Headed to this spot in KCK for Restaurant Week. They have daily specials - which are great deals! We decided on the tackle box and the chicken Philly with pepper jack cheese. Service was efficient. Both items were generous portions. The tackle box was fish, shrimp and whole chicken wings. The basa fish was crunchy and flaky, wings fried perfectly and shrimp was juicy and large. Yummy! The tackle box came with 1 side- I chose Mac n cheese. Not my fave. Would not order again. The chicken Philly was huge. I couldn't finish it. It was kinda dry in parts like it needed some mayo or some kind of sauce. The fries were good, but would've preferred them to be fried a little longer to be more crunchy. The seasoning was good. I ordered a side of cabbage. It was good. This spot was about 30 minutes from my house. But I would recommend you try if you are in the area. Pro-tip- get there before noon. Or call ahead. It gets pretty busy after 12. And because it's cooked to order it's not quick. We waited about 20 minutes. I was in Kansas visiting my newest grandson I wanted to have some soul food with my brother who lives in Grandview while I was in town. He told me about this spot so I went and picked us up some lunch. He ordered oxtails and grits with a side of cabbage and some peach cobbler. I ordered the tackle box with shrimp, fish and chicken wings and a side of greens. I thought I was getting fries and greens, but I only got the greens and they were okay, but I gave them to my brother. The cabbage was also just OK because there wasn't much juice in them, so they were pretty dry. Everything else was absolutely delicious. I had never had Basa fish, but I loved it loved it loved it ! I will definitely go back when I am in town next. Matter fact, I ordered two to go plates: oxtail and grits for my son and Basa fish and yams for his wife. They loved their orders as well. My only recommendation would be that they put the grits and oxtails in a different kind of container. Even though it was double bagged the Styrofoam does not accommodate the grits. Customer service was great. The tall young man who served me made a little mistake on my ticket, but it was OK. They fixed it....everybody was nice. Totally enjoyed myself. read more

There is absolutely nothing 'classic' about this restaurant, I've tasted better food at hospital cafeterias...The ONLY reason this place got two stars is because the cake was to die for, melt in your mouth deliciousness but the "soul food" absolute TRASH! Who seasons macaroni with msg (accent)... disgusting...PLUS I was given a so called 'pork chop' that was the size of a giant chicken breast [pictured]...the yams were crunchy, not terrible but missing something and the fries were old ...how long does it take to cook fries when you've already cooked the fish and chicken which were pretty good....this place is lacking quality by far...would not recommend and would not return...ONLY for the cake read more

We tried a little bit of everything, and it was all good, but the oxtails stole the show. I don't usually go for oxtails, but these I'd come back for again and again. We tried both the smoked and braised, and they were fall-off-the-bone tender, super meaty, and packed with flavor. If you must try anything on the menu make it the oxtails. read more

The Pitch Sandwich Week Stop #1 BBQ Honey Sriracha Chicken Sandwich That insane crunch and that addictive sauce, this sandwich was firing on all cylinders. This is the definition of a local "mom and pop" neighborhood restaurant located in the Wyandotte area of KCK. Everything here is made to order so be prepared to be patient but, good food takes time to prepare and each item here was made impeccably- no complaints from me chef! The sandwich special wasn't on the menu but, they knew exactly what I was talking about and whipped one up for me and boy, am I glad they did. It was delicious, delectable and definitely worth the wait. Since we were already out a little ways from where we live we decided it was only right to order something else from the menu and Monday had the written special of a Tackle Box so, we went with that. It has a little sample of everything with expertly fried flaky basa and tender plump shrimps as well as, jumbo crispy wings and a pile of french fries. The only thing missing was some sauce/hot sauce but that was easily remedied at home. 1930 Classic Kitchen knows how to fry their fish, let me tell you that! These filets had a seasoned cornmeal batter, classic fish fry mix feels, that adhered to the thick(ish) pieces of basa without issue. The crispy exterior was the perfect opposite to the soft steamy interior. The wings also were cooked fantastically, with succulent light and dark meat still juicy inside the fried crispy coating. A1 on everything coming out of that magical fryer, I sing its praises. Now onto the star of the show, the whole reason we drove here, that glorious and glistening chicken sandwich covered in finger licking good sensational sauce. The chicken breast itself was bigger than the bun, which is always a good sign when it comes to a sandwich. They knew what they were doing when creating this special sauce because it hit all the taste buds. The sweet notes from the honey melded with the slightly spicy tingly sriracha, it was a match made in flavor heaven. The cajun coleslaw was also the right mix of creamy and seasoned, not your average sad slaw and it was obviously delicious piled on top that sandwich, added a cool (temperature wise) crisp crunch. read more

My wife had the pork chop which she said was "edible". Ox tail was pretty good. Mac & cheese was not good at all with some weird spices in it. Cabbage also tasted funny but I ate most of it anyway. Just picked up inline order and liked that they bring it out and show you. The smash burger for $13.99 is probably the best deal in the city. It's a double with everything and it's huge.came with seafood steak fries. And also got the basa fish with same fries. It's a great deal and the portions are big. Amazing! My boyfriend had the fish po' boy and I had the shrimp po' boy. Both were GIANT, extremely fresh and flavorful. The onion rings were also delicious, hot, and (I think?) homemade. VERY DISAPPOINTED in this place for my first and last visit. This place had so much hype I really wanted to give it try. I ordered the Oxtails which took 25 minutes to get to me. They were cold and burnt like I got the ones at the bottom of the pot and so much cold gravy over them which I couldn't eat them and enjoy them like I wanted. I believe that a restaurant should be consistent from when they open to closing and serve every customer like they served the first customer of the day. i have been trying to try this place oxtails for awhile just based off reviews/word of mouth and they always sell out DAILY!! Meanwhile, they keep raising the price. it shouldnt take days and weeks of calling around a certain time to see if a food item listed on the menu is available.
