No clue how anyone could rate this place less than 5 stars, because I don't know what I would do without it! Yes, you are paying more than you would at a grocery store - that's the price of convenience and it's a small general store, not a massive chain. However, everything there is high quality and it's saved me so many times from having to go all the way into town for something we needed for dinner. I also can't say enough about the ice cream they have, especially the sherbert! I believe it comes from Gunthers in Sacramento and it is seriously some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Everyone who works there has been friendly and helpful, the store is always clean and well stocked, and I hope it continues to succeed in town. I come in here no less than a few times a week, whether for a drink, ice cream, a to-go sandwich, or grocery items, and have never had an issue. I'm glad they're selling shirts and more merch now too, because it really is a Glenshire staple. read more

I drive by this place two or three times a week when I'm up in Truckee. I decided to stop and see what kind of stuff they had for lunch. First bonus perk, check in you get a free coffee or a scoop of ice cream. I decided to go for coffee because it's freezing, and 10:30 AM lol. I was greeted as I walked in by Bobby. A genuinely nice personable guy. I showed him the coupon for free coffee, and then we started talking about the market. He said he really enjoyed it here. It is just like one of those old neighborhood markets that I had when I was growing up. Nice deli section, meat section, pretty much all around mom and Pop style grocery store. Really enjoyed my visit here, and want to come back and try the Gunthers ice cream. read more

Our kids live close by, and whenever we visit Truckee, we usually end up patronizing this store. It's quite a conglomeration of different merchandise. Today, we purchased various types of sandwiches and liquid refreshment. Later on we came back for beer and ice cream. Not necessarily in that order. Don't forget to use the Yelp check-in offer for a free ice cream cone. Today, I got mint chocolate chip. The people here are always really friendly and helpful. It's a popular spot with the locals. Yes, it's more expensive then Kmart, but it's still a good option, and we almost always can find what we need here. read more

I stopped by the Glenshire General Store for beer and ice cream (part of a well balanced dinner) to accompany the three pizzas we picked up next door (Glenshire Pizza - another five stars). Glenshire is off the beaten path but that doesn't mean they don't carry variety. I was focused on beer and ice cream so I'll save my comments to those particular items. I spotted the Ben and Jerry's and was about to grab a couple of pints when I noticed two local brands, Strauss and Tahoe Creamery. I'm one to always try the local fair and it was a great choice. Phenomenal organic ice cream (mint chip, vanilla and caramel toffee). The beer selection was also great. All the major brands were represented but just as many, if not more, local brews. Too many to call them out by name but I loved the stout (S'mores?) that I purchased. Glenshire General Store may be our of the way but it was sure a convenient and worthy stop for me. read more

So happy to have a General Store nearby. They always have just what I need. Prices are reasonable.

I deliver packages in Glenshire sometimes. On hot days, I often ask restaurants for a cup of ice to cool down my water (no ac in the trucks). They charge 50¢ for cups, no problem, so I bring in my own cup. They proceed to charge me 50¢ for ice. In my own cup. Why?????? Like just why??????? A day trip to Truckee afforded me the opportunity to visit this quaint little general store and market located on the outskirts of Truckee. It's away from downtown, so this is really a place for the locals or those staying in the houses surrounding the place. It all adds up to a nice environment for your casual shopping needs. I popped in seeking a restroom. Knowing that it's rude to use an establishment's restroom without buying something, I gladly grabbed some drinks for my family. But looking around, I couldn't resist also tapping into their vast selection of snacks and goodies. They even had some toys that my son took a strong interest in. The employees were very friendly as well. I did end up getting the key and using their restroom, but I'm glad my near-bursting bladder gave me a chance to check out this fun little business! read more

Went in and bought an item that was labeled as $13. It rang up as $19. I asked the cashier about the discrepancy and she said "well, it's just labeled wrong, oh well" and would not adjust the price. Just drove down to the Gen to get a pack of smokes and a gallon of milk. When checking out I was told my total was $17.73. Wow! I know that the Gen is not the lowest price place to shop but that was a bit much. When I asked the young (under 18) cashier to check the total I received a blank stare, and a sharp tongue. He finally looked at the receipt and corrected the bill. If I had not been on my game I think he would have taken me for $5. Not cool. I have always loved the Gen, but now have mixed feelings. read more

Remember this is a local business and purchase in small quantity so of course they can't offer Safeway or big box store pricing. But it is locally owned, convenient and clean. i love this store. the drive into truckee takes two song lengths each way, and another song to get to the markets in town. the general store has a selection way better than a corner store, including organic produce and lots of home-made ready to eat stuff. 10% discounts on cases of anything, nice locals who are nice to visitors. the banana bread is to die for! read more
