My husband had a little sticker shock at the register for the 26 lb weight we were buying. He took a moment because he thought it was a little less online. When he asked "and that's the total with tax?". Normally you hear back a confirmation but instead she said no with tax it's $73.62. Mind you we were at the register to pay not for a price check. My husband was looking at his phone and she blurts out "you want it or not?". We told her yes but I had to explain to her he is just taking a moment to look up the price. Normally someone at the register gives the total price when purchasing not sub total. I walked away once my husband got the receipt and was already a good ways away from the register and she yells out "Good Bye!" In the most patronizing tone. It was the cherry on top for this review. We are all human and can do better but this right here is why online shopping and self check out is putting cashiers out of jobs. Maybe she should remember that the next time she wants to be unjustifiably rude and try to make people feel less than with "you want it or not?". So if you want your intentions to be buy something rudely questioned in front of other guests than this is the place and Jaslene is your go to.

All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses.

Review #949 2026-013…read more My 14 YO daughter made her high school's jr. varsity swim team in her freshman year, & needed to get her swim gear before the end of 01/2025 for the official practice sessions. WHS Warriors partnered with The Swim Guy for swimsuits, swim parkas, goggles, etc. The Swim Guy is located in Lawndale, off Inglewood Ave. & 159th St., conveniently near the 405 Fwy. It's a family-owned, comprehensive swim shop that offers a vast selection of swimsuits & trunks, swim parkas, accessories (i.e. goggles, caps, fins, etc.), & training aids for competitive & recreational swimming, & water polo. Upon entering, the shop is crammed from floor to ceiling of all things water. On the right just behind the entrance, is cubby-shelves stocked full of sale items. Further in, there's racks & racks of swimsuits & trunks. Swim accessories are located along the left wall past the front desk/register. They carry known swimwear brands such as: Arena, Jolyn, Nike, Speedo, etc. While we know H's size (stands 5'4" with medium build) different brands may differ in size so we asked for help to try a couple of suits. The staff member was definitely experienced. He gave her a once over & gave her a size 32 1-piece suit to try on; it fitted perfectly! As a just in case, I asked to see a size 34, which also fit but not snug. He said new swimsuits may feel tight initially but will "stretch" slightly after 1 - 2 swims & conform to the body once the fabric relaxes; the tightness is crucial for performance & drag reduction (maybe that's why competitive swimmers having shaving parties before their swim meets?). We (me & H) both agree that size 32 looked to be/is a better fit than size 34. Not knowing how committed my daughter is, we only bought the required practice & competition swimsuits, WHS logo swim cap & sweatshirt hoodie. I wanted to get her the parka, but it was $150+ (comes with the school's & swimmer's name embroidered) & I don't want to invest in one if she's not swimming her HS career. We put our order in just a couple days before the WHS swim team's deadline; H's order arrived just a couple of days before the first official practice. The Swim Guy's prices are somewhat high since this is a team group sale; they had a guarantee order of practice & competitive swimsuits & trunks, & swim caps in addition to sweatshirt hoodies &/or parkas. The staff are knowledgeable & friendly, particularly the guy that worked with H's sizing... he gave really good advice on the swimsuit fit & care post swims. Most items are final sale, & generally do not accept returns or exchanges, especially with school team orders since they're customized. Make sure to double-check sizing & personalization details before placing your order! And be sure to inspect your order immediately upon arrival for any damages or issues! If the item is defective, damaged, or the wrong product was received, contact them at: info@theswimguy.com ASAP so they can resolve the issues & make things right. We didn't have any issues with her swim season order, or this current season's water polo order. She's on the swim team again for her sophomore year, & will be stopping by in a couple of weeks to try on swimsuits; she grew an inch or 2 since winter & her upper body is broader from her water polo season (joined JV as a sophomore). The Swim Guy is my daughter's WHS swim & water polo teams go-to for competition & practice gear, offering customized & reliable service. Outside of the required school gear, we purchase her recreational swimsuits & accessories elsewhere at a more affordable cost except when TSG has sales on overstock or past season items.

FREE Admission inside of the retail store. Spacious with probably maybe around 30-50 dealer tables. What I praised to one of the staff of this store about, as well at chatting with some of the sellers at Bullpen is that it felt like a lot of the "dealers" were not the typical ones of today's show-off "let's go!" era who sell cards for a living or hustle by bringing overpriced cards like a museum that have arrogant attitudes wanting to flex and show off their cards but with price-tags nobody's paying. This show felt like most of the "dealers" were simply hobby collectors looking to resell and priced their merchandise to sell and move. They were family friendly to kids and appreciative to customers with upbeat attitude. We bought some low end Pokemon cards and when curious to see the online eBay comps which is generally cheaper, I found the cards we purchased were comparably equal or lower (factoring online shopping typically necessitates paying shipping and sales tax) and we got to browse and take home cards immediately. We've been to shows like the Burbank Card Show and left it deflated because there was nothing to buy in terms of good opportunities. Bullpen Sports HQ is quite the opposite! They are a retail LCS (local card store/shop) and opened their doors to theoretically competitor sellers in camaraderie to benefit the hobby and collectors for a card show convention type event. All of the dealers seemed to have a nice variety of sports cards and also Pokemon cards. The pricing was very fair with everyone we saw and there wasn't any mega-booths pushing overpriced cards or promoting their rips or breaks. This felt like a local show from the 1980's type vibe. The sellers were easy to talk to and very gracious to customers whether browsing and not buying, picking up $1 caliber cards or negotiating discount offers for deals. I highly recommend this for everyone and especially kids and their parents. Several dealers gave my young 8 year old son free gifts too! I believe the staff said they try to hold these card shows several times a year, maybe every 6 weeks or spread after every 2 months and the rates for dealer tables seem very fair for collectors to come set up and sell. With all that being said, this was an amazing event that exceeded expectations. Parking was easy, especially if you're willing to walk a few short minutes using free parking on the neighborhood streets.
