Glasshalfull is an ecclectic little date night, fancy feeling, eatery with a menu that has plenty of scrummy options. My husband and I enjoyed the charcutery plate to start. With 4 different types of meats, some pork and some beef (I can't for the life of me recall the types), it had an enjoyable variety to keep us interested. The meats were accompanied with crackers, a jelly, and brown mustard. All delish! My husband ordered the sliders with the truffle aioli and I the fritto mistos. Y'all, that aioli!!! Can I just smear that all over my face, please?!?!?! It was to die for! I really enjoyed the fritto mistos plate, however the portion was quite large, and let me just say it does not keep well. Glass half full is a great place if you want to try a lot of yummy things. The food is very tasty however the portions are crazy small for what you pay for. To fill you up you'll likely need at least an appetizer and an entree per person. My favorite thing is that everything came out so hot. I love when my food comes out piping hot and not luke warm. We showed up for dinner on a Friday evening and were seated immediately despite the crowd. While our waitress was attentive, we saw the couple next to us leave due to neglect. The foursome behind us also came close to leaving but was eventually calmed by their waiter. My wife and I were not especially looking for a big meal so we ordered from the small plates menu. My charcuteri plate consisted of three different meats from Spain, France, and Italy, though I suspect they sat in customs for quite a while. I also ordered the fingerling potatoes. I can report conclusively and without hesitation that the charcuteri was indeed served on a small plate and the fingerling potatoes were served in a small bowl. My wife's summer pasta was a unique dish served with eggplant and pesto. In true southern tradition the pine nuts in the pesto were blackened, and the eggplant was surely picked in the summer, though we're not sure it was picked this summer. I hate to have to write such a negative review, but I think everyone should be alerted to how terrible this place is. Went there last night with boyfriend and another couple. None of us had been there before but we thought we would give it a try. The wine is worth trying and is decent, but all four of us agreed that the food was bland, uninventive, uninspiring, and just plain bad. To start, we had the pate plate - which was alright, save for the stale and burnt bread. The pate itself was a bit cold and difficult to spread. (If you love pate, I recommend Piedmont in downtown Durham, which had much better flavor). For our "entrees", boyfriend and I shared the Pork Belly and the Miniburgers. The pork belly was the one of the worst cooked pieces of meat I have ever had. The pork was terribly dry and the fat was not rendered correctly. It was actually difficult to chew and eat. So much so, that I had to flag down the maitre'd (where was our waiter?) to send it back. The second time around, the pork was a little bit more tender, but still not well cooked and did not have the melt-in-your-mouth texture that a pork belly should have. The miniburgers had no taste and were also overcooked. For a restaurant of this price and caliber, you would expect them to grind their own meat in house and be able to cook it to order. Not so. If you have to come to this place and eat, I do not recommend either of these plates. At this point of the meal, I was already very disappointed and for obvious reasons, did not want to waste any more money on dessert. The couple we were with did get some kind of caramel profiterole. I had a taste but was not impressed. I thought it was way too sweet. In any case, for the same amount of money, you can DEFINITELY get a much better meal in Chapel Hill/Durham. read more

Brought some business guests here for lunch and it was a very pleasant experience. There are not many places in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area where I am confident in bringing guests, either chain restaurants or a little low end. This had the perfect atmosphere for international visitors. I had an excellent burger and my guests seemed to love the lobster salad sandwich. They committed that the portions were not large by US standards but it was more of a compliment, they did not want a Cheesecake Factory experience. read more

I would like to start by saying, I would actually give this place a 3.5 if they let me, but since they don't, I am leaning downwards. If I go back, maybe my mind will change. I want to start by saying I hate where this place is located and the lack of parking, but there's nothing they can do about it now. I love the wine store component of the venue and find the interior decor to be almost perfect. The outside patio and entrance, kind of are to generic considering what you get inside. The hostess was very nice, and though I arrived ahead of my party was happy to seat me. The waiter, well, I think he was annoyed that I was alone at first and just was kind of like "what do you want". Once my friends arrived service was better, but I was a little off put at first. I ordered a glass of prosecco, my favorite sparkling wine, and the one on the menu did not disappoint. My group ordered some sangria which was well done, but I thought the $20 price tag was a little steep, especially because the pitcher looked barely half full. Which is where I feel like one star is removed. Dinner was a lot of different small plates. The cheese was good and well chosen. The pumpkin risotto I had was also very good and a good sized portion. Again, I felt as if the price was a $1 or $2 high. Other things that were ordered were the mini burgers and mini lobster rolls (so yummy). Dessert for me was a pumpkin dacoise pastry, which is meringue and pumpkin mousse, which I found very very good. I believe the 5 of us racked up around $150.00 for a bill, and $45 of that was alcohol. I've been going to this restaurant on a regular basis for several years now. And though they began a bit rocky, they hit their stride and have maintained a high level of quality and delight ever since. I recently took a friend out here for her birthday, and we had an excellent evening. Terrific food, beverages, atmosphere and service. The food is inventive and delicious. (I especially love their hamburger.) Their mix of small and large plates means that I get to try a lot of dishes but that I don't go away hungry. And even though I am a total wine nerd, I completely enjoy their cocktails. I think their margaritas are one of the most enjoyable and original in all of Carrboro/Chapel Hill. read more

I haven't eaten here but I've enjoyed some wine and really enjoyed the setting. It's a nicely sized space with a small wine shop attached with plenty of booths, tables and barseats to find what works for you and your group or +1. I love that it isn't loud here and the lighting is subdued with candles and even thought we were just buying drinks they were more than happy with us taking up a booth. The wait staff/host were all very nice and gracious. Friendly and professional. I'd definitely go back to get dinner sometime. read more

Had a wonderful dinner Saturday night. We are inside but the bar & patio were filled with patrons. I've read a few bad reviews and I did not experience anything negative while dining here. Our server was extremely attentive and the food we ordered was all delicious. We started with the goat cheese flat bread - a favorite of ours and it did not disappoint. My husband had the steak frites and I had the beet salad and the mini lobster and shrimp rolls. Everything was wonderful. Thank you to our waitress and to the others who made our meal memorable. GlasshalFull is very a classy upscale place with bottles of vino for sale on one side with rather high prices. The menu is limited to a few starters and a few items of seafood, a few under meat and some under vegetables. GlassHalFull tries to be a tapas bar. Ordered the fried Brussels sprouts and scallops entree. I liked the brussels sprouts very much. The scallops were cooked nicely on top of sweet potato puree. Stopped here on a Friday night before a Cat's Cradle show and thrilled that we did! Great spot with tables, cozy booths and a full bar indoors, or a nice patio tables surrounded by greenery. Was with 2 friends and we wanted to taste everything, so decided on a pitcher of sangria (tasty and refreshing) and 5 tapas to share: Ceviche: special that night, made with NC shrimp. So good! Brussel Sprouts: with a lemon-honey glaze, red pepper flakes, and toasted peanuts. Wow - amazing. Who knew veggies could be so heavenly? Beet And Kale Lasagna: fresh beet pasta, kale, leeks, pinenuts, ricotta cheese, local goat cheese, and a yellow beet sauce. I had my doubts when ordering but I was fighting for the last bite :) 3 mini lobster rolls: really good for NC, but I had just been to Boston the week before so difficult to top their lobster rolls. mmmm lobster. Coca: flatbread with caramelized onions, goat cheese, preserved figs, shallot, garlic, shiitake mushrooms, and arugula. My least favorite, in comparison to the other dishes. We were quite full after all that, but the dessert descriptions swayed us and we decided to split the chocolate terrine. Don't let them describe the desserts if you're trying to say no! This was not a good experience. We came on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was half full. We were sat next to the front door when plenty of other tables were full. After an extended wait, our server greeted us. We immediately placed an order(we'd had plenty of time to look at the menu). The food was just BAD, especially at the price point. The three mini lobster rolls tasted like mayonnaise, and clearly had some sort of filler in them-we didn't even finish the third, or have any desire to take it home. The seared tuna was over cooked, and lacked flavor, and served over a bed of some mush. The fries were pretty good, and the Brussels sprouts just ok. Service remained spotty until the end of the meal...when after asking for the check, we waited again for a long time before they finally brought us a check. The atmosphere is nice, the bar is pleasant, as is the location. However, 55.00 for a few bad small plates and a glass of iced tea makes it not worth another try even though it's just a few blocks away. read more

Fantastic!!! Loved the food - the Lobster rolls were generous with and the sliders were extremely flavorful! We unleashed our culinary curiosity and swapped dishes among our foursome (best of all worlds, in my book). The wine menu is substantial and they price by the size of the pour. I love the 3oz option! I get to sample a bunch of wines and add on to my list of favorites without feeling guilty about not finishing a glass. The service was great; our waitress was attentive and helpful with our questions; she definitely knew the menu first-hand. I will definitely be back! read more

I'm not sure why Carrboro/Chapel Hill can't seem to get the wine bar dynamic right. My previous roommate's friend deemed this place "Glass Awful" even before it opened, and I've been here enough times to say that it pretty much lives up to that billing. The food is overpriced (under-portioned) tapas; the wine is nothing special - it is infuriating to be given a wine list with the in-restaurant prices and retail prices (there is a small wine store) listed side-by-side (paying $8-12 extra for someone to open the wine for you? no thanks); the wait staff is largely unhelpful; and, perhaps worst of all, the clientele gives the place more of a Southern Village/Meadowmont burgeosie feel than typical downtown Carrboro hippie-chic. Can a few entrepreneurs get together and create a chill, dare-I-say hip wine bar without any of the usual, cliched trappings of the West End Wine Bar and this place? Please? read more

Came on a weekday evening, around 9pm, plenty of seating. Waiter was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu. Between 2 people, split the following: Charcuterie - I just came back from a 2 week vacation to Italy, so I have to say that it really can't compare to the meats/cheeses I got to try there, but overall still enjoyed this appetizer Fried brussel sprouts - unique Asian flavors mixed in, paired quite well with the meat entrees Skirt steak - delicious, really tender and perfectly cooked Duck confit - moist, tender, well seasoned, meat fell off the bone Berry crisp with ice cream for dessert - again, no complaints. Tart perfectly melded with the sweet of the ice cream. The above plus 2 glasses of wine came out to around $85 after tax, which was a bit pricey for me given the fact that the portion sizes were quite small. It was a good thing we ate late in the evening or else I would have gone to bed hungry. No complaints about the food itself, though. It was all delicious. Just definitely cannot come here on a frequent basis... wallet can't handle it. :( read more

We popped in for a bite on the way back from the movies. The interior decor and ambience is great - fabulous lighting, exposed red brick walls and cased-in piping, sort of industrial glamor. The menu was interesting and varied. We plumped for the mini-lobster rolls, the heirloom tomato salad and a flatbread dish with figs, serrano ham, caramelized onions and cheese. Everything was good, though I'm with other reviewers - it does seem overpriced for the size of the plates. But the flavors are reasonably inventive. In particular, the tomato salad included watermelon, aged balsamic, goat cheese and a horseradish granita sprinkled on the top. Service was swift and competent. Joel had a reasonable beer; I passed on the alcohol this time but will go back to explore the wine menu. read more

GlassHalFull didn't impress me nearly as much as I'd hoped it would. The signage and overall design of the place is lovely and inviting, but the actual layout is terrible. The tables are all squished together and when it's busy it's impossible to relax and chat without catching frequent snippets of everyone else's conversations. While I'm used to ordering a few $4-6 dishes for a tapas dinner, their portions are far smaller than similar places. And those $10-14 small plates? About the same size as the $4 ones, just with higher-end ingredients. I'm no foodie, so it doesn't make sense for me to pay that much money if I can't taste the difference. I'm also no sommelier, but I was surprised that the wine list wasn't longer. Our server seemed pretty disinterested, but the food did come out relatively fast. I think if GlassHalFull outlasts its status as one of Carrboro's trendy restaurants and actually has to start working to attract customers, it could be a really great place. read more

Went here with a four other people and ordered 12 dishes on the menu. We were hungry. After trying a bit of everything I came away liking three dishes. The Sliders, Crabmeat Mac N Cheese and The Lobster Roll. I should note that i hated The Heart of Palms dish. As for the other eight dishes, they were par. With that said this is a tapas restaurant and out of 12 dishes I only came away liking three of them. Not that impressive. That's why I gave this place three stars. I would come back though because the dishes I did like we're really good. They also know how to pour a decent cocktail too. We ate here on a Monday when the restaurant was offering 1/2 price on wine bottles. Thus, the restaurant was crowed and "alive". This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed the experience. All the food was great, here is what we had in order starting from the most yummy dish.... Overall: Ambiance is very nice -- I would categorize this under a nice date spot I had the lobster rolls and I just loved them! They were very good.. First, the food. Small plates are in the $7 to $12 range, while large plates were around $17-$21. The large plates weren't meals, just a single dish, so to have a meal you had to combine the large and small plates, pushing our entire bill to around $100 with tip for a single shared appetizer, two vegetables, one large and one small plate for the main course, a single dessert, and a few glasses of wine! For her main course my wife had a small sausage plate that was quite good. The sausages were interestingly spiced, nicely cooked, and sitting on what I'll describe as a delicious white-bean, smoked eggplant cassoulet. My vegetable was kale and butter beans. The beans were cooked the traditional way in a meat broth, making a kind of soup, and flavoring the kale nicely. It really was quite good, and kale is pretty hard to cook properly. My only improvement would be that given that kale is in season it would have been nice to have locally grown. My dish was a large plate of fried flounder that was described as "ANDALUSIAN", which surprisingly meant sprinkled with large chunks of raw garlic. The fish was luke-warm and undercooked instead of hot and flakey. Flounder is a mostly tasteless fish, and so recipes need to pair it with other sources of flavor, or go for a crispy fish-n-chips effect. For example, the Andalusian fish recipes I looked up recommended anchovies, which of course are full of flavor. In this case, the raw garlic was odd-- most of time the dish gave up the no flavor at all, and then ever so often I'd get a piece with a chunk of raw garlic. Not pleasant. What was described as "spicy pimento-aregano aioli" just tasted like regular aioli to me and wasn't spicy at all. I couldn't bring myself to finish it, which my wife will attest is quite unusual. For dessert my wife ordered a flour-less chocolate concoction. It was a very small inverted cup of lightly chocolate flavored pudding swimming in a white sauce. I couldn't stand it, but my wife was happy to have something without flour which she is trying to avoid. With dessert I had a great cup of coffee, and my wife ordered tea, and while he brought the wrong tea, the pot was cute and the tea was good. On to the service. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, and helped us pick out some wine pairings that we really liked. $8/glass seemed a steep, but we did enjoy it. As the price of the meal goes up, so does our expectations for service. For example, when I pay $11 for a sandwich at Mill Town, I don't expect to get a separate salad fork, but when I'm paying $100 for a meal, is it too much to task to get a clean fork for the main course and dessert? One thing that bugged us was our waiter had a problem removing dirty plates from our table. The messy appitizer plates were left there the entire meal, and empty wine glasses remained through the courses. The plates themselves were rectangular and cute, but the plate was too small for my fish dish, and the flavored garlic chunks fell off, creating a mess on the table that the waiter never noticed and I had to finally clean up myself to keep from staining my clothes. All-in-all we definitely won't be coming back for dinner. For $100 for dinner for two there are much better options out there with both better food and service. Although the wine selection isn't nearly as large, I would consider trying Glass Half Full again as alternative to the West-End Wine Bar where we could get a couple of glasses of wine and an appetizer. read more

My boyfriend and I went here after he got off work on a whim. Boy, were we blown away! DISCLAIMER: this is a nice restaurant. I would recommend wearing something classier than jean shorts and a tank top. Do not do as I did. So, to start: we went on a Friday night around 6:30, so it was a prime time for dinner. The hostess took a minute to see to us, and there was a half hour wait to be seated inside, however (for drinkers) there is a nice-looking bar to wait at - boyfriend and I got lucky, it was beautiful out, so we sat outside. We didn't spend much time in the restaurant itself, but the outdoor space is very charming. There is a lot of seating, under a roof and out of the open, but it was quiet and tranquil and very nice to just sit and chat with ourselves. However I noticed quickly that my summer lounging outfit wasn't quite making the cut. I would have felt a lot more comfortable had I worn a nice summer dress or at least a pair of white capris and a nice blouse and necklace. C'est la vie. Our waitress was just a doll, very attentive and kind and a little quirky, just like me. She made excellent suggestions and was sure to check on us throughout the meal. The menu does not have a TON of variety, but that's because the foods they do serve are extremely detailed and unique and have very intricate flavors and technique, apparently. My boyfriend had to order for us because the menu overwhelmed me a little bit. He was raised a little more higher-class and could figure out what "charcuterie" is, but there was a lot going on for me. Before the food was served we were given bread and olive oil. And I mean jus to live oil. Not the kind of olive oil I use to cook at home, but real, tasteful olive oil. I was so confused - why aren't there herbs in there or something? Y'all, this olive oil doesn't need herbs. It spoke for itself. For an appetizer boyfriend got us the whitefish spread. I was like, oh, okay, cool, I like whitefish, that works for me. Whitefish spread is not exactly whitefish. It is BLENDED WHITEFISH, with potato to make it creamy??? It was served with toasted bread, arugula, pickled onion, radish, and onion or bacon jam, some kind of down thing that shouldn't be JAM. There is so much going on in this dish. And it's all supposed to go on a piece of bread and eaten at once. I was wary. Boyfriend had to try it first. But let me tell you. I don't know what kind of culinary genius they have putting together their menu, but homeboy knew what flavors he was putting together. The whitefish spread was tasty but it was the other flavors on the platter that did it best. Order extra of the jam stuff. Just trust me on that one. For the entrees we asked for the mini burger sliders - with applewood bacon, aged cheddar cheese, applewood bacon and truffle aioli on house made buns. We also got the mini crab cake something or another's. The waitress recommended we get their sea salt French fired to go with that. So we did. The crab cake something or another's - WOW. So good. So much flavor. That was great. Really tasty. The burgers were pretty good too. We asked to have them cooked rare, they were medium, but they are very tiny burgers, you see, that would be hard to do rare, which we were expecting anyway. That truffle aioli, oh my god. Couldn't get enough. The French fries were seriously nothing special. Don't bother. Although they were pretty spectacular when I drowned them the truffle aioli. By themselves though, don't do it. Branch out. Get something different. We were too stuffed to get dessert, but I want to try the cherry crumble. We ended up boxing one of the burgers and a majority of the fries (plus a heck of a lot of the truffle aioli). The bill ended up being $50 even. I mean, this place was a NICE restaurant, totally worth the price. But since it is expensive we won't be able to make it a super regular place. Just a treat. So good. Highly recommended. Just wear nice clothes. Maybe some earrings. Brush your hair. Don't be a ragamuffin. read more

I had a buddy in from out of town, thought it would be ok place. We sat at the bar. They doubled their cork fee to 'help keep the place afloat after pandemic' - ok, maybe, bummer, but no big deal. They were out of our first choice of appetizer, before 7pm - supply chain problems, ok, more covid collateral damage. Then...I order steak frites, which i consider sort of hard to screw up. But they did. As I'm discreetly spitting out half of the last bite's inedible gristle, I'm thinking I might have to ice down my forearm to recover sufficiently to saw off another. The bartender, who was very sweet, asked how it was. I courteously expressed some disappointment. She again invoked the supply chain, explaining that they were having difficulty buying good meat, forcing them to serve retrograde cuts. In sum, I will not be back. read more

Plate Half Full. I joined two friends for lunch today. The ambiance is nice and gives a hip- rustic-urban vibe to the area. The service is friendly. The food s very tasty. I had a the tuna niscioise salad and iced tea. The salad came with white anchovies and seared tuna, green beans, etc. The salad was tasty but..um.. I left feling like I was ready for lunch, the same lunch that just cost $15!!! I apreciate the flavor but for the price I felt like I was in a time-warp of nouvelle cousine where you get a raddish served on a big open plate! Glad the place is smoke-free and they seem to have an interesting wine selction. I hope that either they continue the "tapas" thing but adjust prices or make the meals more ...like meals...not snacks. read more

A few co-workers and I decided to check out this Carrboro outpost last night. The restaurant checks most of the usual boxes -- the industrial setting with exposed brick and varying shades of dark brown is nice, the service is prompt but not overbearing, and the menu is affordably priced for the quality of the fare. The wine and beer selection is also commendable (both the Colomé Malbec and Pernicious IPA were great). For starters, we ordered the chicken and duck liver paté, charcuterie and cheese plates, braised collard greens, crab mac & cheese, and fried Brussels sprouts. The paté was creamy and rich and tasted amazing when juxtaposed against the sweet cherries and sharp mustard. My fellow diners found the mac a little fishy, but I personally appreciated that the cheese didn't overwhelm the flavor of the crabmeat. I was also a fan of the sprouts, which were prepared in a somewhat unique way rather than the hum-drum variety that populates every "New American" menu this side of the Atlantic. All the courses were beautifully plated as well -- it's always a good sign when a chef takes pride in the details. Unfortunately, my main course was the one weak link in the entire experience. I ordered the wild boar chop (perhaps foolishly) expecting a thick slab of pork; instead, it came with a couple cuts of meat resembling lamb chops. I ordered it medium-rare, but the meat was a little tougher than I prefer and the flavors too sweet and mild. My disappointment didn't last long though -- the dessert offerings were exceptional. The best by far was the Mexican chocolate budino, a thick spongy pudding swimming in a sweet milky sauce. The maple butterscotch custard was a close second, with a delicious toasted caramel flavor. The mint and chocolate fudge layer cake and cherry & currant crumble were good as well, but may make more of an impression on folks with a sweet tooth. Lovelovelove this place. I've been twice, and had several courses of the tapas style dishes with a party of four each time. We had appetizers, salads, entree-style, and dessert. The price point will be a bit high for some people, but if you're planning a special night out, this place definitely fits the bill. Very vegetarian friendly, unlike many of the "nicer" restaurants in the Durham area. Service is great, and all the dishes are executed beautifully -- pairings, textures, presentation. I would give them five stars, except for the fact that they serve foie gras. There are so many delicious foods that don't REQUIRE the torture of animals. There are plenty of ways to humanely kill animals/livestock. There is no humane way to force feed geese, which is what is required to make foie gras. Please stop supporting this industry. read more

I took a friend who adores wine for her 50th...she enjoyed all she selected, no surprise. Dinner was OK, nothing special, portions not very generous, was not impressed. Tried lunch last week with my mother. Ordered the "Toast with Goat Cheese" and a salad. She ordered same with soup of the day. Now, first let me say before I go on that we are both petite and don't eat much at one sitting. Received our "toast" that DID NOT equal the menu description. Barely a smear of goat cheese and the other items supposedly on it...really, can you spare it? Salad portion an ounce or so. The bowl of soup was very tasty but the bowl was very small and only 1/2 full. Good thing we were not very hungry but I can tell you that I was pissed that lunch cost 12.00 each for what we received. We recently ordered desserts from Glasshalfull for takeout and loved them! Every dessert was amazing and they packaged all of the toppings in separate containers (whipped cream, nuts, etc separate from main dessert). They also put the desserts in oven safe containers to make it easy to heat them up--I believe they do this with all of their food for takeout. That night we ordered the peach cobbler, the lemon ricotta cheesecake, and the brownie. Next time I would skip the brownie, but they always have a long list of desserts that I am excited to try in the future! Additionally, the curbside pickup was quick and easy. read more

Auto-tip 20% even for sub-par service The venue is quite lovely and we enjoyed the setting. That being said, our waitress was paltry: unfamiliar with menu (not new), forgot drink order 20min after order, and was not amicable. We had to ask another staff member for more water (big server no-no). As a restaurant, they have some work to do. The dishes were tasty, but the size of the dishes themselves was so tiny that we immediately went home and ate leftovers from the night before. Unbelievable! Graduation party of 10. First the good: Service was spot on. Drinks were top notch. Quail was perfectly cooked. As was the duck. All the appetizers were great... we had them all... but the Brussels sprouts were the best. Now the bad: PLEASE TAJE THAT RUBBERY RIBEYE OFF THE MENU. I realize that these places, Crooks included, feel they HAVE to have a steak for the men folk?!? Try a nice flat iron. And forget the fries?!? I understand it's A Thing.... but is a bad thing. Went here on a business dinner thanks to Yelp. It was good and service was fine. It's a wine bar and our waitress was a little lacking in this category. We split items that included whitefish spread, cheese, scallops, fries and a few other things. Eclectic menu and good prices. Enjoy! read more

So, I go to the farmers market in Carrboro back in July. So much beautiful local produce. I then ended up at Glass Half Full for dinner. On the special sheet was Farmers Market Succotash It was a wonderful combination of vegetables from the market. I also ordered the fried brussels sprouts with peanuts. Very fine. I know this review is for a visit from July but I've been to Glass Half Full several times and it has always been consistently good. I'm certain it still is! read more

Had an amazing experience here last night. Got there around 5:30pm or so, sat at the bar with my wife. Place is super clean, and the deco is rad. Bar tender was uber cool and friendly. Wine and beer were spot on, food was delectable. Best brussels sprouts anywhere ever. Honey lemon glaze? Effe yeah! Duck confit? Over the top. I ate every last leaf of arugula like a starving bunny. Plates are small so you can order a variety of items and share. Tapas concept. Really top shelf experience. Can't really think of anything I would change. Just wish they had slick spots like this back home in Greens-boring :) read more

Really, this is a 3.5 rating. This is a charming little restaurant in Carrboro with mostly good food and the service is fine. It could easily be a 5 star place, though, with just a few minor changes. First and foremost (and I hope the management/chef/owner reads this)... they need to change the menu every once in awhile! Sometimes they offer a special and maybe a different fish dish or salad now and then, but they need to offer a lot of new things before we will go back. We have been eating here for nearly two years and I could honestly tell you the entire menu by heart. Many of the dishes are good: the Copa, a flatbread with shiitake mushrooms, Taleggio cheese, figs and arugula, is divine. The mini lobster rolls are delicious and my husband loves the sliders. The tuna is also pretty good- nice and fresh, but the accompanying cauliflower cous cous leaves a bit to be desired - it is just mushy and not very flavorful. And the portion size of the main dishes is quite small for the price. The outside patio is lovely and I recommend trying to be seated there. If there are more than 10 people inside it becomes absolutely impossible to hear. The racket is crazy! A few cloth panels on the ceiling to absorb sound would work wonders... or even just felt or something on the bottom of the chairs. All the surfaces inside are hard and reflective and do not help the lousy acoustics. read more

I have been to Glasshalfull a few times, and went for lunch the other day and sadly have to say, it was not up to par. The first time I went was a few years ago and my husband and I enjoyed their appetizers and a glass of wine. You can't judge a place by this. I subsequently met a friend for lunch about a year later and enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio and at that time the food we had was quite nice. I recall a very flavorful cauliflower cake on top of a bed of mixed greens. This lunch a couple days ago was pathetic. I ordered a mixed green salad with shrimp and the salad was the tiniest portion, with literally no dressing at all, and was served with a shred of cheese and about 5 grilled shrimp. My friend ordered the mini burger on mixed greens and once again, someone must have been sleeping in the kitchen because her greens were also dry. The shrimp were cooked nicely and had a good flavor but for this plate of food to be $15 was absurd. I never could get the servers attention and we were both hungry enough and in a time crunch. Unfortunately she never come back except to bring us the check. For me, the price did not match the quality and why wouldn't they bother to make a large salad (for pennies extra) and make an effort to add a cherry tomato or something and at least dress the damn thing for that price tag? I was hungry when we left and had to stop and get something else to eat. What a drag. read more

We really wanted to like it here. They have a very gourmet menu but overall it lacked flavor for us tonight. The warm shrimp salad was awesome to split as an appetizer. The local beers were good as well. My husband ordered the bone in pork chop and I ordered the market fish special. Both were just okay and over 20.00 a plate. We finished with their dessert special which had a mild cake served with orange marmalade and fresh fruit. Amazing potential, didn't quite wow us with the flavor. Great restaurant. Good wine selection many options for gluten free entrees and desserts. First gluten free Crab Cakes I've ever found. Monday half priced bottles of wine. They contribute to charities on Tue and Wed. Definitely coming back. read more
