My first experience with him was when I was in excruciating dental pain and desperately needed an appointment. I was honestly starting to have those "tie a string around the tooth and slam the door" thoughts because the pain was so unbearable. Despite his busy schedule, he saw me immediately and had me scheduled for surgery that same week. I have significant dental anxiety, an extensive dental history, and a true dental phobia after previous negative experiences. Somehow, Dr. Wallace recognized how anxious I was without me having to say much. He took the time to answer every question, addressed every concern I had, and never once made me feel rushed. His calm, reassuring demeanor completely changed what I expected to be a terrifying experience. The day of surgery couldn't have gone more smoothly. His surgical staff was exceptional--kind, compassionate, and incredibly reassuring from start to finish. Later that evening, Dr. Wallace personally texted me to check on how I was doing. He was also quick to respond when I had questions after surgery, even later in the evening, and I was genuinely touched when I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers wishing me a speedy recovery. Those gestures may seem small, but they spoke volumes about the kind of physician he is. Unfortunately, a few days ago I found myself back in his office after breaking another tooth completely at the gum line while eating pizza. I was once again in excruciating pain and assumed I'd have to wait days to be seen. Instead, he squeezed me into his already packed schedule the very next day. Just like the first time, everything was outstanding. The surgery went smoothly, the staff was wonderful, and Dr. Wallace once again personally checked on me after the procedure. That level of care is incredibly rare these days. Beyond being an outstanding oral surgeon, Dr. Wallace is simply an exceptional human being. He has a calming presence, a wonderful sense of humor, and a way of making an experience that most people dread feel so much less intimidating. For someone with dental anxiety, that means more than I can put into words. I've had an extensive dental journey over the years--at one point alone I had 54 dental appointments in a single year with various providers. Because of that, I have a pretty good basis for comparison when I say that Dr. Wallace truly stands out. His technical skill is excellent, but what makes him exceptional is the compassion, empathy, and genuine concern he shows every patient. Here's a disappointing story. I have an abscessed tooth and for a few reasons it has to be removed…read moreby an oral surgeon. I am now 33 days past diagnosis for the abscess. I went through the process and got a date in the future to have it extracted by DFWOMS. I paid the money required before the deadline to keep my procedure date. I was supposed to have it removed this morning but yesterday at 4:30 in the afternoon they called and said "we had to update your treatment plan and now you have to pay another $600 before your surgery in the morning." That's a 30% increase to what they had already quoted and I had paid. It was last minute, I can't adjust that quick. If they had notified me in a timely fashion it wouldn't be a problem. I recently bought new tires for my car. I could have delayed that. I told them "I need you to work with me and give me less than 30 days to get it paid, but I need this tooth out of my head. The antibiotics to keep the infection away are destroying my guts." The call from them first thing this morning was "you have to pay or we reschedule." I told them "if it doesn't happen today you can refund my money and I will go somewhere else, I want to talk to the office manager." Then I hung up. After I scheduled a consult with another surgeon for tomorrow morning, I called and asked to talk to the office manger so we could discuss timeline for the refund. I was told "she is on her way to the office and will call as soon as she gets here." That was at 8:34 this morning. I have waited all day and nothing. You have to understand, they don't care about patient quality of life. They don't care the antibiotics are tearing me up. They don't care that I have been off my arthritis meds for a month at the request of their dentist. They don't care that I shuffled everything around at work and found driver to drive me to the procedure and get me home. Nope, patient doesn't matter, only the money. Eight hours waiting today and still no return call from the office manager.
