Prices at Save Mart in Truckee continue to by sky high... Highly recommend going first to Grocery Outlet first. Today, we found three standard food items (ie; Mexican salsa, sourdough bread, tomatoes and lemons) at Save Mart almost 2x the cost of the very same item at Grocery Outlet. Don't be fooled by their name, they are out to rip us all off and think that they are fooling everyone. Highly recommend you do your own due diligence and I am sure you will come to the same conclusion. read more

I hate to say this because I want to support our local employees and local grocery store. However ever since the roof caved in a couple years ago, things just haven't been the same at save Mart. I don't know what it is but the store seems more dirty, quite a bit dingier, and it's harder to get the things you need consistently. Admittedly I am not shopping there like I used to because it's just not a pleasant experience. Their prices used to be competitive but now they're almost on par with Safeway. Sadly with the competition from Grocery Outlet I don't know what save Mart can do to compete without a complete overhaul of the store and the product they carry. Tahoe City recently lost their save Mart so this is really the only one left in the area. Hopefully they can get back to having better quality produce, better quality items, and having a welcoming and biting store to come into. read more

Stopped here on a trip to Redding, but also could be a Tahoe due to the location. But this place reminds me so of a Pak N Save or Safeway quality foods. We came here for just sandwiches and ice and both was nothing to say wow to. read more

Nice people but the most frustrating grocery store I've been to. At the busiest times there will never be more than 2 checkout lanes open. There will be 10 people in each line and you'll wait over 10 minutes. At night they'll never open more than 1 lane and you'll also wait 10 minutes. I know everyone isn't a checker but seeing other employees walking around or standing by the checkout stations is maddening. I live around the corner and just end up going to Safeway. Right now, 9 people in my lane. 12 people in the other lane. 1 person bagging. read more

So, I came into get a sandwich. A pottery common activity, not usually a big deal but we hit a major snag when we got to the... cheese. You see, I don't eat meat so I requested a second slice of cheese. The person making the sandwich said there was an extra charge for that. I explained that I wasn't getting meat and she asked the manager of the deli department who confirmed the extra charge. I told her that I wasn't getting meat, that the sandwich was a flat rate and I was just asking for cheese. They didn't offer any any alternatives. Maybe one half slice of each flavor, a veggie sandwich (which apparently exists but wasn't on their menu), nothing. She got super defensive and, with an attitude, told me again. I wasn't happy about the attitude. Normally I'd move along and let Yelp do the talking but I was hungry and annoyed by the service. So I put my best Karen hat on and asked to speak with the manager. She replied with a super flippant comment and stormed off to get the manager. At this point things were pretty chill and I couldn't figure out what her deal was. I do realize people have bad days and everyone has their own things happening in life. The manager (Danny) handled things well. I told him that she was dragging me through the muck for a slice of cheese and questioned what the big deal was. I mean, it was like $.005 cost. The way the deli manager should have responded was "sure, we will give you a slice of cheese this time but in the future please know that we charge for this. Simple!!! Danny got things squared around and we went back to the deli. The deli manager said something snide about me to the other girl (attencion: jueros puede hablar español tambien). They made the sandwich and that was that. The worst part... the sandwich wasn't really all that great, I should have just taken my business down the road (which I will do next time). Hey Save Mart. Looks like you could use some customer service training and empowerment sessions in your Truckee deli department, I assure you I'm not the only one experiencing this (and by their overall rating I think that can be confirmed). read more

Decent selection and good service can be found here. I got really hungry while we were shopping for groceries and decided to get a couple of things from the deli section. I was impressed with how many options they had on a weekend evening. I ended up getting the brussels sprouts and some cornbread stuffing. Both were a little on the salty side but they were just what I needed to keep me satiated until dinner. This SM is small but has everything you need including a huge coffee creamer section with every flavor imaginable, and even Ripple milk - something not every grocery store stocks! Conveniently located in the shopping center with Starbucks, a ski rental store, and a froyo shop, you can get a lot of things done while in the area. The folks who work here were helpful and friendly and I'll be back in the future! read more

Prices are very reasonable even compared to normal grocery stores. I find it cheaper than Safeway. We got some produce, Premade guacamole, and ice cream, and everything was of normal quality that you would expect from a normal grocery store. There were several checkout lanes open and it didn't take any time at all. Easy no-frills place to get some food if you're in the area. read more

I just love this grocery store, it's located in a strip mall conveniently on highway 89 in Truckee. The prices here are much better than the other big chain in town. I just went today and stocked up on the usual items I need for up here. My cart was absolutely full with a ton of things! I was shocked when it was only $60.00. The store also has a Redbox located near the entrance which I love. I can pick up a quick movie for tonight. The staff is really helpful and they quickly open another register when the lines get long, at the other place I mentioned the lines are long and they never have enough staff to get you in and out quickly. This is important to me because time is money!! read more

No brainer for me. They carry cane sugar Dr. Pepper for $3.99. First off it is hard to find this great tasting soft drink. Second, in Los Angeles the three locations that carried it (Pavilions, Target and Ralphs--the latter two no longer carrying) all charged $4.99. Anyway, the store visit was great since I got everything we needed for our holiday week including fried chicken which was great, charcoal to grill our New York steaks and shrimp. Store well stocked and friendly service. They didn't have the kids snow gear we were looking for, ie. the right size boots but we did get cane sugar Coke so all good. So I just ran into the rudest cashier I have ever met!!! I have been shopping at Savemart Stores for over 10 years, and I have always received very good service. But today I met KATE AT THE TRUCKEE STORE!! We were there to get a bottle of wine and some flowers. Choose our items, went to KATES checkout to pay. I was standing there listening to her flirt with the 2 young men in front of us. She finished checking them out and continued her conversation with the 2nd gentleman as she was scanning our items. We had 2 items. After scanning the bottle of wine, she grasped the flowers and was roughly sliding them back and forth the scanner trying to get the scanner to pick up the price. I wouldn't have said anything if pieces of flowers started falling out of the bouquet we picked out. I asked her to be careful with the flowers because the were falling out. She looked at me as if I was asking for the moon. From that moment on she took a very nasty attitude with just not me but my husband as well. She took his change and more or less dropped it in his hand without a word and went on to the next customer. WILL NOT SHOP AT THAT SAVEMART AGAIN!!! read more

Safeway may be slightly more expensive, but i'd prefer to spend the extra few cents just for the more pleasant ambiance. This store just needs to be redone entirely. Gut it and do it over. The staff is...unresponsive. Comatose, even. Maybe I just caught them on a few consecutive bad days (seems unlikely). Although, to be fair, i'd be a little dreary too if I were working in that cave. It's just kinda old and creepy feeling. Plus, the layout is all weird and the aisle's are too narrow. I prefer to shop at the Save Mart in Truckee. The staff is very nice and go out of their way to be helpful. Deli is terrific! There is one margarita mixer product that could only be found at Save Mart and since I brought up my desire to have availability on a regular basis they have PERFORMED! Thank you Truckee Save Mart. A sickly looking man was ringing up groceries. Originally it was a lady but it was time for her break when he took over. She asked him if he was okay. He then opened a small package, pulled something small out (medicine or maybe cough drop). He put it in his mouth with two fingers that literally went into his mouth. He did not sanitize or put on gloves and proceeded to touch our food with his nasty infected fingers. I will not return to that store. That is totally unacceptable and disgusting. read more

This place took over the spot Albertson's used to be. It's a decent alternative to Safeway in Truckee if Safeway is out of things but Safeway has MUCH better pricing. I'm sure they have their regular sales, etc but didn't seem to be nearly as many or as good as Safeway has regularly. Plus I agree with the 2nd review - this place must use enough power to light up the store as Las Vegas does to power the strip. But it's much cleaner and nicer than the old Albertson's used to be. I would never buy anything there. So an improvement for sure. And definitely less crowded than Safeway which can be a complete nightmare on holiday weekends and/or good snow weekends. read more

Cheaper than safeway. However had an incident today which soured my experience. I bought goods for $5.98 I handed over $10. I received only $4 in return not $4.02. No explanation, no sorry we ARE are out of pennies, no explanation, nothing. If you do that with every customer that is very profitable for your business. A nice enough store, but my choice to have teriyaki wings for our lake-arrival snack was a disaster. The teriyaki-slathered wings looked innocent enough in the refrigerated case, but they were utterly inedible. I am guessing they were left under heat lamps for hours, because I don't know how you could cook them so long that they were like shoe leather. The teriyaki sauce was good, but didn't make it close to edible. read more

Love the new younger checkers that are working here. I saw one nametag was Jake and I missed the young girls name. Very helpful bagger too. I will update with names when Im back in and catch them. I have always liked savemart but whoever hired these ones did good. Pleasant, well mannered, talkative, helpful and dont act like we are an inconvenience. Ehhh, I couldn't barely walk around this place without knocking things off the shelves, they are that packed with food. It's ok and did the trick, but some fairly trashy clientele. Beer selection was good, bread selection was pretty lame. They did have Judy's organic eggs though so that's a win. read more

I feel like there are only two supermarkets in Truckee. This one and Safeway. Save Mart has definitely saved us during our yearly Tahoe trips, having cheaper meat than Safeway (2.99/lb tri-tip!), and also having kegs of sierra, fat tire, and other domestics which is crucial. Yes, kegs here are more expensive, but it's better than lugging a 150-lb barrel of beer all the way up from the city. Plus I don't know what the pressure change would do to the contents of that barrel. Probably nothing. read more

If i could put 0 stars i would. My friends an I walked into this store and everyone in the store started to stare. We then heard workers wisper "should we keep an eye on them" and when we heard that we were so confused as to why they would say that if we were not doing anything suspicious for them to think that. Then they said "look at them they are acting strange now because we are looking at them". We then asked if there was any problems and said "I don't know, someone said you were stuffing items in your jacket". We were so offended and couldn't believe they acussed us of stealing when we never did. Bottom line don't come to this store if you want to get racial profiled or if you are a POC. read more
