The whole lobby is covered in tile from wall to wall and the lights were bright giving it an institutional feel. Seemed like the store was pretty clean. Nothing bad to report as far as cleanliness goes as it appeared pretty clean. The service was probably the best thing about this establishment. I didn't really like that they didn't have lobby access to napkins, condiments, or drinks so I had to ask the staff everything I needed a napkin or refill. The food wasn't good. Ordered the gizzards and they had clearly been sitting in the warmer for quite some time. The breading was falling off to where almost every piece had skin exposed somewhere. Was super excited to try the chicken here, but it made me sad. The bun on the chicken sandwich was rock hard, we could barely bite into it. They also got both orders wrong which was a bummer. Go-Chicken-Go has ALWAYS been a staple of mine! One of my friends dated a girl who worked here years ago, she was always bringing everyone food. The food is delicious and you get a good bang for your buck! I moved to L.A. for some years, but every trip back to Kansas City, I had to swing by Go-Chicken-Go! First off the price online for a 15 mixed piece value meal is $26.02, BUT on the drive thru menu the price is over $34.00 as of 08/08/2021. They didn't give me the lower price. The value meal includes; 15 piece mixed, 2-large sides and 8 rolls. Besides that, I also ordered a half pack of gizzards, hot carrots, extra g sauce and two cobs of corn. I get home and they forget my rolls and carrots. I send my nephew to go get the rolls after speaking with the manager while I make the kids plates. He brings the rolls back and one of the rolls has bite marks in it. He calls this time to complain and plainly states he's not wanting anything free but to make a complaint and the Manager Greg calls him a liar. Greg says it's because of the tongs. Really? I grew up on GCG and the rolls are super soft, so why would you have to pinch off two pieces on the same roll? It was really that hard to grab with tongs? Not only that but you would serve a roll that looked like that - like it was bitten into? Your "value" meal is on the more expensive end of the scale and I expect the best quality for a $34+ dollar bucket of chicken. It's really hard to enjoy a meal when you have to question the cleanliness and quality of a restaurant. Now I feel that I can't call to get items you forgot to pack, but I paid for, because I have to worry if your establishment is going to be petty and pull crap like this - especially during a pandemic? This was my first time to eat at a Go Chicken Go. It's kind of secluded, but I found it one Yelp, and didn't feel like cooking that night. When I saw it, I knew it would be dinner. I had gone to a shop nearby, and I was in the area. I bought enough chicken for 4 of us. The price was in keeping with the popular national chain. I had baked beans for my side, and a bucket of chicken breasts. I'm used to chicken being swathed in breading. This was lightly coated, with slight seasoning. I'm pretty sure I like more breading on it. The breasts were uniform, but small. Almost too small. I don't have large hands, and they were about palm sized. I got 6 rolls, which were just okay. The rolls tasted like regular dinner rolls, nothing special. The baked beans rocked it. They put the A in baked beans, as in kick ass. I kind of wished I'd bought more. Heck, I would eat just the baked beans. I wish Go Chicken Go had chicken and waffles. I think the combination would be excellent. read more

Their mash potatoes is very tasty as well. I like that the gravy is chicken flavor. The management has changed over the years. Therefore, many things have changed along with it. A full box of gizzard used to be a full small box but now it's weighed and barley half a box. They should consider keeping the old tradition of having a full remain a full box. My favorite place to go when I want crispy chicken gizzards and liver!! This location is less than 5 minutes away from my house on Shawnee Dr and 635 highway. So I come here often to get the 1/2 mix of chicken gizzards and livers with an extra hot sauce called G-sauce which is what makes the food here so good! Without the extra hot sauce the 1/2 mix cost $4.95. If I am super hungry I like to order a leg and a thigh pieces + 1/2 mix for $8.88. The chicken pieces are very small compared to other fried chicken places. However, the chicken skin is really crispy with great flavor and even more amazing with the G-sauce! They do have a G-Sauce bottle that they sell for about $7-9, however it doesn't quite taste the same as the one they give in a to-go sauce container. I would recommend if you want more sauce to just order a side of it for an additional $0.60. It has a drive thru that goes through fairly quick. Some days it can be busy during lunch or dinner and may have to wait 5 to 10 minutes. There is also the option to go inside and dine. This is definitely one of my top fried chicken places I go to regularly, definitely check it out if you are in the Kansas City area and love fried chicken!! read more

How have I never given this place a shot?! I've read reviews and had friends tell me the food was yummy, but I still never would try it. Today, I decided to hit the drive thru and sample a few things. First of all, I have like 100 pounds of leftovers after spending about $11. I got a HALF order of gizzards, which I think could feed an army. I've eaten tons of gizzards in my life and have never had ones that were so tender. They were fantastic. The G-Sauce is okay, but wasn't necessarily my taste. I ended up mixing some honey that I had at home with the sauce and that was really, really yummy. I got a two piece snack, that I can't even taste because I'm too full from eating about 1/2 of the gizzards. It looks great though. For the sides, I got mashed potatoes (not too impressed) and cole slaw (I'm a cole slaw snob, so I'm really hard to please) was edible. I will go back for gizzards often. I'll be honest, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Go-Chicken-Go. The sides are okay but just that, okay. The chicken is great and I'm pretty happy about the inclusion of those wraps. Those are by far my favorite item now. I love the G sauce. My bias against this spot is because the other ones just seem more homey & friendly. I've never really had a bad experience at this spot but the other spots that I've been too just seem more inviting. My mixed two piece "snack" was delicious. The chicken was moist and tasty without being greasy. I also liked that the chicken was served warm, and not at the same temperature as hot cooking oil like at some other places. The mashed potatoes and buttered roll were just okay. Heard about this KC original. While Uber driving I brought it up with some locals. They love the place. Even pointed out their rolls and "yellow" gravy. As a chef with lots of experience and travel under my belt I have to say meh! Chicken has nice crispness and zero flavor. The yellow nuclear glowing gravy is some cheap chicken base and water thickened with cornstarch. Also meh. The rolls are ok. Rudimentary basic rolls. If they actually make them from scratch they're ok but I have a feeling they're out of the freezer. The gizzards and livers were ok but also unseasoned. As are the wings. I got to say that I love the fried chicken here. It's tasty just on its own but I like it even more with some of the G-Sauce that they sell (just go ahead and buy the whole bottle, $3.49). The G-Sauce is their version of a hot sauce flavored with jalapeños and well, ketchup. We usually order a 15 piece order for a family meal and also get a full order of fried livers (you can also get gizzards or ask for a mix of the two). The chicken here is a little more expensive but I don't mind since it's tastier than any other fast food chicken chain including the one a couple blocks away that also sells those tacos made with a caulking gun. Some of the sides are good like the potato salad and coleslaw. I have only been to this location so I don't know if any of the other ones are better or worse. Some of cons about this place are the generic commercial rolls smothered with a questionable butterlike substance. Something baked fresh like biscuits I think would be better. Also, I'm not a fan of the very thin yellow/orangelike gravy. Give me a thick brown gravy (ok Colonel, you might have a leg up here) over this sad excuse for gravy any day. My husband and I stopped in here after reading that the KC Star readers voted this the top chicken place in KC. Fried chicken is one of our favorites and we have many trusted stops in KC and throughout the south. This restaurant wouldn't even be in my top 10, honestly. It was dry, poorly seasoned, and came with some gross gravy covered potatoes. We ordered two snack sized meals with two breasts. Which are actually one breast split in two. We arrived right at 11am and the chicken tasted like it had been cooked and sitting in the warming oven for hours. Very unlike Strouds or Gus's where they cook your chicken to order and it arrives hot and juicy to the table. Of all the chicken places, this is my favorite. Their simple fried chicken flavor is excellent, and it's clean tasting - not greasy. Their mashed potatoes and yellow gravy is addicting! The rolls are a classy and stupid-good touch; finding that roll next to a pile of fried chicken is a grown-up version of a happy meal. The livers and gizzards are revered by KC natives as the bees veritable knees, so try that - if fried rubber bands from dead birds is your thing. I'm not down with that, because I like to eventually swallow food after chewing 100 times. People chew gum though, so I guess it's something like that. Best quick chicken in Kansas City. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is, the various restaurants can be slightly sketch. It can also feel like a 1950's ER: very sterile, and easily cleanable. For all we know, they could butcher the chickens in their "Patrick Bateman style" dining room, spray it down with a hose, and viola, open for service. The workers could sometimes be more cordial, but they have great fast chicken, so who cares. Get some money, buy that awesome flimsy checkered red box with the roadrunner on it, and tear up some chicken and gravy. It's so convienient too - the design of the box with the way food is placed. There are times in a persons life when you just really have a hankering for fried chicken. When that time comes I head to this place every time not to the fried chicken giant known as KFC. I don't want some pretentious restaurant either. I just want some fried chicken, mashed potatoes and instant chicken gravy and semi questionable surroundings. Go Chicken Go definitely delivers on that. I am personally not a fan of livers and gizzards but everyone in my family loves them. I generally go for either a breast or leg. The gizzards and livers came out quick and I quickly saw why. They were not fresh at all, barely even warm. But, they still had a crunch to them which made it a bit better. The gizzards were chewy and tasted great, so were the livers. Their g-sauce goes very well with the gizzards/livers to my surprise. I also ordered the gravy which was very disappointing. I was expecting a thicker/creamier gravy instead I got a water down cup that looked like oil mixed with ground pepper. All in all, I would still come back to G-C-G to get gizzards/livers if I was craving them enough considering the price and ease of finding. If these were fresh out of the fryer, they would have been awesome. The seasoning and batter they use is pretty good. I am use to getting gizzards from Bush's chicken in Texas (which are amazing). But, I have to make due with whats available and G-C-G is good enough in my book. If you're a fan of chicken livers and gizzards, go to your nearest G-C-G and try it out. This is the absolute BEST GCG I've ever been to! They fixed my problem and have outstanding customer service.

Went to this location last Friday and not one employee including the manager were wearing their masks properly. All had their noses exposed and saw one employee walking around behind the counter with his mask around his chin. My boyfriend and I went here for a late dinner and ordered the wing pack and it came with some pretty good sized wings, but we also ordered an individual sized Mac n Cheese and it was super tiny for a 1.50. But oh well, it was still good otherwise, the chicken was perfectly cooked and had good flavor. What makes it 3 stars for me was the fact that the brand wasn't super original and you could pretty much find it anywhere else for cheap. Okay. I've read the same reviews as you. Heard the same accolades. But I've been burned before, right? 'Oh, suchsandsuch is sooo good,' 'best in town,' 'five stars not enough.' The more you hear the more suspicious you get, frankly. And I was plenty suspicious enough. Still, I was hungry and it was ages since I'd had gizzards. So off I went to the rough part of town to see what they had. Oh. My. Lord. Can we talk about gizzards? Can we talk about perfect seasoning, just the right amount of batter? Can we discuss sheer tenderness, maybe diverge for a spell on the topic of flavorful sauces? Perhaps we might even drop a line or two about the importance of not mixing in a few livers by mistake, a practice I abhor. O my friends, let us rhapsodize. Seriously. These are--and I speak to you here as an old Kentucky gal--quite possibly the best gizzards I've ever had the privilege to ingest. Remarkably good. And the G-sauce?
