We were impressed with the efficiency and quality of our tours on Many Glacier and Two Medicine. The staff, mostly college-age, were friendly and helpful. The boat captains did a nice job of providing information and answering questions. We really loved the wooden boats, they date back up to 100 years an give everyone a good view of the surroundings. This week we did 3 different boat rides in the US/glacier (also we did one in Canada/Glacier which was with a different company). First off, I am grateful that they allow/encourage you to reserve your spots on line well ahead of time. The price per person is amazingly low in the US (The Canada tour costs 2-3X as much). Also, In canada they don't take on-line resos and it caused me stress to get to the ticket window in person in time the day before my desired trip the next day. The US Glacier system works very well if you read the info closely--all 3 trips we did followed the exact same process. First off, if you have a reso for the boat, you automatically have a reso to drive into Glacier on the appropriate road to get there--just print out/or screen shot the reservation form and present it when entering. Secondly you need to show up to the ticket window 30 minutes ahead of time to state your name/show an ID and get your tickets. Boat entry with your ticket starts 15 min before departure. If you don't show, they will start to let in the waitlist. Simple and consistent and clearly stated on the reservation form. Each of our tours was captained by wonderful employees/professional swho obviously loved their jobs and possessed a wealth of knowledge about the area, geology, wildlife, etc. 1. Swiftcurrent/Josefine Lake at Many Glacier--excellent--we've done it twice--different hikes each time---several options including ranger led. A bit challenging to get back due to crowds. 2. st Mary Lake--with a short stop at nearby Baring falls--very nice 3. two medicine lake with a ranger led hike to twin falls---it was too crowded on the ranger led hike so we took off on our own and asked the ranger our questions later. again a challenge to get back at the end of the day read more

We cancelled because of the fires and so this is only based on customer service. I called once with a question and was provided a curt, rude, response. I didn't feel that the response was clear, so I had follow up questions, which the customer service person did not appreciate. I called to cancel because of the nearby forest fires and the person I spoke with was a different individual, but equally rude. She was snide about my reason for canceling and attempted to lecture me on their proximity to Banff and Jasper. It was not wanted, appreciated or necessary. She was also very rude when I asked why they have a cancellation fee. Just not pleasant to deal with. When we reschedule our trip, we will not be using this company. I assume that they behave this way because they have a monopoly in the park and can, but that is no excuse for being disrespectful. read more

My family is on a cross country RV trip this summer. The stops have (or will) include numerous national and state parks including Carlsbad Caverns, Zion, Arches, Canyonland, Dead Horse, Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier... My wife spent endless hours arranging and scheduling every detail of this trip. Unfortunately, even this late in the year, "Going to the Sun Road" is closed. We can't reach the boat tour. And we can't even get a partial refund cancelling 2 days out because unlike many other companies, they have a 3 day cancellation notice. And you can't get anyone on the phone. They send you to their website. In an area that has spotty service at best. And FYI - not all of their locations include the 1 day admission to the "Road" You can find out if you have the admission included if you are one of the few that read the fine print after making your purchase. You can also forget same day reservations. By refusing a refund and pocketing the payment, it behooves them get paid for the empty seat. Severely disappointed. read more

Wonder why they don't do same day reservations? Because they don't have to. They know they are going to get paid for empty seats, because of their poor cancelation policy and unclear advertising about admission to "Going to the sun road" being included in their reservations. 1st, You have to cancel 3 days in advance, or you get NO MONEY back. Not a cancelation fee, or a portion, they keep all of your money and get paid for an empty seat. See why they aren't worried about making same day reservations for boats that clearly have empty seats? They are worse than the airlines! 2nd, Not all of their locations included 1 day admission to the "Going to the sun road." But... it's not like they include that warning, in Big Bold Red letters at the top of the description of the tour... They include it in small print in the confirmation email AFTER you have bought your tickets. Because sneaky companies know that no-one reads the fine print. And yet they are still listed as a company that is within the park that you can make reservations with so as to gain a day pass to the "Going to the sun road." Important caveats such as NOT ALL TOURS WILL COUNT TOWARDS GOING TO THE SUN ROAD ADMISSION, should be clearly advertised on all pages. It is misleading advertising, and most people CLEARLY think that any reservation with this company will gain your day access to "Going to the Sun Road." 3rd, Going to the Sun road is still closed right now. Very late in the season, as it is usually open by 4th of July. We literally can't get to the boat tour location right now, as we are staying in West Glacier, without driving the ridiculous 3 hour round about alternative road to get there. 4th, They know that internet and cell service is spotty in surrounding areas, yet still try to direct cancellations to the website, not even bothering to answer their phones. 5th, other companies, such as Swan Mountain Outfitters and Glacier Raft Company, just to name a few, have 48 hour, not 3 day, cancelation policies. I called 2 days in advance to cancel my tour, because I literally had no service and because the going to the sun road was still closed, and they would not give me even a portion of my money back. These people are taking advantage of tourists. They are low lives. read more

Amazing tour on St Mary Lake!! This was our second year visiting the park and touring with Glacier Park boat company. Highly recommend these boat tours (in all of the lakes) - it is such a beautiful and relaxing way to see more of this breathtaking park, to learn about the history of the park etc.. Saw a moose walking out of the water- incredible! Our Captain, Jacob, was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to visit again :)!! read more

The boat rides themselves are great, however the employees manning the ticket stations as well as the abusive company policy around reselling tickets on waitlist makes this a terrible experience. My reserved tickets were sold to someone else despite the fact that my wife was at the counter 10 mins prior to departure. The party that out tickets were sold to were not even at the counter. The young employees at the ticket counter have a very bad attitude. The person I was unfortunate enough to encounter basically stole my tickets, sold it on to someone not even present at the docks, and then lied to me about it and wasted my time leading me on about maybe letting me board etc, but essentially bought time for the other party to run behind my back to the boat. Very shady practices, rude employees who treat customers badly, and abusive company policies that focus on reselling tickets to make more money at expense of reserved customers whose tickets are forcibly resold with flimsy excuses. I tried to contact customer care to address the employee behaviors as well as to get a refund for my tickets. No luck with that as well, the customer service reps have a very dismissive attitude. I was told that a manager will get back to me on my compliant, but that never happened. read more

We made reservations the day before we were going to take the ride and there was no mention of construction on the road to get to the lake. They mentioned to be early to find a parking spot. We left an hour early and we were stopped for an hour in construction delays with other people with boat reservations. When we got to the lake the boat was just pulling out. The person at the ticket counter just said there was nothing she could do and to call the company. She also said the fine print on the email mentioned possible construction delays. The boat looked full so I believe they sold our seats again. I have called and left messages three times and sent an email with no response. There was also several other customers who missed the boat because of construction. It should be a standard practice when there is major road construction that the warm customers of the delays. I would like a refund so our memories of this beautiful area is not diminished because of this experience. read more

The boat ride was fun and the guide was kind and informative. The one star is for the terrible service. We talked to 3 different ticket agents and each one gave a different answer. We ended up waiting in line for an hour and fifteen minutes to try to change our tickets from one way back to one way there. Not one person told us that they don't sell one way there tickets, so we wasted all of our time there. We waited on the side in the waitlist for a boat and asked a manager at one point if she had any idea if we would get on. She just said "I couldn't tell you" and walked away. Terrible customer service. I would never book tickets again. Not to mention that they double sell the tickets for people who don't show up. read more

We took the boat ride at Two Medicine. The boat ride itself is pretty. We had a slightly over energetic young guide but I still appreciated his effort and for trying his best to engage the group with corny jokes and tidbits of info. Once we got off the boat, he took us on a guided hike of about 2 miles that took about 2 hours given the extremely slow pace at which we walked and stopped. If we were to do this again we would definitely walk separately so we could hike at our own pace. The views were beautiful, with the bear grass and mountains carved by glaciers (arêtes and horns). At the very end is a beautiful waterfall. And then you take the walk back on your own. The complaint we had was that the logistics of the boat ride were really inconvenient. We got back to the dock from our hike for the 515 pm return boat. But when the boat came, there were several people on the boat that were doing the round trip boat ride without getting off, so only 12 of the 64 people who had gathered for the boat were able to get on. The rest waited another 30 mins for the boat to go drop off the first load and come back. At that point, we realized there were 52 of us and room for only 49. Luckily those who had taken the boat round trip got priority over the ones who were buying one way trips (probably because they had hiked out). So there were still more people who needed to wait even longer for the boat to return. The boat company should have: - the ability to reserve your return trip so you know which boat you are getting on- and those with reservations get priority - numbered tickets or a clipboard even where you can write your names so you know whether there's a chance you can get on, and everyone isn't jockeying the whole time for position on the dock (this was really annoying) - not let there be round trip boat only passengers on the last boat of the day, or if there are passengers interested in just taking The boat around the lake then they should have to get off at the dock and be put into the queue again just like everyone who's been waiting on the dock for the past 30-60 mins. Next time, I would prefer to rent kayaks instead of taking the boat so we would have better control over our timing. The kayak ride is only 45 mins or less each way. Otherwise, you can also hike the 3.5 miles each way (which we would have done if we had known ahead of time that we couldn't get on the first boat back). read more

Nathan was our awesome tour guide at Two Medicine Lake on Aug 13th. We highly recommend him. He's the BEST! He was fun, informative, great to hike and hang out with - we just loved being with him and checking out Twin Falls. We snacked on some wild Huckleberries found along the way, enjoyed being in GNP so much - the beauty and history require several days to do any justice. Just sorry our visit to the park was abbreviated overall due to wildfires. So sorry... We are fixin to return in Spring. Big hugs to Nathan! read more

Boat was fine - nicely maintained. Boat speed was slow and steady. Great views. My main problem was that the park ranger spoke on the loudspeaker the entire time. Most of the information was pretty basic - "See those dead trees? What do you think could have caused that? A fire? You are right!! There was a fire, a big one." I would have appreciated about a 10 or 15 minute lecture on the loudspeaker and then a question and answer session that wasn't broadcast over the entire boat. read more

The Glacier Park Boat Company ride at St. Mary last Wednesday was perfect. Our captain, Sara, was skilled, informative, welcoming and attentive. She knows the history of the park, the environmental factors that the park is facing and is well versed in the history of this 4th generation boat company. She was quick to react when a passenger's hat flew off and into the lake by leading the crew to find and catch the hat while she circled around to fetch it. We stopped and hiked in to see Bering Falls. On the way to the falls was a tame mule deer who was more interested in eating than in the people on the path. The owners of the company, Barb & Scott, work hard to make sure that everyone's experience with Glacier Park Boat Company is a relaxing, positive, informative one. Make sure you make time to see the park via boat while you are at Glacier National Park. You will see sights you cannot see any other way. read more

Made reservations online with no trouble and even though my parents had to back out the day of the tour and I was aware that I was too late for a refund, I was able to sell my tickets to a couple on the wait list at the site. Took the Many Glacier tour of two lakes and a guided hike to Grinnell Lake - our guide, Ben, was great - knowledgeable and funny - a natural! This was a great way to see more of the park and receive more education / information at the same time. Will definitely be recommending to friends who are going to Glacier. PS - Parking is a pain - get there in plenty of time. And try the Huckleberry Margarita at the bar in the Many Glacier Hotel if you have time to kill! read more

Things have definitely changed with this company since they were reviewed by Ani in 2013. We just got back from Glacier NP last week. My wife had tried to make a reservation for us multiple times over their website over a month in advance of our trip, and all she ever got was a form on their site saying that they would call us, which they never did. We called before the trip and they said that we couldn't book or pay over the phone. When we got to the park, Going to the Sun highway was closed due to the fires this summer. That meant committing to a 2+ hour drive around the south of the park from where we were staying on the west side in order to see Many Glacier. Naturally we wanted to somehow confirm that there would be availability for us on the boat if we did that, but they again were super unhelpful over the phone, wouldn't let us book or pay in advance, and couldn't promise us there would be tickets available if we went. We went anyway, and happened to get on the waitlist and were the second to last couple to make it onto the boat. Once on, we were really impressed with the ride and the staff, the gal who lead the hike was SUPER knowledgeable and friendly - we'd definitely do this again. But it wasn't worth the stress we had to go through just to make it onto the boat. Staff could be a lot more helpful and professional in this regard. read more

We did a walkup ticket booking for many glacier boat ride. They just gave us the credit card customer receipt with no date of your. We were a group of 12 and we are totally sure it was for the next day. When we went to board the next day they said it was for 3 days later. It was impossible because you can only book walkup tickets 3 days in advance and we had booked it the previous day. There was a tall young guy who gave us weird, sarcastic looks and said there is nothing he can do. We were not even in glacier on the date he said we booked for. He charged a cancellation fee for each of the 12 tickets and cancelled the tickets. This was the most sour experience during our trip. The guy was openly racist - we were a bunch of colored people. There was nothing we could do since they have no competitors in GNP. read more

We took this boat for a guided hike to Grinnell Glacier Lake and Grinnell Lake. The boat staff where very friendly and humorous. Matthew had a great wit and friendliness to him. If you get his boat you will have a good time! We saw a bear on the shore and our boat captain stopped the boat so we had ample time to take a peek and see mother and cub. boat cruise on lake mcdonald was lovely. we went out on the first cruise of the day at 11am. perfect time, perfect the captain, whitney, was awesome. knowledgeable about the area, the history, the flora and fauna. we highly recommend this. then at many glacier, we took the swift current lake cruise with 1/4 mile walk to/from lake josephine. very nice, after the lake mcdonald cruise, this seemed a bit anti-climatic. but still, so restoring and inspiring to be out on the water. read more

AMAZING!!! We scheduled TWO tours with this group. We were traveling with 8 families from our grad school with children of varying ages (1yo-20yo) and varying abilities. We reserved our tours one month in advance for our trip over Fourth of July weekend. Optional hikes were included with both of our tours for no additional cost and can be decided last minute. RESERVATION 1: TOUR of MANY GLACIER LAKE "Many Glacier Lake Cruise Tour with Grinnell Lake Hike Guided Walk" We scheduled our tour on Saturday morning with a 9am departure. The tour (with walk) was expected to last 3.5 hours (returning to our departure point at 12.30pm). The tour began behind The Many Glacier Hotel on the east shore of the Swiftcurrent Lake. It started out a cold, rainy morning, but within a few minutes of our walk we warmed up and took off most of our layers. We began with a cruise across the lake. The cruise was lovely, departing from the back the hotel and lasting about 20 minutes. The walk took us across two small "islands" with another mini cruise (about 7 minutes) between them. The rest of the time was a walk across easy/moderate terrain. The first "island" was a short 20 minute walk that was uphill for the majority of it (this was the moderate part). This was by far the most difficult portion of the walk. The rest was very straightforward. WE walked through gorgeous portions of the forest, concluding at a stunning glass top lake with views of glaciers in the majestic hills beyond. RESERVATION 2: TOUR of ST MARY LAKE "St Mary Lake Cruise Tour with St Mary Falls Hike Guided Walk" ****LOVED this tour!!! The other one was fantastic, but this one was BREATHTAKING!! If you do just one tour, do this one!!! ;-)*** We scheduled this tour for Sunday. The tour departed at 10am. With the optional Guided Walk to the waterfalls (which we decided to do), the tour would last 3.5hours. Our tour departed from a Dock on St. Mary Lake, just a few minutes from the St. Mary side of the GTTS Road. This lake was mesmerizing. It was hard not to take hundreds (and I mean HUNDREDS) of images of the lake, the water, the mountains beyond and the the foiliage. What set the St Mary tour above the other tour was: 1) The views of the lake. The quality of the water, the way the mountains sat around it, the way the sun hit the lake- something about this lake captured you at first glance. ("You had me at Hello!"). From start to finish, we had spectacular views of the lake: while waiting for the cruise, during the cruise, and during the first portion of the hike (we hiked up a hill adjacent to the lake with AMAZING photo ops!) 2) The waterfall destination of the hike. GORGEOUS! Everyone had a favorite spot: the kids were able to get close to the water at the bottom; the adults hiked a bit higher up to where the water headed down; the girls loved the bridge overlooking the entire scene, while others were fascinated by the rapid rivers just beyond. 3) bonus river in the middle of the hike. Cute bridge that required some balance and a one-at-a-time crossing. Entertained all of us as we tested our skills! ***NOTES*** CHILDREN: The children all hiked both tours with no issues. The baby was in a backpack and enjoyed the view. They DEVOURED the snacks and beverages during our break. (We actually packed more for our second tour (St Mary Lake Cruise). RECOMMENDED PREPARATION/CLOTHING: We packed water bottles, snacks, wore layers, brought a rain outfit. We packed a small lunch for the kids to eat at the halfway mark and COVERED ourselves with bugspray. All of this came in handy. [*We also had a few cans of bear spray (in case of emergencies). Thankfully we did not have to use it. We were a large enough group, I am sure the bears heard us coming and departed. ] **I recommend you pack the same items for both tours. You will likely be hungrier after the St. Mary Falls Hike because it is slightly longer (or at least seems to be!), so pack a bit more. Keep in mind you have to carry everything during the entire hike. But it is worth every minute!! PRICING (for each tour): Adults (13+years): $24.25/pp; Chidren (4-12yo): $12/child; Babies (0-3yo): Free. [NB: This was the cost for EACH tour, so we paid this TWICE per person]. PAYMENT: They take credit cards over the phone. We paid in full at the time of our reservation. We missed our original tour (we highly underestimated the traffic on Going To The Sun - but Piper (our tour guide) was so sweet and let us go on the next boat since there was room! The entire family had a great time! We had ages in our crew ranging from 87yrs to 2yrs and I can genuinely say we all enjoyed it! Piper was super knowledgeable, funny and an excellent tour guide! Great little boat tour, especially for the price. We wanted to get out on the water and this was a great opportunity on the gorgeous Lake McDonald. The hour tour went by quickly as we learned a little history about the lake and area. There were many empty seats which gave us a chance to move around and take some pictures. The top deck can only have 6 passengers at a time, so a more crowded tour would be uncomfortable. There are no stops, just a pleasant cruise around the lake. read more

They will resell your seats if you don't get there at least 10 minutes before and will not give your money back even when they fill your seats. They expect you to alter your plans and come again when they have an opening! Also check return rides, others have posted about them selecting people for the return boat trips according to money paid. Not up front about no refunds and how they resell your seats even if you get there prior to the boat leaving!!! Not morally and ethically right in my opinion.
