It's about a 5-6 minute drive from I-10 on 2 lane country roads. On the way you drive right past another well known and popular restaurant called Poche's (a good place to eat too) but keep going for about 1 more minute. Glenda's Creole Kitchen is on the side of the road in an old small house. Don't worry you'll see it because there's a sign out front. Pull into the little parking area under the trees and go in. There you'll enter a small dining room/steam table area and you'll see Ms. Glenda usually with one or two helpers. She usually offers 3-4 meats and about the same number of vegetables to offer all on the same plate. Drink options are tea, lemonade and I think they offer canned soft drinks. Sit down at one of the tables and dig in. You'll remember this meal as the one that made you smile while eating it. Last week I was able to visit for the first time in about 3 years as I don't pass through here as often as in the past. I got their last stuffed Turkey wing so they added a smothered pork chop to make up for the other missing wing. I chose corn and smothered potatoes for the sides and with some homemade lemonade and tax it was $14 even. Like as in past visits, I felt happiness and content eating the food on my plate. The meats were so tender and flavorful along with the veggies being tasty too. The smothered potatoes had a little kick to them that surprised me. While it was different, I liked it. Finally the wing and chop sat on a bed of white rice and the gravy from the meats. South Louisiana is rice country and true Cajun chefs like Ms. Glenda know how important great rice and gravy is. Honestly, I would be happy with a meal of just her rice and gravy. Man, that was some fine eating! This is the definition of the term "comfort food". Yes, it's a hole in the wall type of restaurant but the food is the real star here. They have a drive thru window because many of the locals come to get their food to go and drive back to their own homes to eat it. Those out-of-towners that are lucky enough to be in the know (like me and now you) come here too. Pay attention to their hours as they are only open for lunch and the dining room closes at 1 pm where the drive thru closes at 2 pm. Call their telephone number to get the recorded info on that days menu. I've been coming here for over 10 years now. Don't be fooled by the low number of Yelp reviews for this restaurant as I don't believe there are many Yelpers in Breaux Bridge, LA. Do believe the current 4.5 star average. Eating at restaurants like this are like stepping back in time to a world that doesn't exist much more so get off the interstate and drive 6 minutes to get here and slow your life down and relax for a few minutes and have a delicious lunch. read more

My siblings and I had lunch there today. Two had turkey wings in gravy with green beans, potato salad and rice. Two of us had okra with shrimp, potato salad, green beans and rice. I also had a 1/2 order of catfish coubillion. Everything was delicious. Service was as expected. The restaurant is small and not at all fancy, we went for the food, not the ambiance. We are always looking to support this type of restaurant, especially during Black History Month. We will keep this restaurant in our rotation, for sure. read more

So glad we stopped here for lunch - we were wanting authentic Cajun home cooking, and it was so so good! We saw Anthony Bourdain had featured Glenda's Kitchen in 2011 for the Cajun Country episode and we understand why he picked this restaurant. It is a "hole in the wall" type of place, but we wanted authentic! We had very flavorful, seasoned rice and gravy brisket and pork with sides. Miss Glenda sat and talked with us for awhile and she is the real deal. They are open everyday - dine in until 1 pm and drive thru until 2 pm. I'm going to play class selection wasn't to my liking. So I ended up picking up some apple bread pudding. One serving came with rum sauce and the other serving came with a caramel sauce. My in-law and I found this wonderful family gem of a place for some comfort foods. Best places to be. Even though its a small spot, we love every bit of it. Everyone was friendly and the foods are delish. Don't get this pregnant girl started on the cakes and cookies. It was PERFECT. It was just the right amount of sweet. Stopped here for lunch on the trip from Dallas to Baton Rouge. This place is the epitome of the Louisiana small intimate family restaurant. Food is outstanding, portions are large. It doesn't get any real-er than this, at least not in the United States. The very humble Glenda's Creole Kitchen is one of a dying breed: the totally down-home, old-school, almost-entirely-scratch-made, hot-lunch joint. Given the low price range and the intended audience, such places have almost been completely killed off, primarily by Fast Food America, but even by independent dining establishments churning out largely undistinguished processed fare thanks to Sysco, ARAMARK, etc. At Glenda's, you can taste the real-ness. And it's a very good taste. That's the main reason for the five-star rating; you can't get by on authentic atmosphere alone. We got the pork roast, which came in a massive serving and was tender and bold and well-seasoned. It was served atop a second massive serving of cornbread and rice dressing. The latter was what most of us out here outside of southern Louisiana consider to be "dirty rice," and it was the best I've ever had. There were also sides of yams (great) and potato salad (very yellow-mustardy and only pretty good). Eight bucks for what felt like about five pounds of food. Although Glenda's is in located in the heart of Cajun Country, I thought this fare was pretty much straight soul food with some Creole and Cajun influences. Glenda's feels like it's way out in the country, but it is in fact only a 3 or 4 minute drive from the Breaux Bridge I-10 exit, and only a few stone's throws down the road from the better-known and much bigger Poche's Market. It occupies part of a modest whilte clapboard house, and its cramped dining area is not much bigger than a lot of people's living rooms. It's crammed with the steamer table, counter, and three eight-top folding tables for communtiy-style dining, plus a couple of smaller tables. Food is served in styrofoam containers whether you're taking out or dining in. Ms. Glenda and her family, and the local folks coming in and out her place, were about as friendly a thirty-minute sample of Americans as you're likely to encounter anywhere. N.B. The only drawback of a place like Glenda's is that just about every last one of them, if culinarily worthwhile, eventually gets profiled by travelling TV dining impresarios who are always looking for the real deal and, by televising such real-ness, ironically leach just a little of the real-ness away. I must sheepishly disclose that I learned about Glenda's from catching G. Garvin's show on the Cooking Channel. As it turns out, Bourdain himself did a feature on this place as well. Thanks so much to Anthony Bourdian and The Travel Channel for finding this place or I would have never taste real Creole cooking. It is a out of the way to get to but it is so worth the drive. I ordered the smothered Pork Steak rice, green beans, and Cajun Potato salad. Love it all but can't believe I'm saying this but the Cajun Potato Salad was the stand out. With a perfect punch of both spicy and sweat from any Potato salad. A step up to what I was brought up with. And need to add their Strawberry Lemonade is so good please don't order sodas here, get their tea, Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade when eating Glenda's Creole Cajun Cooking. The staff are so friendly and takes the time to explain each daily entree. This is a real cooking and talk about homely, Glenda's doesn't get more homely than here. Good 9/10 Service 10/10 read more

First time here, was on my way from east to west with I10, stopped by the beaux area to gas up & found this place on yelp. I arrived on saturday so I missed the stuffed turkey wings. But the portion of food is huge, I ate til full for lunch and still have enough leftover for dinner. Staffs are very friendly and nice, if you drive thru after 12 or its a bad raining day, they will kindly throw in extra meats for you. Had meatloaf combo (only thing avail on saturday beside the regular all-week stuffs). I know nothing abt creole style or louisiana style food so I'll just give review based on my taste buds. Best corn I've ever had, tasty meatloaf, rice and beans is nice too, just a bit greasy, everything had a decent spicy kick to it. 10$ for combo + a soda, not bad at all, I'll definately stop by next time I'm around to try their cajun dishes. read more

Ah What a sweetheart this lady is!!! We came by about 10 minutes before closing time, but like Glenda the good witch of the north, Glenda in northern Breaux Bridge takes in the hungry to feed them in her little converted house. We saw this place on No Reservations along with a couple other places which inspired us to travel to Louisiana. If you want a home cooked meal in Louisiana, but don't know anyone who will cook it for you, stop on by at Glenda's where she will show you that she's what food down here's all about. She serves different things on different days and when you talk to her, you realize that she's just a lady who makes food. And she's way fun about it. She's humble about the whole Anthony Bourdain thing but she does have a map up to show where people have come from to eat in her little house. And that map is covered with people from all over the world. My only gripe is that she doesn't have much in terms of beverages. Now I may be ignorant to something here, but I would have loved to have a good quality Iced tea there but it was the powdered stuff. Same thing with some other drink we had... I didn't even know what it was. And Glenda, I love you but don't bake. The fig turn over was dry. It wasn't good. But nonetheless, keep up the good work! Very friendly, low key place for a meal. We stopped by on a weekday around 11, and we split a plate with stuffed fried chicken and smothered ribs. 3.5 stars. The best part about Glenda's Creole Kitchen is that you truly do feel like you're eating in Glenda's kitchen. The restaurant could easily be mistaken for a house in the countryside - so don't worry as you pass by houses on your drive over! The interior is all cafeteria style. Place your order, sit down at a communal table (don't be shy about sitting next to strangers), and pay when you're done eating. It's a true hole-in-the-wall experience. Because of the food, however, I have to round down to 3 stars. We had the smothered okra but I actually wish the food were more spiced and I wish I could've tasted the shrimp more. Maybe I was expecting more punch from Creole food, but the dish almost tasted bland. $10 gets you a solid plate of food, a slice of Wonder bread, and a side of potato salad, which is relatively inexpensive compared to most Cajun/Creole places in the area. Still, I found that the meal just lacked that special something I've come to expect from Creole food. Glenda's is definitely a neat place to go for home-style cooking in a simple atmosphere. Beyond that, there's nothing too spectacular about it - though I suppose this isn't a bad thing. "Spectacular" is hardly the idea they are going for, and that works just fine. Glenda is awesome as is her daughter. So friendly. They chatted the whole time we were eating. They should get five stars. The food was very plain. I wanted to add salt but felt inhibited to do so with her watching us eat. The stuffed turkey had nice flavor, but the black eyed beans and the smothered pork chop were in desperate need of some sort of seasoning. The other side was a salad, which was basically a few iceberg leaves and a little package of dressing. The homemade lemonades were refreshing. We stopped by Glenda's on our way home from vacation. I wanted to stop based on the rave yelp reviews and the Anthony Bourdain recommendation. First the good. I had the stuffed pork roast with rice stuffing, potato salad and the pork and beans. The stuffed pork and rice stuffing was really tasty and just the right amount of spicy. The potato salad was really good and unique too. I had never had anything like it. The pork and beans were out of a can so just blah. The service was prompt and friendly. Prices were good too. Now for the bad. The place is filthy. There were several large dead roaches on the floor near the bathroom. And more in the bathroom. The bathroom was pretty gross too. There is also a bunch of crap piled up and stored in the hallway. So in conclusion the food was okay, but the roaches and filth will keep me from coming back. read more

After stopping at Lake Martin to check out the swamp area there, I went with the day trip recommendation of Glenda's Creole Kitchen. The place looks like a small home so I initially drove past it before making a u-turn to return there. Glenda's was featured on the travel channel so I was definitely curious to check it out. The interior is a bit divey but Glenda and her daugther were both very friendly when I walked in right after 1pm. They were wrapping up on helping another customer and also there were a few folks in the drive thru picking up orders. Glenda was very nice and apologetic to me since she was pretty much out of the meatloaf that I initially was looking to order. I was almost tempted to grab a dessert (looked like there were lemon cakes and maybe pumpkin pie) but passed. She offered up a serving of fried pork chops, a small piece of meatloaf that she had left, corn, potato salad, and fries. She gave me a tip to not keep the bag wrapped up since that would sog up the fries. In the end she charged me only $9 for the meal which I thought was very reasonable given the amount of food. Since I ate at Cafe Des Amis two hours earlier that day I wasn't overly hungry but I did nibble on some fries on the way back to Coushatta. I ate the meal for dinner and even though it was cold by then, the pork chops were extremely delicious and full of flavor as was the meat loaf. The only thing I didn't touch was the rest of the fries. I give Glenda five stars all around for friendly service and excellent food. I'm not sure when I would find myself in the area again but if I do, Glenda's will be my first stop. read more

Love the Sunday plates! BBQ chicken and the turkey roll are my favs. My fav side orders are potato salad and yams.

While enroute on blue highways from Lafayette to Baton Rouge we stumbled upon Glenda's. Thanks to Yelp! Even though she normally stops serving inside after 1:00 she welcomed us to her place. I had her chicken-sausage gumbo with rice. My wife the baked chicken. Both were beyond excellent! We then shared bites of the best bread pudding with rum sauce I've ever had. And I've eaten it at some of the best restaurants in New Orleans. Glenda told us she buys only fresh veggies, when possible. And obviously takes great pride in her cooking. We can recommend Glenda's without reservation. (And none is needed!). Well worth the trip to Breaux Bridge, LA! read more

Fun drive to get here. Its kinda out in the boonies, which makes it all the more exciting. It was smaller than I thought but the food was spot on. Revolving menu that changes day-today, but you can look on their website to see what they are serving on a particular day. Usual 2-3 proteins and 2-3 sides are available. Everything was spiced perfectly. I also got a piece of cake and it tasted just like momma used to make. All in all it was great home cooking at an outa the way place.
