Enter the proverbial quest of searching online reviews for local, quality places. After a few busts calling other joints (straight to voicemail, "our machine is also broken," etc.), I came across In & Out Smog here on Yelp. The place picks up right away. Super friendly and clear on the phone and it's clear they're the spot for me to go. It's two hours before closing, but they're good to take me right away too. I swing by and I'm third in line, but it feels like I'm first. They're on the ball here, pointing out where to idle and asking me to keep the engine running. Another customer waiting tells there me she loves this place, even though she worries her older car too won't pass. (Spoiler alert: it passed.) While waiting in one of their comfy chairs in the shade, I could see the two guys working here know their stuff. One of them swings by with the quote - it's like HALF the price of the place I used to go to, even without a coupon. (Pro tip: no coupons anywhere usually for pre-2000 cars.) Well, that's cool. Another thing to point out: they've got this unique scenic painting of a mountain scape on the wall, almost facing Burbank's Verdugo Mountains just outside in the distance. In a world of so many places looking the same, it's things like that that can stand out beyond the work itself. So, they're doing their thorough tests and it's looking good. I hear my tried-and-true old car passed the test. (Side note: Bobby at Olive Auto Center just down the block has single handedly given extra life to my car with his incredible repairs.) But that's not the end of it at In & Out Smog. The guy offers some tips he noticed for other little improvements, like my gas cap could use a swap and some other things like that. Nice to go the extra mile there. Feels like they care a little more than just on to the next one. Bonus points: he also went through the numbers with me for how I scored, just for the fun of it without asking for the breakdown. What a cool little spot. Highly recommended!

Rick is a kingpin! Drove in during rush hour traffic(4:45pm on a wednesday) with no appointment, and he greeted me right at the entrance of the garage....pulled in, we chatted for a bit, very friendly dude, as he asked me a few questions about whether or not my car's computer/battery/fuel system had been compromised since the last smog check(because many times vehicles will not pass because of these issues). so he slapped the hand-held computer on my car before he even started the smog check to see if i had any of these issues, as it would save me time and money if i did actually have any issues....but everything was cool, except for a minor computer error code involving my gas cap that was easily fixed after the super quick smog check that took all of 7 minutes or so was completed and sent straight to the DMV, awesome and painless! This past Sunday my car had died and locked my keys in my car. The gas station I was at refuse to let me use their phone. As tears were coming to my eyes I felt like I had no way of getting help. Across the street I walked to this place and met Rick I believe his name was. He could see the distress on my face and was willing to do anything that helps. He let me use his computer and his phone and even went as far as helping me call places to get my keys. My experience in the Glendale area hasn't been the most welcoming. However, this experience changed my mind and made a crappy situation 10000 times better. Thank you so so much for helping a lost 22 year old trying to adult get the help she needed. I found a coupon for this place, and it's seemed like such a great deal, I figured there had to be a catch. I couldn't believe how fast the service was here. As soon as I pulled up, a gentleman greeted me and told me someone would be with me in just a min as there was one car ahead of me. A few minutes later, my car was next. I thought this was going to take some time so I stepped into the office but I barely had time to get settled in the air conditioned office. My car was done! Picked up the remote to find something to watch and he was already done. Less then 10 minutes, around 7 minutes. Plus great price, had a great coupon on his website. I had a great experience when I got my smog check. I used the coupon that they were promoting on their website to get $20 off. I was literally in and out within 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon with no appointment. Went there to get my car smoged. Not only did he give me a great deal, but it was fast service. I was in and out in 10 minutes. And the check was completed very quickly! By friendly staff! Furthermore, they helped with a couple other minor maintenance things I needed done - topped off my oil, which gets low frequently, and replaced my wipers, which I had been putting off. But even better: they were able to submit my auto registration on the spot and even give me the new license plate sticker on my way out! I was waiting til the last minute to get the smog check and registration done, so their quick service helped me avoid waiting for the sticker in he mail and potentially getting a ticket in the meantime. Friendly and helpful staff, fast and comprehensive service. I'll definitely go back next time! Update: Just got back from my latest smog check and it was seriously the greatest experience! This place is the opposite of the DMV - personal, friendly, extremely helpful and fast service! While they were doing some paperwork with me, the lady at the desk looked over into the garage and said, "He's trying to fix your front fender." After checking with other smog check places, we found out that many places only charge around $45. We feel like we wasted our money and time here. I do not recommend this place. Don't waste your money or your time coming here. There are other places that offer better pricing and much better customer service.
