Gochi Japanese Kitchen was truly a treat! I went for the first time last week, and I enjoyed everything I ordered. I was seated immediately. The staff was so kind and very attentive. The overall atmosphere was quaint but inviting. The restaurant has these really cool fixtures over the tables that add almost a brutalist feel to it, but for the most part, it is a pretty traditional restaurant layout. There is ample seating, and there is also ample parking in the plaza where this restaurant is located. As for the dining experience (food) itself, I kept it light with my order. I ordered the avocado roll and paired it with some miso soup. Both of which I enjoyed IMMENSLY. I am looking forward to going back to try more of their menu and venture into their speciality rolls. It had been several months since I had been back here and we arrived on a Tuesday and it was very quiet. Very few people there for dinner which was nice. We enjoyed the Mexican roll and the sweet potato roll. Both were delicious. I also got the Takusu Ramen as I had a little tickle in my throat, and it was perfect. We also tried the edamame hummus, and it was delicious! I could eat that all the time. All I can say is wow, this is some of the best sushi I've ever had. I had bigger expectations of this restaurant since it seemed to have such good reviews. The miso soup seemed off, watered down a bit. I rather that than too salty I guess since miso paste can be quite salty. The avocado in the rolls was almost paste... it was so ripe it was smeared on and the fish in the spicy salmon was hard to distinguish and taste because of was smeared spicy sauce and the almost over ripe avocado... it was a nice surprise to see it was no just diced smashed salmon. The sashimi was nice clean cuts of salmon. Look at that cut of fish! The avocado roll had an excellent cut size of tuna and it was all just ok. Hubs and I stopped here for an impromptu date night last week. We were regulars at the old location in the Publix plaza but haven't been to the new location since the move. We were surprised by the size, so much bigger than we anticipated and in comparison to the old hole in the wall spot. They have tables, booths, hightops and bar seating, even a few little tables outside. They have in table hotpot options available and obviously sushi. The decor is tasteful with modern touches and Asian inspired decor. It was a tad smoky the evening we came, we chalked it up to someone over searing their hotpot. The service was fine. There was a sign at the front asking for patience as they were short staffed but we didn't notice any delay in service. The ambiance could use some work. The background music playing was someone's podcast. I don't really care as we were having our own conversations but it was a little distracting. I'd prefer light music of some kind. The sushi was just as good as I remembered. Fresh, great flavor and texture combinations. We ordered the edamame app and were surprised by the portion, not in a good way. I think there were a total of 15 beans in the bowl which seemed wild for the price. I had a glass of Prosecco which was poured to the rim, no complaints there. The sushi rolls here are really high quality and innovative. My favorite was the Tampa Bay, which had a nice mix of flavors and a hint of sweetness. Continuing my search for the best Japanese Bento Box lunch in the Horizon West area, and discovered Gochi Japanese Kitchen, and so glad I did! It's one of those places you might never know is there, in a small strip mall off of Hwy 50 (W. Colonial), with almost nothing to tell you it's there driving by, as it doesn't face the main street. It's much larger inside than it looks from outside, as others have said, and it's clean and inviting... a legit restaurant vs so many storefront places intended more for to go orders. Upon being seated, I noticed there was a central hibachi grill in the middle of the booth table. Apparently, this place offers DIY hibachi grilling, but I did note the menu stated that if the table did not order at least 4 proteins (they looked to be about $15 each), there would be an additional $15 charcoal (fuel) charge. A bit steep, in my opinion, especially if I would be expected to cook my own food, but I wasn't having hibachi at the time. Just thought I'd mention it, because it seems like a novel idea, and not too many places offer this feature. Gochi has a nice menu, and reasonably priced bento boxes. I found it a bit odd that, when deciding on the traditional teriyaki chicken box, I had to choose between 4 small pieces of California roll OR steamed white rice (I've never been anywhere that didn't include both). The box also included 1 piece of gyoza, 1 very small veggie spring roll; I chose the CA roll, and it also included the standard ginger salad. I went ahead and ordered a side of steamed white rice (who doesn't want rice, without having to miss out on the CA roll?). The other thing that struck me as a bit odd - no miso soup with a bento box? OK, all that being said... the food. Despite being a bit surprised at no rice and CA roll together, and no miso soup, the quality of the food... for the most part, amazing! Most bento box chicken is plain grilled or sautéed chicken with teriyaki sauce. Gochi's stands out because it's sautéed, fresh, well-prepared chicken, mixed with sautéed veggies. VERY flavorful, VERY fresh, and not at all oily. So many places have bland offerings, but Gochi's flavors are incredible, and despite any of the minor, aforementioned misgivings about the bento box offerings, it's the quality and taste of the food that will keep me coming back for more! One more thing... the server. David was covering the entire restaurant (it wasn't too busy just after lunch hour, but still maybe 25-30 people at multiple tables). David HUSTLES!! He's so fast, watching him, he was literally everywhere at once, and still took the time to talk with each table, checking in, answering questions about the menu, describing the details and flavors of each dish people asked about... really impressive! I asked David if he was the owner - because it takes a special kind of person to take such good care of customers, with a well-defined knowledge of the menu, preparations, etc., to help people decide what they might like. David said he wasn't the owner, but had been in the industry for over 30 years! Honestly, he made the experience even better, which was much appreciated. One serious critique, Gochi... ditch the tap water! Disgusting, even after adding lemon, and I order water with lemon everywhere I eat. PLEASE source your water from your filtered soda machine, or invest in a purification system. Honestly, the horrible tap water flavor could've ruined an otherwise excellent meal. So glad I tried Gochi (I just won't order water again... seriously, it was that bad)... but I will be back for the food (and hopefully David's excellent service), and I'd even like to try the DIY hibachi sometime... maybe with more people so we'd cover the 4 meat minimum. PS: Sorry, but I was so hungry, and it smelled so good, that I started eating before I took the pictures. There were actually 4 small CA roll pieces, and the gyoza and small eggroll. Ordered TJ Roll (the best of the best), Janken (delicious), Big Kahuna (delicious!) and shrimp tempura (was ok). All 3 are beyond good, lots of ingredients, not much rice -perfection!! Only shrimp tempura was all right, not wow, seaweed outside was very unusual and no crunch at all. Also had krab Rangoons - so amazing, very krab forwarded flavor. Went on a Saturday evening to find some good sushi. I didn't have a reservation, but didn't need one as it was not crowded at all. I was invited to sit in the sushi bar. I scanned the qr code to get the menu, and decided with the chirashi bowl. It came in a pretty quick time, and had an ample amount of various pieces of fish as well as cucumber. However, I noticed that it was missing some fish eggs and salad that I thought would come before my meal. When mentioned, I was immediately given my salad and provided a very nice amount of fish eggs for my chirashi. I did enjoy my chirashi with the fish being fresh and plentiful. The rice was warm and the cucumbers added a nice crunch. I also wished the wasabi and ginger came on the side instead of directly on the bowl. But the presentation of the chirashi was very nice. For 24 dollars, it was a good value. The service from my server was prompt and friendly. Other than the minor mishaps that were previously mentioned, they were quick and helpful in responding. The atmosphere is pretty casual and quiet, with soft rock music in the background. I did recall seeing tables for hot pot as well as a bar for drinks. Gochi is located in a strip mall in Winter Garden not too far from the downtown area. There is an Aldi and a church in that plaza as well. Indulged my father on his desire to get at-table bbq with charcoal grill (not electric or gas) and found Gochi Japan Kitchen out in Winter Garden. The space is clean and bright and well designed with wide grill tables to accommodate both the grill and all the plates. They have pre set combos but we picked our own selection of Berkshire pork sausage, shiso pesto chicken and Korean marinated beef (bulgolgi, just say it!) along with a pick 3 veggie combo of onion, shishito peppers and king oyster mushrooms. They bring out a sweet and a spicy dipping sauce and salt if you get a ribeye or NY strip. We also got an eel roll and an order of yakisoba and I'm glad we did because while I acknowledged the menu said meats are 3-5oz portions I didn't realize how small that is. But the overhead must be significant considering the cost for the ventilation not to mention liability of placing a bucket of hot coals in a table, so it's fair priced at $8+ per meat when you consider all that. It was a wonderful experience and everything was fresh, the charcoal really does add an extra layer of flavor. Surprisingly the shiso pesto chicken was my favorite, with a unique herbal bite to it. Something for everyone! What did I get I ate from the vegetarian menu. I got from the Lemon edamame and veggies tempura from the appetizers and the sweet potato roll without cream cheese. What a great experience. I am not sushi lover but it was a family dinner and they have options for the non fish eaters. The décor was very nice and it was very clean looking dining area. Staff was excellent. Super pleasant and attentive. I opted for the chicken katsu and it was delicious. The dish came with fried rice and steamed vegetables (separate not mixed together) and a nice salad with a refreshing ginger dressing. We went to Gochi for the first time last Friday night and had a great time! My husband and I took part in the bbq grill and had pork belly, shrimp, chicken teriyaki, and Korean marinated steak. All of them were delicious! We also tried the sweet potato, zucchini, and corn. My parents joined us for dinner and had the tofu teriyaki and tempura shrimp plate. We went during lunch on a week day and it was pretty empty - which was nice since we are just getting back into the swing of things. They use QR codes for the menu which is great and I hope they keep that! They had a lunch menu and a regular sushi menu. I did one of the lunch specials which was a sashimi meal that came with a bowl of rice and salad or soup. My partner ordered 2 speciality rolls. The sashimi was very good and fresh. My partner liked the rolls but was disappointed that the jalapeño in one of the rolls was pickled instead of fresh, so it was missing that spicy and crunchy kick he was hoping for. First time here and I got to say I'm very impressed with the decor. We moved into the neighborhood and was excited to try out the sushi place. It was a Saturday night and honestly the parking lot was only filled by the restaurant so I'll take that as a good sign. It seems like they were understaffed or the kitchen was very busy, there was a long wait for a table and also due to Covid people did have to spread out. However we were able to get a space by the bar and just waited for our turn. Luckily we were seated where we actually were and was serviced so that was super awesome. The staff were friendly and nice. We were hungry so we ate super fast. Haha. The veggie spring rolls were decent but finished it before i took a photo. Lol The fried chicken roll was very interesting! I was impressed because 1- it was a warm roll, 2- the chicken was actually quite crunchy and combined with sushi style, it was very good. The spider roll was just all right I expected a little bit more of it or it was missing cucumbers or some thing. The role did not match up to other sushi places. The eel roll was very simple and not too many. What an expected gem! I chose this place based on photos and reviews here because it was middle-ground for my friend and I. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all 10/10. They have a sign on the host stand explaining that staffing is low so expect longer wait times and they kindly ask you to be patient, but my friend and I had zero issues. Jordan was our server and she was also 10/10. She was patient with US because when my friend and I get together we sit for hours chatting away. I'm the raw sushi eater and my friend is the cooked sushi eater. Options for both were fantastic and above average compared to other places. As far as sushi places go, this one had more of the feel of a modern dining restaurant than the smaller, more intimate sushi joints I'm used to. The restaurant is very open and doesn't have a lot of two seater options for a couple looking for an intimate date night. No happy hour existed when we went around 6pm on a Friday which was a bummer, but they did have good options for pretty decent wine and beer (both draft and bottled). The menu is divided up by cooked and raw rolls which made it much easier to decide and order on my part. I went straight to the raw rolls. To start with we ordered the lemon and garlic edamame. It was good, but nothing special and a very small portion. We ordered three rolls to split. I don't remember the name of the third roll, but the other two we ordered were the King Kong and the Ruby. The sushi was fresh and tasty, but I will say I wasn't blown away and didn't find anything special about them. The menu promised so much more than what we got. I was also disappointed that one of the rolls only came with 6 pieces. A normal roll has at least 8, so I feel that if I'm paying a high price and expecting a full roll but don't get it, I'm going to be much more disappointed and feel shorted than if the menu just stated this was only a 6-piece roll. I'm not sure if I'll will go back or not. I've had better sushi for the same price elsewhere. Myself and 3 others went here for lunch. I have had Korean BBQ. Yes, here it's a Japanese BBQ but there is not many changes. The other three have never had Asian BBQ but after all was done, they loved it. The meats were very good quality and the service was always willing to help all the way through. If you never did a BBQ it will take 1 1/2 hours or so. But so worth it. You will need to do your own cooking but for my guests they simply loved cooking.
