Today I got THE BEST manicure I've ever gotten in my entire life. I'm not kidding. I can't stop checking out my own nails. They look absolutely perfect. I got the gel nails, and they look so awesome. This is what made the manicure so great. 1) every nail is shaped perfectly. Other places, it feel like the person shaping your nails is not even paying attention while they're filing your nails. 2) the actual cutting back of the skin around the nails was done so well, and 3) the color was applied perfectly. Quite a lot of the girls are super attitude-y and rude. Not the person I usually go to but the times I've gotten other ppl they've acted like they didn't want me there or something. Very little conversation and very aloof. This last time, the girl doing my polish change, not a full on manicure, just a polish change, complained about my cuticles several times then dropped the nail polish brush on my shoe, white nail polish on a black shoe. I didn't notice it til I got home but she did and didn't say a word. After my wife had been begging me to come here for a while, I finally relented and came in to get a pedicure with her. My first impression of the place is that it is really nice and well decorated. Our appointment was at 3pm, so we were shown to the two seats we would be receiving service in. A technician immediately approached us and brought over the buckets of water to soak our feet in. The same technician began to start my wife's pedicure right away, with no one there to begin mine. So, while my wife is enjoying her pedicure, I am sitting there just letting my feet soak. After about 15 minutes go by, my wife asks, "Is someone coming to do his pedicure?" The technician said yes and that the person doing mine was still finishing another client. Well, another 10 minutes goes by (my wife has now been getting her pedicure for almost 30 minutes) I start to see the tech who is doing hers start to look around like "is someone coming?" Finally, she leaves to go find someone. While she was gone looking for someone, a technician finally approached me. When the technician approached us we were like, "we didn't think anybody was coming." Instead of saying "I am so sorry for your wait" or something to that effect, she said "well, I am here now", in a perturbed tone. I am assuming this is not the girl who was suppose to do mine, but, was called upon due to the other technician take longer to finish the client before me. She didn't seem to be too thrilled with having to be the replacement. Also, the two chairs where we got our pedicures were right next to the employees break room. Thus, we heard loud conversation and the strong smell of food. Towards the end of our pedicures, some loud, obnoxious guy walked in and stood right in front of us while speaking loudly on his cell phone. No one seemed to care to ask him to quiet down. I expected much better service given how beautiful the place is. A pedicure is suppose to be a relaxing, calming experience. This was not a relaxed atmosphere at all. I am giving it two stars due to the beautiful layout of place, and, the champagne was tasty. read more

I made an appointment this past Saturday for a Champagne Rose pedicure. The salon itself is really beautiful and clean. They don't use jet tubs for pedis which is fine, but kind of wish the water would stay warm. My 4 year old came with me for a princess mani-pedi. She seemed to enjoy it because it started with complimentary apple juice, but since her legs weren't long enough, she was barely sitting on the seat when she was soaking her feet. Looked a little uncomfortable :/ My pedicure was just okay. Like I said, because they don't use jetted tubs, they bring out a tub of hot water, but it cools pretty quickly. Maybe that was why the pedi seemed a little rushed since the water was cooling. I thought it was kind of cool to have champagne as part of the pedi, but they pretty much just pour it over your legs and then it's over. The foot massage didn't really happen... I can't even remember it. They use the file instead of the pumice stone which is cool, but I didn't feel like my feet were left any softer... I wanted some designs on my toes, but was told that it was only available if I wanted gel on my toes. She asked if I wanted gel and then when I said yes, she said "Well, let me check because we probably don't have time." Why did you offer if I can't really get it? Meh. Then I asked for a faux French pedicure design with just the tips in glitter. She said she couldn't because it wasn't gel... Okay...? It's just a line at the top of the nail with glitter polish... I've had it done before as well as at home, but okay... So anyway, nice nail salon, easy booking, candy bar!, okay service, but I need another pedicure already and it's barely been a week. I truly wanted to love this nail salon, unfortunately for the price and time I spent there, I was not pleased. My nail technician kept getting up to get things (probably around 10 times). She was completely ignoring me and was talking with her co-workers about their plans for the evening (they were deciding where to go for sushi and then where to go out) which is fine but I feel like it tacked on an extra 20 minutes because when she talked to her co-workers she would stop working on my nails to turn and face them. I was there for close to an hour and a half! My manicures never run over 45 mins. I'm giving the 2 stars for how cute the place is and for getting me in without an appointment. Also she did a great shape on my nails, however a week later I find myself having to SUPER GLUE two nails back on!!! And the rest of my nails all still feel extremely fragile! The charge for my nails was also completely ridiculous! I was charged $42.00 for acrylic refill (I don't have, nor have I ever had acrylic nails done, I have always done gels) which brings me to my next charge, $20.00 for gel color add-on and $7.00 for Rockstar... Umm, I don't know exactly what that is other than the color I chose was called Rockstar... I thought that would have been the $20.00 charge?! Anyhow, $69.00 for a week lasting manicure is absurd to me. After a tip (even though I didn't think she deserved one but maybe she was having an off day) I walked out of there $83.00 dollars lighter:/ bottom line, not worth your time OR money for something that lasts a week.... Thanks to other Yelp reviews, I have new nail salon! GLO Nail Bar is really different from other nail salons. Located in a small strip mall on southbound Newport Blvd, next to that born-again, mega-church (whose name I obviously can't remember!) and just a block down from Armstrong Garden Centers. Easy parking out front. Anyhow, once you walk in, you forget you're on Newport Blvd. It's is a modern, sleek black and white design, clean, quiet and relaxing. The front desk person greets you, takes your 'order', and sets up your appointment. You are lead to the back half of the salon, where you climb little steps to a cushioned bench and wait for them to bring a scented and flower-filled bucket to soak your feet in. A menu gives you a choice of complimentary drinks and services. You choose your nail color from a flip-chart of colors instead of a rack on the wall. I like this because someone else may be using the perfect color, but you'd never see it if it was checked out from a wall rack. This way, you get to see all the colors they have. I got the regular GLO pedicure with the extra sea salt rub. It was great! My feet and legs felt tingly and smooth the rest of the day. My only minor complaint is that the pedicure benches, while very artsy and contemporary looking, aren't super comfy and don't recline at all since you are sitting against a wall. And it is kind of pricey. Some services on the menu go up to $60-70. But I can live with that. I don't need the super-expensive treatments, and I'm willing to splurge every once in a while. Got a mani pedi here this morning and loved every second of it. This does NOT feel like a nail salon. This feels like a high end hair salon in LA. From the perfect decor, home accents, setup, check in station, the candy bar, the free wifi, wine with your mani- there isn't a detail left out. This is only the second mani/pedi I've had in my life where none of the staff spoke ANYTHING except english in front of the patrons. Manicure artists were from all nationalities and ages, from a cute punk rock girl to the sweet mom. Instead of picking out your color from a wall of gross, half-empty bottles, they bring out a color book, much like if you were getting gels. (For a normal mani, too!) The pedicure station is not an old leather chair with recycled germ water, rather individual basins the artists bring out and pour in bath salts and rose petals. I TRULY felt pampered here. Instead of dental office jams, they were rocking current, relevant tunes. The price for a normal mani/pedi was $48, about $18 higher than my normal salon. I found Glo, in the middle of the night last night because I didn't realize how badly I needed a pedicure. So I decided to treat myself to the Vanilla Delight Pedicure, one of their many Signature Pedicures! They have 13 different selections varying from $35-$63 but they also offer a "Happy Hour" Monday-Wednesday on a few signature pedicures. My Experience; I was a couple minutes late to my appointment and was immediately taken to the cute and SUPER SPACIOUS & COMFY spa chairs! It took awhile for the water but it was okay, the soak was amazing and smelled even better! (even getting home, my feet still smell amazing!) Kim was my pedicurist and was super sweet and took time on my feet which I love! She never once hurt me, unlike many salons I've been to. My entire stay was about an hour and 40 minutes. That's what a call a nice pampering! I was so happy! Downside; (not really, but kinda) Also got a nail color change but was a bit disappointed because the lady never put a base coat? My mother does nails, and she's done them for me since I was 6 (I'm 20) so I know what should happen. I love this place!!! The ambiance is very much like a blowdry bar... hip and chic. You are greeted by a person in the front desk and then whoever is going to work on you comes and takes you to your place. They offered me something to drink and suggested their ice tea. It was delicious! I had their special "Cupid" spa pedicure package and it was absolutely amazing!!! Rose petals, raspberries, lemon slices, bath bomb and much more!! I felt completely pampered and spoiled. Michelle worked on my pedicure and I left very satisfied! I didn't give them 5 stars because the woman who worked on my manicure didn't ask me what kind of manicure package I wanted, she also left some hard ridges on the tips of my nails that I had to file myself. I don't go to nail salons for myself, I tag along sometimes with the wife, and I never get anything done, but this time because the salon had just opened and the owner was being very generous, I had a parafin done on my hands. It was a great experience and I truly noticed the difference in my hands. I noticed alot of the other people there were getting nail art done and showing it off afterwards. I guess that's the latest thing and this shop seems to do it exceptionally well. The salon itself is not the typical nail salon. CLEAN, NICE & Friendly nail techs, They offer Mimosas, Wine, Tea, Water, and incredible services. I'm growing out my acrylics and the owner was so great and helped me pic out the perfect Gel color. She suggested applying gels over the acrylics while they grow out. She asked what color range I like and saw me struggling to find a color from the swatches, and took 2 colors out and asked which one I liked better. It looks beautiful. My pedicure was so great and relaxing. They have many scrubs to choose from on the menu and I was so relaxed, even without partaking in the mimosa or wine offered. Parking is easy too! Place rocks, and I am a guy and not afraid to admit it. I love coming here to get my nails looking good again. Being a guy my hands and feet go through some tough times and can start to look pretty bad. Needles to say GLO keeps me able to wear flips flops. Staff here is super nice and I am always able to get in and out quick. Not sure some of the reviews talking about No Walk Ins but you don't always book an appointment and am able to get in. Environment is well taken care of kept clean. With Summer coming up I will have to make another trip here in the next couple months. CHEERS!!! read more
