Dr. Heck told me I just needed old fillings replaced, and the treatment plan will cost me under $2k. I encourage anyone to a) get a second opinion always and b) see Dr. Heck! She is honest, and caring and kind and personable. I look forward to have my treatment plan done by her and I despise the dentist! Also, the office is comfortable and quiet which is the complete opposite of the other office I visited which was loud and chaotic.

The new plan was a healthier more cautious route as well as more cost effective. They have a "calming menu" where you can request a blanket, headphones, warm neck pillow, etc. for more comfort and dental anxiety which I think we all can agree that we all get! I came here after having a pretty terrible experience at Austin Artistic Dental ( 0/5 stars for AAD). I had to get a crown redone and the staff at LHD helped me feel very welcome and really listened to my concerns and we made a good plan of action to move forward with my crown. At AAD the dentist said I needed 3! crowns to replace some old fillings and that did not feel right to me. When I came to LHD they took some X-rays and said that I did not need the crowns but did need to re-do the fillings which I felt sounded correct. I got the crown fixed, 2 fillings (not amalgam fillings thank god too) and a cleaning done here. My dentist was Dr. Horter and she was just so great. She listened to what I thought about my own needs, validated my concerns and made suggestions that felt right. She worked carefully and took her time to get things right and I feel that she really cared to do a thorough and proper job, which I appreciate because I'm the one that has to live with the dental work. Also they never once asked me to leave a review or incentivized me with free items, which showed me that every 5 star review here is genuine. Also I absolutely love the atmosphere of the clinic and all the staff seem genuinely happy to be there. 10/10 highly recommend :)

I learned so much about myself and they were so thorough. Dr. Ip, Shae, and Grace were all such a pleasure. On this visit, I learned that I have a deviated septum and also a tight oral frenulum. These might be why I have breathing problems at night. The team was never pushy with trying to sell me on services or products which I really appreciated. They have such cool technology that really gives me an in depth overview of my oral health. The only thing I would recommend is if they played music in the lobby or something. It echoes and is awkwardly quiet in the lobby. I would absolutely recommend the dental office and will be back for my next check up/cleaning!

Although the dentists in the South Austin office are top-notch, they influence the office staff, and I am not too happy about that office. It seems that overcharging patients is normal here. In addition to the 3% for services billed using a patient's credit card, surprise bills are also possible. My health insurance often informs me before About Smiles does. Tiggy charged my card. I specifically asked her if I could alter my payment if I came back in soon. Yes, I was given that option. I returned later with a plan to use a debit card with NO 3% upcharge. Tiggy was busy so Peggy took my second transaction, I asked her if it was difficult, and she replied it was. BooHoo--BTW, Peggy seems like a candidate who does not work with patients much or at all. I apologized to Peggy. I WAS given the option to pay in another form, So I was there to pay with a debit card. Peggy billed the services as credit! Not as debit. Excuse me!! Here I follow the clinic instructions and am still out $23.00!!! I need the money, honey. I am not freely giving About Smiles one. more. cent. I am finished with About Smiles. My first visit to Walton dentistry was fantastic. The hygienist was super nice. I have mild sleep apnea and grind my teeth at night so I was interested in a mouth guard. Instead of just going with it, she explained that it was not covered by my insurance and talked to me about several alternatives. When Dr. Walton came in, he also talked to me about options and things I could try to help with my grinding and sleep issues. They were so caring. Unfortunately, I had a cavity so I had to visit again. Once again, they made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I even got to watch Netflix with headphones. I am so happy to have found them.

I received a text and email to fill out digital paperwork. I also received reminders as it got close to my appointment date. When I went into the office I was greeted by a friendly office manager. She checked me in. I was then called to go to the cleaning chair by a temporary hygienist. She was great. She explained everything to me as we went along. She took X-rays and then told me the doctor who would come in to check the status of my teeth and gums and then move on to the cleaning. The dentist explained to me what needed to be done. She had the office manager check with my insurance and then they brought a quote of the price to sign for what I needed done. Nothing was done without my knowledge. I signed the paperwork and the cleaning began. When cleaning she noticed an issue with my enamel on a tooth and told me she could fix it. I asked about cost and if I needed to schedule a separate appointment. The office manager checked with my insurance again and gave me the quote. I agreed and they were able to fix my issue.
