Rosemary's East is our go-to restaurant when visiting relatives on the lower east side, with consistently excellent food and service, including accommodations for gluten-free in which the restaurant identifies the table and seat number requiring extra care. On our most recent visit, our server Alvaro took good care of us. The Brussels Sprouts appetizer paired well with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. We moved our table due to a fan blowing in our face- we asked our waiter to slightly move the fan and he became VERY upset. We moved to the back of the restaurant where we had no breeze and an EXCELLENT waitress! We both had the Summer Restaurant Week Special- which was superb in quantity and quality for the price! The ambience inside is OK- fairly upscale crowd for the neighborhood. In Spring and Fall, nice to eat Al fresco on the 20th Street side where the car traffic is less contentious. Had a delicious dinner with a friend recently at Rosemary's East. It's not my first meal there, and I just realized that I've been remiss in not posting a well deserved good review. We shared the Focaccia Caprese, which was very good. I ordered two vegetable dishes, Crispy Artichokes and Rosemary Potatoes. Both had good flavor, but the potatoes suffered from a less than crisp exterior. My friend loved her Farmers Market Greens salad (to which she added grilled chicken). From my previous visits to Rosemary's East I can also recommend Calamari Fritti, Olives, Pizza Margherita, Grilled Branzino and Meatballs. The service was excellent; it always is. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays and the waitstaff were all wearing festive party hats. It was a great vibe. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: Stinger pizza: 9/10 the dough was sooo soft! Loved the honey with the pepperoni Truffle focaccia with ricotta: 9/10 My favorite of the appetizers. I love anything truffle and the combination of the whipped ricotta and soft focaccia really did it for me Rigatoni: 7.5/10 delicious sauce! I think it was like a calabrian chile or something like that Vodka pasta: 8/10 sauce was sooo creamy and yummy. I went here for the first time on the last night of Restaurant Week, and I loved everything about it. From the greeter at the door to the waiters and busboys, the staff was working incredibly hard and doing a fantastic job. Everything I had was delicious: the chopped salad Siciliana (a must), the branzino with borlotti beans and escarole (a perfect combination), and the olive oil cake with blueberries. Even the coffee afterwards was good. I also really liked the fact that I saw diners of all different ages: from seniors with walkers to young children to solo diners to couples on date night. There are a few Rosemary's locations in Manhattan. One near Chelsea's, one at Gramacy off of Stuytown on East 23rd Street and another one in midtown. I have been to the Stuytown location multiple times with family. The space is pretty big with a visible open kitchen. A couple of years ago, there was also a coffee shop in the north end of the restaurant. It has been closed since. Every time you order a coffee, if you're dinning in the restaurant, you'll see waiters/waitresses going there to grab the coffee in that corner. The best way I can describe Rosemary is like the Italian version of Jack's Wife Freda. The restaurant is elegant, drinks are great (they do have a really nice bar) - Almost every drink comes with a leaf of Rosemary and a pretty diverse menu from getting a personalized pizza to pasta to sandwiches. Rosemary is a nice luncheon spot for friends. Average price per dish is about $20-$25/entree. Almost every meal has Focaccia bread with it. There is also an interesting dessert called Olive Oil cake besides your average tiramisu, but it really is just a blueberry muffin...in my opinion. The service is on and off depending on the day. On a busy Saturday, you can expect the service to be a little slower because they have attend to customers sitting in the inside and outside; and because the layout is pretty spread out, it's a bit awkward to grab items depending on what the customers ordered (like a cup of coffee would require the staff to grab it on the north end of the restaurant, a drink on the east side at the bar). Overall, don't go there at 3pm-4pm because that's when lunch ends, and they are transitioning to dinner. The menu is limited during that hour. read more

Came for the Inciardi mini print vending machine and it happened to be NYC summer restaurant week! Food was pretty good but the meal took almost 2 hours. My friend and I went for the $30 3-course dinner. My artichoke was delicious and one of my favorite bites as of late, but man, service was sooooo slow between the second and third course, and even slower after we finished dessert and were waiting for the check. At one point I asked a server if they had the Inciardi machine since I hadn't seen it and he said he'd ask and come back - he never did. To get our check, a server said he'd bring it - he also never came back. Finally my friend was able to catch another server's attention and he brought us our check. Loved my friend's fusilli, definitely recommend that. Her salad (forget the name but it had fried, tomatoes, chickpeas) was alright but we wish the chickpeas had more flavor - it seemed they were just drained and added. My chicken main dish was well cooked but also missing some flavor. For dessert my friend ordered the olive oil cake (recommend) and I had the mango sorbet (pretty good but not as good as the cake). In terms of ambiance, it's a cute space with dim mood lighting and seemed like a popular date spot and spot for girlfriends to get drinks and have a slow meal. We ended up getting a last minute reservation at this location. The dining room is beautiful and they have a huge patio. We sat outside and had a great meal! I booked a table for five on Thursday, February 19, at 6:30 pm. The interior was beautiful. Our server was very attentive and checked about food allergies twice. She came around every ten minutes or so to refill our water glasses with a glass bottle. The chicken itself was well prepared, but the bed of greens was similar to that of the Branzino. As a regular, l was hoping for a different flavor profile. However, the real disappointment was the salmon steamed with fennel - had very little flavor. My friend didn't even finish it (which for a man says a lot.) 4 stars overall but 5 stars for their two course lunch special where you can get a pizza or pasta with salad for $29 (dine in only). I have dined in for lunch a few times as well as ordered delivery and the pizza is delicious either way (holds up surprisingly well with delivery but I guess it depends on how far it has to travel). I have not tried the pastas, but people I have dined with have enjoyed them. The service is friendly and the restaurant is pretty spacious, with two floors and has nice light and decor. Definitely a great spot for lunch if you want something a little nicer without being too fancy or expensive. My favorite pizza by far is the stinger, though the others I have tried are still very tasty (margherita, cacio pepe, truffle proscuitto). They do a nice job on their crust and the pizzas are the size you'd expect for one person. Most people would be satiated/full with a single pizza for lunch. It took me years after they opened this location of Rosemary's for me to drop in for dinner despite spending so much time on this block. I was a big fan of the original Rosemary's in Greenwich Village when I was much younger and easily charmed by their rooftop farm. Urban garden, raising chickens, and cooking with the herbs you grew on a small plot in the middle of Manhattan got me opening my wallet with the quickness. I'm a bit wiser and much more cynical these days, but I wanted to be open-minded and see if Rosemary's East could charm my tastebuds. Sadly, it didn't. We all know that beautiful decor doesn't always translate to delicious food, in fact there's often a negative correlation between the two, and that applies here. Good calamari has flavor in the batter-- this one didn't have much of that though I will say they use real squid, so that's good. I'm not the biggest fan of white pies but know cacio e pepe has enough hard cheeses in it to give it more salty umami flavor, but this was also one note. The kale caesar I just ordered for something fresh to cut the heaviness of the calamari and cacio e pepe pizza but you'd think they'd be able to zhuzh it up. I liked the golden beets appetizer though. My dining companion and I held onto one last shred of hope for their kitchen and ordered a dessert-- the olive oil cake, which came with fresh whipped cream and raspberry sauce. This was better than the other items on the menu, but hardly memorable. Places like this are always packed and Rosemary's is no exception. There's even often a waitlist. The space is beautiful and I bet they make a solid aperol spritz. Stopping in for that and mindlessly eating their bland calamari doesn't sound like the worst way to spend an afternoon. read more

We went on a Sunday at noon and was pleasantly surprised--no wait at all, which already made my day. We tried the Eggplant Caponata, Rosemary's Focaccia, and the absolute star of the meal--the Burrata. The Burrata was hands-down my favorite. It was so creamy, and the roasted peppers at the bottom were the perfect little touch to complement the flavors. If you're going, you have to order this! The Focaccia was fantastic--fluffy, flavorful, and much bigger than I expected. It was so good, but we couldn't finish it all (and trust me, we tried). The Eggplant Caponata rounded out the meal beautifully with its sweet and tangy balance--such a lovely dish. The servers were super friendly and made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. If I could give this beyond 5 stars, I would. It's a bigger restaurant and we were super happy to be able to walk right in on a Sunday night. Farm to table is my thing. I love anything fresh and authentically in season and grown close to home. This is the place for that. The dim lighting, light wood look everywhere really gives it a natural and comfortable vibe yet still moody. The menu mentions they source some of their ingredients from their rooftop garden - not sure how it gets better than that in the middle of NYC. The menu is so fresh and seasonal. It took me 20 minutes to even decide on my order. There were way too many things I was dying to try. Everyone's dishes at nearby tables, especially the pastas, had us drooling. I settled on the whipped burrata and harvest salad with grilled chicken. Amazing. The whipped burrata was so fluffy and the bread was thick and airy. The sweet chilled peppers on the bottom absolutely made the dish. Highly recommend. The salad was also fantastic. They put creamy ricotta over day old bread and sprinkled truffle on top. The bread was staler than a week-old baguette at a gluten-free convention. I literally just ran home from Rosemary's after our Thanksgiving dinner- I cannot recommend it enough, the food was spectacular and it was quite honestly the best Thanksgiving meal I've ever had. For $68 pp, the meal includes: - Small cured meats board (including mortadella with pistachio pesto, prosciutto, some grapes, and focaccia with a parmegiano dipping sauce) -Turkey (both white and dark meat) with a super flavorful gravy and cranberry sauce -Stuffing made out of focaccia (GENIUS) with chestnuts -Pureed sweet potato -Crispy roasted brussels sprouts flavored with hot honey -A fantastic pumpkin cake for dessert- think a soft, moist muffin topped with pumpkin seeds with mascarpone Just with this, I thought it was a really good deal.
