Went on a Saturday at 5:00. The maitre d was extremely rude when we said we didn't have reservations. He offered for us to sit in the bar, however the bar was a ledge with stools. The hostess, who was very sweet, said they had tables available and the stanley tucci look alike maitre d thought he whispered to her- but we heard- "no we don't". I've been a regular customer here for several years. They make terrific drinks, and their food is usually quite good. The management is comically combative when it comes to negative Yelp reviews. Tonight, I ordered the goat cheese ravioli. This is a dish I've ordered before, and it's been FANTASTIC: homemade pasta stuffed with perfectly spiced, fresh goat cheese. It was surpassingly good. The best ravioli I've ever had. Tonight, I was served a plate of what I'm sure was Celentano frozen ravioli. There was no goat cheese. The ravioli itself was round (like Celentano), not square like the the ravioli served previously. And it was stuffed with tired, flavorless ricotta--clearly a frozen supermarket entree. And I know my frozen supermarket entrees. Umm. That's a $26 item on the menu. Available for $5.99 from your local Safeway. But, hey, they've got good drinks. Maybe I should just stay quiet and appreciate the plight of a hard-working restaurant owner, yes? read more

Came here as part of a group lunch by suggestion. The ambience of the place was nice, nothing over the top but cozy. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food, even with average prices. We started off with some guacamole and chips and a flatbread French dip pizza. The chips were overly salty and the guacamole didn't have much flavor to it. I have to say the best thing here was the French dip flat. It was tasty and reminded me of eating French onion soup. I got the steak frittes. It was decent, nothing particularly wrong with it, but nothing exciting about it either. Some of my colleagues got dishes with a side salad. I thought it was cute they served the salads in cups, it looked pretty but didn't seem to be the most efficient way to eat salad. We decided to skip dessert here. The menu struck me as average, some typical options and it's farm to table. There's nothing that is drawing me to come back here again. read more

Never have I walked into a restaurant when I asked the waitress to make me a special drink and the bartender actually makes it unknowingly with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. I ordered the chicken alt which came with a ton of fries and was fresh and delicious. It's an upscale homey tavern feeling. The service was great. First time coming here was in the summer , I really enjoyed that seasonal menu . I came back this week after a hike . Decided to sit outside . We started with a cheese board and beer . The beer selection is pretty good & the cheese was yummy as well . For mains I ordered a shrimp avocado wrap which was a little too fishy for me . It almost tasted as if it was a seafood salad mix . The food took over an hour to come, any everything seemed a little overpriced for what it was. edit in response to the owners reply: if you speak like this to your customers i'm shocked you have customers at all. We rated 1 star due to the fact our food wasn't awesome plus the wait was so long. Not sure if this was due to one our guests ordering a steak and may have taken a lot longer to cook than our scallops, but we arrived at 6 and didn't receive the food on our table till around 7:15/7:20. This is a very fine restaurant, and for those Debbie Downers who have complained big time and I glean that it's typically a holiday (be it a Mother's Day, Easter etc), you've got to be out of your minds thinking that you won't be waiting for your entrees. That and you obviously don't dine out much, or understand that service staffs in most businesses are running 'light'. Dined there last evening with our experience being superb. What a beautifully appointed room with wonderful, personable waitstaff. My mushroom flatbread appetizer and chicken schnitzel were very good. Well prepared and plated. My friends were equally blown away by their meals as well. Butternut squash bisque (which I tasted) was different and well executed. Boneless beef short ribs with creamy horseradish mash with root vegetables were highly praised by my friend. High marks for our server 'Eulie' who does her job extremely well. Amazing experience from start to finish. Our table of 4 received attentive service and incredible food. We started with crab tots, lobster corn chowder and the fresh-baked focaccia. From the specials menu our server recommended the lobster pasta, absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed three other seafood dishes, mahi mahi, branzino, and shrimp in a blue cheese sauce. Each entree was beautifully presented and so good! The chef/owner Tom stopped by our table to make sure everything was to our liking...and we assured him that it was! We've been going to this place for years and it has been consistently excellent on all counts. However we went last night and the food was stunningly awful, among the worst entrees I've ever Not eaten: the skillet fried half chicken. It was simply skinless and boiled to tasteless rubber and briefly fried in greasy chicken juice served with mushy warm ratatouille. The buffalo cauliflower was very good. The bacon peach pasta was edible so we ate most of it. The peach salad very small. The fries were excellent as always. Our waitress struggled to manage a smile but she did her job and we had a lot of drinks (They have a great bar) so we tipped her well. On the whole fries and appetizers were good but the food was not even close the standards we expect from one of our favorite eateries. Thanks for getting back to me . I recently dined at Gladstone Tavern with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening. It's a beautifully restored farmhouse, with an upscale horsey vibe. We were there on a Friday night and the bar was lively and energetic, with LIVE music! The drinks were amazing! I savored a Smoked Peach Old Fashioned that was a piece of art. We planned to sit outside on the patio, but gusty winds landed us in a cozy room with a large stone fireplace. The real highlight was the food, all made in house, from scratch. Short ribs are my specialty, but these were other worldly. My friend had the best fish tacos EVAH. The plating was artistic and appetizing. Apparently the chef makes his own ice cream that came with my banana crunch dessert - the most delicious rum sautéed bananas in a filo nest with almond bark. WOW. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend, a real gem. read more

The Gladstone Tavern is excellent...the food, the service, the ambiance, are all top notch. We recently had dinner there, and every course featured delicous creations. The Tavern offers indoor and outdoor dining with a large covered patio, as well as seating on the wide front porch. We started off with the lobster corn chowder, crab tots and fresh baked focaccia. For our entrees we each chose a different seafood dish...lobster, shrimp, mahi mahi, and branzino. Each was prepared expertly and the portions were generous. Chef Tom Carlin stopped by the table to see if we were happy with our meals, and we assured him that we were pleased with the meals and were looking forward to dessert! The dessert menu has both simple and complex offerings. My husband always wants a warm chocolate chip cookie, and the rest of us enjoyed peach upside down cake with homemade ice cream. First - I have read the other reviews and the owner of GT does not like YELP, and he says that in all the negative reviews. EDIT - you can now read Tom's reply below! He says that the Maitre'd was not yelling at us but in fact HE WAS and his attitude MADE US FEEL uncomfortable and unwelcome!!! This is absolutely not the way this should have been handled at a fine restaurant like GT. Tom, the owner, also says that I made an online reservation and did not specify a location, I know for sure I did not pick outside seating and I did not know that I could be sat ANYWHERE including outside, even if I did not pick it. That was MY understanding when I made the reservation. Second -- I write MANY, MANY, MANY positive reviews! Third -- I'm sad and disappointed that I am writing this poor review for The Gladstone Tavern. We have been patrons of the Gladstone Tavern for at least 10 years maybe longer. I say that because, I want to be clear this is not our first or second time. Over the years we have had many amazing meals, celebrated many special occasions, Thanksgiving and attended Mixology classes with Robby (the most amazing bartender)! So, to our dinner last night at the Gladstone Tavern, April 29, 2022. I made a reservation through Open Table and was sure NOT TO CHOOSE outside dining. We were taking my 85 year old Mom with us and I knew she would not want to eat outside, she would be most comfortable inside. We arrived and the maitre d' started to walk us to our table. He was walking us to the back of the restaurant - which I knew meant we were headed outside. We told him we that we wanted to eat inside, he was not happy with our request and it showed. As I looked around, there were PLENTY of open tables in the main dining area. I repeated to him that I had made a reservation and was certain, that I did not pick outside dining, this basically just made him more frustrated and it showed (very unprofessional). He comes back from the host stand and offers us OUTSIDE on the Front Porch. We repeated that we wanted INSIDE. We got on the phone, made a reservation at another restaurant and walked out! As we left, the same Maitre d' was shouting at us as, in front of all the patrons on the front porch - embarrassing! This is NOT the Gladstone Tavern we have loved over the years, the poor attitude/behavior of the Maitre d' is something we never want when going out for a nice meal but even more disappointing that this happened at GT. My better half and I just got home from our first time at Gladstone Tavern (we've lived in the area for years...not sure why we've never been here before). One word...AWESOME. My prime pork chop was phenomenal...perfectly cooked...tender...juicy...etc. Most places dry out pork...not Gladstone Tavern. Her crab cake was great also. She had a glass of Rose, and I had one Ketel martini...the martini was spot on. Lastly, we took home 2 items off the kids menu for our twelve-year-old, and he loved them both (kids burger and chicken nuggets). We'll be back this week! read more

We haven't been to the Gladstone Tavern is a long time and decided to try out their Burger Night - we both ordered their Tavern Burger. It was good, not amazing, but not bad. Fries were ok - lacked seasoning, but overall they were good. We sat down on the tavern side, they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. The ambiance was great - nice bar area on one side, full restaurant seating on the other side. Service was very slow - the bartender had a big job, tending to all the drink orders from the restaurant and taking orders for those seating at the bar and tables in the bar area. She had her hands full for sure. Wait time for burgers was rather long, the appetizer never arrived so we canceled it. In the tavern (bar) area, there were a couple customers vaping at the bar - not pleasant at all with folks eating right next to them and kids sitting in the area. I thought NJ had a law for this, however management or the bartender didn't seem to mind - maybe they didn't notice, but I'm not sure how you couldn't. Anyway, we would go back and try again - hopefully better service and no vaping in the tavern. read more

Went recently for brunch, first visit. Service was incredibly slow - took 15 minutes for the waiter to even stop by. I'm assuming due to short staff issues. Another 15 for water/drinks. Oh well. Food was tasty, fresh and well presented. Server was nice. My issue is charging $18 for Bricohe French toast - there are only 3 half slices of toast, a sprinkle of berries and a few strips of bacon. What a ripoff! I'm a full grown person serve me three FULL slices of French Toast! How hard is that? Or include a couple of eggs. Super expensive for what you get with that dish. We went to dinner here with friends on a Wednesday evening. The place has a big outdoor seating area and nice ambiance inside. The staff was friendly and attentive but service was slow. Our drinks and apps came right out but we probably waited 45 min for our main course. We were talking and catching up so it was fine but you could have a long night here. Guacamole and chips were very good, the chips were freshly fried and the guacamole was fresh as well. Summer flatbread had tomato and roasted shishito peppers. There are only a couple vegetarian options-impossible burger and pad Thai so if you are a vegetarian this place might not work. The spare ribs were falling off the bone and the rub was so flavorful with a bit of a kick to it. I would say the food was good, maybe a little overpriced for what it was and the service was a bit slow getting food out especially since the place only had 8 other diners besides the 5 of us. read more

Stopped in on a Tuesday night for an anniversary dinner with my husband. We were sat by the cozy fireplace and handed an unexpected glass of champagne. Nancy our server gave us excellent service while giving us plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. I had the cod, and my husband had the lamb shank. Somehow we made room for dessert. The whole meal was extraordinary, and the service was impeccable. We will be back for more! read more

The food was excellent, but the long wait for the food was unfortunate. We got there at 11am and were the first customers there but didn't receive our dishes until 12:20pm.
