I only discovered Burbank Smog & Auto after finding it on yelp, never hearing of the place before. I needed a clutch replacement ASAP and was trying to find shops that had downtime to try to get a same day repair. I decided after reading the reviews here to give it a shot . I called first thing in the morning. John picked up the phone, and I explained the symptoms I had on the car. He was pretty responsive and asked questions to validate my suspicion of needing the clutch replaced. Then I asked how busy the shop was, because I wanted to see if he could finish by the end of the day. He said he wasn't that busy and to bring it on down. I brought the car at 9:45am, he tested the car and diagnosed it, then said he would do his best to complete the entire job by the end of the day but could not guarantee it. He even said that it may take until 10am the next day. I understood and decided to give the OK to start the job. The guys started immediately, even with phone calls and other customers coming in. After a couple hours I took off while they continued working on it. At about 1:30pm John called me to give an update on the status - the transmission was prepped and the flywheel was at the machinist already! He even said he was going to repair another part which I knew was a pending issue with the car. So I gave him the OK to repair that as well even though I was still concerned that job might not be done by the end of day. Then I got the call from John at 5:50pm - my car was done!!!! I was SO happy that he was able to finish ALL that work in the same day!! Since my stepdad is a master mechanic nearing retirement (which is why I didn't take it to him to begin with) I had strong familiarity as to what to look for in a professionally run auto repair shop - and guess what - Burbank Smog & Auto is EXACTLY that!! From this 1 visit, I observed in the time I was onsite that John and the team were very competent, hard workers that don't slack off on the job like a lot of other mechanics. John is VERY honest, humble, and is as accommodating as he possibly can be. And their prices? Competitive and reasonable. And their customer service? Priceless. John is simply the best mechanic ever. He is so honest and trustworthy and his whole team exudes those characteristics as well. As long as I live in Southern California I will always bring any and every car problem to john. He can get really busy sometimes so it's always safer to call ahead. There has been a number of times he's discovered that a previous mechanic has done something I wasn't aware of and has fixed it for me. I first went to John to get my Boss's car smog checked. I was new to the area and didn't have a good mechanic yet so I looked on yelp and google and found this place. On my way to the shop, the engine started smoking and when I got there, it turns out the car just needed a small inexpensive part replaced. He didn't try to upsell me which I was so amazed at (especially since it was an expensive car). I guess the point I'm trying to get across is that John does his job right - he gives you what you need and will say "Hey, you might want to look at this getting done in the future but you're ok for now." (Which he did say to me at one of my checkups). He is fantastic! I've been to him many times for my 100,000 checkup and several oil changes and he's just the best.
