This is the only REI Re/Supply store in California. This is where you can get used (sometimes brand new) gear for discounted prices. It's different from their REI outlet items because these are all final sale. The inventory always changes based on what items have been returned. REI's generous 100% satisfaction guaranteed return policy-that stuff that has been used and then returned that can be restocked/sold in the normal retail store? That stuff ends up here. It's a great way to reduce waste. You can find tents, sleeping bags, hiking poles, shoes, clothes, cycling gear, pretty much anything can end up here. This is my first time visiting this location. Everyone was telling me that this is the biggest REI store in Los Angeles. I had so much fun walking around this store. There are 2 levels. Clothes are on the second level, and there are a few fitting room that are available. Next to the huge REI store is another REI store that sell used goods. The bike servicing section of this REI store is out of this world. I've just had the best service I ever had in my life. Ive just got my first bike (a used single gear hybrid) and went to see what it needs. The staff overall was lovely, but Colin went above and beyond. He answered my questions about maintenance, which are very basic since it's my first time servicing a bike but he was very kind and patient. He showed me what I needed and did not try to pressure me for expensive and unnecessary repairs that I do not need. He just focused on my safety by pointing out the issues on the brakes. He took one glance and knew the problem right away before I even mentioned the squeaking noises! He offered very budget friendly options and even showed me how to oil and put air in my tires! This store never disappoints it has absolutely everything you need for adventure and more. My husband and I love to camp and overland and off road so this store has been great to grab most of our items for our trips to be possible, from comfy hiking boots to camping gear to clothes and other fun items that we always end up grabbing. One thing I really thought was helpful was when we did a long hike to Havasupai and I used one of my friends backpack and that was a big mistake I later learned that you need to get measured for these backpacks for them to be comfy and appropriate. I ordered an osprey and have loved my backpack and used it many times. The store is great and love that they are friendly and help in whatever questions you have and even look if the item is available in back or order it for you. The customer service has always been amazing here and I love that. There is also another store that's connected to REI and it's like their outlet/ish stuff that gets returned and they have many great items that are still in perfect condition as well and glad they have that store. Over all the store is great some items are pretty pricy but they last a long time and it's worth it to invest in some great items if you are an outdoorsy person like us! Every time I've gone there it feels like walking into a fancy department store and just like Costco hour spending hundred dollars for a few items, but REI one item will cost you hundred dollars. I have never been more disappointed in my REI experience than I was on the evening of 12/27/25. I had a pair of Hoka Cliftons and the tread was peeling off, almost as if the glue came off. I attempted to return them. The manager on at that night (tall, male, Caucasian) was dismissive and unpleasant. According to him Hokas don't last long and this is part of normal wear and tear. I said "I only use these for the gym so I maybe put 3-5 miles on a week for the last 5 months. This has never happened with my other hokas." He goes on to say "these shoes don't last beyond 500-600 miles and since you've returned shoes in the past, I'm going to say no." read more

I purchased (with my dividend) a Women's Rainier Long Line Rain Jacket, REI/Hydrowall branded in March 2024. I have only worn it about six times, twice in rather heavy rain. Both those times were within a week, and both times I got wet. I realize that I had owned the coat for two years, but since it clearly isn't waterproof I thought to return it. I took it to the Tukwila, WA store, where the clerk told me some new information that contradicts the instructions on the coat (which themselves are confusing). He said that the coat needs to be washed frequently to remain waterproof (conveniently every 5-7 wearings after I said I'd worn it six times). Also he said that my sweat made it wet inside despite that I was wearing fleece under it to prevent the clammy feeling. He also ignored that the pockets, which flap freely inside the coat, were wet. He additionally told me that after washing the coat I would have to apply a waterproof spray covering to maintain the waterproofing. The lining inside he said was entirely 100% waterproof, yet the pockets, which are made from that fabric, were wet. The washing instructions in the coat say this: "machine wash cold, do not use bleach or fabric softners, tumble dry, low iron, dry clean only" (what??!). I don't know how to follow those instructions, as well as the clerk's. I have always thought that REI was a step up from other outfitters, but whatever is going on there is no step up. Dear REI Customer Experience Team, I am writing to formally express my disappointment and concern regarding an uncomfortable and distressing experience I had at your REI Manhattan Beach location (1800 Rosecrans Ave, Building B) on Friday, July 19, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM. My husband and I visited the store to browse and try on items. While he was assisted politely by a staff member who helped him into the fitting room and thanked him for being an REI member, I waited outside -- calm, quiet, and visibly respectful. I was dressed in a neat red outfit with gold buttons, pearl earrings, and natural makeup. I carried myself confidently and did nothing that should have drawn suspicion. However, I quickly noticed behavior that made me feel targeted. Three male employees began gathering near me, all holding mobile devices, scanning or touching products close to where I stood -- yet without removing items or adjusting displays. Shortly after, two more male employees were hovering in surrounding aisles, again near only me. They didn't acknowledge me, offer assistance, or engage in genuine retail tasks. Their body language and movement made it clear I was being monitored. When my husband and I walked to another section of the store -- where there were at least 5-10 other customers -- I noticed no employees were present there. Moments later, an employee returned to scan the exact shelf my husband had just browsed. This behavior -- excessive silent monitoring, clustering around one customer, and selective observation -- made me feel judged and profiled. It was not routine customer service or standard inventory work. It felt personal, uncomfortable, and inappropriate. As a woman of color, a professional educator, and a customer who values dignity and inclusion, I found this treatment disheartening and unacceptable. I respectfully request that REI look into this incident and reinforce its values through staff training to ensure all customers are treated with equality, respect, and professionalism. Great staff, was very helpful when we were looking for a pair of running sunglasses. They have a good selection of all things camping. I personally have the most fun looking at the camping foods and other snacks. There's always something interesting to find there. Prices are a bit high but I'd say its worth it if you're a member. Marmot rain jacket I have bought a rain jacket years ago, which I only used few times. However, I found out recently that the inner layer is peeling in various places (see attached pictures). SUPER STOKED I randomly came in looking for a specific pair of shoes that I had my eyes on for about a year now. I wasn't going to pay full price even though in the past I certainly did. The thing is I bought a size that was too large before. I randomly came in and found these shoes in store when it was sold out online by now! Instead of paying the full $200, I lucked out and paid less than $50 because I had spent so much last year, that I got cash back and was able to apply it to my purchase. These running shoes are just absolutely gorgeous and comfortable! I have several running shoes because I love to look cute while working out. This just adds to my fabulous wardrobe! I honestly just lucked out. There were many times before when I came and they did not have these shoes. Probably because people snatch them as soon as they reach the sales floor. It was just great timing and luck for me! So very thankful that this place is here. I get lazy to drive here but when I stopped by, it was a hit. Truly it's a hit or miss. His knowledge about boots, how they should fit, his patience, and his customer service are beyond 5 stars. He not only knows his stuff, he takes the time to compare boots with you, and you never feel rushed. And, he was about to go on his break but spent an hour plus with me and put his break off. I have been to several other ski stores and ski boot stores and did not purchase the boots - felt like I was being pushed to buy by these other what they had in stock and given bad advice. I went to both the Northridge store and the store in Woodland Hills. I was just trying to get my skis put together, correctly and for a good price. At both stores seemed like a hassle one couldn't do it, the other one quoted me a price that was twice as much as what I ended up getting it done at a actual ski shop. Which I thought it was gonna be just the opposite that it would be cheaper at the big Box store. Score: 10/10 Buzzwords: Next-Level Customer Service, 2-Story Shopping, REI Garage Standalone Decided to visit this REI location a Saturday night after a few friends recommended shopping the standalone large store for some sweet deals in preparation for a National Parks Road trip scheduled next year. While we didn't get the chance to fully immerse ourselves in the garage store (located 2 stores down adjacent to the Ross) due to a slightly earlier close time at 8pm, we were really happy with our overall shopping experience at the main store. What has been a major headache for us has been figuring out additional storage for our 2017 Prius Prime. Though we decided on roof rack + cargo box combo, the connectors, accessories, and sizing has been a nightmare for someone unfamiliar with such ecosystems. Fortunately for us, Chris came to the rescue. Not only was he very patient with this uncultured swine, but he also took the time to explain the differences between the competitor's ecosystem, best bang for our buck given our traveling needs, and went so far as to provide us with a written piece-by-piece order list with accompanying barcodes to eliminate all fears related to our purchase. The stress relief from this alone is unquanitifable. Overall, our above and beyond customer experience with Chris made for such a great first visit here at this flagship store. REI Co-Op just renamed thier Used and obsolete clearance store as the Re-Supply store. This is the FIRST brick & mortar Re-Supply store in the USA!!! Lots of everything they sell in the regular store... Much of it "gently used" stuff. They say it's all inspected to be serviceable or heavily used and priced accordingly. This used to be called Thier "permanent garage sale" store. Somebody at HQ probably thought that the term garage sale implied thier pricing was rock bottom and or that it was of the lowest quality, least desirable of stuff, which is how I would interpret a garage sale. Resupply probably is not a term that I would incorporate into a name for this type of store. At any rate, I would estimate the square footage around 3000 ft², and they have a lot of stuff here. Perhaps the best time to go is when they have an extra percentage discount applying to probably everything in the store. That might be around particular holidays, or maybe you should call in and ask when they have a special sale running. We actually visit pretty regularly, perhaps once per quarter... That would be a lot for us. We don't live exactly next door or close by, we have about an hour drive to get here. So you never know what you might find on any given visit. I'm not so keen on getting stuff that is actually used pretty moderately or heavily. I like stuff that is essentially nearly brand new, and priced substantially below their sale prices, and below internet comparable values. So why five stars? First, staff and service has always been as she would expect from REI, first rate, reasonably insightful guidance, and professional service. Second, it's often very good quality merchandise that may be just gently used or recently discontinued. Third, if you have an eye for a bargain.... You may be in luck here ... I went into the Manhattan Beach location to purchase a bicycle for $900. It took a very long time to get the help I needed because the team is actually just so severely slow. It made checking out so difficult that my husband and I decided to go have lunch and come back. When we returned, we paid and then it turned out that they didn't have the device that removes the metal that prevents theft. They kept saying they just don't know where it is. How? How did they expect me to wait until they all slowly walk around in circles "looking for it " I really didn't want to continue to wait so I asked for a refund. The problem isn't just that they couldn't remove it, the whole process is just so inefficient. I am extremely dissatisfied. How is it that people this inefficient and bad at their jobs could continue to have a job at your company? Ever since this store opened up a few months ago, I've visited at least a few times a month! They used to restock thrice a week, but last week, one of the sales associates told me that they were getting shipments in twice a week instead. At this time, there are only 2 of these stores in the world (here and one in Pennsylvania). If you're unfamiliar with the REI Garage Sale, it is typically a monthly event held at REI stores to sell returned/used items. I used to wait in super long lines every few months to find excellent deals on great gear, but now, I can simply drive less than an hour to find a ton of different used gear for great prices any day of the week! Thus far, I've gotten climbing shoes, trail runners, sleeping bags, a head lamp, work shoes, and more. My deals have been at 1/3 to 1/2 the regular prices, and everything has been and continues to be in perfectly functional condition! This store is accessible to REI members, and all sales are final. The REI membership is well worth it for both dividends and access to these stores. There is plenty of parking in this plaza, and the store is located between Old Navy and Barnes & Noble, two stores down from the REI Manhattan Beach store. If you're looking for outdoor gear and live in the L.A. area, then you now can visit this Garage Sale store to find returned items from, what I assume to be, around the U.S.! read more

This is a great and dangerous place, for your budget at least, as there are all sorts of bargains to be discovered! As you may know, REI has shifted from selling their used and returned gear at quarterly Garage Sales to, in some cases, having small sections within their main stores with a selection of this gear. Now rebranded as Re/Supply, this separate location in Manhattan Beach is one of two locations across the country with a vast selection of the region's used and returned gear. I was in high school. I can't even remember which city it was in, but I know it was HS because of the people I was surrounded with. As I looked through the clothes racks, I rolled my eyes and thought to myself, "This place is way out of my parent's middle class budget." Especially with my younger brothers growing so fast. As the years went by, I gravitated towards their clothes and camping gear because of their longevity and cool factor. My ex shares the same love that I do today for REI. He lives dangerously close to this location. Lol. All I really have to say about this aspect is the folks at this store take good care of my daughters' father particularly due to his hearing disability. (He's profoundly deaf.) For that, I appreciate them even more. I personally haven't had any negative experiences here because I usually know exactly what I want. Best in service and knowledgable... went in for Snow Board service for kids boards. Very reasonable cost for service, much better than the local surf and snow shops in the area... The store is clean, has everything you can think of or need for outdoors activity. Any employee you speak with in store has knowledge enough to help and assess your need for equipment and provide very well thought out advice. This location also has (next door) a REI with used and overstock selection at discounted costs and very well, in shape bought back used equipment. REI has everything you need for pretty much ever sport and or exercise! I went to look for a vest for the LA Marathon and found a great vest that was about $165, but it was worth every penny. It was light weight and had two flex flasks which came in handy as I took way longer to finish the race than I thought. The store has a great selection of gels, I recommend GU! I have been an REI member for more than 30 years--it's one of my favorite stores. I buy a lot of stuff here at this store and other REI stores and Online. REI usually has even tempered outdoorsy type people working there, but sometimes someone falls through the cracks and gets hired that has no business working at REI. (And really should not be working with the public at all.) Like yesterday when I was checking out on line in the store. There were 2 associates with other customers and I was next on line when I got on line. No big wait deal--got on line and I was next. But this woman comes barrelling out of the back up to a register like there was a fire and looks at me standing literally 9 feet from her and she belts out in the loudest voice you can imagine that could be heard throughout the store and rattled the other associate 2 registers away helping a customer: NEXT!! I hesitantly approached her--I was looking for a lifeline to avoid dealing with her because I knew based on lots of life experience with people that this was going to so south because she obviously had some "issues." And it did: I put my item down and instead of just scanning it and putting my member number in the system, paying and leaving, she belts out again: "You have no dividend!" (I never asked about a dividend.) Usually they only tell you about the dividend if you have one. So I responded that I thought that I would have one this year from purchases last year but I guess not. Then she belt out again: "You have no dividend!" I am not going to tell you the rest of the story but she went on to belittle me which is what I though she was planning to do when she yelled out "NEXT" in a loud voice from 9 feet away. I saw it coming, but there was nothing I could do. I was the only one on line. I bet you her colleagues would like to see her go--people like that are impossible to work with and this type of person is very uncharacteristic of the kind of people that REI usually hires although there was once a guy like that in Santa Monica store that is no longer there. She never even asked if I needed a bag she was so riled up. Anyway--it's a great store for outdoor clothes, bike stuff, hiking, water sports--check it out if you have never been. Are you a new skier looking to invest in boots? Skip the resort shops and come to REI MB!!! I am a new skier (5 days total in my life!) and was told that getting boots is the move to make the experience more comfortable and improve my learning. I came to REI skeptical about what the experience would be (I have only shopped here for running and hiking stuff) and what the inventory would be (mountain shops have a LOT of brands, how could a beach city store compare)? I went to the back of the store, where they have a fair and organized system going for boot fitting. They write your name down and give you a buzzer (It is kind of like a deli counter, come to think of it). I got help from Joe and he is a BOSS! His knowledge and love for the sport really shines through. He was so patient and upbeat when working me...I was extra appreciative for that, because I came at 3:30pm (near closing time) the day after Christmas, and I am a beginner who asked LOTS of questions. Oh, and he fitted me and my fiancé at the same time. So, double the love for Joe!! It took 90 minutes for us to get sized, try on 2 pairs of boots each, try on different insoles in each boot, get insoles cut and fitted, and check out. He said they normally expect 45-60 minutes per customer, so I was grateful he gave us nearly 2x of his valuable time and expertise. Because I am new to the sport, every person I interact with at the rental shop, the lifts, the mountains, and store has made a lasting impression on me. If someone is nice and shares some positive vibes with me (a simple "just be safe and have fun!!"), it makes me excited to stick with the sport and I feel less nervous / self conscious about being a newbie. Of all the skiers and snow lovers I have interfaced with this year, Joe is the person I have spent the most time with and gotten the most help from. And let me tell you, he gives off the vibe all of us newbies want to feel: encouragement, enthusiasm, lightheartedness, and support!! Went to the store for a curbside pickup for some hiking shoes I ordered online. The whole experience probably took all of 2 minutes. Nice and easy. I had to take the boots back though because the colors looked different online. I also didn't think they were that comfortable for $100 on sale. My return was just as fast as the pickup. I looked around and wanted to buy everything, so I had to get out of there lol. REI always has everything you need for any sport or camping activity. We came here after being denied a shoe return by REI Arcadia, and not for a good reason either. FYI, the shoes hurt, wore out quickly, and was the first pair of shoes I've ever purchased for over $100. They were not great. We were denied a return because they were essentially "too worn in", told to contact the mfg, despite having the 1-year return policy guarantee, and returning it after less than 6 months. REI Manhattan Beach (100 mile round trip!!) treated us way better, tried to help us get into equipment better suited for our needs, AND ACCEPTED OUR RETURN WITHOUT HESITATION. Everyone at REI Manhattan Beach was friendly, awesome, the place was actually busy, and the location was near other establishments where we also checked out. Bought ascis running shoes here 3 months ago. Two holes formed on upper front and when I tried to return them they denied saying it was normal wear and tear. I don't even run only walk. Never had shoes form two holes in less then 3 months. Terrible customer service. Did not even try to find solution. Awful service if something goes wrong.
