We visited last night. Very disappointing. The service was horrible. We had to ask for our drinks over 5 times. We finally left. The manager didn't even apology. Everyone was very rude. He didn't know how to manage the staff or the bar. We even considered walking across the street for a bottle of wine at the liquor store to at least drink with our dinner since there was no hope of getting one from your restaurant. I came to the area for the day to visit the town and surrounding areas on this nice Fall day. My boyfriend and I brought our dog and were looking for a dog friendly place to eat and have a drink. This was the perfect place. The staff were very friendly and welcoming to us and our dog, and we sat on their front porch. Our waitress Gigi was a sweetheart- attentive, nice, professional and knowledgeable. Highlights: -IPA of the day on tap was delicious -French Onion Flatbread (super crispy crust, cheesy and oniony- sooo good) -Backwards Moonshine Cocktail - Maple bread pudding dessert We also had the grilled pork chop special (with bacon onion jam) and a hanger steak. Visited 08/30/2019 We stopped here for a quick bite. I started with a black bean soup that was very good. My wife had their tomato soup which was served with a little grilled cheese sandwich. Tasty... both the soup and the sandwich. Not being too hungry, I went for the tuna tartare salad. Lots of raw tuna with avocado, lettuce, mango sun chips and a ponsu vinaigrette dressing. My wife ordered the Mediterranean salad... green beans, feta, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, chic peas, charred eggplant and a lemon tahini dressing. Good... but no the best Mediterranean cuisine we've had. Still a little hungry, (I know I said we weren't TOO hungry. Oh well!) we opted to share a flourless chocolate cake served with chocolate chip mint ice cream. Chocolate chip mint wouldn't be my first choice of ice cream, but it went perfectly with the cake. Our family ate here when house hunting a few times and we all loved it! Three of us are vegan and it was easy to find delicious options and my husband and son enjoyed their meals very much. Good choice for folks who must limit exposure to the sun but want to enjoy eating outdoors: ample shaded seating. Food tasted okay; nothing special. Plating was inconsistent. Three of us ordered the spring salad, with two of us adding the salmon and one adding the shrimp. The amount of salad on the first two plates was ample as one might expect for an entree salad, and was served on dinner plates. For the third, the amount of salad was considerably less, and was served on an appetizer plate. The mushroom omelette looked like only one egg was used (yes, I've made omelettes with two large eggs so I know the difference) and contained very little mushroom. The plating of the "eggs your way" was clunky. Service was also okay, with one surprise: the waiter had mistakenly brought out one extra coffee so he left it on the service station. When a member of our party asked for a refill, the waiter served him the now lukewarm cup he had sidelined. I understand establishments don't want to waste bread. Charging for it is outrageous. If the establishment doesn't want to see bread wasted, then only serve it on request. The profit margin on dishes is high enough to absorb the cost, such as the chintzy portion of the spring salad mentioned above. I suppose if you live or find yourself in the area, this is your best choice. read more

The Gladstone Tavern is a treasure! We met up with old friends here for dinner on the way home from a vacation in New England on a perfect late summer evening. The great weather was complemented by the even better food and atmosphere at Gladstone Tavern. My wife had the Za'atar Salmon which was the best she had ever tasted; my Bronzed Mahi Mahi was in a similar category. We had been advised the soups were must-haves here, and my corn chowder with lobster was amazing. We finished off our meal with a Roasted Peach Upside-Down Cake. In addition to the food, the charm and appearance of an inn in a small town gave the evening an intimate, special feeling. The service was attentive and friendly without being disruptive. Can't wait for our next trip to this area to go back to Gladstone Tavern!! read more

Love this place. Not too fancy, but a nice, quiet atmosphere, especially in the outside seating area. Good bar drinks, and the menu changes fairly frequently so there is always a nice surprise on there to try. Buffalo cauliflower appetizer is a winner! read more

I provided a review five years ago and wanted to once again say it's still great. We've ordered takeout since the reopening after the COVID 19 shutdown and the food has been excellent, along with the packaging. Although it's a 25-minute drive, the food is always still hot when we get home. We've always provided a time and the food was ready for pickup when we arrived. What really motivated me to write this review was our Lobster Week order. The lobsters were amazing and so well packed. The kale Caesar Salad was outstanding. The food is fantastic but the service is appalling. We entered the tavern around the afternoon and a wet dog smell hit our noses. We hesitated for a bit before both deciding that we would stay, since the atmosphere looked very inviting. When we sat down, I was given a dirty glass of water with white streaks and kids were running up and around the restaurant, knocking my purse over several times. At that point, I should have left, but I stayed hoping that the meal would make up for the experience. After we placed our orders, it took the manager a miserable amount of time (45 mins) to come over and explained to us that the food would be arriving in a few minutes and apologized for the delay which was caused by a large party. Really, Mr. Manager? You couldn't have told us early on when we placed our orders so we are prepared to wait?! As part of the inconvenience, he offered us some cocktail or dessert (we chose the dessert) **which never arrived**. From the time the waitress took our order to the arrival of our food, we waited an hour for our three dishes, French toast, steak and egg skillet, and mushroom and potato skillet to arrive. The French toast was soft and fluffy and came with a side of bacon, the steak and egg skillet was cooked to perfection, but my mushroom and potato skillet tasted like they left some dish soap on the plate. First, I thought it could come from the aioli sauce, but I have had aioli before and it does not taste like soap to me. At the conclusion of our meal, we asked to have the rest of the French toast boxed up, and the box came back sticky with syrup, we ended up leaving it at the restaurant. In addition, our little treat that was promised for waiting an insane amount of time for brunch never came and neither the waiter or the manager mentioned it to us. For a $50 brunch, I don't expect the service to be amazing, but I don't expect it to be sh!t either. This restaurant is so lovely and the food was good (except for the soap), but I will not come back and pay $50 for terrible service and dirty/soapy dishware again. read more

I came in on saturday with a group of friends and was really excited after reading all the reviews. Unfortunately a friend of mine and I split the burger and immediately felt sick, we both threw up later on. My friend felt better, but I continued to not be able to contain any food during the weekend and had to go to the doctor on Monday. This is by far the worse food poisoning experience i've had. If you do decide to go, make sure to get ur meat well done. Edit: after I called to complain, the manager was quick in following up, issuing me a refund, and even asked for my doctor's contact in order to reach out to him and see what the problem was in their meat. You can tell the restaurant takes these matter really seriously which is reassuring. read more

The only disappointment I have is in myself for not coming here sooner. It's so close to my house! Heated outdoor seating. Friendly attentive service. Great food and lots of options with specials as well. My husband had the chocolate pumpkin mouse and wow it was amazing! The calamari was great, the crab cakes were a little too fried for me but he liked them, very kid friendly. Food: We got the lobster tacos and a dinner special- fettuccine with corn, tomatoes and clams. The fettuccine was delicious! The balance of the salty cream corn sauce with the sour cherry tomatoes were a good balance. The pasta was cooked well and tasted fresh. The lobster tacos were a miss. The lobster is fried and has a buffalo sauce. I would have preferred if the lobster was fresh. Dessert: They have homemade ice cream. We got the garden mint chip and the cookie dough malt. We didn't like the cookie dough malt because it was a weird salty and sweet balance. It was way too salty. The garden mint was really delicious. We could tell that it was made with fresh mint! Not the mint flavoring! Price: This place is a little pricey. The entrees are around 20-25 dollars per plate. Service: The service is good but apparently only your server can help you because when we tried to order dessert with another waiter, he didn't take it and went to get our table's server. We had dinner here on 8/21. I hate to give this restaurant a negative review during these terrible times, but the food was just not edible. The tacos appetizer had this bitter taste from I guess something that was fermented? The prick drink was awful. Burger was tasteless and the fries it came with were soggy. Went to look at classic cars today at Rob Francis Porsche and decided we wanted to try some new surroundings for our lunching pleasure. Now understand, this is a very nice well to do area and I wasn't too familiar with the eateries offered here, familiar with the area yes, never stopped to eat. Proudly and stately preserved, tastefully unmolested was the focus with efforts applied towards displaying the simpler times of bygone era. The interior of this establishment boosts earth tones, shall we call it "neutral" colors? Tans, browns, earthy wood tones. To the right of the maître station, in a room behind french doors, was encased a wonderfully sustained pub, quite and appealing just our style...subdued classical non pretensions, very subdued and sophisticated. Originally, we sought outdoor dining and the several tables on the "farmers" porch were occupied, curiosity peaked we entered through the classic front doors, with the intention to reserve a table outside. Unbeknownst to wifey and myself, there was a bountiful outdoor covered patio dining area to the side, hidden by an herb garden and trees. Wow, perfect for an on the spot lunch, how lucky are we?? although, I must confess the front porch would have been more intimate and therefore appealing to me, but the patio was fine also, I shared my lovely bride with the other diners. Well, food selections were limited but imaginative just the same. Wifey selected salmon atop a kale salad tossed ever so lightly with a Caesar dressing garnished with shaved parmesan sliced cauliflower and capers dotted with chef made focaccia croutons. My selection was the hot chicken sandwich, (simple I know) which honestly was deep fried and bathed with Franks Hot Sauce and topped with cabbage slaw and accompanied with fries. My only complaint... too much rosemary in the slaw which overpowered the blend. Overall... wifey loved her salmon and kale salad with sliced green olives and Caesar dressing and we both loved the vibe of the establishment. Last night we met friends for dinner, I had not been to this establishment in years and thought it was a good half way mark for meeting up with our friends. I had asked to be seated indoors when I made the reservation and looked around and no one was sitting in the restaurant not to mention she couldn't find our reservation and the realized she crossed us off because 1/2 of our party had already arrived. The service was very slow and the dishes not very well articulated. The main meals were very high for what they were - 3 slices is eggplant and a side of broccoli rabe was $25 and a 2 1/2 oz of Tito's vodka, no vermouth was $15 and the wine selection was awful. They came to take your food before you were finished your meal. The food was just OK for what they charged and the service was sub par to say the least. Should have gone to Sapori or Cafe Azzuro's, BYOB the food and service are always good. I was embarrassed to have recommended this place to our friends. The ambience was something to be desired. Came in for dinner on a Friday night to use a gift card we had received. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere inside as there is a nice vibe and a variety of seating options. Service was very slow, which was ok because we weren't really in a rush (but we were hungry!). We started with the Mezze platter which was a great choice to share. The hummus, tzatziki, and tabbouleh were delicious! For entrees we had the skirt steak and chicken schnitzel - both were very good, but not great. We enjoyed dessert the most (lemon bar and s'more). Not even in top 100 of any choices other than maybe a beer & bar fare if stranded walking distance, or maybe the pizza place around the corner instead. Went on this past Sunday afternoon and it was my first and last visit. It wasn't crowded at all so we got to Sit outside on the front porch which is in desperate need of simple maintenance. Peeling paint and stained railings. Went inside to use the restroom and the smell of stale and actual shi! Hit you right in the face. The smell got worse as you got closer to the bathrooms. Obviously there's a septic issue. Understandably nobody was inside. The server was ok but brought me a chicken sandwich when I ordered a chicken salad My ice tea sat empty for a long time before I had to flag someone down for a refill. Very limited choice of beers both tap and bottled. The place is in desperate need of updating. For the prices they charge and the product they deliver I would not go back. Exceptional service in the dining room at lunch today from Gigi (thank you!) plus good food & good beer so that made me a fan and motivated a rvw update. Vanilla porter was out danigit but a pint of Troeg's Nugget Nectar was a very tasty amber ale, $7.50. We ordered a special short-rib sandwich and a shrimp-avocado wrap, both came with a tall bucket of fries for about $13 each. Nothing gourmet or innovative but well executed and tasty (altho fries shoulda been a bit hotter). Then we split a peanut-butter disaster of a dessert - excellent brittle and cookie, the jar o' cake & ice cream was over the top. WOW. Had my daughter's wedding shower on the outdoor porch today. Amazing! EVERY guest made a point in telling us what a great place it is, how much they enjoyed their food, drinks, service - the whole thing. Didn't hurt that we had perfect weather (aided by the Tavern's outdoor climate system and a beautiful sunny day). Excellent dinner with excellent staff. Went to celebrate an early Christmas dinner on Dec 23rd with family as a party of seven. We were sat near the fireplace which was amazing! Come here for the drinks outside in the patio with good food and outdoor dinning. Must try their cumin crusted spare ribs. They are soy glazed with different spices and herbs that fall of the bone when you pick them. Served with kimchi. Never had a rib like that before! So if you are waiting for your train or in the area, it makes sense to come here. read more

I want to relate a story about the Tavern that I think really portrays the total lack of customer regard the establishment has. My wife and I attended the annual rescue dog charity event this summer as we always do. When our drinks were being served the server lost control of her tray and two flutes of champagne tumbled off drenching my wife and smashing to the ground next to our dog. I also was splattered but not nearly as badly as them. I quickly grabbed our dog and ensured there was no broken glass in her coat and dried her off while my wife did the same for herself. The waitress was definitely upset about the incident but we didn't make a big deal out if it as accidents do happen. We were moved to a dirty table while cleanup was happening. They were understandably focused on removing the glass as there were several dogs in the area. Another server presented himself to us and said he was replacing our server and would be taking care of things. The manner in which he did this implied he was senior in position and therefore better qualified to continue. We sat for quite some time with dirty dishes even though there were multiple clean tables we could have been moved to. Even after our table was cleaned I had to hunt down the staff to clean the pet area since the previous diners had ordered the pet dish and the remnants and old water bowl were still there. Finally the table was clean and usable and lunch was served. While we were given a cursory apology immediately after the crash no other mention was made and the service was relatively inattentive. When the bill was presented once again there was no apology given or mention of the incident. I paid the bill and then told the server I've taken care of my responsibility but what will the Tavern do in regard to my wife's Coach purse that was stained in the deluge. He seemed befuddled by the question. I asked him how they were going to pay for the necessary cleaning since they damaged it. The response was mind boggling. He said he didn't know that was a policy. Realizing he didn't have a clue I insisted he go find his manager to deal with the situation. The manager finally offered the apologies that should have been extended earlier and agreed it was their responsibility to remedy the stained purse. We agreed I would get back in touch once we had the work done to arrange payment. After I called and asked for the manager by name, Rich, we didn't get a call back for nearly a week. Unfortunately I wasn't near my phone and he left a message which I returned in about 2 hours. Another 5 days have passed and still no return call. As someone that managed a restaurant for 5 years I'm severely disappointed in the handling of this situation and the total lack of concern the employees displayed. However it is clear that the managers/owner must project that attitude to them. There is no way I would have allowed an employee to disrespect an aggrieved customer. Nor would there be any question of remedying damage an employee caused. In this case it is obvious the employees aren't trained to respect customers in as much as the management team also lacks the respect for customers. I cannot recommend anyone go to an establishment that demonstrates no regard for the customers they are there to service. read more
