Went on a tour led by the president ans superintendent of the newly refurbished wonderful college. Huge buildings and all state of the art. Loved touring the Giant 5 story Science Building!!! Each floor focused on one type of science and had multiple labs running on each floor. Hands on science happening and students actually doing experiments and writing research papers and publishing them. Cutting edge changes all over the campus and the new planetarium is fantastic. Free shows Wednesdays at 12:30 for any one. Classes must be on campus for the show to be on. Run by a superb woman with a PHd in Astronomy so she can really show you stuff and answer all your questions! Been now 4 times and each time.saw a different show! So awesome. Everywhere you turn are new buildings and soon they will be offering 4 year degrees! So I think the name should change to Glendale University..the cutting edge things coming also are amazing AI lab. I attended GCC for two years before transferring to a Cal State and had a wonderful experience here. The campus is beautiful, and the facilities for the (most part) are updated. A few key points: Parking - There is not much free residential parking nearby, so a parking pass is a must in my opinion. If you arrive early and depending on which lot you choose, you should have no problem finding parking. Those who complain about parking are usually the people who go to the smallest lot 30 minutes before class starts and expect to find a spot. Faculty - As with every school, professors can be a hit or miss, but that is what RateMyProfessor is for. In my experience, the majority of the professors I've had have been wonderful. The administration was nice for the most part, but they could have been a little better. Food - GCC has a cafeteria, sandwich shop, smoothie bar, a convenience store, and two coffee shops. There is also a Coffee Bean, Flame Broiler, Great White Hut, and a pizza place right across the street. Of course, these are all not the healthiest options, but they're still something. I enjoyed going to the cafeteria and the sandwich shop because the food was good and the staff there is the friendliest from all of campus. Registration - There are many opportunities for students to get priority registration. Depending on the class, there are multiple sections, especially for the common GE's. Most semesters I was able to register for classes and be done by 12:30 pm each day, with no Friday classes. Involvement - There are a plethora of clubs on campus. The student-run AS is incredibly involved and always tries to put on fun and engaging events. If you don't see a club you like, make one! They're a great way to make friends and learn gain some leadership skills if you run for a cabinet position. One word of advice I would give is to try and not rent/buy your books from the campus bookstore. They try to sell you higher priced "custom editions" of certain textbooks, but they are no different than the regular textbook that you could find online for much cheaper. GCC is an incredible community college and I would highly recommend it. read more

The location and the school from the outside seems great. However, if you are a high school student, specifically a STEM major, consider other options. Other community colleges and even universities provide more organized and straightforward classes. The biology and chemistry courses here are especially difficult and can get very overwhelming. From my experience, there needs to be a restructuring of the curriculum and instructors. Very inconsiderate and not very lenient with students. Save yourself some time and attend a different institution, if possible. read more

Can't really complain about a community college. Not everything is going to be perfect but it does definitely stand out from other competing community colleges. GCC is known to have one of the highest transfer rates in California. It also has a successful nursing program and several certification programs for professionals wanting to get into accounting, medical practice, computer programming, and so forth. I've taken a few courses here and appreciate how large this campus is. I wish it would work on its renovation. I took a course recently for a prerequisite and we were shacked up in one of the bungalows during the summer with carpets stinking from the mildew and sweat from years ago, old, dirty desks and a half-functioning air conditioner. One thing I can appreciate is that this campus serves Starbucks coffee, has a Coffee Bean across the bridge, as well as other cafes for a quick snack or lunch break. Parking, I've heard, is pretty terrible during the regular school year. I've only taken courses here during the summer and it cost be $45 for a summer parking pass. It's so, so much cheaper at Los Angeles District community colleges, it's not even funny. If money is an issue, consider Los Angeles Mission or Los Angeles Valley College. There are a few pros and cons here, but in general, the courses and professors here are very competent. The area is very, very nice and a walking distance away from other shops, gas stations and grocery stores among the residential areas. read more

I was bullied by professor Attyah ( art department)I tried to file a complaint against the professor in question, without any luck. GCC refused to Look into the matter because I was student. They file a fasly complaint against the police on me. The police believe the college & mr. Attyah because of who they are. It , sickness that a college & a professor can bully a student because of who they are & are free to do so. While the student seems to be over looked on this due to the fact the person is a student. Excellent community college that provides students with every opportunity to succeed. I studied biology and transferred to a state university and I can say the quality of education I received in the biology division was the same if not better than the education I received in university. There are so many opportunities for every major and professors in my department were extremely helpful in teaching students about careers and opportunities in biology. So far the college has been decent. I've taken about a year and a half worth of classes, and so far only a handful of my teachers have really gone on my nerves. Anyways, aside from speaking about my teachers... I have had no trouble getting any of the classes I need, usually the first few days of class have been hectic due to a large amount of students being present. After the first week everyone drops the class, and the student per classroom ratio is good. The College itself is pretty clean, and has a good amount of staff that covers each section of the school. If you need counseling, then you can either going by appointment or walk-in. Both are pretty good and you really get a good amount of attention. One thing I'm not a big fan of with this college is the fact that their services, such as: the bookstore, the library, coffee shops, sometimes do close early, or don't open at all. When that isn't the problem, the fact that they close so early also doesn't help some people who only have time after 5 or so to go study, or buy material, or books. But again, the staff is wonderful, I just wish they would extend their hours.. Lastly, the only thing I would complain about is having some of the professors more monitored to see the subject they choose to use for all their assignments. By that I mean that if an English professor is very liberal and does not like a specific congressman, the professor should not be able to base their teaching and/or assignments on that hate towards that specific subject/person. The professor should not be able to tell the students to write so many essays based on "why we think (I.e) that certain congressman is a douchebag or is doing a horrible job," because in the end some of our views might not match to what that certain professor believes in, and as students we shouldn't have to "fit the teachers mold" just to receive a good grade. read more

I'd like to mention a few things: -smoking is completely banned on campus: including vapes. If you smoke, you will get a ticket. Don't complain. -it's a community college: Parking is going to be a problem. GCC has 5 different parking spots rather than the building in the back of the school. It's not anyone's fault you don't find parking because you don't feel like walking a distance, and camp for spots at the structure. -if you got an 'F' in a class, then you didn't study, cheated, or just have bad luck. Most of the time, you're at fault. Check out the cafeteria during the mornings. They have a mean breakfast burrito! Enroll in a PE class and make use of the gym! It has an electronic rock climbing wall. Join a club, and be active! You can get scholarships every semester and year. Last semester, I had enough scholarships that let me get almost 4 figures of cash. Join ASGCC. They hold petitions and campaigning at the end of every semester. The structure is full by 9 am. Leaving you no other option other than to wait or park down the street away from the campus. Ive also been hit there before. Must give yourself a lot of time before class to find parking. 2. Aside from the parking, I love the location of the campus. It is away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Glendale. So it's really hard to write a "review" for a school since each individual experience is totally different, but I'll try to do it justice. Academics As with any school, there are the easy classes that you just need to get rid of some GEs, and there are more difficult classes. Although I am not a STEM major, I have heard time and time again that GCC's biology, chemistry, and engineering courses are significantly tougher than the 4 year schools. They really make you work for it and by the time you get to a uni, you are used to the workload and difficulty level. My best friend from UCLA was with me on campus one day, dropping by classrooms and taking peeks in lecture halls, and confirmed that the GCC classes were not to be dismissed. The RateMyProfessor page for teachers are generally accurate in my experience. I have always gotten the classes I needed. Even if a class is full, waitlist! People WILL drop! Student Services Although I have never had a huge problem with either Admissions & Records or Financial Aid, I have heard complaints about each department all the time. They are both one of the most important departments in a college campus, and always seem to be understaffed (only 2 people at the windows) and not helpful. It is a game of wild goose chase: one department tells you to go to another department which tells you to go to another department which directs you to a different department etc etc. At least they are all on one floor of the new building -- they used to be all on different sides of campus. On the other hand, I have had a terrible experience with counseling. They really do need to clean up their act. The Dean of Student Services, Dr. Robert Hill, is an amazing man and the counselors could perhaps borrow some of his good energy for the work day. If you are looking to transfer, go to the Transfer Center! All of the counselors there are great, ESPECIALLY Kevin Meza -- THE BEST!!!! He know his stuff! Campus Itself The campus itself is located on a mountainside, so it is not smooth and flat. Lots of stairs (great workout!) and elevators. However, it does offer a beautiful view of the mountains on one side and Downtown on the other side. There is nice green grass, pretty trees, and lots of surrounding vegetation. Across from the campus is Verdugo Park which is a mostly quiet, peaceful place. I sometimes went there to do homework and relax between classes. Unfortunately, because it is located away from the main part of Glendale, there is not much to do/places to eat. Across the bridge/street there is a Flame Broiler, Rocky's Pizza, Coffee Bean, and Great White Hut. Anything else, and you need to drive/use the bus. Down Glendale Ave there are more options such as Fish King, IHOP, Panda Express (located inside the Vons), and a couple other food joints. But for the most part, not a lot of options. However, GCC has a great cafeteria. They serve breakfast and lunch. Their breakfast burritos are amazing! You have to try it! I know they have a breakfast combo (eggs, pancakes, bacon) and other breakfast items, but I stuck to the breakfast burritos LOL They serve good food at lunch as well - their fries are great and really fill you up. There is an upstairs and downstairs -- the upstairs closes earlier than the downstairs. Parking So people are constantly complaining about parking. I have to say, I've never really had to deal with it -- maybe once. Throughout my time there, I generally took early morning classes starting 7 and 7:35 and there was an ample amount of parking. However, everyone takes the 9:10 and 10:35 classes and tries to get a spot in the parking structure which is why it gets so packed so fast. But people -- there are other parking lots!!! The school literally sends out an email mapping the other parking lots you can park in. My last semester I took the 9:10 and 10:35 classes and at first I came at 8-8:15 just to find parking. However, I started getting up later and later as the semester went on (as we all do), and just skipped the structure all together to park in the lots. It's a nice little 4-5 minute walk that wakes you up and gets you some exercise. Plus, you don't have to deal with all of the twists and turns and crazy drivers in the structure. Overall I have to say I really liked GCC. I admit, I came in with a sour attitude since I didn't get to go to my 4-year choice as it was too expensive. I was definitely embarrassed and ashamed. However, I can honestly say that I don't regret GCC. There are so many resources here that help you grow and thrive if you just do a little research and use them. I don't mean to sound cheesy, but try to get involved, network, and contribute. Great campus with amazing opportunities! read more

Stay away from this school at ALL COSTS. The staff will do everything in their power to make sure you stay at GCC and don't transfer. They don't answer emails, give wrong advice, don't keep you on track and don't help AT ALL. What are they there for? Not to mention the horrendous professors. Let me get started. SERIOUSLY? There will be 30 students failing in one class and they will still keep that professor, despite the hundreds of horrible reviews by students. This school's staff and financial aid department are helpless. No one helps you or informs you what is the best decision in your situation. No one replies back to emails and no one informs you about your application status. This is the third time I am having an issues with financial aid department and no one seems to help or to tell me how to appeal my application. I called the school they told me totally different thing, I did everything to gather all the documents for my application and then I was told that I was denied for my application a month ago and was never informed about it. I am very disheartened and appalled with how I've been made out to be a villain by this awful organization. I was a student here in 2014 in the emt program. Two months into the program, I had 100% in the course. I was proud of myself because I had come so far. I was a single mother of 2 wonderful kids and I was finally back at school working toward my lucrative career with the fire department. I was in the best shape of my life and ready for a lifetime commitment to not only do what I needed to build my life with my children, but also finish what I started. In 2008, I was enrolled in elective courses to begin my journey when I found out I was pregnant and set to be a single mother. Money was more important than said classes, so I attempted to withdraw, but I missed the date. I ended up receiving a D, an F and a W. These classes were jewelry, ceramics and drawing which had no part in my future degrees. I enrolled back in 2014 when I could afford child care and took the emt program with Rick Hayne. 2 months after I started the program which I had 100% in, my professor grabbed me and kissed me without my consent on my way out of the classroom; to which he doesn't deny doing. He said later that it was my smile, my appearance and the way I carried myself that made him think he could do so. Because no one saw what happened, I was scared and felt I had to give in to his demands in order to continue in this course. He proceeded to leave candy on my desk and only mine. He created resentment from students by doing so and provided me with unsolicited test questions and answers prior to testing and after the program completed, he told me that fire wouldn't take a second look at me and I believed him. I have mixed feelings about this college. Some of the instruction I've received has been good, some not so great. But my biggest beef (& what prompted the lower score) is the overall way that registration & things are handled at this school. First off, they seem to be VERY focused on people who don't have to work for a living. Most of their classes are offered in the morning or the middle of the day, with very few offered in the evening. It even extends into registering for classes, or getting your student ID. I wasn't able to get my ID for 3 months into the semester, simply because they had no hours available past 3:30p. The same is true of counselors. I tried to sign up online for a session with a counselor (looking to make something for two weeks out), but nothing seemed available. When I called to make an appointment over the phone, I was told they were currently only taking drop-ins, but they "might" be able to take appointments in a day or two. So what, I'm just supposed to check back every day? For those of us who are trying to either get continuing education, or obtain new skills for a new position, we NEED to be able to take classes in the evening. It's VERY frustrating. read more

We just received a parking ticket in the mail and we have never been anywhere near this college. In fact we live over 2 hours away. On the day in question we were at our places of employment. When calling to speak to an officer regarding this we were told to fill out a form online. Here were are taking time out of our day and requesting documentation from our employers to verify we were at our places of employment and no where near this college. read more

The registrar here blows more than Hurricane Katrina. Seriously, the admissions and records people are the most inefficient workers in the history of community colleges. There was a line of approximately 10 people and more than half of the staff is youtubing and laughing their asses away. Do your job from 9-5pm and feel free to laugh it up at 5:01pm. Damnit the vision of them laughing and giggling while we all stayed lifeless in line will be forever etched in my head as the most fucked up admissions staff of the decade. Who hires these people? Don't you think you might want to be a friendly person if you decide to apply for a customer service line of work? Put a smile on your face please. And also, can someone explain why it takes 24 hours to be able to find a transcript before the additional 10 days to send it out? How many you tube videos can you fit in that time period? Damnit! In college, I was on the 12 year program. I started GCC in 1999 and just kind of floated around for 5 years until eventually dropping out. I don't care what you say, I heart GCC. If I ever decide to go back to school for real, you can bet your sweet ass, it will be back to GCC! I love the campus. The professors were pretty great also. Especially Mike "hot piece of ass" Reed... he's the Social Geography professor. It made getting up at 6am Monday through Friday during the summer extremely bareable. GCC gets a bad rap. Maybe it's the overabundance of Chanel-toting, Armani-flossing students. Maybe it's because the campus always reeks of cigarette smoke. Maybe it's because it doesn't nearly have the amenities, the quality of education, or the high regard as other nearby community colleges, namely the nearby Pasadena City College. But dammit, it's convenient, especially if you live in the La Canada-Glendale-Eagle Rock area. I went here for two years and I had my ups and downs. Classes are relatively easy to register, even if you don't have prime priority registration. The campus is on a hill; very pretty but a true bitch to get around, so you're going to have to walk up heinous numbers of stairs which I'm sure sounds truly exciting. There is nothing nutritionally sustainable to eat on campus, but there is a Coffee Bean, a Quizno's, and an Armenian BBQ Chicken place right across the street on Verdugo Rd. If that doesn't tantalize you, you can always take your car and drive a few minutes to central Glendale. Going to community college is one of the smartest things you can do right out of high school, especially if you weren't too smart in high school. Here, you can pay a fabulous price of $20 a unit (there is financial aid available as well), and get your lower division units done at a fraction of the cost. Plus, there is something nifty called Transfer Admission Guarantee, where if you fulfill certain class requirements and keep your GPA at a steady level, you are guaranteed acceptance to some UC's and Cal States. Sweet deal. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be. There is no social life here, so you can spend your time in the library studying diligently to get good grades. Then two years later, you can go to UCLA! Ha! Good luck with that! read more

This is a great school. I attended from 2004-2006. I transferred over to UC Berkeley afterwards - but had gotten into both USC AND UCLA. It had it's drawbacks then too but overall, the school is EXTREMELY helpful if you want to go to a top tier 4 year university but don't get in straight out of high school. I went straight here after high school and was pretty depressed about it since I hadn't gotten into UCLA (the school i really really wanted to go to- or so i thought). I didn't do their "honors" program at the time and just decided to take it one step at a time. I kept in tight communications with the UC counselors and made sure I fit in ALL my requirements for transferring. Yes, parking was horrible. In my time we didn't even have the upper parking structure - it was just one level of parking. We used to "cruise" the civic building asking ppl if they needed a ride to their cars in order to take their spots... Once in a while i was forced to leave school and miss class because parking was so bad lol - ahhh those were the days. I did well in my classes - classes here are harder than many of the cal states u better believe it! I attended some classes at certain cal states and was surprised. Also, the UCs LOVE GCC, likely because students are ready to succeed at the college level after attending here. In my two years I did have to work hard, I had a full day time schedule, I took night classes AND i took one class at PCC to be able to finish on time. (PCC by the way was awful... NOT nearly as picturesque and calm as GCC, and super ghetto in my opinion). When I applied for transfer I got into every single school I applied to. Surprisingly I opted to go to UCB instead of UCLA. Great decision on my part and best decision of my life actually. Now I've graduated law school in the LA area and am a new attorney. If they were doing inspirational talks at GCC I'd definitely love to give one because this school gave me ALL THE TOOLS I needed to succeed and helped me do it. [I loved going back during BAR prep and studying in the library] People may complain about the varying types of people who go here - but its a community college. If you spend your time playing cards or trying to find a place to smoke then I feel sorry for you and GCC will not likely be a good experience for you. However, I met lifelong friends here, enjoyed coffee and met the sons of more than 1 armenian mom ;) (that was great) , and on top of it all it saved me a LOT of money - 2 years of tuition! I don't recommend 18 year olds moving out of their homes to go to college - I saw them, most of them are too stupid to handle it - but going to GCC let's you grow up a bit and realize there's a big world out there. I would never go anywhere else, I am very happy with my decision to not go straight to a CalState or UC, rather save money and get a good education, and still transfer out within the 2 year time frame, might I add GCC has a very high rate of transfer students! There seems to be a perception about this college that is far from it. Out of highschool people were mocking the institution...but like you can read in the other reviews as well...that all quickly changed once they realized it is a formitable instituion with the highest of rankings in California. The best office to call for ANY concern is called the SOS (Student Outreach Services) honestly they are the fastest, and always have an answer, and if they dont...they know who does and will point you in the right direction! September 28 around 4pm I went here to pick up my girlfriend who just finished class. I pulled up to the side of the parking structure, and in less than 5 mins, three professors ganged up on me. One professor banged my windows and basically theathened me from the start. She saud I should gtfo of her parking structure or she'll give me a citation, even though she wasn't a cop. She then left and proceeded to take pictures of me and my car. It was really silly. Come on lady, don't act like you're some kind of vigilante and please don't use the cops' name for your sick power trip. After 5 seconds of her leaving, another professor came and was raging came at me and said I was blocking her driveway. Which was pretty silly because the driveway was big enough for two cars and I pulled over to the side. She kept raging on and on about her problems with me pulling over to the side and finally my girlfriend came and I drove out normally. All of these happened within 5 mins of me getting there. That was one of the weirdest/silliest thigs that happened in my life. I wasn't even a student at GCC so I wonder what kind of sh*t these students take from these kinds professors. They didn't even talked to me nicely, they just threathened, harassed, and shouted at me even though I was talking to them calmly the whole time and I never said a mean word. I think it's because I was on my gym clothes and I look really young for my age so they figured I was a student, but I'm not. If I was in my regular work suit I bet they would've treated me much differently. It was very unprofessional conduct for these so-called professors. I really feel bad for their students. read more
