So much fun! I had never been to a course like this and it was awesome. I went with a group of adults and kids age 12-17. Kids under a certain age (I think 15) must have an adult next to them at all times. Yes, it is expensive for adults, $58, but worth it. You start with a rather long safety presentation, but it is necessary. You are not closely supervised while on the course, which is awesome but a little scary at first. However, there are workers nearby if you ever needed to yell out a question or something. The course seems to be broken into different parts, all of which begin with a climb up a ladder and end with a zip line. Most of the time, you are walking across different kinds of rope bridges of varying difficulty. There are some areas that were super challenging for me, as someone with practically no upper body strength. But you know you are safe the entire time so it's ok if you mess up. I loved the challenge. Anyone physically healthy will probably be fine, although sore the next day. :) I wish I could do this course as a workout every day!! The course was the perfect length. I was starting to get worn out by the time it ended. Some tips -The back of your shirt and pants will get quite dirty because you'll drag on the ground when you land after the zip line. Stretchy yoga/exercise capris are good choice. Be prepared to be dirty and bring a change of clothes if you need to look presentable afterwards. -You don't wear a helmet, so you could wear a hat if you felt like it. -Definitely wear sneakers or rugged shoes, like hiking shoes. -Don't bring ANYthing on the course you don't need. Leave your phone in the car (unless you want it for taking photos, but have a way to secure it to your body.) -Don't bring water on the course because there are water cups available in a few areas. -You may find some mysterious bruises and scrapes the next day and be sore. read more

This is a great place to go with a few friends or for a fun date. It's also good for family outings -- from what I observed of the other families, the bravest ones were actually the little 13 year olds who were impatiently waiting for their moms to hurry up so that they could move on to the next station. I don't know that I would bring younger kids along though, because throughout the whole course, you are in charge of making sure that your safety harness is clipped onto the rope correctly and safely, and that you always are connected to one of the ropes (aka don't mindlessly unhook both of your belt buckles at once). Your progress is based on you. You can go as fast or slow as you want. There's an instructor who walks you through the safety training at the beginning, and then you're off! I appreciated that the training wasn't slow and boring. There are plenty of staff walking around the different stations if you ever need help or feel stuck. Some of the stations have "harder" and "easier" options to get to the next station. The harder ones are definitely difficult. There's also a giant zipline at the very end of the course! As for what to bring/wear: tennis shoes and pants you don't mind getting dirty if you're not an expert zipline-hit-the-ground-running-on-your-feet person. Don't bring sunglasses along unless you can secure them; the treetops offer enough shade so that there never was a need for me to use my sunglasses. I brought along my cellphone for pictures, but was only comfortable doing so because I had a secure pocket. At the bottom of some of the stations, you can put stuff down, but you might not want to walk all the way back to that station to get it. Went here with my son and had a lot of fun!! You get a good workout climbing trees and getting from place to place. This was set up in 5 sections and at the end of each section you get the reward of zip lining! We really enjoyed it. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They are big on safety and make sure everyone goes through training. I would suggest not going on a hot summer day if you don't like to sweat because even though you're in the woods it can be sweltering. I would have liked to zip line into a pool! They did have water coolers at every section which was life saving - thank you! read more

I was pressured to join my coworker to do this. We were in NC for a 1 week training course and Go Ape was the only attraction we could fit in before we had to go back home. For $60 the 5 courses of tree top adventure(tree top obstacle and mini zip line) it was well worth it. This is not as scary at as to the zipline I've been to at Costa Rica. You are only 20-30 feet in the air. I suggest to wearing long jeans or athletic wear. The end of the zipline is wood mulch to brake your fall. 3 of the 5 landings looked and felt like a meteor landing. My landing trail were huuuuge. Luckily I did not sustain any injury. We didn't bring gloves or bought gloves that were available for purchase. Lifting gloves would have been suitable. My coworker had no fear and cheated. Instead of climbing and trying at the obstacles she would pull herself across because she was tired. You are strapped on with 2 cables and a pulley so if you do fall you can pull yourself across. I have a big fear of heights so purposely fall was out of my zone of comfort. The bathroom is shared the park. Its across the field. There's water jug to hydrate in between the courses. Insect repellent would have been nice because I'm like a walking buffet to them. I would try other Go Ape places if they are nearby as more and more are opening up. Shout out to Cameron our guide. He was cool, calm, and collected. He was very patient with us and didn't intimidate the guest. And he was funny and made the experience fun. read more

This was a great time for our four adventurous kids ages 10-13. Because of their age, we had to go on the trail, too. For this overweight, out of shape 50 year old lady, I found the Tree top course to be challenging and I needed more upper body strength. The kids had no problems and really had fun! You must be switched as there are no guides up in the trees with you and safety is very important. I would suggest some sort of breaking system for the end of the zip lines. Landing on my back and getting dragged for ten feet through damp mulch is not a fun way to break the landing. Blue Jay Point where Go Ape is located is so nice this time of year. read more

My 6 year old daughter and I did the junior treetop course. Staff was amazing! There was a group of about 6 people waiting to go on the zip line. One was scared to go so that took a significant amount of time waiting. No big deal. They let her go down the zip line once more after her time had expired. Had an excellent time with a friend of mine. If you want to challenge yourself, complete a bucket list item, or just do something different, I would recommend trying the zipline/tree top course. We did the safety stuff, took our time. The instructor was excellent and thorough. It gave us the necessary know how to successfull navigate the course on our own with guides staff patrolling the stations nearby to assist if needed. We completed it in 3 hours from arrival to driving off the parking lot. We paid about $47/person due to a Labor Day coupon they had on their website we took advantage of. Visited Go Ape with my husband shortly after its grand opening and was able to take advantage of a discount (regular price is a bit steep at $57). Online booking was a breeze, and we arrived early as instructed. This is definitely recommended, as you'll want to use the restroom before strapping on your gear... and the park's facilities are a bit of a hike from the Go Ape check-in point. The parking lot and trailer (currently... I think they are eventually getting a more permanent structure for ticket sales and check in) are directly beneath the zip line finale. Fun to see folks whizzing in, concluding their adventure. The website estimates 2-3 hours to complete the course, and we finished smack in the middle at 2.5. The first 30 minutes of that were spent getting the gear on, educated as to the components, and then running through the training course -- a mini version of various elements and obstacles you'll encounter along the way. I found this session very informative, and it helped put me at ease with how to operate the carabiners and pulleys, and what to expect once I got under way. The construction in Blue Jay Park feels quite natural; the elements blend in to the surroundings, and take full advantage of the towering hardwoods.The course starts at a moderate height but gradually sends you higher and on more challenging obstacles. At a few points, there are "choose your own adventure" paths, allowing you to select the level of difficulty. There are several zip lines which bring you fully to the ground before you climb up to the next session. As these zip lines grow taller and longer, the landing grows harder and ouchier. I didn't land face forward on my feet even once! Was really glad I had on pants and long sleeves, as the runway is a heap of woodchips and not so comfy! My favorite element was the Tarzan swing in which you grasp onto a rope and 'freefall' swing from treetop to cargo net. The pace of the course was pretty good the day we went. Our timeslot had ~10 people in it, but once we got started, this thins out due to the 2-people-on-a-platform restriction. Despite the restriction, we didn't do too much waiting around either; the course would get a little congested in some areas, like ladder climbs or particularly taxing crossings. This was our first ropes experience, and we had a total blast. We wound up trying a course in Greensboro, but thought it paled in comparison to this one. The only improvements that could be made would be to provide gloves (the ropes are tough on the hands) and lockboxes (for your loose belongings. We left ours with the "front desk" in the trailer, which I'm sure was pretty secure. But after we completed the course and went to pick up our items, there was no one working in the trailer; we wound up having to wait a while for an employee to return so we could get our things). Minor nits, but improvements that would bump my next visit up to 5 stars! read more

I definitely went nuts during my time here. I'm sure everyone in raleigh heard me scream as I zip lined through this This place isn't just about zip lining. To zip line, you'd have to climb trees, go through obstacles, and do some Tarzan swings to name a few. It was such a fun and adrenaline-pumping experience. The first 15 minutes of it involves a guide teaching you the basics. After that, you get to freely be up in midair with your friends! My only wish is that they'd have more zip-lining opportunities throughout their course. It runs at about $60 per person which is rather pricey but it'll give you 2 to 3 hours worth of adventure. So this was my second time ever ziplining and first time on a ropes course and I had a good time. I will say that after filling out the waiver and signing my life away, I was really apprehensive that we didn't have an instructor with us throughout the course. However, once you get a hang of it and know what you're doing it's not a big deal and it's nice to go at your own pace. I'd be really nervous taking any kids or teenagers with me on this though. Things I wish I had: bug spray, gloves, camera. I also wish the course was a bit longer, but it was a decent length for the price. Definitely had a lot of fun and would probably do this again. We had a great time at Go Ape. Rob was our guide and was awesome. Very patient and cool guy. It was probably 99 degrees outside, but at least the adventure was in the forest under shade. The humidity is what got us, not the sun. But it was still very fun. They have gloves for sale, but bring your own. you dont NEED them, but they will definitely be a help. you dont need anything fancy, maybe some workout gloves or something. This is great for families or for people trying to overcome their fear of heights. We will be going again for sure. At the last stage, make sure you try the free-fall into the big net (it will be part of the black course). read more

Super fun adventure for adults and kids. This place is a great space to blow off some extra energy or get your daily workout in! The adult course is super fun and you are self-paced. No instructor to guide you so you're responsible for your own safety and changing your lines. The course took about an hour after the safety demo but could be longer depending on the speed of the group you are with or behind. The junior course does not require you to switch your rigging as you are fully locked in on a pulley system the whole time. The obstacles are about 20' off the ground, about half the height of the adult course. Even adults were enjoying the junior course and it's great for someone who isn't sure about doing the big course. Totally fun time for everyone regardless of athletic ability. My husband and I went to Go Ape with our adult son and 3 of his friends. It was something different to do, and we all enjoyed it (some more than others ). You start out with a short safety briefing, then your group is turned loose on the course. The guide is nearby if you need assistance, but doesn't hover. The course is broken up into several sections that start with a ladder climb, an obstacle course or 2, and then ends with a zip line. I think that there are 5 zips in all. Unlike other zipline courses that I've done, you don't land on a platform at the end of the zip. You land in mulch- the back of your shirt and pants will get dirty, so don't wear white! You don't need to take water on the course, this is provided. The course requires a fair amount of leg strength. Some of us were a little sore the next day. I would do this again, and would bring out of town guests here for something unique to do. The day that we went was very warm, even in the shade of the tree canopy. I would like to do it in cooler weather. For adults, a little pricey- $58 pp. Takes about 2 hours to complete. read more

My family does mystery trips and we decided to have one to celebrate my niece and nephew's birthdays. We gave the kids several clues throughout the day and they had a blast! My sister and brother-in-law and husband got in on the fun too. Lots of great videos of the ziplines and obstacles. The Tarzan swing may have been the highlight. They're really into Ninja Warrior and it was a beautiful day in the woods so those things combined with what a unique experience this it made it a win-win! I've been to other zip line parks, and I have one complaint about this one. The zip line landings are brutal, especially the last one. I've never had that experience elsewhere. Otherwise, it was great. Easily 5 stars if not for those landings. Everyone I saw just kind of got dragged along on the ground. Several people mention the hard landings here on Yelp, and they really aren't kidding. They need to fix this because someone will eventually end up getting hurt. read more

So much fun! It was easy to learn. I triple checked before stepping foot on anything just cause I'm like that but boy was this great. Aside from all the food I eat I'm in great physical shape and I loved all the extreme challenges. I went with my parents as a little enjoy basic training type of thing. They're in their 40s and found it great to do. They point out what to do if you zip line backwards and wheres the fun if you don't make a little mistakes and fall while landing haha. I don't suggest shorts! Go with yoga, sweats, or jeans. If you have a funky Landon you'll thank me. Imagine wood chips on revealed skin. Also my hands are already jacked up from weights so if you're worried about your hands, but the gloves they have there or bring your own. Bring out your inner ape! read more

The groups are a great size so you aren't waiting in line for other people and there's opportunity to pass people up if needed (course is broken up into several portions). You are set free after safety training to complete the course on your own at your own pace which is exhilarating. This is harder than it make look! It was fun but be prepared to break a sweat. You will challenge yourself because you want to do the more difficult courses and then realize it is really hard! Go Ape at Blue Jay Point takes 3 hrs which is good and you feel that you get your money's worth, however, the 5 zip lines have very hard landings. There are no brakes so you basically stop with a body slam into wood chips. I came in backwards most of the time and it nearly knocked the air out of me and when I finally came in facing forward, I sprang my knee and still got whipped around into my back. It seems to me that simply raising the attachment height at the end of the zip would slow you down. Another possibility it some kind of catch on the zip line that would automatically brake. I'll drive to Navitat next time. read more

Totally enjoyed this experience! The location is ideal, situated in Blue Jay Park with each stage surrounded by greenery. The safety intro by Tori, our guide, was very comprehensive. She was there for most of the challenges; we could hear other people with guides so there's always backup within shouting distance. We were the only two for our 9am time slot which was great! Going early morning midweek was ideally quiet plus we didn't have to wait for other potentially slower guests. The ladders and platforms get progressively higher as does each obstacle. I slipped and dangled from one foot crossing but was totally supported by the safety harness/clips, was able to regain my balance. I heartily recommend this to adventurers and athletic types. You've got to be in good physical shape with above average upper body/arm strength, essential to climb as well as use the rope supports. Age is no obstacle - my daughter is 32, I'm 62, we both work out, that helped! Like another reviewer, I thought there would be more zip lines; it was more challenging overall than expected but I still had a blast. You DO need snug fitting gloves; bug spray ok, we didn't use it and were ok. Improvements I'd like to see before next time: Photography! Taking a cell phone along is risky, there's no way to really secure it so it would be ideal if Go Ape could take/provide photos to capture and share the adventure. Water: iced water jugs needed in summer heat, it was mostly warm. Zip lines: more of them! and as previously noted, raise the height at the end to avoid landing/sliding on backs and butts. So super fun! We spent 3 hours here laughing and zipping through the treetops. I was nervous about no helmets but that nervousness was for nothing. People are there all the time if you needed help. The zips and challenges were so super fun and changed up in terms of level of difficulty. The customer service is world class. Seriously. We had great service at the venue as well as over the phone. Our family went to Go Ape in Raleigh NC yesterday and it was amazing! Our little girl is 4.5 years old and just tall enough to do the Junior course. From the second we arrive the staff was amazing! Our guides name was Joe and he made sure we were all safe in our harnesses and went over the instructions with us in a way a 4.5 year old could understand. It took us the whole time to complete the entire Junior course. Of course our little one was a little nervous. The staff was super encouraging! They cheered her on as she went on some of the most difficult obstacles. She was super scared at the last obstacle where her little legs were just not long enough to make the stretch and daddy had to hold her up the whole way across. Not only did all the staff cheer her on as she went when we got down one of the staff members told us to do the zip line one more time (even though our time had expired). She figured we should end on a positive note so my little one would want to come back. It definitely worked! The zip line was by far my little ones favorite! We had such a great time! We will be back soon and mommy and daddy are planning on completing the adult course next time! read more
