another breakfast on the way home. My first week in Alaska with my classmates and we decided to go downtown to try a true Alaskan meal. We decided on this place since everyone seemed to say this was a great place for some seafood. I would definitely make some reservations since this place seems to be regularly busy. I made my reservations a couple hours ahead and we were seated immediately when we arrived. Our seats were prime spots by the fireplace which kept us nice and toasty. Our server, Ryan, immediately got us some waters and bread. He made a great point of not only telling us the special, but also the price. Can't tell you how many times that it's not mentioned at all. As tempting as the special (ahi tuna) was, I really wanted that famed Alaskan salmon. So glad that I did! It was the brightest salmon I have ever seen. You can tell it was cooked fresh and to perfection. My salmon was served with balsamic cherry tomatoes, grilled asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was absolutely delicious that the plate was left clean. I also tried a bite of my friend's flat iron steak with the root beer sauce as well. It was quite heavy on the spices, but has a nice sweet flavor to it. Speaking of root beer, the place makes their own and you can definitely taste the difference. I also ordered the Raspberry Fraizon with my meal and enjoyed the fruity notes to my beer. The only reason why this place doesn't get the full 5 stars is that I found 2 bones in my salmon. Luckily, I didn't end up choking on it. Other than that, all of us enjoyed our time here and passed out as soon as we got home from being so full. read more

Good food and decent beer. I tried their regular and cask conditioned IPAs and both were tasty and flavorful. For my meal I had the halibut and it was delicious. A nice thick halibut steak with a good crust and it came with crispy onion strings, mashed potatoes, and spring green mix with balsamic vinagrette. Their bread (served with olive oil) is just ok, so don't fill up on it unless you're starving. The waiting time for a table on Sunday around 5:30 was an hour and a half, which is both crazy and a testament to the popularity of this place. I opted to sit at the bar, where you just grab a seat when one opens up, and I only had to wait about 10 minutes. Overall, a good dining experience. It's noisy in there (for obvious reasons). The service can be rushed and/or slow, when it's busy, but not bad. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful, with exposed wood beams and a huge stone fireplace. The location is downtown, but fortunately not touristy, in spite of its proximity to downtown. read more

I have been to Glacier Brewhouse several times; though it is a casual place, the hardwood décor and the lighting make it feel intimate and my friends and I tend to go to celebrate 'occasions' (the last time for a birthday, before that to celebrate a promotion). For that, it is perfect, as there is always good beer to try. I usually stick to the seasonals, as while their house beers aren't bad, with so many microbrews available in Alaska, these are just average. They have interesting and usually well-done seasonal/rotational taps, though. The Imperial Blonde is my favorite, and the last time I went they had a Rye Porter that was pretty fantastic. The food has always been good, and the waitstaff efficient. The one time our table waited a long time (30 min) for an appetizer, our server (Tyler, who was awesome) had it taken off the bill without us asking, which was a thoughtful gesture. It is usually busy, and I've always had a reservation, even for 2 people, but if you could find a spot at the bar or the open-seating lounge tables, it would be a good place for beer and appetizers after work. For me, though, it is still a rather 'special' place, where I go to have a nice, sit-down dinner, and enjoy the evening. read more

We spent few days in Anchorage for vacation, so we looked up on yelp where to go. Then this place came up on the first pace with very good reviews... we gave them a shot. It was packed when we got there. After we sat down, we ordered bacon&cheese nachoes, clam chowder and calamari. I loved calamari the most, it tasted better than elsewhere...crispy on the outside and the squid still soft and flavorful, served with an tasty tartar sauce. Their Entree' were served pretty and neat with good decoration..except the crab legs came simple with just crab legs butter and asparagus. We got sockeye salmon and cod.. they both were great but not as memorable as the crab legs in my opinion.
