Been coming here for many years for the family-style atmosphere and thorough exams. Dr Cheryl usually does my exam, always following up with care from year to year. This week my testing optician was Angie, who has such a fun personality, which helps a lot when you're getting your eyes dilated and doing those eye tests. She pays great attention to cleanliness of the equipment, too. Eyewear optician Tracy is very friendly and caring and she always does a great job. 7/25/2025: Delta, my optometrist at Glen Ellyn Vision Center did a marvelous job in handling lens upgrade of my pair of Silhouettes. I was very happy with her demeanor--very cool, courteous, professional and friendly. I am also very happy with staff assistance at GEVC. I received my updated eyewear in two and a half weeks. I would NOT recommend this business! I went here because the exam was covered by my insurance and the insurance medical gift card would cover part of the cost of frames. I wanted help with reading and distance and expected to be prescribed progressive lenses, however optometrist Cheryl prescribed mono vision lenses for my "unusual prescription". OK The glasses I received dangerously distorted my depth perception. They barely, if at all helped with distance (I couldn't tell) and I had to remove them in order to read! I made a follow up appointment but when I arrived, I was told that I had to pay more money for them to check my glasses in order to possibly use their so called guarantee (if she found fault with her prescription or the glasses). I was not going to give them additional money. They had already received ample payment. After trying to use the receptionist as a go between, Cheryl finally emerged from her office, with arms crossed and an attitude and insisted that she should be "paid for her services". I left with my useless glasses, used up insurance benefits and gift card, and $364 out of pocket. Such a waste! There are so many better places to go that have excellent customer service and much lower prices! read more

UNETHICAL. Dr. Cheryl Meyers was unprofessional and aggressive. After paying for and ordering my contacts I was informed that I had to have additional appointments to receive the contacts I paid for. What for? I already did the trials, my eyes were approved, and I paid for the contacts. According to the FTC it's against the law to require more appointments and not provide a perscription after the sale of contacts. I showed up for the unnecessary appointment where Dr. Cheryl scolded me for not wearing the already used 2 week trials from 2 months ago (contacts I bought were "back ordered") in my eyes. When I informed them they were breaking the law and that l'd like the goods I paid for Dr. Cheryl refunded me my money for the contacts but not for the unnecessary visit. Wasted my time, my money, never gave me my prescription, and never got my contacts. This place is a joke. read more

We switched to this eye doctor 3 years ago because they had adaptive glasses for kids with special needs. Dr. Jeff is my son's favorite. I trust letting my autistic son go in the room with him alone. My husband came home yesterday after spending $300 for 2 boxes of his astigmatism contacts, he miraculously got "medically necessary" clearance and it costed us $20 for a years worth. My mom went to the Glen Ellyn Vision Center to get a pair of glasses and the person at the desk said she had to wear a mask. She said if she didn't have one she could buy one for $1. My mom is older and parked a few blocks away. No consideration was made for this older woman. Vision centers have been making money hand over fist for years and yet they still want a little more. Needless to say my mom, and all the people I tell, will probably never do business with this place. Penny wise, pound foolish move by this greedy little place. read more

HORRIBLE ESTABLISHMENT Background: - I've lived in Glen Ellyn since I was in 3rd grade and currently work in Chicago. - I'm a home owner and a 32 year old father with a 2 year old. I purchased a pair of $550 glasses with a prescription made out by my personal ophthalmologist for distance glass. The distance glasses work fine but I couldn't read my phone so I wanted to switch them out for reading glasses and just use them at my computer for work. They came back with the correct prescription but unfortunately my computer is just far enough away where I cant see anything using the reading glasses. I began experiencing head aches trying to use them at work and decided this was becoming too burdensome and costly so I wanted to return the glasses all together. FIRST INTERACTION: After many weeks of Glen Ellyn Vision Center (specifically Sheron) using the excuse that "the manager is unavailable" or "we didn't have your phone number correct" they REFUSED to return the glasses because the prescription didn't come from them and since they did their part now i'm out over $500 with a pair of glasses I cant use. At NO point during the purchasing process OR is it listed on their website did they mention that you cant return a pair of glass purchased at this company. This establishment clearly doesn't care about their customers or their customer service image and as long as they get your money you're SOL. "Satisfaction Guaranteed".... unless it's inconvenient for GEVC. SECOND INTERACTION: Since I work in Chicago my wife thought she would go to GEVC (not to raise a stink) and try to return the glasses I had been trying to return for a long time. She is the kindest sweetest person in the world and just wanted to ask the owners to please refund the glasses. She went to the store and was greeted with an incredibly rude staff. The manager and the receptionist made my wife (carrying our 2 year old son) very uncomfortable. Coldly explaining they couldn't take back the glasses (for no reason). My wife left extremely upset and shocked that any business would treat their customers, especially local residence, so poorly. Clearly this establishment doesn't care for Glen Ellyn local moms with children who may some day need glasses. THIRD INTERACTION: I called multiple times asking for a manager and the owner Martin (who never once called me back, just had his employees try to handle the situation) and the solution they provided was for me to pay a $75 refraction to fit me with a different prescription, even though the first two were correct and I just wanted my money back. I said "no", I didn't want to pay any more money to a company who has been this horrible to me and my family. I calmly explained, "if you just allow me to return the glasses ill stop calling", so Sheron said she would leave a message for Martin and he would get back to me........ Sheron said Martin was going to get back to me three times over a period of several weeks and he never called me. The leadership at the company is despicable, the managers hide from conflict while the employees just keep passing the buck. FOURTH INTERACTION: I called Sheron and wanted to compromise. My solution was for me to keep the glasses but if they could just please change the lenses to the prescription of my old glasses, this way I could use them at work. Sheron said she would leave a note for Martin and he would get back to me..... Martin never got back to me. Unfortunately I went through the agonizing pain of a kidney stone and didn't call GEVC for over two weeks while I recovered. Once recovered, I called Sheron and mentioned Martin never called me back about my solution so AGAIN she would bring it up with the manager at the store and she would get back to me. FINAL INTERACTION: Joanne the store manager calls me to say that they will not be helping me and that she is going to call the police and file a report that I was harassing their business. I WAS SHOCKED. I could not believe what I was hearing......... One hour later a very nice Glen Ellyn police officer called me to fill out a civil police report. BOTTOM LINE: In 32 years of my existence I've never been treated so horribly by a business. In todays world where news and reputation travels fast, this company and the people working in it don't care about you and don't care about how they are viewed by other potential customers. Shady. I've worked at doctor offices before and was outraged when I saw my husband's invoice. They were billing his medical insurance instead of his VSP first. They were stating that it was a medical or emergency visit when in reality it was only for a routine eye exam for glasses and contacts. I know everyone is pressed for money these days, but this is a shady way to do business. read more

Destroyed a friends glasses. Get this. My friend brings them a perfectly good pair of glasses that need an updated prescription. But instead of filling the prescription, they destroy the frames. It turns out that when you bring a pair there they have you sign a "not responsible for breaking your glasses at the lab" waiver. My guess is that this happens a lot. read more

I was very unhappy with my appointment here. I presented with a set of symptoms that I now know to be the classic signs of optic neuritis. This is a condition associated with degradation of the optic nerve (it is commonly associated with MS). The only thing that they seemed interested in was selling me a new pair of glasses. I explained that I was suffering from: - Pain behind my eye and on moving my eye. - What I referred to as 'Flashes' when moving my eye under bright light. - Loss of vision. - Lack of vision (as opposed to blurriness). While waiting the two days for my appointment to get fitted for glasses (totally un-neccessary) I lost all vision in my right eye. I made an emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist and went from there. 7 months later, this is now back to about 60% vision which is permanent damage. Had I been diagnosed earlier, a dose of intravenous steroids might have mitigated this. An optician is supposed to be the 'front line' in addressing more serious eye problems. That's why you pay them for the eye exam. The Glen Ellyn Vision Center totally missed something that is a relatively frequent occurrence. read more

I don't like posting one star reviews as I previously received a rude message from a business owner. So here goes... 1) They do not bill your vision insurance for the exam. They only bill the medical insurance. When I questioned the policy they said it depends how the doctor codes it. If the doctor said there is a medical diagnosis then they bill medical. My husband, son, and I have always been billed to medical insurance with no explanation about the diagnosis. 2) When I initially called this place I was told they had accommodating hours. I explained that my schedule is difficult. I have a son, and my husband works nights and weekends. I cannot afford to find a babysitter for appointments. They have said they can work with me on scheduling. I did not find them accommodating in this way. Apparently if I did not work during the day, it would be much easier. 3) On the past two exams, I sign the form saying I decline the additional tests that result in an extra fee. Both exams, the doctor performed a test that was not covered by my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket. 4) I brought in my old pair of glasses for them to examine. They wanted to check the old prescription, even though I brought in the paper prescription. The woman melted the lens on my glasses. She blamed my "cheap" glasses. After I expressed my anger, she offered to order me a new lens for free. read more

Well, this is the end of the review saga. I really wanted contact lenses, but in the end they just didn't work for me. Doc and staff worked very patiently with me as I tried multiple lenses. I was disappointed - my eyes just didn't adjust to the lenses, but I got really cool and elegant glasses. Finally, my eyes were dancing with joy - I can see! Thank you, everyone, for your patience, courtesy, and caring about my vision and helping me to make the right choices for my eyesight. YOU ROCK!!!! My glasses were ready in just a few days!!!! I've been a patient here for years with little trouble, but have become fed up with the refusal to bill my vision insurance rather than my medical insurance, leaving me with out-of-pocket costs that I could have avoided if this office employed proper, non-shady billing procedures. I can't tell you how bad this place is. It is just a money center for the owner. They just charged my wife the full price for her glasses when she had paid half at the time she ordered them. They tried to do the same thing to me. Also, the first pair of glasses I ordered a higher end pair. I knew something was wrong but I was new to glasses and didn't know what. I found out they had not measured the distance for the center of the eyes correctly. They confirmed this when I bought my next pair. They said I should have come back in and said something. The funny thing is I did. They just acted like I would get used to them and don't worry about it. They did not remeasure or check anything. I am a long time Glen Ellyn Resident and like to support Glen Ellyn stores. However, in this case just stay away. read more

I wish there was a negative star. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. I went into this vision center and told them up front that i wanted contacts. they went through all the tests; prescribed me contacts that they didn't have in stock so i had to come in a week later. put the contacts on and they were not right, i couldn't see. they tole me to give them a week and see how it goes. i couldn't even wear them for a day. i went back in and they gave me another pair; still not right, gave me another pair, still not right. They have no idea what they are doing. While i was there for the first time i paid $300.00 for this exam which i feel was way over priced. Then when i decided they could not get my prescription right i gave up on them. i ended up walking away with no vision and out $300.00. then a week or two later i received a bill for $300.00; i figured they had bad book keeping and didn't record my payment. Nope not at all. they were charging me another $300.00 because insurance wasn't covering for additional costs. After many conversations; the bottom line is that they are trying to charge me $600.00 for an eye exam and getting nothing else. Stay far away from this place. find another place to go. read more

Dr was knowledgable, but after being told I was going to be charged and ADDITIONAL $249 out of pocket for a "contact lens fitting fee" (on top of the $189 exam fee charged to insurances and $54 corneal exam out of pocket for contacts) or $169 out of pocket for just a pair of single vision lenses I said no thank you. That's just not an affordable option for a single mother of 3!! I've been told that those walls of trial lenses in the offices are given by the contact companies and now this office is going to CHARGE me $169/$249 for ONE SINGLE PAIR??? I can get a years worth of contacts for that price!!! As others posted, my medical insurance was charged for my eye exam, most likely due to the outrageous cost for an exam. Plus, I had to pay a $54 fee for a corneal exam, which, of course, was an absolute waste of money because I never did receive a pair of contacts, which is the ONLY reason I went there in the first place. So, now my eye exam benefit for the year is used, I do have a new eyeglasses prescription, which I don't need, but if I want to go somewhere else to get contacts I have to pay for a whole new exam. What a complete rip-off! I went into the office and told them that I was not able to pay that fee to get a pair of "trial lenses" (which, by the way, I've been wearing contacts for over 15 years!) and they were completely neutral. Could care less, actually. I asked them to let the dr know that I was dissatisfied and that was well over a month ago. How unfortunate.... Sadly, I work in the medical field and this is a small community..... word of mouth is important around here and I meet a lot of new people every day and I don't have anything positive to say about my experience. read more

I have been going to the Glen Ellyn Vision Center for nearly 20 years. The first time I visited Dr Martin Sikorski helped me. From that first day I was impressed with the knowledge, care and friendliness of the entire staff. It is always a pleasure seeing Dr. Cheryl Sikorski Myers. I can always trust my eye care is in good hands with Dr. Myers. Any questions I have are answered. I will continue to go there. I see other reviews on this site saying something to the effect that their vision insurance is not being billed. My vision insurance gets billed. Lenses are the most expensive item out of any eyewear. My eyes are very sensitive to the sun. Thus I am required to wear a deep mirror coated lens on my sunglasses that is not available just anywhere . Lenscrafters nor any of the franchises offer that kind of a lens. My recent visit with GEVC I asked Dr. Myers if they can get a clip on that will save me the expense of pair of sunglasses as insurance only cover one pair of glasses per year. The answer was yes. Because of my special needs I was able to save hundreds of dollars. Insurance companies need to do a better job covering the price of lenses, special needs in whole whether it be the coating or the type of lens itself. read more

Prior to making my appointment, I was laid off and had no vision insurance, so I had been wearing 'old' contacts. As soon as I had vision insurance, I made my appointment at Glen Ellyn Vision Center. There they provided me with the best experience possible for having an eye exam. At their office, I never felt ashamed for the fact I had been wearing outdated contacts, and that I had neglected my eyes for two years. The exam was more thorough than an other eye exam I have ever had in the past 20 years. My weight, blood pressure, and other tests were performed in a private room prior to me entering the actual room where the eye exam was given. The staff was beyond helpful with picking out new frames and took their time with me until I decided on the perfect pair. My appointment was on a Tuesday, and by that Friday I received a call that my new contacts and glasses were ready to be picked up (that's only 3 business days)! I could not believe the fast turn around time. When picking up my glasses, the staff was once again very welcoming. They made sure that the glasses felt right on my face and were quick to offer making any adjustments that might make them more comfortable. Thankfully, the glasses were perfect just the way they were. I would highly recommend Glen Ellyn Vision Center to anyone who wants to be treated as family rather than just another customer. read more

I would agree with others on this site who have referred to their billing practices. I have never heard of an eye care business doing this before, and when I compared notes with another eye care provide in the area who is very reputable, they were suspicious about that billing practice. I suspect they get a higher payment/reimbursement from a medical claim than vision care services and that is their reason for doing so. How they get away with it is beyond me. That is my first complaint. My second one is that the doctors take zero personal interest in their patients. We have been going there for several years and we are still treated like strangers. I have never found them to be customer service oriented other than when they are working towards a product sale. read more

I did not have a good experience. All of the office people/techs (that do the small tests to check your eyes) were rude, and unprofessional, none of them introduced themselves. The woman that was helping with glasses and contacts argued with the doctor about billing my insurance company WHEN I WAS WITHIN EARSHOT, i was literally 2 feet away and I could hear them arguing. I did not like this place due to the horrible customer service. The Dr. was nice enough but I cannot say the same for the staff. read more

STAY AWAY!! this place has absolutely the most horrific customer service we've ever experienced. If you're not dressed to show you have money, don't bother talking to the receptionists. We decided to try this place out because it was so close to home. We came in for a routine eye exam and contacts, but because we were a young couple, we were treated so poorly! After waiting almost an HOUR (when my husband was the only patient there on a Saturday morning) he was finally taken back for his exam. While I was waiting, I asked the usual questions about what's included in my VSP. They seemed to be extremely annoyed I was interrupting their online shopping spree to answer my questions - just to reaffirm that everything was covered. Exam and contact fitting took 2 hours. We finally get to check out and they had me a bill for over $200!!! NO ONE informed us of the contact fitting charge PER CONTACT he had to try. They also try and coax you into getting all these extra exams that cost hundreds of dollars while you're in with the doctor. and from reading the other reviews, this place sounds like it's just trying to nickel and dime you for everything they possibly can. I've been to many other eye doctors where they take care of the patient and put them first. this place should be reported to the BBB for shady practices and be shut down. read more
