The whole place seemed extremely chaotic.The pre exam rooms had no ceiling and you could hear the exam next to you.. very old outdated building.After 25 min the first lady took me.. she did tests after she was done she said I have to see if they want me to do more of course they did.I was then brought to another lady she did more testing....they brought to a man he did more testing..I feel this was all to prolong the situation because the dr was backed up.They really need to stop over booking.The patients time is valuable too. It was now going on 2 hrs I had to ask when they were going to call me back.Finally 15 min later the brought me to a room where I waited another 15 min .I was finally seen by the dr. then a few more tests?All this was supposed to be is a cataract appointment.I spent less time with the Dr than anyone else. At checkout I literally had to ask the guy for a print out.It was almost like I was bothering him.I had to walk up to him he didn't even call me up. I took my 76 year old mom for her quarterly glaucoma appointment to Dr. Chow and was unfortunately…read morevery disappointed. He cut her off multiple times when she was speaking and was too curt when speaking himself, to the point of unpleasantry. We were willing to look passed that if he was a good doctor. But he said he needed to perform "many" tests to know what he was dealing with, and they would not be covered under Medicare. He said he would only charge us $40 for the $100 retinal scan. I was appalled as I had that scan done a month ago on my own eyes at America's Best for only $20, no insurance involved. He also charged $39 for a refraction, which is the part where they test your vision. No other quarterly visit to the other ophthalmologists included a refraction. When we asked for the prescription, which comes from the refraction so she can use it to order glasses, he said there wasn't one. Again, I was not pleased. Every time I've ever had a refraction done, I've received a print out with the prescription. He dilated my mom's eyes before telling us about the additional two $40 tests. When we questioned the charges, he said if we didn't do the tests, then my mom could not be his patient. I don't disagree with "my way or the Highway" itself. I get that it's his practice, his liability. But I would have much appreciated discussing the costs before making her get her eyes dilated. To add insult to that, he did not offer eye wear to her for the dilated eyes. Luckily it was cloudy out, and she was ok. He also told her her eye pressure was very high. She goes to the ophthalmologist quarterly. It would be very unlikely due her pressure to jump across one visit. I don't trust that. She said her pressure has not been that high since her 20's. Something is not right there. He also knows the "many" tests ARE covered fully under Medicare if done on separate dates. He refused to schedule separate appointments. His way or no way. I'm not against "do it now for ease," but I am annoyed by it. My mom shared that other eye doctors did spread tests out across multiple visits. So the tests themselves made sense, but the approach was vastly inconsiderate to the patient. He went from curt to rude. When I asked his front desk gal about the costs to try to understand why this experience was so different from our other experiences, and where does this partial experience with them leave me as I am responsible for taking my mom to her needed medical appointments and this one did not pan out, he shooshed her to tell her to stop talking to me. If you go to see him, don't just trust with a blind eye what he says. Use your own judgement. We will definitely not be going back. And I'm left to apologize to my mom for the horrible experience. His diagnosis have been consistently complete and accurate over the years. And he tells you the truth in a very compassionate way. I have Stage IV cancer and the meds I take are accelerating cataract progression. Dr. Ros diagnosed the problem some time ago and has been monitoring the changes. He recently scheduled the cataract removal surgery. He told me that cataracts are the one disease I'm experiencing that medical science can cure 100%. I love that, especially since Stage IV cancer is not considered curable. Dr. Ros knew exactly what I needed to hear to put me at ease about the surgery and he took the time to talk about it. His kindness is not limited to his patients. I've come into his office several times to find that his receptionist had her child there with her because her sitter let her down. Not many bosses would allow their employee to bring their child to work even in an emergency. He even set up an area where the little one could play with various toys he had in the office. When he came into the reception area between patients, he'd toss the toddler in the air to make her laugh. So not only is he a great doctor but he's a great human being as well.

I recounted a recent bad optometrist experience (elsewhere) to a coworker, who suggested I see an…read moreopthalmologist. This was especially important, she thought, since I had recovered from a torn retina and really should seek specialists when it comes to my eyes. She was completely right, of course. I found Dr. Lam via positive Yelp and Google reviews. I'm so thankful that I did! He was personable and very thorough in his exam. He explained that the blurred vision in my post-surgical eye (from the pneumatic retinopexy/retina surgery) was in fact cataracts. He indicated that I was overdue for surgery since my vision was so negatively impacted. Dr. Lam did my cataract surgery about a month later. It was deemed a success with at least 20/20 vision. Unfortunately, there was blurring over my lens. Dr. Lam explained that I'd need a follow-up laser procedure. Dr. Lam did this laser surgery, a capsulotomy, a few days ago. After resting/napping later that afternoon, I opened my eyes and had clear, unencumbered vision out of my 2x surgery eye! This is the first time I've had at least 20/20 since 1st grade! It's been a long 13 month journey with two eye surgeries and 1 minor procedure, but thankfully, my vision is even better than it was. Dr. Lam is very experienced. In my opinion, he uses tools to accurately and fully assess one's eyes. I felt 100% comfortable with him at all times (a little less with some Medical Technicians if I'm being honest..). He's answered all questions, often fully explaining/anticipating questions even before I have a chance to ask. He also approached treatment more conservatively; for example, he recommended waiting several months post-cataract surgery before having the capsulotomy since lasering too early could re-tear my retina. My capsulotomy was nearly 13 months after my retinal surgery. I'm thankful to Dr. Lam and have great confidence in his abilities! I'm so happy to have found such a capable opthalmologist.

Horrible staff, absolutely inhumane!!…read more My mother is a patient of Dr. Robert Barnes, and had a glaucoma surgery scheduled with him on 02/16/2022. My mother has Medicare (covers 80%) and Medicaid (covers 20%). Unfortunately, Dr. Barnes office does not take Medicaid; therefore, we will have to pay 20%, which I agreed paying. However, Dr. Barnes office has a policy requiring to pay 20% before the surgery. I cannot afford paying the entire cost in full, therefore I requested a payment plan. On Monday, 02/14/2022, 2 days prior to the surgery, I got a call from Caryn asking me to pay $100 today. I said that I can only pay $75 now and I will make another payment in a week, during the surgery follow up visit. She got Sonia, an office manager, on the phone that informed me again about their office policy requiring patients to pay everything before surgery and they already doing me a favor by agreeing to a payment plan. Also, I had some questions related to 'before surgery' instructions and asked Caryn to send a message to one of the techs to answer my questions, but nobody called me back because I have not made a payment yet. Caryn promised to call me back later, but I never heard back from her. I guess that $25 made a huge difference in the patient's care. On 02/15/2022, I got a reminder call from Hinsdale Surgical Center and I informed them about the situation with the payment and raised a concern to the Hinsdale Surgical Center representative about upcoming surgery due to a payment disagreement. Well, only after getting a surgical center involved, I finally heard back from Caryn, but still no call from the tech to clarify the 'before surgery' instructions. When I called back to the office, I had a chance to talk to Sonia, the office manager. I discussed my concerns with her, but all she told me is how busy they are, and the 'before surgery' instructions are very clear and understandable. I am sure, they are clear to her, but everybody is different and some people still need to get a clarification. The office is very busy and does not have time to call me back and answer my questions regarding the instructions, but they find time to call me for a payment. Also, Sonia suggested that I cancel my mom's surgery and I find another specialist. After, waiting for 3 weeks for the surgery, and making arrangements, it will have to be canceled just the day before it was scheduled. It's very painful to see how low-income people are turned around by the doctors if they can't afford paying for the cost of the surgery in full prior to the surgery and there is not much flexibility with the payment plan. I completely understand, that this is not a free clinic, I am willing to pay, but please be flexible with me and allow me to pay in installments. It looks like Dr. Barnes staff does not care about his patients, they only care about collecting the money. This situation is very inhumane, and I am wondering if Dr. Barnes is aware of what his staff is doing.
