Review #949 2026-013 My 14 YO daughter made her high school's jr. varsity swim team in her freshman year, & needed to get her swim gear before the end of 01/2025 for the official practice sessions. WHS Warriors partnered with The Swim Guy for swimsuits, swim parkas, goggles, etc. The Swim Guy is located in Lawndale, off Inglewood Ave. & 159th St., conveniently near the 405 Fwy. It's a family-owned, comprehensive swim shop that offers a vast selection of swimsuits & trunks, swim parkas, accessories (i.e. goggles, caps, fins, etc.), & training aids for competitive & recreational swimming, & water polo. Upon entering, the shop is crammed from floor to ceiling of all things water. On the right just behind the entrance, is cubby-shelves stocked full of sale items. Further in, there's racks & racks of swimsuits & trunks. Swim accessories are located along the left wall past the front desk/register. They carry known swimwear brands such as: Arena, Jolyn, Nike, Speedo, etc. While we know H's size (stands 5'4" with medium build) different brands may differ in size so we asked for help to try a couple of suits. The staff member was definitely experienced. He gave her a once over & gave her a size 32 1-piece suit to try on; it fitted perfectly! As a just in case, I asked to see a size 34, which also fit but not snug. He said new swimsuits may feel tight initially but will "stretch" slightly after 1 - 2 swims & conform to the body once the fabric relaxes; the tightness is crucial for performance & drag reduction (maybe that's why competitive swimmers having shaving parties before their swim meets?). We (me & H) both agree that size 32 looked to be/is a better fit than size 34. Not knowing how committed my daughter is, we only bought the required practice & competition swimsuits, WHS logo swim cap & sweatshirt hoodie. I wanted to get her the parka, but it was $150+ (comes with the school's & swimmer's name embroidered) & I don't want to invest in one if she's not swimming her HS career. We put our order in just a couple days before the WHS swim team's deadline; H's order arrived just a couple of days before the first official practice. The Swim Guy's prices are somewhat high since this is a team group sale; they had a guarantee order of practice & competitive swimsuits & trunks, & swim caps in addition to sweatshirt hoodies &/or parkas. The staff are knowledgeable & friendly, particularly the guy that worked with H's sizing... he gave really good advice on the swimsuit fit & care post swims. Most items are final sale, & generally do not accept returns or exchanges, especially with school team orders since they're customized. Make sure to double-check sizing & personalization details before placing your order! And be sure to inspect your order immediately upon arrival for any damages or issues! We didn't have any issues with her swim season order, or this current season's water polo order. She's on the swim team again for her sophomore year, & will be stopping by in a couple of weeks to try on swimsuits; she grew an inch or 2 since winter & her upper body is broader from her water polo season (joined JV as a sophomore). The Swim Guy is my daughter's WHS swim & water polo teams go-to for competition & practice gear, offering customized & reliable service. Outside of the required school gear, we purchase her recreational swimsuits & accessories elsewhere at a more affordable cost except when TSG has sales on overstock or past season items. read more

I needed some goggles and hand paddles so I stopped into the store. Craig got me all setup with some goggles that won't hurt my eyes (no more raccoon eyes) and some swim paddles that fit my hands perfectly. It was a better price than the one I saw online. I don't need a new swimsuit but if I did I'd look here. They have many racks of different brands, types and sizes. This is where you want to go. read more

Our team used the swim guy for our polos this year, for the water polo team. The team uses them every year as far as I know with no issues. This year however while the polo is nice and has my sons name it's not the size we ordered. When I reached to the swim guy they wouldn't offer any resolution other than they gave anyone who ordered a small a medium because they didn't have smalls. It would have been nice to know of this switch in advance, there was no communication and we have a polo that won't be worn. read more

As a long time customer they have also given me freebies like fin leashes and Swim Guy goggles. Went here to buy a thermal swim shirt. Michael was really great! He was so helpful because I was buying the wrong size all along and he suggested that I get a size smaller and he was right. All this time I was wondering why I was still cold in the pool with my shirt and it's because I had it too big and water got in. [hitting self in head multiple times] Why did I forget this place? I came here today to purchase a new bathing suit. I have been here before but it was more than 10 years ago. They have hundreds of different bikinis [see photos] with name brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tommy Bahamas, Ralph Lauren and Anne Klein. The most they charge is $39 and if you buy two they will take an additional $10. Dudes, this is not a chick shop they have all sorts of men's name brand sports wear. Shopping for a swim suit being a size 22 I thought would cost me at least $80 and I would be limited to a style I'm not crazy about. The Swim Guy store was 100% opposite of those thoughts! I was immediately welcomed and when I asked if they had size 22 he said absolutely and took me to a section that had a large selection of my size! He even offered me a rolling chair so I wouldn't have to lean down to look since they were on a lower rack. I was asked if I wanted to try them on. Good thing because I guessed the wrong size. I have had several killer shopping sprees here! (at least thats how I felt) The prices are beyond reasonable. The owner Craig is very informative and goes beyond his means to satisfy any requests. Before our summer trip to La Paz I ran in just to try my luck and scan the racks for a bikini! SCORE not 1, not 2 but 4 brazilian bikinis that provided less coverage than most American brands. I also took with me a Sporty, well manufactured suit by Roxy.(better, more supportive for water sports). This location never ceases to amaze me. With Xmas around the corner Craig and Sean (employees) pulled a couple of Snowboarding pants out as options for gifts. My boyfriend is an avid snowboarder and the last time I stopped in for the suits I mentioned Id be back in October. (Great customer service!!!) I ended up only getting 1 pair of pants and he was Ecstatic at the (price) most of all.. considering the quality. Yaay he loved his gift! I also noticed there was a Cookie Sale inside of the store "cookies for a Cure". ALL the PROFITS are donated! I was in swimsuit heaven. Yes. Heaven. I definitely do not have a modelesque body. Especially my core region have all the 'goodies' accumulated over the years. It's impossible to find swimsuits that is flattering for my body. I've been to dive and surf, department stores and several different clothing stores in a search for that bathing suit that does not make me look piggy, but they've all failed me. My experience was great here! I am currently taking a beginning swimming class at the local community college. The employee here was very patient with me and help me pick the perfect goggles for myself and hair cap. Parking was a little limited but that does not take away from the excellent customer service that I received here. This place is perfect for anyone that needs any type of information or swimmers that have been swimming for a long time. I made the mistake of ordering goggles through Amazon, not realizing that everyone's face is shaped differently.
