Our first dining experience for the year, and we're off to a fantastic start. Parking can be a little tricky but worth it. We opened the door and were greeted by the live music, we got a table quickly. I like the way they give you ice water in a large container that you can pour yourself. The appetizer we tried was the fried eggplant with lump crab, and it was excellent, definitely the best eggplant dish I've had. I went the chicken and waffles for the main, waffles crisp outside tender inside and sweet but not overly sweet. The chicken had a nice spicy kick, steen syrup would have put this over the top, but got regular syrup, however this was still very tasty. The star was definitely the omelette! Wow this was special light airy like a soufflé with lump crab meat so amazing and delicious, the addition of the biscuit with the strawberry syrup and the grits made this a complete experience, definitely recommend this. We attended a wedding here and it was nice. The service was friendly and the food was ok. The cocktails were great & the beer was cold! The acoustics were perfect! We dined at Cafe Syndie Mae enroute from Florida to Texas. This is truly a destination worth bending your route to it, if you are not nearby. Some of the most delicious elevated but comfortable Cajun inspired food I've ever had. The vibe in the establishment is terrific. Lots of smiles, high energy. Our server was amazing and made us to feel like family way before the end of the evening. Live music is great, not too loud or obtrusive. Such an authentic experience and oh btw not that I was focussed on the check total, but this place is a total bargain as an added plus. Let me preface this review by stating that every single visit was consistent with the following comments. 1) Their service and hospitality is the best example of TRUE "southern hospital"! 2) The Ambiance is true to Louisiana culture and always has the best life music that is a staple for us in our culture! 3) Last and certainly not least, never have I ever had one item from their menu that did not absolutely rate an 11 out of 10!! Stopping by Breaux Bridge looking for Cajun food I chose Cafe Sydnie Mae, right downtown and was very pleasantly surprised. It had a down home atmosphere and was filled with customers, looking mostly like locals, within 30 minutes of opening. The menu was broadly Southern and Cajun, with many having a special or elegant twist. The service was friendly, attentive and personal. My server kept bringing me back to Teche (the name of the local bayou) Wellington - the local take on the English Beef Wellington. It was a flaky pastry puff with a mellow brandy cream sauce overflowing with crab and crawfish. The flavors melded perfectly with the seafood taste perfectly elevated. I complemented this rich dish with a very well done (and flavored) caesar salad. No room was left for dessert. There is a limited but good wine and beer list. When I arrived there was a musician setting up his keyboard and I thought I was going to get some unexpected lagniappe - some local Cajon music. Not to be! Truly one of the best spots in south LA. The snapper was divine. Seasoned perfectly and cooked the way it was meant to be. Not one negative comment. Don't sleep on this spot. The most amazing all-around experience! Our meal, the staff, and the man and woman entertaining us made it a magical experience!! Background: I made a dinner reservation for our 28th Anniversary. Before arriving, we didn't confirm our reservation time until what we thought was 45 minutes out for a 30-minute drive. After looking at our calendar, it showed our reservation was in 15 minutes, not 45 minutes. With zero chance of making it on time, I called the restaurant. After I explained to the person who answered our call that OUR mistake would cause us to miss our reservation by at least 25 minutes, the gentleman said in a very calming and reassuring voice, no rush, take your time; when you get here, your table will be ready. This was comforting, especially since it was our mistake and not theirs. To top it all off, they had an Anniversary Card on the table for us signed by all their employees, and at the end of the meal, they presented us with a complimentary Anniversary dessert. My husband and I came here for Father's Day weekend after hearing and reading the reviews. Let me just say this, the welcoming service, ambiance, and food were exceptional! We had reservations for 5pm dinner and were welcomed at the door. The waitress and I'm assuming the owners were conversational and very welcoming. The waitress told us about the off menu items. My husband ordered Waygu Bevette steak with Brussels and mashed potatoes and I ordered the Teche Wellington and a side of cheese grits. Appetizers were Creole Tomato Salad and Breaux Bread. This place was amazing. First off, with no reservation on a Saturday night (12/30) the manager still accommodated us. We sat at the bar and Haley (the bartender) took care of us. She was the busiest person in the place and yet she made us feel like we were her priority all while giving us a show. Lastly, the food!!! I ordered the shrimp and grits. I came in for a lovely themed brunch. They had a tropical theme with live music playing in the background. We enjoyed dressing up by using the props they provided like sunglasses and leis. We kind of had an issue with seating considering we had a small child with us. We were sat right in front of the live music which was particularly loud. This is one of the best Cajun restaurants I've been to! Generous seafood portions, and fairly priced. Service is exceptionally friendly, though they didn't wear masks when I went (after the CDC lifted the mask mandate for vaccinated people). They're very popular, so it's best to make a reservation ahead of time. We got there at dinner opening time at 4:30pm, and indoor seating was booked out. We ended up sitting at a small table on their patio. As many others have mentioned, the teche wellington is very impressive. The puff pastry literally melts in your mouth, and pairs phenomenally with the sauce and generous amount of seafood- crab, crawfish, etc. This was probably my favorite dish, followed closely by the crawfish etouffe and then the shrimp and gritz. The gumbo was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. I loved the potato gallette side! And the green beans are cooked to perfection. In the future, I'd probably reorder everything I got this time but skip out on the chocolate cake dessert (too sweet for my preferences) and the gumbo. Breaux Bridge has a long and proud Cajun culinary tradition, and Cafe Sydnie Mae does this tradition proud with some really authentic dishes. My husband surprised me December 5th for my 75th birthday with dinner at my all time favorite restaurant, Cafe Sydnie Mae. We live in Birmingham ,455 miles from this amazing establishment. Found it by accident a couple of years ago on our way to Texas to visit family. After a 7 hour road trip, I had the most amazing birthday experience ever!! David and Cheryl, the owners, along with their entire staff went over and beyond to make it a special day. After spending the night in Scott, we returned home with warm memories and special gifts.
