A beautiful spot!! We came here for a Saturday brunch and definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand! There is a beautiful garden section so also recommend asking for a table in this section when you go!! I ordered the pasta! And they were able to make my dish vegetarian friendly which is always a huge plus! The pasta was so fresh and flavorful, definitely check out this section of the menu! The staff and overall ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, but we were seated in the garden area on a cold day and they did not have heaters :/ since it was so cold we asked to be moved indoors which they were able to accommodate but even so it was very cold and made the experience uncomfortable. I have been going to Gnocco for over 20 years. The food is extraordinary! The price is not exorbitant! The cocktails are unique and delicious. The ambiance is elegant, warm and welcoming. I went here as part of a group of 4 people. We ordered the cheese plate to share, and it was the perfect amount of cheese for our party. The cheese plate was very well done, and included a nice selection of cheeses with fruit and sauce pairings. For my main, I had the gnocchi, which I believe is made fresh in-house. It was fantastic. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the ambiance. The outdoor (street) seating is okay, but I personally prefer the interior and garden seating. I think seating in the garden is pretty limited, so make sure to ask or include it in your reservation. This is my go-to recommendation for a date night but it also works for a small group of friends. I would recommend getting a reservation in advance, as they do tend to go pretty quickly, especially on Fri/Sat nights. My reservation was for a Friday night and I got my reservation that morning. Went here for a mid-week friend dinner date. We made a reservation but that was unnecessary as there were multiple tables available (though the place was by no means empty). My friend and I each a Moscow mule which while not on the cocktail menu that I noticed, they were completely prepared for, copper mugs and everything. We had the gnoccho, arrancini, eggplant parmigiana, and bufalina pizza. The gnoccho was a stand out item for sure; delicious fried dough with 3 different types of cured meats, it was a simple enough appetizer that really hit the spot perfectly. The bufalina pizza was my next favorite; it is a bit difficult to eat as the crust isn't very sturdy, it also was a bit salty... but I like salty and didn't mind it. I went there for dinner with my boyfriend. Initially the waitress was very nice and attentive. As soon as our food order was in it became difficult to get her attention again. To the extent she seemed annoyed when I ordered soda with my meal. Speaking of the meal, the rice balls appetizer was good, the salad were decent (huge so share one) but the main course was just average at best. $30 for a small piece of branzini that had no flavor. Apparently cheese is offered with pasta, no for us! We also had cocktails which were terrible! The drink tasted like nothing but cheap vodka with a splash of cheap juice for color. Ultimately, it was incredibly overpriced for what it was. The pizza looked good and might be worth trying but after spending $200 on mediocre food and terrible drinks, I doubt I'd go back. Oh and they charge an extra 4% for credit card use. Update: The owner's comment is completely false. I blocked the restaurant on Instagram after the owner called me names and harassed me. I was never followed by the restaurant, nor did I follow the restaurant, so there was no unfollowing involved. We have dined here several times and the food is very good. On this occasion, our service on the patio was terrible (the server admitted to forgetting about us), and the aftermath is pure insanity. The owner threatening to sue me over a negative Yelp review is just another reason to stay far, far away from this place and the people who run it. If you want decent carbonara with poor service and threats of a lawsuit, then this is your place. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants! All the food is super authentic and their pasta and pizza takes you right to Italy! I came here last night with my family and we had the most amazing meal. We came here about 4 years ago and have been talking abound the pizza ever since. We were so excited to come back! We were seated inside. It wasn't super crowded and we were properly distant from other parties. They give you ipads that have the menu on them. Each dish also has a picture, which was a really nice touch! To start, we had one of the special appetizers which was the truffle burrata. If you are a truffle lover like me, this is a must try! It was super flavorful and had truffle shavings on top. It comes with bread and it was a great start to the meal. We also got that Tartufata pizza to share. This was OUT OF THIS WORLD! My mom said it tasted just like pizza she had in Rome. The crust is thin, yet doughy and so good. All the flavors on the pizza combined together perfectly. To eat, I had the gorgonzola and walnut pasta. It was incredible! The creamy sauce had lots of gorgonzola flavor and the walnuts added a great crunch. My mom had the gnocchi and my sister had the truffle pasta. They both loved it! For dessert, we split the chocolate mousse cake. It was not too sweet and also had a nice hint of coffee flavor. We loved it and it was a great end to the meal! Yo, Gnocco is the bomb.com! Location is a hike from any subway, but it is WORTH the walk. This joint has it all from excellent wine, fire pasta dishes, and pizza that will blow your mind. Service was also great for our group of 8 on a Friday night no less! Very quick for the bottle of wine I snagged, and the dishes were no later than 10-15 minutes later. Wine: -Red Bled, see picture. Very light and went great with our dishes. Food: -Gnocchi. It. Was. Fresher than any outfit you'll see on the LES. -can't recall the name of the pizza, but I was plain cheese with spicy salami and pepperoni! So light and so fresh. Perfectly cooked. I ordered avocado toast and vegan foccacino pizza. Per the menu (picture below) it comes with red sauce. The order didn't come with sauce. Easy fix; I called the restaurant and asked them to please send the sauce. I was told that sauce didn't come with it and it would be extra. I stated that the menu said sauce was provided, the gentleman was unwavering. This could have been easily resolved, unfortunately it was not. (In response to the owner- as you can see by the picture the flat bread (I refer to as bread because that's what was delivered) that was sent had neither extra olive oil and herbs or red sauce. Sadly, the owner continues to double down..."Don't believe what you see, although you received a dried crust I'm telling you it is the white pizza topped with olive oil and herbs...although that's not what you ordered, or what you received"...le sigh!) Short review: Good dish sizes and well made traditional cocktails. Get the octopus. Pasta is fine. I didn't have the pizza. I went to this place with two others. The food was good and the service was nice though they were a bit pushy with ordering (they didn't wait long enough to ask.) The menus are on iPads which was different but welcome. They gave some bread to start which was good and served with olive oil mixed with a good balsamic vinegar. The bread portion was a bit small but they were fine with refilling. I usually don't add drinks to my food reviews outside of a small mention but their Old Fashioned was surprisingly good. It was well balanced. The other drink I had, a Sbagliato, was good also with some nice citrus notes. Excellent cocktails in short. Appetizers- Carpaccio di Polpo: Octopus, celery, pink peppercorns, lemon vinaigrette I personally ordered this. The dish was quite large for the price ($14) and could have easily been split. Very good octopus (very tender) though as expected for a carpaccio, it had a slightly fishy aftertaste. The dressing was OK but a bit too light. I would add more citrus to help balance Another person ordered the gnocco. The gnocco, which essentially is Italian frybread was served with a bunch of assorted meat and the meat makes it worth it for the price. The final person had an appetizer of the day which was a butternut squash soup. I tried a little and it was good. The appetizers in short were excellent. Mains- Reginette Gorgonzola e Noci- Homemade fresh pasta with Gorgonzola cheese sauce and walnuts. I have never had reginette before. It was linguine-like though with a different texture and cooked nicely al dente. The sauce was quite strong already and the extra parmesan added to it's richness. This dish could probably be shared as well as it got a bit too rich. It was essentially a fancy mac and cheese outside of the slight bit of walnuts. Another person had the branzino with shrimp which I tried a little of (it was fine.) The final person had the stuffed chicken which was fine also. The portion of these two dishes were nice also though the smallest was probably the chicken. Overall, the diner dishes were good. Dessert: After looking through the dessert menu, we settled on the dessert platter (as one person wanted the ricotta cheesecake and the other wanted the cantucci.) We each had our favorites. Torta di Ricotta- This was my personal favorite. The dish was nicely sour and had a good texture. The berries were good and added some nice sweetness. It was overall quite good. Cantucci di Prato: I've had brands of this type of cookie and the ones here were fine. They could have used a bit more almond but there was nothing to complain about. Torta al Cioccolato e Caffé: I found this to be my least favorite though I expected this going in. I found the dark chocolate to be a bit rich (it overpowered the coffee elements.) In short, it was a chocolate mousse cake and it was rich as per usual. The place overall was good. I found the appetizers to be more worth it than the mains but overall the food here was quite good. My friend and I split the gnocchi and a pizza. We asked for side plates to share and put servings of each on our plates. As I was putting gnocchi on my plate, I saw something thick in the sauce and assumed it was part of a basil stem. Unfortunately, it wasn't until I had finished eating that my friend asked me if it was a fly. Upon further inspection, we realized--yes, it was a dead fly that had been marinating in the sauce. I told our nice waiter about the fly. He immediately apologized and took it over to his boss. When he returned, he told me the fly must have just flown onto the plate while we were outside and not in the kitchen since it was on the side of the plate (clearly something his boss told him to relay). I explained it was on the side of the plate because I moved it with my fork to see if it was really a fly or a piece of basil. He repeated the same thing. So, not only was there a dead fly in the food I had unknowingly eaten around, but I was gaslighted as well. (Also that doesn't even make sense?? How would a fly land on my food and just die? Clearly, it landed in the sauce in the kitchen and the sauce was stirred and it drowned or was heated up. Ugh I feel sick writing this.) My family is in the restaurant business. If this ever happened to a customer, we would be apologizing relentlessly, offering to replace the meal, cover it, give free desserts, etc. That is not the experience you get here. This is very disappointing because I've come here several times and the atmosphere is great. I've spoken to the female owner on other occasions and she is such a nice lady. I've read the reviews talking about how ornery the owners can be and I ignored them because I thought they were being dramatic. But this is just cheap and disgusting. I thought I was going to throw up on the walk home. My friend and I came here based on my own high praise of this place, and it was embarrassing that they couldn't even cover a dish. It felt like a slap in the face, and not that it really matters, but especially when I've given them so much business. We were happy to get outdoor seating, and if the weather is bad, it looks like an awning can be pulled right over! We used Open Table to grab a table, and were seated immediately on time. Service was quick and had great insights into specials, drinks and selections. We started with the signature app -- it was a great meat tray! Along with wine and a mixed drink out among the lights and stars was very cool. Pizza was awesome - we shared 3 pies of a variety of toppings and sauces. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and was excited to try it out. The atmosphere was nice and the garden patio had a good vibe. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there. The three of us ordered Aperol spritzes. When they came out the waiter spilled all 3 drinks on my friend's lap. Accidents happen, totally understand. We moved tables and proceeded to order our food. We got the bill and realized we were still being charged for our drinks despite the fact that my friend had to sit through her meal soaked in aperol. We politely asked if we could have the drinks taken off of the bill (as is common courtesy). The managers refused and said that since they only spilled on one person, they could only take one drink off the bill. They were very rude and standoff-ish for what we felt was a pretty reasonable request. The food was fine. I got carbonara but it was basically scrambled eggs on spaghetti. I went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday with a friend and unfortunately left quite disappointed, uncomfortable, and upset. We started our meal by ordering three spritz drinks, which, when brought out to us, were spilled all over our table, resulting in me getting completely soaked alongside my friends who also got the drinks spilled on them. We were then told we could switch tables, which we did since the one we were at was completely covered in liquid. Once at the new table, I was offered a few napkins for my clothing. We ordered our meals, received new drinks, & ate our food. When we received the check, we were quite astonished to see that nothing had been taken off the itemized list, not even the drinks. Since I was still entirely soaked throughout the meal, we decided to go up to the manager to ask if we could get some compensation for this occurrence (get at least the drinks taken off the bill). Once finding the manager, we were met with push back, one member of the team stating "we are only compensating one drink, since she did not spill the drinks three times". Basically, since I was the only one who got completely drenched in the beverages, mine was the only one being comp'd. I live in Brooklyn, which has a ton of great Italian options, but I still frequent Gnocco in the East Village after many years. Most recently I had an early dinner here on a Saturday and was seated quickly with no reservation and a minimal wait time. My husband and I love the variety of wine options and the backyard (it's so cozy). Personally, I'm not getting other reviews about the food not being good, every time I've been here it's been exceptional.
