They have an amazing selection of equipment for a lot of different sports at great prices. For kids and adults. They need to update their information on Yelp and their website though. The Torrance store does NOT buy sports equipment. They happily take equipment on consignment but only specific types of equipment It depends on what they believe they can sell. I think they will accept equipment in good condition that you want to donate. If you use consignment, it is up to you to periodically call the store to see if your items have sold and go get a check from the sale. read more

We've shopped here several times for our budding athletic child who navigates every sport to at least try out, so it enables us to get him the right equipment but not have to buy expensive brand new equipment that gets abandoned after a few weeks. I just found out on our last visit that LARRY ROBINSON owned this store. He's a legend and icon of Hockey, a true champion who has raised the Stanley Cup and is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. I believe he's been listed in many analysts "Top 100 Players of All-Time" ranked in the low 20's, so could be considered easily a Top 50 Player and debatable in a positive way that he's still in the Top 30, 20 or even 10, especially within his own position as a Defenseman and not the typical spotlight glory positions that scores tons of highlight reel goals. It's odd that I never looked at the walls to see the museum like displays of Larry Robinson's achievements and friends (like a signed Wayne Gretzky jersey). I think it's my new life mission to bump into him at his store with my son (who's too young at 6 to know much of the game of hockey) as we're shopping. Such a bummer. One of the guys was super helpful, he worked hard to find me gear- but got sidetracked and had to do something else. In the meantime another guy sold me a stick that was way too short (and I asked for help) knowing I should've sized it on skates, and my skates broke after two times on the ice. I called and spoke to the owner to share and he told me that I probably didn't tell them I needed it for on ice....I brought my off-ice stick in and asked if I could use it on ice..they said no and encouraged me to buy another. Sized it and said it was good....6 inches shorter than I really needed. 6 inches isn't a little bit. Owner offered me a discount to buy more and I asked him what that discount would be, since I would be driving a distance to get there. Told me there was nothing he could do about the skates except call the manufacturer. I asked what the discount would be, he didn't answer me and just kept talking over me that his team would never sell gear that wasn't sized correctly. When I told him I'd like to not have to write a bad review he flipped out, told me I was threatening him and asked me why he'd give me a discount. I apologized and told him I didn't intend to threaten him. He kept talking over me, and hung up on me. Don't worry, discount or not, I wouldn't spend more money at your store. Bad service is bad service, man. Selling me stuff that's the wrong size and not owning up to product that breaks after 2 hours of use...I won't be sending anyone to you. So I came to this store looking for a used pair of skis for a short trip to the snow... I initially posted about the very poor experience I had purchasing and then needing to return the skis the next day. The owner, Larry, immediately reached out and asked how we could remedy the situation. I was impressed that he did this right away. But I was more impressed that he didn't stop emailing me until I agreed to come back to the store and see if we could make things right. For buying new and used equipment, this store is big and has a lot on the shelves. That is fine. For selling used equipment, their system is a very poor experience for the seller. Instead of typically giving you a cut and buying it off of you there, they give it 6mo to sell. In those 6mo if it sells you can come back to the store to pick up your check (50% of their sale). If not you get store credit worth 50% of what the sale would have been. The problem is that within that 6mo they leave it up to me to call whenever to see if the item sold. We were referred to this business from a parent who's daughter plays softball in Carson . When I told her I went to big 5 in Carson and paid $40.00 for cleats and had the worst service, she said she came here and paid $9.00 for cleats . We decided to stop by yesterday and I must tell you , the service alone was outstanding. We found everything we needed and saved about $150.00. What really stuck out was the owner cane out to help us . He took his time to explained everything to my daughter and even showed her the correct way to put on her helmet. Larry the owner is a fantastic guy, and all of the staff are helpful, without ever applying any pressure to buy something. As a hockey goalie coach, it is always the first place I send my players to look for equipment. They often have really great stuff for a steal, and do an awesome job sharpening skates. Today, we grabbed Rollerblades for my wife, and a body board and wetsuit for my daughter. We've bought baseball gloves, surfboards, skateboards, bearings and parts, weight lifting stuff, just about everything you could imagine, and saved a bunch of money doing it. I can't recommend them more highly. In an age of online shopping, you might just find that you really enjoy wandering around a store like play it again. When an owner calls within minutes (on a Sunday) from me posting a review, I applaud the fact that they are truly interested in the customer's feedback and they are embracing the changes going on with how to own a business (with the evolving social media world). For that I'll give them one more star. The owner made the first move to right the wrong by contacting his vendor immediately and finding a replacement for my missing wrist guard and even drove himself to replace it for me right away. While I would have been fine with just the promise that he was working on it and snail mail, I appreciate his effort. Honestly, the owner shouldn't have even had to be dragged into this conversation. Call me old-fashioned, but I come from the school of retail that states "The customer is always right." and I would have handled it in-store before the customer left. Even if policy prohibits you from doing exactly what they're asking, find some way to make the customer feel like you're listening to them, find some small way to help them to give them hope that the wrong will be corrected so that they can still see why they should return another day to give you another chance. It took me a while to get the replacement wrist guard partially because my busy life doesn't really match well with their hours - part of the original reason that it took me so long to get in there - and partially because while the wrist guard was the third and final straw, it wasn't really just about the wrist guard. read more

I came in a few weeks back to purchase a bike. First off, because we are in a pandemic and gyms were closed I felt the best way to workout is purchasing a bike and going on a ride. I appreciate the care and customer service at this location, only a few people were allowed in the store at a time. The bikes that the store received were called SOfTIES which seemed great sitting on it in the store but not being able to take it for a ride was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, I decided on the purchase... after taking it home which was about 55 miles out, I was so excited to ride it. Without even reaching the house I asked my partner to drop me off with the bike and I'd ride it the rest of the way. The bike made an unusual noise.. I thought it was the chain but I kept peddling so it wasn't, it was a squeaking noise. I was so upset that we had drove that far to purchase something that didn't make me happy. I am not sure what to do.. the manager seemed adamant about there return and exchange policy which is nonexistent and I don't want to sell it to someone knowing its not a good product, I would feel bad and this company should consider that integrity as well. read more

The mission today was to find me and my girlfriend some tennis racquets for cheap. She recommended finding a Play It Again Sports. This location is in an outdoor strip mall. Parking and driving around there was a little tight as well as the traffic on 190th St. Used bikes were chained together in front of the store, and a lot of advertisements were written all over the front windows (see pic). Okay, they sell used sporting equipment, so I didn't expect the store to be immaculate. To my surprise, the people that work there seemed to take good care of the store's organization. The used equipment was of decent quality, an we saved a good amount of money. When it was time to check-out, the cashier was nice enough to encourage our return if we had anything to sell. I've been in this business on multiple occasions and each experience (especially dealing with the owner) left me unimpressed and disappointed. Whenever I buy something from DICKS, BIG 5, ET Surf, Dive n Surf, Etc. (same or cheaper prices I might add) they have what I need, are pleasant to deal with, and if I ever run into any issues, something doesn't fit, wrong size, whatever, I need to exchange or return something it's never a problem. You will NOT get that kind of service here. Its a major hassle to deal with the owner. Step over a dollar to get a nickel mentality. Like a turd in a punch bowl. We have purchased almost all of my son's hockey gear here and I love how helpful the staff is.
