I went to Joe's after having a bad experience with a different place nearby where I was flat out ignored by the mechanic when I showed up for service. Needless to say I got back in my car and left to find a different smog check provider... And then I found Joe's! I popped in and was greeted and serviced immediately - on the spot! And the check was completed very quickly! By friendly staff! Furthermore, they helped with a couple other minor maintenance things I needed done - topped off my oil, which gets low frequently, and replaced my wipers, which I had been putting off. But even better: they were able to submit my auto registration on the spot and even give me the new license plate sticker on my way out! I was waiting til the last minute to get the smog check and registration done, so their quick service helped me avoid waiting for the sticker in he mail and potentially getting a ticket in the meantime. Friendly and helpful staff, fast and comprehensive service. I'll definitely go back next time! Update: Just got back from my latest smog check and it was seriously the greatest experience! This place is the opposite of the DMV - personal, friendly, extremely helpful and fast service! While they were doing some paperwork with me, the lady at the desk looked over into the garage and said, "He's trying to fix your front fender." The guy fixed my fender, which has been hanging off its hinges for months, for free while doing the smog check! Love this place so much! read more

I am writing this review based on my husband's experience at this place. He was very disappointed with the service he received. The lady (possibly the owner's wife) was very unprofessional and had a poor attitude, which made the whole process unpleasant. On top of that, he was charged $75 for a smog check. After checking with other smog check places, we found out that many places only charge around $45. We feel like we wasted our money and time here. I do not recommend this place. Don't waste your money or your time coming here. There are other places that offer better pricing and much better customer service. read more

I would not recommend this smog check station based on my experience. The customer service was completely unprofessional. The employee was visibly upset from the moment I arrived and started yelling at me for no reason. I remained respectful, but there was no reason to be treated that way. What made the experience even worse was that the smog test didn't produce a pass or fail result. Instead, I was told I would have to come back to retake the test and pay another fee. I don't think customers should be charged again when the first test couldn't provide a conclusive result. A smog inspection can already be stressful, and customers deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism. Unfortunately, I received neither. I hope the owner addresses both the customer service and the way these situations are handled, because no customer should have this kind of experience. read more

This office saved me from the line at the dmv during the covid in triple digit heat. A friendly person ahead of me in line suggested I call Joe's smog office. He was sure they could help me. I called and they said they were sure they could assist me. If they couldn't, they would bring my paper work to the dmv for me the next day. I was sold! I left the line and drove five minutes to the office and 15 minutes later, I was out with a renewed registration. And I was able to wait in a cool room with A/C. read more

Greed. I do have an older vehicle that didn't pass smog on its first run. I was told it needed an $80 part and obliged to have the man do the service of repair. I was charged 141.00 for the first attempt. He assured me that not much would be charged for labor and some small fees for a recertification. Upon arrival for pick up the lady at the counter thinks she works for the DMV and wants to charge every single service fee imaginable. My bill was close to $500. Folks cmon now I was taken for a fool here. For an 80 part as I was told. I feel the man is a hard worker trying to provide a decent living for his family but the lady at the counter had no idea that her customers are trying to do the same for theirs. read more

Registering an out of state vehicle is a complicated matter but Joe's set me up right and saved me $$$$ fees because I had originally filled in my forms incorrectly. Went here for myself after reading all the reviews. The price quote is a MAJOR TURN-OFF. I almost wanted to dock 2 stars for that alone. I called on the phone and asked the price for vehicle renewal, she says $25. I asked again clarifying, "this includes the sticker?" She now clarifies that the sticker is $5 which means $30 for the renewal. It's not about the $5, I would have pay $10 happily. But I do hate being dicked around with surprise charges. They should have at least answered immediately on the phone $25 for the renewal and $5 for the sticker but they kept quiet...so they lose one star for this alone. (Seriously, I REALLY want to take 2 away.) I wouldn't say the service is rude. They are just Persian/Armenian or Middle Eastern or something...one of those cultures where they don't seem as warm/friendly/polite like you might find with Americans or Mexican culture. Nonetheless, I'm happy I went here instead of waiting all day at the DMV. Those curious about doing Smog checks here, I would highly recommend you go elsewhere. They definitely WILL dick you around on the price and also the lot is crazy overloaded. I did this back in 2018, I was needing to do a smog test and I found this really amazing place. It was after work so I wasn't sure if any shop was gonna be open afterwards. I found this place through google maps and drove there at 5:40. I asked them if they could do a smog test for my car because I needed to do a new car registration at the DMV. BUT I found out that they also provided new car registration service! What an amazing find, we went ahead and did the paper work and I paid the fee, they were very helpful. They gave me my registration, license plate, and sticker! I was out by 6:30. :) What an amazing service. read more

This is the absolute best place to go to get your car smogged. The service is amazing I went in today and even though my car did not pass he was very friendly and helped me understand what I should do and have a mechanic look at before I come back and have it restested. He has a policy if it does not pass you do not pay and he invited me to come back as many times as I wanted and he would check it for me. I wouldn't recommend coming here for a smog check. On your first visit, they will NOT pretest your car before running the smog check so if you fail, the yelp discount special is no longer applicable so it's $51 for the first failed test, $20 to come back within 2 weeks for a retake. Every visit after the first they will THEN do what other smog test places already do and actually pretest your car to see if you'd pass or not before administering the test. Scam? Definitely. Also do yourself a favor and register your DMV docs online because they will charge $40 for this 5 minute process without telling you there's a fee or giving you a receipt for said charge, but hey at least you get your sticker right away -.- What made me the most upset about this place was just their laziness or lack of care. I failed my first smog check because they told me my battery wasn't full and to drive it 60 miles on the freeway. So i did that, i even drove out at 11pm at night to ensure there would be no traffic in order to run my car at 65mph for the entire duration. Guess what, still failed the precheck. This time they said i needed to drive 100 miles. So i did. Guess what, STILL failed. This time they said i needed to do a mixture of street driving + freeway driving. The 3rd fail around, i told the guy i thought it was a larger problem than the battery which is most definitely charged by now with all the driving i had done. He disagreed, and just continued to instruct me to keep driving. So i went to my usual mechanic, Burbank Auto Tech on Glenoaks and immediately the owner Onik said it wasn't just my battery, it was something to do with my idle and he reset my system and instructed me to drive a mixture of street + freeway over the weekend. So i did, then I went back to Joe's Smog to complete the test since I already paid $51, and sure enough.. i finally passed. All in all, i paid a total of $266.75 for a smog test + registration. My DMV registration was only $137, all other fees were Joes's bullshit. Most expensive experience i've ever had for a smog + registration. Good luck if you choose to come here. read more

Does not say in the offer if you choose to check in but they told me they will only give you the discount if your car is a year 2000 or newer. If it's old like mine, a 1999, they may give you $10 off regular price. OR a free retest if the car does not pass the first time. However, they are fast and get it all done for you if you are in a rush. They also check your car for you and they added some oil and pumped my tires, which was nice. They also send everything to the DMV for you for a $25 convenience charge. A little pricey for the place but convenient. read more

I recently relocated to CA and have been facing all of the challenges that come with moving from out of state. I knew the time had come to address my vehicle registration and license plates. I spent hours researching all that would be required and what forms would be needed...and felt overwhelmed...especially the thought of going to the California DMV. After reading the other great reviews, I decided to go and see them in the hopes of just being able to get all the required inspections done and paperwork prepared to go and visit to the DMV. When I arrived, I was greeted by Diana and her husband Elie. After explaining my situation to Diana, she informed me that she would be able to handle the entire process right then and there...I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to say the least! Even after I advised her that I did not have the title to my car with me, but had my out of state registration paperwork, she said with a smile, "no problem...I can still do it for you." :) WOW! After a short period of time, she processed all the paperwork, while Elie was completing all the inspections...within about an hour I had everything taken care of and they even attached the license plates for me! I was so overjoyed that I didn't know what to do...I couldn't believe that I had found such a GREAT and convenient business that was efficient and able to handle ALL of my needs at one time. And best of all...no visit to the DMV to get this done!!! And if that wasn't enough, Elie took the extra step and checked the oil and other fluids in my car and made me aware of some issues and took care of everything for me!!! I always go to this guy, I've been going there for years and years because I got tired of being ripped off and told I was going to pay 6050 $40 for a smog certificate where I can go to this man pay a reasonable fee enjoy his jocularity and his friendship knows me I drive in takes me less than five minutes to get my certificate which is sent in over the Internet, And head right over to automobile club and pick up my tags how easy is that give this guy a try you won't go wrong he's always there you can give them a call and make sure he's there if he doesn't have a doctors appointment or something but once you go to him you won't go any place else drive-in get your certificate five minutes five minutes out try it you'll enjoy. read more

Oooo. Not a good experience. I brought in a coupon. Immediately I was asked not to let the other customers know about the coupon. Shady move number one. Then I didn't pass, and was told that because of that I had to pay full price with a free retest later. That was NOT on the coupon -- but, whatever. Today I went back and was told that since it'd been more than two weeks I'd have to pay full price. What? He pointed to a place on the receipt that did in fact have the two week notice -- but of course I hadn't read the receipt... most people don't. Shady move two. Then he went on to say that after two weeks 'they have to pay' or some such nonsense. Shady move three, since I eventually went to Auto Check Centers in Hollywood and passed for less money than I was charged here... and they said that they knew nothing about the two week thing. No, this is not "Joe's Smog" on Burbank Blvd. with 40 Yelp reviews and a 5 star rating, this is that other Joe's Smog on San Fernando Road in Glendale, this is its first review, and I'm giving it 4 starts. Since I've been to both, comparisons between the two are inevitable. I'll get it out of the way right up front - Burbank Joe is a more pleasant experience. Burbank has a nice sitting area, Glendale cheap plastic chairs in the parking lot. Burbank - tv set for entertainment; Glendale watching the near accidents at the intersection of Western & San Fernando. Burbank a salon like setting, Glendale a grease pit. But the fact is that I didn't need to watch TV, nap on a couch, or be pampered while waiting for the diagnostic machine to do its thing, I just needed to get the smog certification and get on my way, and Joe's of Glendale did that without any drama or hassle. In, out, thank you Glendale Joe. So, if you're getting in a 2 for one and combining your smog check with a blind date, go to Burbank Joe, but if you're stag and just getting the smog check, Glendale Joe will do fine.
